    The Slovenian Desiros were actually prototypes for 3 kV DC electricity, and they turned out to be complete disaster. Apart from the poorly designed interior (space for prams and bicycles? I can't see it, sorry.) and uncomfortable seats (you must take into account that, because of poor infrastructure and low speeds, the journey times in Slovenia are very long), they suffereda lot of technical troubles. Siemens then turned the whole Desiro Classic EMU program down, but went on later to produce Desiro ML EMUs for Belgium (also 3 kV DC), and our story was repeated there.
    It's very interesting to hear from a foreigner about our touristic pearls, because we are so used to them :) Next time, you should travel on the line from Jesenice via Bled Jezero down to Nova Gorica, it's the most scenic line in Slovenia.
    You are welcome back soon :) next few years will be interesting on our railways, we are getting 52 brand new trains from Stadler, retiring most of the old rolling stock.

      No need to bash about Siemens Desiro SŽ units, they are ok--don't be just one of the typical slovenians who are complaining nonstop about everything. This are commuter trains and they are doing this job just fine. Technical issues were largely solved in 2016 when engines receive new covers designed in Slovenia. I ride today 312-018/17 and 312-006/5 and both were clean and pleasant space to be. Also comfortable, for commuter train. Of corse, i still need to ride in new Staedler Flirt 3 and 4 which just arrive in Slovenia and we are waiting for new Staedler Kiss units which are on the way to Slovenia however i will still ride also Siemens Desiros.

      Hey, great information! Indeed, Belgium has very similar issues, but I never made that link between DC and the issues in these two specific countries- i suppose it makes sense. As for the line between Jesenice and Nova Gorica, I once watched some tv show on it and was thinking of maybe going there to take it some time soon, because it looked absolutely beautiful- but the rolling stock used there seemed terrible. Like, really old, it looked like it didn't even have a toilet even though it runs only a few times a day and for quite long, et cetera- so I was kind of hesitant due to that- of course there is a certain charm to journeys like that as well, though. Do you have perhaps some more information on that specific trip?

    • @markoobid2005
      @markoobid2005 2 года назад +2

      @@BubblesBub434 of course I have, it's my home railway line :) Of course our trains have toilets, and are modernized now, though the train personal tends to never use the air conditioning that was added at the latest modernization :( so ride with windows open it is. They look terrible because they are full of grafitti.
      The line is very scenic and I personally recommend the ride on it. Sadly, the historic steam train that used to run before the pandemic every Saturday is now suspened, and it's unlikely it will return.

    I traveled to Slovenia in 2018. I was still working for a major airline and my travel benefits came in very handy for this trip. Flew ORD/VCE, rented a car and drove to Ljubljana. Beautiful city. Sort of Paris without the grime and graffiti. Also stayed at an AIRBNB at Bled. Took a launch to the church in the middle of the lake, also did some hikes in the Julian Alps. This was an important trip since I also visited the town (Semic) of my paternal grandfather's birth. Want to return soon.

    I've not been for a couple of years but to do this journey I used to stay on the local train all the way to Jesenice (or get an IC/EC from Ljlubljana to Villach/further north as they all stop there) and pick up a local train to Nova Gorica. This goes past Lake Bled and there is a station on the other side of the lake (Bled Jezero) where you an get off and walk about 30mins round the lake to get to Bled village. No need for a bus at all then.
    I'd also suggest going further into Bohinj area, the train to Nova goes through some lovely countryside and you can get off at Boh Bistrica then take a bus to Lake Bohinj at the foot of Mt Triglave, it's a fair bit quieter than Bled and stunning scenery.
    That whole area has to be my favourite desintation the entire world

    Merci pour le compte rendu. Cette gare n'est de Lesce n'est pas la plus proche du lac mais celle de Lac Bled est sur une autre ligne bien moins desservie d'où la nécessité de cette navette routière. En plus, il faudrait faire un grand détour à Jesenice. Quand je suis allé a Lac Bled, septembre 2017, il y avait la compétition d'aviron (catégorie masters) sur le lac. C'était merveilleux de voir tout cela dans un tel décor. Nous avons pris un petit dessert au café Belvedere, c'est pas très cher compte tenu de la belle vue. I’ve heard public transportation in Slovenia is still somewhat problematic but that it’s definitely improved over the years
    Hopefully when I go there I will not have to worry about much because I’m relying on the public transportation system since renting a car isn’t economically feasible for me

      @@NonstopEurotrip good to know! I will not stress out about it I’ll go with the flow and if I do get into a mishap I’m sure the locals will help me especially if they see me crying 😂
