Yeah that's pretty much the case for every gang/group of enemies in the game. It kinda takes away the immersion when Arthur/John have to kill a small army basically every mission.
@@MrZomBie775 To be fair, honestly emulating how hard and intense "squad" combat is within a video game would be nigh on impossible, and also impossible for +90% of gamers to play against. From everything my Veteran friends tell me, the stupidest IRL enemy is 100 times more dangerous than any NPC, and because of game mechanics, even PVP player opponents don't really stack up, or they stack up too well. Anyway, immersion is a bit dinged up when you have killed literally thousands of people by the end of the story.
I think that, while the numbers are inflated, they’re less inflated than you may think. None of the gangs are stupid, they know that if they literally wiped out an entire town they would get the government on their tail, and they wouldn’t last long after that. Look what happened to our gang. All we did was rob a few banks and the pinkertons relentlessly hunted us down. Imagine the response if we had sacked one or more of the towns. I have the platinum trophy for RDR2 but had never seen the athletes' mass grave, that has to be one of the most disturbing things I've seen in this game.
The Blackwater Athletics wasn't the work of the Skinners: Too smooth and too silent, because they've been asphyxiated and the bodies are well hidden. The Skinners are arrogant and want to be noticed and they are much, much more brutal, putting the bodies on public display.
This video is just absolutely brilliant. From your in-game cinematography to the story telling. You really set the tone and atmosphere of the Skinner Brothers with a bit of your charm. Great video from beginning to end. Really admirable :)

The Skinner Brothers seems to be the 'evil' version of the original Van Der Linde Gang. The Skinners almost mirror Dutch's mode of operation and philosophy before his descent into madness. As explained within RDR2 lore, Dutch's vision was to create a 'Savage Utopia' free of the controlling grip of civilization. His gang have long travelled westwards to hopefully settle within the open plains. This appears to be the strategy of the Skinners, moving to Tall Trees probably with the intent to settle on the Great Plains prior to John Marston and his posse's arrival. Certain members of the Skinners seem to be the equivalent to members of the VDLG. Elias Green is a hot-headed enforcer who seems act as a reflection of Micah/Bad Arthur and as a contrast to Good Arthur. Whereas Otis Skinner is an educated, eloquently spoken leader of the gang, very similar to Dutch or Hosea in that regard. Note that the Skinners appear have been around for as long if not longer than VDLG. It was possible that the Skinners may too have started as a band of idealists that took the writing's of Evelyn Miller to heart, hence the Skinner's preference of staying within the wilderness and their interesting inclusivity when it comes to recruiting members despite their misanthropy. In one conversation within a Skinner camp, one member appears to be reading out a book or a journal written in the poetic style of Evelyn Miller. Like Dutch, the original Skinner Brothers may too have faced mounting pressure, tragic setbacks and other hardships that has eventually driven their leadership and everyone within the gang insane and descend into unutopic savagery, repurposing their goal to instead destroy Civilization as a whole as opposed to living free from it. By RDR1, this was Dutch's philosophical standpoint, and why it seems that he has attracted remnants of the Skinner gang to the reiterated VDLG.
Everytime I encounter a Skinner I hogtie one of them then leave them in swamps for the nightfolk or the Gators to get them but I usually blow their heads off 😂
The Skinner Brothers remind me of myself ingame, brutally killing, burning, poisoning, giving all types of death to the innocent. The only exceptions are special npcs, like Mickey (I just couldn't kill him, he's nice), Joe Butler (He's a good guy), Grizzled Jon (idk, I just feel like sparing him), etc. Also, I spare every gang I come across (if they don't attack me. I do attack them sometimes, though it is because I felt bloodthirsty and I didn't want to have the law bugging me), because I relate to them: Brutal, Merciless, Triggerhappy.
7:15 I had this encounter. Accidentally let the guy die, but the woman survived. John asked "Ma'am, are you ok?" She walks up to the dead man, and responds with "We was just camping..." and begins to cry. If you choose the nice dialogue, John responds with "I'm so sorry" She responds "Please leave me alone". Don't know what happens if they both survive.
I came across that second encounter late one night while riding through the area. It was storming hard and pitch black. I had found a little cabin to hide out in but I kept hearing these screams coming from outside. I finally built up the courage to investigate, and followed the sound through the rain to the dying man. That whole sequence was probably the scariest I had in the game. Got the hell out of there ASAP.
1:55 During my time playing the epilogue, I came across this event near Beecher's hope, but riding a little further past it I found the second horse, dead from all of the arrows.
Online shows that the Skinner Brothers were in conflict with the locals of West Elizabeth just before the events of the main story, it appears that they hadn't yet gotten to the complete point of evil they're shown to be at in 1907 since you often find them in the middle of attacks and not after them. Interesting to point out also is that Flaco Hernandez seems to have a bone to pick with them as they're the occasional targets of his assassination missions. This could suggest that the Skinners and the rest of the Del Lobos have a feud going on, and it presumably also explains why they aren't encountered down in New Austin. I think the Chez Porter family might be connected to the Brothers in some way since one of the areas you can fight them for Flaco is their house. Anyway I thought it was worth just info-dumping there. As little lore there is to the Online portion of Red Dead 2, there's still some interesting nuggets to think about.
I remember that in Red Dead Online you can encounter random events in Ambarino involving the Skinner Brothers. I’d assume they originally used to operate up there before moving down to Tall Trees in West Elizabeth.
I love videos like this. Exploring the depths of RDR2’s world. Some of the best environmental story telling in gaming. Every random corpse, burned structure or broken wagon has more behind it than what meets the eye

Jesus I really appreciate the level of detail the developers put into the plot and functions of this game. The fact that you can feel the genuine hatred/rivalry of the Skinners, the fear from their victims, and the legitimate insanity from the Skinners themselves, is surreal. Not to mention the fact that there’s actual cause and effect that impacts the world (I.e. capturing a bounty alive then being able to witness their execution) Games of this quality are beautiful to experience, rare to come around, and ALWAYS worth the wait. I wish game companies have their devs more breathing space, maybe we could get more quality work like this.
I felt so sorry for that poor, well-arrowed horse that I unhitched it from the wagged, led it back to Beechers Hope and fed it. I also injected it with finest horse reviver. Next time the game reloaded the horse’s wounds had healed. I felt better.
For the first encounter, I went down the road the wagon came from and found the second horse dead with a few arrows sticking out of it. It was about half way between the wagon and tall trees. It looks like it pulled the wagon a distance, then kicked the bucket.

Absolutely, they respawning every time in Tall Trees
We wouldn’t have had the many conversations we had with Milton, because he would have killed us all ASAP.
@@Aplesedjr Good points. In fact there were several "Range Wars" in the old west that ended up quite like that. One side got too big for their britches and ended up being hunted down. If anyone deserved to meet the Skinners it was Milton.

By RDR1, this was Dutch's philosophical standpoint, and why it seems that he has attracted remnants of the Skinner gang to the reiterated VDLG.
very well said boss
Yeah the superficial similarity is there but I doubt that they are more than just a bunch of psychotic inbreds.
Dead Caliph A+ on ur English essay
Not to mention angry natives possibly remnants of the Wapiti Indians
Tldr
Everytime I encounter a Skinner I hogtie one of them then leave them in swamps for the nightfolk or the Gators to get them but I usually blow their heads off 😂

I tried feeding them to wolves using bait around them. Unfortunately, the wolves just attack me instead.
I always question their steamed hams.
U mean the murfee gang
Emo Peter Parker you go from tall trees all the way to the bayou just for that
The Skinner Brothers remind me of myself ingame, brutally killing, burning, poisoning, giving all types of death to the innocent.

John asked "Ma'am, are you ok?"
She walks up to the dead man, and responds with "We was just camping..." and begins to cry.
If you choose the nice dialogue, John responds with "I'm so sorry"
She responds "Please leave me alone".
Don't know what happens if they both survive.
They hug each other, thank you and leave.
"That does not immunize the region from future terrors"
*Inserts pic of Dutch*
Well Dutchs gang were mostly Native American with some whites and at least they killed people with bullets and not like this
That ending though, props dude! It makes killing them that much more satisfying, like a western Punisher of sorts.
