  • In today's video we explore the massive abandoned Lake Behavioral Hospital (formerly Saint Therese Hospital) just before its demolition. There was much property left behind which made for a very interesting exploration. Hope you enjoy!

A year before it was shut down, the EMS break room was in the basement and a buddy of mine ran into a nun when he was coming around the corner of the hallway. He apologized for running into her and all she said was “bless you”. He told me about it when he got to the break room and I told him the nuns haven’t been at the hospital in years. The sisters of St Therese Hospital still roam around to this day.

I worked there in the 90s. It was definitely haunted.

I was really hoping you guys would have visited the psych ward on the third floor.
Also, that new building is called 'Lake Behavioral,' and was just opened in the past couple years. It's for mental health recovery.
And, the power-plant you spotted in the distance has been shut down, and decommissioned. You can actually drive right up to it, if you go East on Greenwood Avenue, at the Northern terminus of the Amstutz Expressway.

Knew an ambulance tech working out of there during the last weeks the ER was open, gave me a couple chances to run around upstairs -- it was preserved like it closed yesterday. Shocking how bad it got trashed, even before demolition.

My mother worked in that hospital and in the professional building.
I worked there as a teen in the mid 90s and the building that used to be the dormitory was haunted as hell.
I used to have to up to get stored patient files, as they used the dormitory for storage.
I would go up there, and you could only go up via elevator using a special key as all doors were padlocked shut.
I would be looking for the files and would hear toilets flush, or hear water running. I would go to the bathroom and you would see the toilets were flushed and the water to a tub that rhey had would be running.
I would go around the whole floor and nobody was there. I reported it to building security and they said "thats not all that happens in there, we have seen people"
    Pretty creepy!

I am from Waukegan I just found out about this hospital being demolished. My grandma worked there in the 60’s, my neighbor an E.R. nurse in 2016 retired. Waukegans history is being destroyed, one building at a time. I am one of it’s historians.
