    I once talked to a Surgeon who said it might be possible to survive a chest bursting if the patient came under medical attention right away - though of cause it would depend on exactly how much damage was done to vital organs in the process.
    But he did say that he believed that Kane could have been saved (going on only what he could perceive the damage to be in the movie).
    He also believed that Kanes heart was undamaged since the blood kept flowing after the chest bursting had happened - such a delightful dinner conversation :D

      If only they would showcase someone that does just that in a future film: someone unfortunate enough to go through a chestbursting episode, but still fortunate enough that they were recovered at just the right time and they miraculously survived because they were given medical care at just the right moment.

      This is something I’ve been thinking of quite a bit lately as I’ve started drifting back into more of alien content. From what I can tell the chest bursters don’t seem to hit anything vital outside of possibly the lungs. Sure they fuck up the rib cage, but that’s a surmountable problem. There isn’t any real reason people just die almost as soon as the chest burster comes out unless there’s some in universe reason they haven’t bothered explaining yet.

    Actually I think the reason that doctor in Colonial Marines said it was impossible to remove the Chestbuster from Bella without killing her was because of how late into the gestation period the Alien was in. So the placenta growing around it was a defense mechanism it had to keep it from being removed that soon. So really the chance of surviving the procedure depends on when it's done.

    • @jamallabarge2665
      @jamallabarge2665 4 года назад +24

      A placenta would cause other problems - there is no womb to interact with said placenta.
      As I recall the embryo in one of the novelizations grew a vein and artery to use blood for nutrients. This is limiting because the blood only carries so much nutrients.

    • @LordCommander-ui2fw
      @LordCommander-ui2fw 4 года назад +17

      One treatment for the cancerous placenta could be found in nanotechnology. Perhaps a nanite solution, programmed to seek out and eliminate the foreign cells, could purge the placenta from the organs the embryo has attached itself to and allow for a relatively safe surgical removal of the chestburster.

    • @jamallabarge2665

    A theory i've always had on how to safely remove an embryo is to perform surgery on the chest while the facehugger is still attached. Not bothering to remove the parasite itself but instead scanning and monitoring the implantation process step by step and swiftly removing any signs of a forming embryo before it's had a chance to grow into much more than a tiny pulsating tumour
    This in tern could in theory bypass the normal "dead man's switch" defense of the facehugger by tricking it into thinking that it was still able to do its job and eventually detach and die like normal, since as far as it was concerned, the implantation was a success
    (and even if it was aware of the death of the embryo, there's nothing it could do about it since it already used up it's energy the first time, so it would still die shortly after the surgery anyway)

    In my humble opinion, if Ripley took Weyland-Yutani up on their offer in Alien 3, I believe they would have killed her the second she let her guard down with them, took the xenomorph baby out of her body, and would have done God-knows-what with it.

    • @mountaindewslave
      @mountaindewslave 7 лет назад +18

      seems a tiny bit risky, unless you're implying they knew it was just about to burst. And in one of the cuts of the film the alien is shown bursting out of her chest right as she's landing in the lava I believe, so she realistically would be dead regardless (I don't think they would have rushed her to some sort of medical safety machine in a minute's time)

    Romulus showed that you can remove a facehugger without harming the host, but if it's letting you, you were already too late. The one in Aliens is shown to be actively seeking a new host to replace the one who died being separated from it.
    I thought that was a nice touch that didn't impinge on any canon that was already established. Now instead they confirmed it's got a "that'll do" threshold. Quite terrifying.

      I don't like this addition because it means that the facehugger is just hanging out on its victim's face even after the embryo is implanted. What for? Either the embryo is implanted or it's not; there shouldn't be a "not all the way but good enough" category.

      As you may or may not be aware, in the original script for Prometheus, it was a chestburster which broke out of Shaw while she was in the pod. The medical pod repaired the damage as it was being done by the emerging alien which crawled away. Shaw did survive this procedure. Of course this version was not the final script but I still thinks it's worth noting. If you haven't read it, a quick google search will turn it up.

  • @LughSamildanach
    @LughSamildanach 7 лет назад +6

    While very non-canon for both franchises, Superman was attacked by a facehugger once.
    He was de-powered at the time, essentially a normal human, but upon regaining his powers under a yellow star, the still developing chestburster was crushed and killed inside him, which his body then absorbed.
    So it stands to reason that some species that are sufficiently hardy could either survive the entire process or have a way to deal with it before it becomes an issue.

  • @MrScaryPasta

    Topic suggestion: "How dangeorus is the Xenomorph's acidic body fluid?"
    We know it reacts very aggressively against metals and rock but in Aliens after Gorman's recovery Bishop commented that the acid is not that harmful to humans and it serves more to paralyze the victim than kill it, obviously so that the body can be used by the Xenomorphs. Gorman recovered and appeared to be fine and commented that it feels like a hangover but he was capable of fighting shortly after.
    This begs the question is the blood of the Facehugger or the adult Xenomprh is of different makeup? As a facehugger's blood should be more about self defense to protect against removal by damaging the host or the area while implantation. While a drone's blood would be more inclined to paralyze the victim in case it fights back so that the victim could be recovered and used for reproduction.

    It should be noted that all the Xenomorphs in Alien: Ressurection are partially human. Just as Ripley 8 contains traces of Xenomorph DNA, the Queen she bore and all its eggs contained traces of human DNA. This could explain additional compatibility with removing the chestburster and the longer gestation period for the chestburster inside Purvis.

      Yep, which is why I specified that it would be some futuristic equivalent in terms of general acid resistance, and not a carbide itself. Also the material required would be largely dependent on the actual compounds in the xeno's blood composition. For example, one could hypothesize that it contains fluorosulfonic or pentafluoride compounds, which would react with silicon and therefore render ceramic tools unusable.

    With proper technology, the embryo could be removed safely but not the placenta. In Alien Resurrection, they could safely remove it all, somehow. If the expanded universe can still be seen as possible canon, I'd bet there would be other ways to safely remove the chestburster before full maturation.
    I do have a question about this process... since during the embryo development, both the host and alien are being in somekind of symbiote relationship. If a safe removal occurs of embryo and the placenta, and the host is in good state, would the host retain some sort of "xeno dna" inside him/her? Would it be possible that the xenos see the "safe host" in other ways and not being able for another impregnation? That would be a marvelous defense against the xenos if that would work! They'd see you as their own, somewhat!
    Thoughts?

    Surgery is fundamentally a reversal of entropy, in theory any surgery can be performed with techniques which are efficient and precise enough. That said some surgical procedures maybe unfeasible and/or impossible with given resources (technology, medication, expertise). Point is a chest burted could likely be extracted safely, but it is also likely to be a complex and difficult procedure.

    I think they could, depending on the timing and the equipment. In the latest Alien Vs Predator game, the girl's got a Xenomorph growing inside her and you help her to get to a stasis pod, hyper sleep or freezing, bringing the heart rate down a lot, maybe a shit load of morphine or diazepam or something would help lower the heart rate enough to keep the alien growing slowly until you could get someone to get help. Cool topic.

The Facehugger is clearly a problem but the gestating larva shouldn't be even when connected to organs. We are talking about the distant Sci-fi future after all. It's also highly possible that the Autodoc isn't well known early on and / or surgeons are selected to learn the method or just be labeled "disposable" as the company tends to do to a lot of its workers.

    Thanks for making this ! I have two video suggestions ! The first one is asking the question on how the Xenomorphs can physically see, the second one is about the rapid growth. How long does it take, what are the stages and is it easy to exterminate a chestburster before it grows into big enough to fight back (or hunt)

  • @ChaosPhantasm2000

    Some of the expanded universe material that depict Chestburster removal usually results in the host suffering from cancer as a side effect. Removal of the Chestburster in that way is like a double edged sword. Perhaps during removal, depending on the host and the steps taken after removal, the host can stave off theses cancerous tumors and live a normal life with the body reconstructing the chest cavity.

    the new movie confirms the possibility of a facehugger being cut off, though it has to be done quickly all you really need to do is cut one of those 2 sacks and it will detach itself only problem is it might get some of that acid on someone, but I'd rather have that than a terrifying death. also to add on the way it impregnates it's gross. it shoves a tube down you throat an pumps the stuff in you. nasty stuff.

    In colonial marines it was also shown in a diary that one of the doctors got a facehugger attached to him, so, against the wishes of the company, his either husband or brother (they had the same last name, anything else regarding their relationship is unclear) tried to remove the embryo, but like the other doctor said in the cutscene, the victim still died.

    Firstly, I love your videos! They are the best and your voice is the best and your storylines everything is the best! As to whether someone could survive having the alien embryo removed I'm going to say no because the way it attaches itself to the face and the neck that ensures that it can't be removed until implantation is complete. So at that stage when the facehugger falls off the embryo is already a part of the body and can only be removed by killing the individual. And those are my 2 cents!

    At the beginning, feel absolutely free to correct me in anything ;)
    Depending on how much time it takes for an embryo to be laid in a ribcage and subsequent dying of the facehugger. If the time span is like: Facehugger sends embryo in the host and dies immediately after, then it could be possible to start operating then and there and remove the embryo before it starts creating the "cancer" placenta cells. If the facehugger waits for the embryo to grow a bit before it dies however, it might be trickier.
    I don't know of any recorded case of the behaviour, which means watching a facehugger and his embryo simultaneously from the phase of facehugging to the phase of chestbursting. Kane might have had the facehugger attached to him a long time or a short time, it is never said. Just like with every other person.
    So if the case is: facehugger dies at the point of no return for a host, then it really is a perfect organism.

    • @zeratul____1228

    I know from personal experience that a facehugger can indeed be removed
    You simply coat the facehugger with a liberal coating of salt and or thick oil
    The facehugger wont be able to respirate and will detach in a panic at which you can capture the facehugger in a bucket
    As for removing a chestburster, assuming you are at a medical faciity, to deliberatey flatline the patient fooling the chestburster that the host is dead
    You can then surgically remove the chestburster without it retaliating

    Even if they're able to remove the Facehugger during implantation, I suspect it keeps the host in a chemically induced coma which paralyses their pulmonary system, with the Facehugger itself acts as a ventilator. After implantation is successful, the Facehugger would then deliver a chemical resuscitation cocktail before crawling away to die. Removal of the Facehugger during the implantation phase would therefor lead to the host suffocating.

Men would be capable of more! In the end, it can just be thrown in a large basket and experimented upon!

      Based on my interpretation of the corner's autopsy reports at 1:34, it doesn't look like you're intended to survive regardless of whether you try and remove it somehow.
      A blood panel is a series of blood tests run on a patient/test subject to check and see what is or is not present in the blood, and at what concentrations (if any); normally it's used to detect the presence of cancer in the body, organ failure, infection, or if someone has been poisoned, either purposefully or accidentally.
      The final line of the report in layman's terms says "Based on the blood tests we ran on the dead person, it's possible this Facehugger realized it was going to be removed, because we detected that it dumped a huge amount of toxins into the victim's body after we started the removal process, possibly with the aim of poisoning the victim to death. A combination of that, and Traumatic Shock (I'm assuming severe acid burns from the facehugger being cut open while still attached to his head) caused the patient to suffer a Myocardial Infarction [a heart attack] and die."
      If a facehugger deliberately sabotages a victim by poisoning the living shit out him/her as an anti-tampering fail-safe measure to kill them even if they aren't impregnated, then it would most likely definitely mean it would decide to kill the host if you tried to pull it off, unless maybe you somehow figured out how to rip it off in one piece instantly.

  • @Xibyth
    @Xibyth 7 лет назад +1

    I'm fairly confident that the face hugger moves its 'falice' down the tracia, and moves it's bio-virus into the hosts lungs where it is rapidly absorbed. It is likely the virus repurposes preexisting organs such as the gall bladder and muscle tissue rather than have the host fully grow it's body, as this process is much shorter. The compound to do this may be released as a last result should the embryo go into shock, causing other organs to begin repurposing leading to failure. Perhaps if it is already dead this won't happen.

    In the video you mentioned the xenomorphs had a weakness, a black mold growing in a hive somewhere. This is the first I've heard of something that's predatory on the zenomorphs. Could you elaborate more on this event? Where did this mold come from, and how were the xenomorphs infected with it? This has the capacity for new story.

    Canonically, yes. As they removed one from Ripley #8's chest.
    On an aside they expressed the intention to do this at the end of Alien 3, but being 200 years earlier, the primitive technology might have made it more complicated. But then going further back Elizabeth Shaw had her own chest alien removed surgically by a machine on Prometheus, which took place much earlier. So... The short answer is always yes.

    How to survive a Facehugger:
    Step 1) hold whatever breath you have and don't breathe when it's on your face (because it has this thing that'll make you go to sleep)
    Step 2) find a wall (still holding your breath) and slam your face against the wall attempting to knock the Facehugger out or kill it.
    Or you could slam your face against the wall while trying to pull the tail off your neck. That helps
