- This video is about how to make the Perfect Crochet Slip Stitch Brim or Bill. You can use this to add a really cute brim to almost any hat. For example, you can turn a basic crochet beanie into an adorable billed hat with this video tutorial.
Although you can use this with any hat pattern, we think it's the perfect addition to the free crochet messy bun hat pattern shown in the video. Get that free pattern here: marlybird.com/free-crochet-me...
Some of the crochet basics that you'll learn in this video include: where the back loop is, how to increase stitches, how to decrease crochet stitches and how to finish the brim so it looks just perfect. And it's all done with the smart slip stitch technique.

This is SOOOOOO perfect, thank you so much!!! I've been looking FOREVER for a good brim to add to a hat and you did it!! I love your channel!!

You are adorable!! Thank you for your tutorials! As a beginner i really Appreciate your method of description and visual demonstration!! Can’t wait to add a little brim to the hat I’m
Making for my son.
my grand dgt., 6 years old, wanted her beanie to have the back of the hat cover her neck this solved my problem ! Thanks love it and so simple
Oh This is FANTASTIC! I'm working on knit cap patterns with the duplicate emboidery stitch added and this brim is PERFECT! Seeing as it resembles the knit stitch but adds a bit of dimension! I just need to figure out the stitch count for the sizes I'm making and the weight of yarn.. ♡♡♡♡ it!! A MILLIONS THANKS!!
love the concept, very easy to understand
You are an amazing teacher. Thank you so much
i just love this
I love the colours looks cool
This is a very helpful video! Easy to see and follow! I like the brim!
Thank you for this tutorial. A friend asked me to make some more hunting hats for husband. Then, he chimed in, asking if I could add a brim this time. I said, "Sure," even though I didn't have a clue how to do it. Now, I know, and it's much easier than the short row knit version I tried to do on my own. :)
Thank you for teaching this
Thank you sooo-much just what I've been looking for and you are a G-R-E-A-T TEACHER THANKS AGAIN
Love THIS, I'm going to make a hat just to do the brim
Thank you so much. I've been trying so much to complete this and I was having so much trouble over and over. I found your video and I got it. Thank you so much. I was ready to give up
Fantastic tutorial thanks a lot for this
Thank you, Marly. You are amazing. Love your lessons
+Eugenia Bazankova thanks!
That was very informative. I'm a huge fan of your work, Marly.
Love this pattern! I did it with BL singles instead of slip stitches and it worked just as well. I also did a modification where the first Stitch and the last Stitch of every row I go under both Loops instead of just the back Loop to make the edges more sturdy
Wonderful!
Love this. Thank you.
I love it!!!!
Thanks for sharing.
Can't wait to try this!
I love it!

Thanks where can I find patterns for brim and hat?
Excellent video , many thanks
Wow!!! This video is AWESOME! I have been looking for a video on this topic that is adaptable to any type of hat and yarn weight. I plan to make another ponytail hat for my locs; but I wanted to add a brim; this is perfect. Now I have to figure out how to make a large whole (vertical and horizontal) in the back and I'll be good to go. Lol! Thanks so much for this excellent tutorial!
Listen, I know this hat came out three years ago but I just found this pattern because my father has been asking for three hats with a brim. I've crocheted hats with brims before but they weren't sturdy. I whipped the first one up and was like "oookaaayyyyy Marly, go with your bad self and this pattern" then I whipped up the other two and they LOVE their hats all the way in northern Minnesota IN the mountains near Canada. Then I made the mistake of posting a photo of me modeling the hats and now everyone is wanting them.....My sister, son, daughter in law....ME , I want one too. These brims are the best I've ever crocheted.
Wow so butterfly
Can't wait to try this 🙂
Awesome!
This tutorial is amazing I’ve always wondered how to make that kind of brim.
I was going to experiment and make a baseball cap 🧢

I think I will be able to do this , I could never do it a brim before
You my dear are a wonderful teacher. Thank you for the crochet class.
The okjyrr always
Makes you want
Hey all! I notice that many were also confused on how to start the 46-80 “foundation chain” when the brim is done when following the accompanying ribbed hat pattern shown in this video. I found a later video of a hat she does that uses the same foundation chain as in this pattern. ( ruclips.net/video/yP_0e10XNKY/видео.html ). So when the brim is done, you need to chain 46 and sl st it to the other end of the brim to create the round THEN start the foundation double crochet that she refers to. This worked well for me and measured correctly.
Thank you. You make it so easy to follow along. I know a lot of people are more visual so this will help them. I've made two so far, and they work out so nice. I love the brim. Marly, I LOVE the prototype hat in the pink. Will you be offering a pattern for that one too??
I loved this brim, but I would to see how its sewn on successfully, as I had difficulty getting it right, eventually managed to get it done, just hope I get better at it the more I try it. Great tutorial
first time watching. Happy to have found your channel!!! I just noticed you did this video 6 yrs ago. I hope your still posting. your very easy to follow, thank you

Marly I love the brim but I was wondering if you have a video showing how to do the rest of the him and her hat
thank i want to download it
❤AWESOME❤
Hi Marly, thanks for the teachings. Can you please teach us how to make the snowcap? The brim cap with the mask.
Hey Marly! Great video. I actually like the hat you have displayed in the video itself. Can you do a video tutorial for that one? Not sure if you have already though.
This is great. Is there a knit version?
THIS IS GREAT! Can a brim be added to an existing hat?
Beautifull! Please in spanish, gracias!
I would love to see a video of the whole process to make the complete hat. I find the instructions on the site a little confusing as I’m not good learning from a written pattern.
Great
Hi, Marly, fabulous brim :) Do you have any video tutorial with the body of the His & Her Hat?
awesome hat great video one thing I can not seem to find the pattern. Happy New Years
+Susan Zimmerman the link is in the video notes. You can also find it in the free patterns on my website.
Love it. Would Love to see how you make a hat on it. Thank you in advance Roxanne 💖
you will simply work into the front leg of the stitches you did to join the hat after the fold. :-)
Ok, Thank you.💖
@Marly Bird, would it be possible to do the decrease with an insert pull, insert pull in sequence, 2 stitches and pull through the loops on the hook instead of skipping?
Great tutorial Marly. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you use the knife hold, lol. Must be because of the bulky yarn. Cool brim!😊
Is there a video(not written instruction) on the hat itself? I'd love to make the entire thing. Just don't know how to read patters yet 😕
All I can find are the written instructions
I will be using this type of brim hat pattern to make a visor headband for my Starbucks barista costume!
Please show me how to make complete hat. So awesome.
Is there a video on how the body of the hat is made? I am having trouble following the written directions. Love this brim!!!
Marly that pink hat is beautiful! Can you share the pattern you used?
I was just wondering if you could do a video for the whole hat thank you
😂 nice. Thank you.
Marly, thank you so much. I love the way you teach, very detailed and clear.
Please , please show us how to do the hat part also. I read the pattern and don't understand.
For example: do the foundation double crochet? does it mean we will have to chain 46 chains and do the double crochet?
Please help. !
Yes, I will do that. There are many people who have asked for the hat portion.
Do you have a video for the hat part yet?
Hi Marly Bird , I like your tutorial's specially this one I was looking for a tutorial to make a successful Brim and it turned out so perfect , I have a request please , would you make a crochet tutorial long sleves blouse . Thank you
