‘’Initially I was only interested in black inks’’ - David, you seem to me as one of those who grew a lot through their hobby and that’s fantastic. Keep up the great work, thanks!
I just got the Shanghai model and I love it.
Love the Rubik’s cube layout you’ve got going on! 👌🏻
Chicago has one of the best flags in the country. I wish my city or state had a flag half so cool.
@@forgotMyUsername100 agreed!
All I can say is beautiful! Atlas is great too.
Was the reference to "The Time Machine"?
👍
Thanks for the review. Though I love the Nautilus, these flashier finishes are too much for me.
Damn it, Dave, why’d you have to tell them about the Chicago model? I have to wait until next month to buy another pen (self-imposed discipline). I have the New Orleans version, and I want the Chicago too.
Gorgeous series of pens--I think the Shanghai is the best looking of the lot.
Completely agree. Couldn't decide between Shanghai or New Orleans, but I ordered both and returned the New Orleans. Shanghai is so beautiful in person.
I have three Narwhal pens (all three of the Peter Pens they have produced so far). My only real criticism is that I wished they had an extra-fine nib (or even an extra-extra-fine in Western terms; something about 0.3 mm). They're very well made and you feel like you have a PEN in your hand with them!
Incidentally, it was the Eloi and the Morlocks.
The only "blue" in that Diamine blue black is in the name! 🤣🤣
If you do a smear test you can see the blue just fine: it’s just a nice saturated ink - it has typical Diamine attributes: does not smear on tomoe river paper and produces a nice fine line that does not spread out which is great if you’ve got small handwriting; this is one of my favourite blue/blacks along with Aurora blue/black and Iroshizuku shin-kai:)
@@anguswhite8233 Thanks Angus. I was just trying to make a funny comment (end of comedy career). However, what you have posted is truly informative.
Ooof. These are just beautiful AND in my price range for a gift to myself. These resins are stunning. Very appealing when looking for something different with a very nice ink window. Great review!
I bought the New York version. It performs nicely. I probably would have bought Chicago, if I knew existed.
Excellent review.
Great review...Narwhal are killing it just now!
I got your letter David! Thanks for replying back! 😃
Nice addition to the Narwal line. I had a “hobby job,” one night a week for 13 years on the Chicago Lakefront, which later turned into a second career for additional 16 years in my present home city. So thanks for the “cube flag” configuration memory trigger.
Need three more cubes to get the complete Chicago flag. Very nice detail.
Your mention I believe was to the Movie, "The Time Machine". I really like the Narwhal Fountain Pens and might get one. How do you clean it? Can you remove the nib or nib unit to clean?
Thank you Dave for the video sharing.
i recently purchased the Narwhal anniversary demonstrator from Galen and I cannot say more about the nib! It is fabulous! soft enough, smooth enough, wet enough - no more, no less - it is a Goldie Locks scenario for me.
I have one Narwhal, the Porpita. It’s a beautiful pen. Truly lovely. It’s also plagued with problems. Filling is a problem. The piston nob comes unscrewed from the fill mechanism. It Leaks into the cap. Beautiful and impossible.
Some of the nicest resin I have ever seen and a smooth nib.
Sits in my pen box unused. I’ll keep it but it’s not reliable.
As someone who works in downtown Chicago, and frequents Atlas Stationers, I thankfully haven't seen any Morlock-like activities on the lower streets. Re. Narwhal, I'm still puzzled how they were able to jump from $60 pens to $150+ pens so quickly for, in essence, very similar designs.
Just my opinion, but I think the cost increase can be laid at the feet of the diamond-cast resin.
Nice job with the Rubik Cubes mimicking the Chicago flag :)
Hi David, Love your videos! I am always curious though if you add the pens to your personal collection? Did you end up adding any of these Narwhal pens to your personal collection?
I missed an important legal meeting (no contempt of court though) because I was told to go to Wacher Drive. No one thought to point out to a guy from over 100 miles away from Chicago that one Wacher ran East & West/ the other North/South. In the winter snow, I walked and walked and never found the right place. It finally got so late that I got back in my car and drove between 150 and 200 miles back home. Of course, almost everyone from downstate Illinois learns to hate Chicago (at least until they actually live there; then many of my friends love the City). Narwhal is a fascinating story.
Blue-Black! David: you're a wild man. Nice review, but the colour scheme isn't my cup of tea. I wanted one of the bronze ones with the portals, but they disappeared before I could get one.
+1 for Diamine Midnight!
Wells reference? I feel at home here! 😀
Do you happen to know the finer details of Narwhal's in-house nibs? They look awfully similar to some Chinese nibs to me, so I wonder if Narwhal is getting customised nibs made for them by that Chinese manufacturer, and calling that "in-house". That doesn't say anything about the quality of course, but it would be stretching the definition of "in-house" a bit too far. In-house would mean they're being made in a facility owned by Narwhal.
Chicago is my home
*Captain America thumbs up* I understood that reference.
You need more cubes! 😆
The discontinuity of the pattern from the cap to the barrel and especially between both portions of the barrel, bothers me a great deal. Maybe is this inherent to the construction of any pen, I don’t know, but I am sure more efforts would be worth working around such constraints.
Thanks for my useless internet brownie points.
This one was a huge miss for me. I loved New Orleans and Shanghai. New York was a huge miss as it looks like the Mets logo. The Mets are not really a NYC team… sorry it’s Yankees. Mets is a “Long Island” team. (Yes I know where shea stadium is… but if you’re from NYC you know what I’m talking about.
Chi town pen is just blah. Just because it’s on thier flag doesn’t mean it would look good on a pen. Really was a miss. The gold does not look good with it.
