I’m quite happy to see Narwhal Pens growing and expanding their models and nib sizes. Thanks for sharing the Shanghai model with us. It’s very sparkly but the dark teal keeps it from being too flashy.
I agree. That's why I think it looks better in low light too. THey have expanded their nib selections over their previous pens. That should give them a broader appeal.
I found the Narwhal Nautilus to be the most exciting new pen release of 2021 and have ended up buying three. I was attracted by the relative affordability of a stylish ebonite piston filler, the nautical themed torpedo shape and the retro 'steam punk' aesthetics of the aged metal clip, band and porthole ink windows. I am not usually a fan of sparkly pens but the underwater quality of the Shanghai appealed to me, although others have likened the finish to that of a starry night sky. They are not oversized or too heavy and I have found the nibs to be very reliable.
They are surprisingly a good weight for me and are not too big, which when I first saw them, was afraid they were. I just got my Nautilus and the ebonite is better than I expected-not quite Eboya level but at a fraction of its price.
Another excellent review of a beautiful, sparkly pen. It's hard to believe that narwhals actually exist and it's so cool to see one on that nib. I also love the sparkles on this one.
I successfully now house my BlueDew nib in my Voyage New Orleans. That saved me! Seriously, I was ready to drop kick that BlueDew pen. Since the switch, my writing experience is wonderful. This series is so beautiful to look at and it feels so luxurious. I’m so glad I bought this pen.
@@InkyRocks I pulled it out and I pushed the BD nib in with the existing Narwhal feed. The Narwhal feed has a much bigger channel than my BlueDew feed. All of my previous flow issues are gone and the nib had perfect clearance. The switch worked beautifully.
@@MummyBrown OK, I had to hunt down your comment again to tell you I swapped it out and YOU ARE A GENIUS!!! hahaha! I'm really enjoying that Blue Dew nib in my Narwhals. I had bought a couple of extra nib units and I'm one happy flexy kid! Thanks for the awesome tip!
I've been super curious about Narwhal pens and especially appreciated the size comparison as they've struck me as a larger / girthier pen than I'd typicality use. Great overview!
Thank you! I agree, when I first saw a picture of it, before I got the pen, it seemed like a big girthy pen. I think the rounded ends and slender clip makes it look that way.
Thanks for another fantastic review. FYI, I noticed that Galen Leather stocks nib units for this pen. I may or may not have thier rose gold collab on the way.
I quite like the completely straight shape with the perfectly circular ends that Narwhal went for with the Nautilus and Voyage. Something different and less classical, even though it also feels a bit Art Deco at the same time. Good choice showing it next to an Opus 88 Demo, they're very similar with their simple finial shapes and straight lines.
I'm totally there with you. I couldn't quite express why it is so eye catching in its shape. Almost steampunk, almost art deco, but not really any of those.
Great review! I'm a Narwhal fan since the Nautilus. I don't own any but love the style and nautical references. Shanghai and New Orleans are my favorites from the Voyage line. I love the soothing atmosphere and uniquely informative nature of your vids😊

Thank you for showing us this pen off. It's a gorgeous pen indeed, I like waves on the ring! I think I saw keywest on a pen show last month but it's was almost too sparkly for me, really... I love the swappability of nibs, it's a glorious feature and a bit underestimated sometimes ;w;
Gorgeous photography and edition. You made this pen really shine! I didn’t know about this company and now I’m very interested and I’ll check them out. Thank you!!
I bought a Narwhal Key West in the blue diamondcast. So pretty! 20 mins after I took it out of the box, the cap fell on the floor and the tip above the clip broke off. Narwhal basically said too bad, so sad. I swore off Narwhal pens after that. YMMV.
Actually I need to ask them about that. It did not come with the wrench. I will have to see if my Nautilus does and if it does, does it fit this pen (did that make sense?!)
I was just thinking that we hadn't seen a video from you in a while. I hear you on the Sailor prices. I think I may just stick with the Sailor pens I have unless something truly irresistible comes along.
Yes, I've been caught up on a big health kick recently and that takes so much time. I'm going to have to sell some of my Sailors before I get any new ones--the bank account is screaming.
@@InkyRocks I remember you mentioning your new health regimen in an earlier video. Sounds like quite the commitment. I hope you are feeling energetic and fit!

I have a narwhal original I love it! It's so nice expect for the feed. It always writes wet for the first word and hard starts for the first word, then gradually gets drier and drier until it starves. With wetter ink it only just gets less saturated. I love it outside of that, I wanna modify the feed or feed unit design maybe so I can fix it since it's an air channel issue as far as I saw and can tell 10/10 to their customer supports tho, mine came with touching tines and I couldn't fix it no matter what, it'd not even write, I emailed them and they sent me an ENTIRE NEW PEN for free... I was mind blown and so happy! I only needed a nib xD After that I stuffed the current nib with 3 razor blades in the tine gap (trust me I tried everything before this) and after wiggling it it finally worked, and I finally managed to get the pen to write. Now I have two narwhal originals for free xD Iroshizuku is wet so it works great in these pens. I only have a sample of yama-budo Also the M nib is GIGANTIC. It's just as big as a twsbi B Did you write more than a page with this pen? Mine stops halfway through the page.
I'm sorry you are having a problem with the pen. No, mine writes normally and consistently. And the M nib is pretty much a Western M. I don't hack plastic feeds much, I just change them out. Since it is like a Moonman, you may try substituting one of their feeds. When I wrote with the Jowo nib, it had a Moonman feed in it, and it worked fine.
