Just got mine, and your service was fantastic! I enjoyed the notes it came with. The nib is butter-smooth, and gives excellent flex at just the right pressures. I've learned not to take seriously the kind of "stunt flexing" that you see in some videos, where some guy is destroying a nib to make it look like a pen's flex is extreme. This one's the real thing! Only thing some would find issue with is that the line is really quite broad, even with no pressure (at least when the pen is first filled), and I'm one who always gets broad nibs. Thanks for this -- it's a great addition to my pens, at a modest Noodler price.

I'll be watching for the restock. The smell of the older pens never bothered me initially, and eventually, I came to expect it.
I've been using the cartridges for a couple years now, and on different Ahabs, and come to expect ink in the cap. (I prefer to remove the breather tube when I use a cartridge.) Perhaps it's the warm climate where I live. At first I thought of it as an inconvenience, but on the other hand, I never have any hard starts - it's just "wet". So, like they say "There's two sides to every coin."
For the skeptics, this "wet" condition and inky caps occurs with Pilot, Mont Blanc, J Herbin, and Noodler's inks. One of the "best" is Noodler's Gruene Cactus.
For those new to Noodler's fountain pens, I must admit I have had Nib Creapers and Konrads "break". I do not find them as durable as a Metropolitan. But, I don't have as much fun with my Metropolitans either. When I think about a $20 or $50 pen breaking after a couple years of use, I think of two dinners out at a nice restaurant - the value of the pens is equivalent. Unless you play with your food.
Thanks Drew for showing how a fine line is possible by controlling your writing pressure. I have often written "lighter" and got my Konrad or Ahab with the standard "M/F" Noodler's nib to provide a Japanese Fine - I considered that a feature.

I now finally have a Triple Tail. This is the first Noodler's pen I've bought that works properly for me. I have several Ahabs, Nib Creapers and a Charlie. No amount of meticulous cleaning, heat setting or nib & feed jostling, ink changing, paper changing or writing technique amendment (writing angle, weight/pressure, speed or rotation) has yielded success beyond the initial paragraph. They're just too much hard work. However with the TT either I've just struck lucky, or else their manufacturing has improved. I don't like to knock Noodler's as they've been instrumental in shaking this sector right to the roots. However the other pens are just too temperamental for me, but the TT is not. It works every time for me.

I got a couple of these along with the safety pen demonstrator at the Commonwealth Pen Show. I can't fault the design or build quality but I'm still not quite adjusted to how much ink it throws down. Definitely no problem keeping up. I need to train myself to write quicker with it, as right now, I have a lot of bleed through on my normal papers. It does flex out pretty wide. It's an interesting pen and it's cool to be able to try out a music nib at a lower price point.

9:28 there is simple way to scientifically catalogue nib flex.
    draw a some reference lines (e.g. 1mm and 1.5mm and 2mm).
put the paper on a digital scale.
put the pen on the paper and reset the scale, so that it doesn't account for the pen weight.
draw a line flexing to match the reference line and record the act on camera.
play the video and take note of the force recorded by the scale when the line width corresponds to each reference width

It’s interesting the cotton butyrate doesn’t smell. I thought the original pens were cotton butyrate - the butyric acid gives Noodlers pens their characteristic smell akin to vomit.
However it’s possible the new pens are treated by esterification of the butyric acid, rendering the smell gone!

Fall and Spring are the best times of year.
During summer you can't go outside unless you want to be eaten alive and instantly die of sunstroke, dehydration, and melanoma.
First Frost is the best day of the year.
Spring is good up until about mid May, after which I go into hibernation for the next four months.
Winter is still a perfectly acceptable time of year as long as the sun is out.
I might start migrating to Australia or Chile from June to August just to escape the tortures of summer.

I probably could have asked this about the Neponset before now, but how does the Triple Tail handle pigmented inks for drawing? The usual Platinum carbon + regular flushing deal? Does the different feed help or hinder?

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  4 года назад

It should handle those inks well. The feed allows for a lot of ink to fill it and maintain a good flow. More space for those pigments to work through so less prone to clogging issues. That said, maintaining a regular cleaning schedule is still encouraged. - Colin

10:00 in case anyone is wondering how to get some easy flex without railroadingm listen to the nibmeister here: scotch tape onto the feed. Cut it off with a razorblade or so on the side so it sits flush. the key is and has always been an overfeed.

I really want to love mine, but we aren't meshing yet. I love the nib, it's smooth and would be a favorite even if there was no flex at all! But what am I doing wrong here? Mine throws ink like an arterial bleed-out, just literally flows out of the feed and onto the page in pools. If I wipe it clean, cap it, and take a break, when I come back the cap is full of ink. What the??

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  3 года назад

There are a couple of things that could be going on here. One is the nib or feed could be seated improperly, this sometimes happens if it’s pulled out and put back in the wrong orientation as the nib needs to go in a certain way. It could also be a factor of the ink, some just flow super wet (try a different ink or two and see if that changes anything). If all this is okay, then it might be worth heat setting the feed, which can be done by heating up a mug of water in the microwave to just below a boil, immerse just the feed and nib of the pen into the water (not the grip) for about 30 seconds to heat up they ebonite feed, then pull it out of the water and press the feed up against the nib and hold it there for 30 seconds as it cools. This will make sure the nib and feed are seated well. -Brian

3 minutes sniffing pens. This kind of entertainment is just not available in anywhere else.

SORRY... BUT YOU CHOOSE THE WRONG INK COLLOR.
A music nib draws a lot of ink to the paper and a clear ink collor with high shadding would explore the full potential of the nib itself. Would get much much beter results with the right combination.
A dry nib is not ideal for shadding. But, a wet music nib is ideal for getting all the astonishing results of shadding inks.
PLEASE, REDO THE EXIBITION WITH ANOTHER INK IN THE PEN: PERHAPS NOODLERS DRAGON'S NAPALM INK.

Why can't he just be clear about what he makes these pens from? I'm pretty sure both this and the old plastic are just different forms of cellulose acetate. The obscurantism always makes me suspicious.

We at Noodler's would like to take this moment to assuage you of any fears regarding the materials used in the construction of our pens.
The nib is made from regular Earth steel just like your biological ancestors used to make!
The resin in our pen bodies is a proprietary blend of ingredients that contains well under any known legal requirement for:
      extra solar technologies
metals that do not currently appear on the periodic table of elements
manufacturing techniques that involve energy harvesting outside the human understood four dimensions of spacetime
      manufacturing techniques that violate causality
and Asimov's first - third laws of robotics
      Enjoy your new pen.

The triple tail sucks. It smells like an outhouse and doesn’t really flex well. Fountain Pen Revolution makes better pens at a comparable price.
