Riding the S2 Del Mar where no one ever will

  • With winter fading and summer quickly approaching, I wanted to see what the range on the S2 Del Mar would be with most of my adventure gear loaded on the bike(around 65lbs (30kg)). I decided to take a familiar route and run it against the capabilities of my modded LiveWire One/X.

If you are charging to 100% and the error triangle is coming on after the charge, it might be disabling regen because the battery is full. The error codes may just be generic in that case and causing the bike to shut off related features like cruise control. If the triangle goes away once you use up 10% of the battery or so, then that might confirm. Don't know anything really about how livewire's work (I just like the Del Mar), but have an EV and when at high state of charge, it disables regen. Great series btw.

Thanks! I think the errors codes had something to do with the bike moving without propulsion being on. It usually clears after the bike resets (being off for 15+ mins and not charging). Thankfully LiveWire bikes have regen all the time, even if at 100%

      @@AdventuresonZero is it?
Must be very low I think? When mine (ELW) is at 100 it hardly has any regeneration. Compared with, like 95%

@@RedBatteryHead yep. Keep in mind that 100% really isn’t 100%, which is why regen works

Nice summary of impact of MORE level 2 charging stations compared to Level 3 charging stations, therefore Del Mar may be able to do more and go farther compared to bikes that have level 3 charging but not level 2.

A bike with level 3 charging capability can also use a level 2 charger. It is the same as a car.

@@peterkranenburg1984 just depends if the bike can take advantage of level 2 speeds

    Cool cave on the roadside

Right?! Had no idea it was there, drove by this area many times

The cave exploration was a new wrinkle. I like the little bit of something unusual when you bring it in!
I've found that on my group rides, those with L2 charging capability certainly seem to have an easier time of it than my Livewire One. While CCS is abundant in California, it's very much centered around major interstate routes and large cities. Seems like you've had a similar observation: Level 2 charging is just everywhere at at least 6kw. CCS is much more rare, and L2 at 19kw even more so :)

thanks! There's a trade off for everything. So many 240v sources all over the world, just wish the Del Mar had speed ramping and higher charge rates at all public chargers.

Thats why LW1 should have 4kW charger too now. Best optioins onboard.

How does the stock Del Mar suspension feel overall off-road and also compared to your modified LW1 with Pan America front end? Does the Del Mar compensate for its shorter suspension travel with its lighter weight?

    • @AdventuresonZero
      @AdventuresonZero  10 месяцев назад

The LW1X has much better performance just because the travel is longer. It also has thicker fluids so the compression holds up to sudden bumps and hits better. I haven’t touched the DM suspension, so I might see better performance if I can tech to set up my ride weight properly

Every now and then. Bike still has some bugs to squash. LiveWire is very much on top of this platform, I’ve sent them many video clips showing software issues like that. They have a lot of features coming that no one else has
