- From ESPN at Texas Stadium on April 9, 2001, Troy Aikman announces his retirement from the Dallas Cowboys. ESPN had some interruptions during the press conference for other sports news and then switched over to ESPN2 in the final minutes of the press conference, so some footage is missing.
One of the saddest days in Cowboys history...Aikman will always be my quarterback and the greatest qb in Cowboys history. #FOREVER8
SSDirk very well said..
I'm a giants fan but Aikman was the epitome of class
Bills fan here and I concur
Hey Jerry, it should have been "Troy Aikman, five or six time Super Bowl champion quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys."
Exactly.
Thanks For Uploading ☺🏈
Coach Landry wanted to coach Troy so badly, he called Troy the QB he's been waiting for.
I don't think Troy would have had the career he did under Landry's system, which was far outdated by that time. When Landry asked Staubach to reconsider retirement Roger said "Can I call my own plays?" Staubach was reminded that the Cowboys have a system. Landry was a great coach but he probably should have retired or been let go 4 or 5 years before it happened. Jimmy Johnson was the right coach at the right time.
@@davidpaz9389 Well said.
@@davidpaz9389 Most quarterbacks in 2023 still don't call their own plays. Come up with another lame argument.
Aikman was at Landrys memorial service and spoke to reporters and said one of the biggest regrets of his life was not getting to play for Coach Landry.
Aikman stood in there and delivered aces to his receivers, all day
People wonder why guys retired so young. Back in the day football was so much harder on your body. It wasn’t surprising to see qbs retire at 32
On one of the saddest days of his great career, Aikman still found a way to be witty, articulate, and sincere. He deserves the announcer/color commentary role because he speaks awfully well. The NFL football game itself peaked around 2006-7. It has gone downhill rapidly, under Roger Goodell. Troy mentions the decline, at the 22:30 mark. Players are making a fortune in advertising. It's everyone for themselves as he points out. Anything to make a few more millions. It's all about money now.
You are right Rajesh! It has gone downhill since under Roger Goodell has been in place there are so many things to fix and correct, and he has made it go downhill to please everyone, it does not work that way.
Since Airman's retirement the Cowboys have yet to win a Superbowl
Troy was amazing!!!
so many things whittled away at the even greater potential Aikman's Cowboys teams had...1# Jimmy Johnson leaving after 93 2# between 92 and 94 they lost A LOT of good depth players Ken Norton , Robert Jones, Jimmy Jones , Kenneth Gant , Brock Marion , Alvin Harper, Russell Maryland etc 3# the damn salary cap that was brought mid way during their superbowl run and Jerry Jones cashed almost all of that in on Deion in 95 4# Erik Williams was never quite the same after his broken leg in car accident ...and course career ending injuries to Novacek ,followed by Irvin
My Man Troy 8
All you gen Zers, this is before your time.....
THIS IS CLASS
No disrespect..But when Aikman retired...the Cowboys were irrelevant..that I forgot they were in the league....until this video.
SC your are being disrespectful…You forgot about them? Nobody even knows who you are?? 😂
No respect. But you don't know much about The Dallas Cowboys or NFL history!
