Like the comparison against Star Citizen, Starfield is not a competitor to Elite Dangerous. All three may be space games, but they all do their thing very differently, satisfying different types of gameplay independantly. I just celebrate the fact that we have all these great, high quality space games to choose from and enjoy.
Wait until the modders get ahold of it! I'm still playing Skyrim after over a decade only because the modders keep it fresh. Since I'm now 66, I expect to still be playing Starfield when I'm in a nursing home.
The best way I feel I can summarise it, is that Starfield and Elite Dangerous each contain what is missing from the other; Elite is missing the ship interiors, planetary landscapes and questlines from Starfield, and Starfield is missing the sense of scale and freedom, alongside the actual aspects of space exploration that Elite has. Put simply, these two games each have what the other wants, and I cannot stop thinking about the fact that if these two games were to come together, it would be the best game ever made by anyone regarding space.
Nothing can or will ever replace Elite Dangerous. ED is just unique. Sure, ship-interiors would be the crowning moment for Elite but, hey you can't have it all.
In the category "close to realistic" spacegames, Elite Odyssey has virtually no competition at all EDO is a massive sandbox game with an entire 1:1 fullscale realistic Milkyway galaxy where players do have complete freedom to move around Milkyway galaxy stats in EDO as well as in reality: 100.000 ly diameter 4*10^11 starsystems, with planets, moons, ringsystems etc. Orbital mechanics, simulation of gravity of celestial bodies etc. It's a sandbox game, so we aren't bound to any storyline >20.000 populated starsystems with approx 275.000 stations, in human populated region "the bubble", a little spec in our galaxy, just 1000 ly across SC is just some kind of "cyperpunk" game, less than 100 static starsystems and even scaled down, no orbital mechanics In other way not really a spacegame
Showstoppers for me: It's not VR (I'm a VR-only player these days); On-foot engagement is a requirement (I HATE SPACE LEGS); You can't fly over the surface of planets; It's single-player. Starfield looks awesome, visually, but it simply isn't the game for me.
Yea, definitely agree. I might pick Starfield up when it comes to some sale eventually or something like that, and I'm sure it will be a nice singleplayer bethesda RPG. But there's simply no way it will, at least for me replace Elite, as the main things I enjoy on Elite so much just aren't there, those being the multiplayer aspect, fun but still very realistic flight model and space combat, total freedom of flight and actual exploration. If anything, I think in longer term it might bring more casual players into now somewhat niche category of space games, who after they're done with Starfield might look for more space related/ a bit more sim games 😁
The nay sayers of Elden Ring said that too, look through RUclips, too hard, too big, too much to do, to little freedom....lets enjoy the game but make sure to play Elite Dangerous, I love it on console still, its better there than on Legacy the way it should be without the legs thing. ID Software (Doom) have rebuilt combat perfectly. Asobo perfecting planet tech for Bethesda. Hinted at during the Dune Flight Simulator Expansion reveal.
I could more than guarantee the person who wrote this comment has already pre-ordered it. And it is probably gonna play It. Come 2 more days from now.😅😅😅😅😅 I could more than guarantee it I could put my pension on it
I am a 58 year old gamer. I mentioned this to say that I have been playing video games before Pong on Atari. I lived through the age of quarter arcades and the days of having to worry about if I would have to upgrade my PC hardware so that you could play the latest video games at home. Then came the more powerful console systems. It became in Devs best interest to create games that worked with the console hardware and I no longer had to fork out hundreds to upgrade my system. Thus, I stopped gaming on computer altogether. Elite Dangerous is a great game. I've put in tons of hours playing it. I have to say, however, it is for this reason that Starfield WILL absolutely replace Elite Dangerous for me. This is for one reason and one reason only...they stopped supporting the game for console.
Tell us you've never played a Bethesda game, without telling us... Plenty of players have spent thousands of hours in Skyrim *completely ignoring the story*. Granted, not everybody is an RPG fan, but there are a lot of us who are playing E:D and NMS because they're "close enough" to what we're looking for. Starfield - if it's half as good as Skyrim was at launch - will be a huge leap forward.
RPGs and Simulators are two different genres. But yeah they are not for everyone. And Skyrim is still popular because of the modding community. That's a different experience from playing sims like Elite or ETS2
"Will it be the ultimate space game?" - From what i seen absolutely not. To achive that title they need at least give us a lot of places with quests and few more options of doing things ourselfes (like with mining in ED for example, you got quests for specific stuff to mine, but you can also just mine whatever you get and sell it on market). It would have to be way more open world expirience with initial idea of making a lot of money by a lot of missions to get ships for example. With 1k planets they say we will get there will be enough space for it, will they give us those options? Who knows. "Will it replace ED?" - It definitely can do that. Not completely, but in context of interstellar space game, with laser guns and possibility of CUSTOMIZING your own ship? God damn, I can already see myself wasting tens of hours in this game with only ship creator. One of the first ships that i will create, will be based on Millennium Falcon. 1k planets to visit and god know how many side quests on each with many more in space. However all of that IF starfield turns out to be a good game. Well, all we can do now is wait and don't preorder it nor buy it on premiere, and wait for some reviews to come out. To whoever is reading this, thanks for going through my comment and I wish you all the best.
I'm a huge fan of Skyrim, Fallout 4, and F76. Been playing them for years and own multiple copies. And I already pre-ordered Starfield. Looking forward to it. But my pants are clean lol I'm not worried about a single-player RPG replacing Elite. It will more likely be a gateway for more folks try games like Elite and Star Citizen.
@@lootandgrind I have seen more than enough coping and seething from others who believed you cant play both is what I mean. Wasn't talking about you specifically.
The two games share a common theme but they are vastly different games. I'm definitely going to play Starfield but it won't replace Elite. I've been playing Elite in one form or another since the original. I'm with Elite until Raxxla is found.
Currently invested in ED trying out different approaches to my style of play. I will eventually play Starfield, but I will watch and wait for the hype to die down, and see the progression of its play. It does looks stunning and looking forward to seeing some game play.
Starfield Will NOT Replace Elite Dangerous ( For Me ) - There, fixed the title. While it's not technically an open universe sandbox, neither is Elite Dangerous or you can say they are both open universe sandbox games. The reason I say that is because the game doesn't end in Starfield, just because you finish the main questline. So, what does ED provide than that Starfield does not? I'm not sure. The video failed to provide proof of that argument since just like ED gets updates and DLC, so will Starfield.
Bethesda's The 10th Planet cancelled game in 1998 had around it at the time, Dune, X Beyond The Frontier. They had pure gravity physics with gravity wells and sling shot effects. Skullzi TV has followed this game's progression since 2018 when he discovered this was Bethesda's baby the whole time. 25th Year anniversary of the 1998 trailer release is.......Sept 6th 1998/2023. The Circle is complete, the best of everything in one game. Console players don't need Elite Dangerous Odyssey (Impossible on Consoles FDev said) Series S has Starfield. Skies of Arcadia was 30fps locked, it is one of the Games of the Century. On great games inspiration is taken. GOTY = 1 of 3 Battle = Legend of Zelda (Nin), Final Fantasy (PS5), Starfield (X/S & PC!) let battle commence. Which of these is the most original the most ambitious the most complex......
I stopped playing Elite months ago then tried to come back again but within 10 minutes of playing I can't help but point out to myself, all I'm doing is staring at black space waiting to get from one end to another the majority of the time. The sound in Elite is amazing though. I may get a few visuals for screenshots, maybe PVP against someone with an over engineered ship when I reach whereever it is I'm going. Mining is cool but too much of it grinds the experience. Over lockdown it was fine but now it's just a bit of a bore, people even fall asleep playing it. Starfield is delivering a lot of what Elite promised. Trophy hunting, stealing ships etc. Its single player with mod support, which I'm happy with. I always found multiplayer games get people who have two settings when in a party online and that's to gank or do foolish things that ruin the gameplay if it doesn't involve killing. So I'll just wait to mod the gameplay to be a hardcore survival and get lost searching for artifacts, search and rescue, deep space science expeditions and I'm fully expecting ED sound effects to become a mod or as close to. Let's face it, ED with all those races etc are just attempts to squeeze gameplay out of a game that is absolutely massive but not a lot of depth to it. That new update looks impressive but try and scratch it, like all the gameplay loops, there's not a lot to any of it aside from having to grind mats.
Maybe not for you but definitely for the thousands that will leave Elite once they get all the features they have always wanted and will never get in Elite - base building, NPC crew, boarding, ship interiors, ship designing. Elite has nothing to offer to counter these features. Elite is in an extremely sorry state right now. Not only it is losing players even though the game doesn't have any serious competition right this second except SC but it had a major update a month ago and players are still leaving. Actually if you check the steam charts, Elite recently hit its lowest numbers since the launch of Odyssey. And that's saying a lot. Also there are three new space/sci-fi games coming soon. Theres Starfield, there's the the new open world Star Wars game and then there is the new Dune Awakening MMO which looks amazing. And in the mean time what will Frontier do? Introduce another Thargoid update by the end of the year that no one will care about or rather too few people will care about not least because it is locked by another despicable grind? Or maybe they will share their discussion regarding the planned feature overhaul that only idiots believe will happen at this point after they lied about it once. The situation is quite bad :/ And this is what will keep happening. Developers that will be doing a better job than Frontier (as if that's difficult to achieve) will keep producing new games in the genre and more and more people will leave Elite because Frontier aren't doing anything. Honestly, Frontier have been extremely lucky that that hasn't happened earlier.
None of those games are space simulators. There's a big difference. I don't think even Starfield has flight simulation as detailed as Elite. Only competition Elite has right now is Star Citizen. Players will take a break from Elite to play Starfield. But they will be back to experience the realistic and shared universe of ED.
@@lootandgrind Elite Dangerous is no more a space simulator than StarField. In Elite Dangerous all mechanics of starship flight are fictional and have no relation to science and reality. And the planet collisions suggest that they're not doing well with the mechanics of planets either.
Elite Dangerous has been my “go to” game since 2017. I try to play the big games that come out every year but when the credits roll on those games or I just get bored and quit them… Elite is always there to welcome me back. o7
Totally brother, Expeditions, vast Galaxy & feeling of emptiness, distance, Casual Wing Fights, Wing Missions, Wing Mining, Wing SRV Racing & shenanigans, AX Combat in CZ with 10+ CMDRs going through scouts till the final Hydra war cry...it will take a lot more than Starfield or Star Citizen to replace Elite despite all the naysayers!
I echo everything you say 👍 Even after over 9,000 hours I'm at home and engaged by the Elite Galaxy. Still have goals, still enjoying the unique feel of the game. That won't disappear. Starfield excited me too for sure. Base building, role-play, a fleet of ships, climbing to the top... all great. Happy Days.
2003s Freelancer, had a superb story. It reset the board with you at level 20 of 40 levels and whole quadrants left to explore as a sandbox. I still have a great deal of love for that game and being Edison Trent. Elite has no heart. It is a disgrace that it has no story mode to follow as perhaps single player and then release you into the big black. Elite is by every metric (save not having a story mode) better than Freelancer but I have no love for it and will not miss it when it is time to move on. We have not had day one of Starfield, it could be a dog. It also could potentially be, the one.
@@lootandgrind It is, but that is just a statement of fact. It should not have been. It should have had a story. Freelancer pretty much did it with cut scenes and triggered incidents. Elite has now done cut scenes and has roped off part of the galaxy as New Pilots. This could have been for the single player game which would have introduced players to each discipline in a much better way than, here is your ship. No controls are mapped to a sensible location. There is no controls overlay for your keyboard (like you always used to get and I think I got in the original Elite). Work it out for yourself. Very poor.
I'll definitely be playing Starfield since it will be on Game Pass. But apart from that I have no expectations whatsoever. I've been overhyped with other games, only to be disappointed when they released. So I try to steer clear of all the hype and will just see if I like it whenever I feel like it. Meanwhile I got the Odyssey DLC for Elite Dangerous a few weeks ago on a sale. Have been working on getting the player faction I used to play with back on track since (most people left so the influence dropped quite a bit). With ED you just need a reason to do whatever you're doing. Simply grinding materials will only burn you out real quick. Better do something meaningful and everything else will unlock at some point. ED is also a game that I can play however I want. Want to watch youtube? Just take delivery missions and use the shuttle service (doing exactly this while typing this comment). Want action? Drop into a conflict zone, etc. Very few games are this flexible in play style imho.
Your loyal to elite dangerous, I play it myself...but i think your wrong, skyrim was loved by millions, and so addictive.. Bethesda makes games that keep you interested for years...frontier have pissed people around for ages and have really dumbed on console players, I play odyssey on my pc, great game sure, but starfield is going to rock big time...watch and see.....
It'll be a new experience for sure but a very different one from Elite. Thankfully, players don't have to choose. They can play whichever game they feel like playing at any given time
The major Achilles heel about Starfield for me will be the fact that you can't game with other players. If not open play like ED then they should've at least gave everyone the option to play co-op.
I definitely feel like the ground exploring is going to be way better on starfield just because the actual on foot mission going into these massive bases pirate bases shooting up people doing things styles going in the whole zero gravity thing. That's also a big thing that almost no other game really does then don't really have a zero gravity. I don't know why it games don't do that with the exception of data space is the only one I could remember
i was afraid that this game take the place of ED but now im thinking, i dont think its that big as ED, mainly cause evrygame this days its made to be fun 100% of the gameplay or at least that what they try, and its impossible, ppl now days dont have the time to think or do stuff in long time term, ED is vast and dont think every other space game will do that than no mans sky and ED, maybe Starfield is a good match to star citizen, a "small" game that never grow up enough, anyway i want to play it and enjoy it :D
Nah man, not even Star Citizen can do it for me. Elite is my love, ma pashion. I can play how ever i want. I have all the freedom to tackle a mission from which angle i wish to do it. Whether it's gonna be stealth entry on ground, or guns blazing after disabling alarms. Or cargo runs with my ship. Anything is possible to do. The one thing you can't is walking inside of a ship and leaving it or entering it without loading screen. Flying to a planet and actually landing on it and dusting of exists. And to think i only recently found out about Elite Dangerous Odyssey is mind-blowing to me.
My plan? I'll do a month of Xbox Gamepass to try starfield. I've tempered my expectations of a Bethesda game release, but they do seem to be influenced by other great space games. X3 and X4 you hire marines to take over a capital ship (as 1st person play is a lot less in those games), lots of No Man's Sky and Starfield influence on the terrain and flora and fauna, Space Engineers style mining, I'm looking forward to it.
Here's the problem with the logic. 2 words: Modding. Community. They will alter the game to the point of their liking. They will add new ships components, new worlds, new places to explore. It will only be a matter of time before they make it a full flight sim with more worlds than ever that can be landed on, built on, and mroe ship to ship combat mechanics than Elite has.
I'm with you. Will definitely want to have a good delve into Starfield if I can, but given that it is not an open ended game, I can't see it nudging Elite of the table. It looks amazing. If I'm being honest, I can find the story mode of linear games a bit boring unless its extremely well handled. Maybe it will be all that and a very rewarding experience, but as with all story based games, once you've completed it - what next? The replayability of games like this on a second run through is much less rewarding
To be fair, Elite is sort of making itself replacable due to the devs failures. Its not even a game in development, its full release, and sadly its time seems to be well over.
@@Tamburello_1994 Incredibly poor Odyssey launch, space-legs but no ship interiors, fleet carriers and the entire decommissioning process, shallow alien "narrative," ALL activities are far too repetitive and basic, 400 billion star systems only to have 0.06% explored after nearly nine years, and so on. I admit that I had some fun times in Elite, and new players do have something to look forward to for dozens, if not hundreds of hours. However, it won't be long before they realize the true "depth" of Elite. For me, the spark died after 1000 hours, and neither No Man's Sky nor Star Citizen (which comes with its own set of issues) were able to replicate what I felt when first playing Elite. So yeah, the developers' inability to understand what players want is what drove me away from this game, which has been on life support since Odyssey. That is why I can't wait to play Starfield, a game I expected Elite to become one day.
@@lootandgrind Some of these same people "complain" ED is "boring" -- so I cannot imagine how a single player story game will keep folks interested for too long before they'll be moaning for more content.
The only advantage I see that most other space games have over star field is going to be that you have multiplayer or co-op PVP PVE that kind of thing other than that. And of course real people are going to be much smarter than an NPC no matter what at the end of it all. But the amount of weapons that you can build and customize. And then on top of it all, you have some kind of force abilities, probably towards the end of the story that's just going to enhance the experience that much more. And I guarantee you there's going to be enough side content to keep people busy for hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hours if they explore enough because I think a lot of the content they have a lot of side missions that is going to be randomly generated. So there's always going to be something new to do
If Starfield and Elite dangerous had a baby, it would be the perfect space game. Starfield does all the things elite never completed. Elite is mindbogglingly vast and realistic which is what makes it so incredible.
Elite Dangerous is its own problem. They devs dont seem to care what the average player wants to see in the game, just what the few want. Starfield could be great, but it could also just be bad, like Fallout 76. If its dont correctly it could pull a lot of people away from Elite as you might be able to do everything that Elite offers and more. That is Elites problem. I and quite a few others only play Elite in private mode, if they offered a completely offline mode in Elite I would use that 99.9% of the time. I will however wait for Starfield and see what people think of it, that is what I do with all games, especially "AAA" ones as most are 10000% garbage.
i think it will replace elite for me. i can see ur passion for elite but for me its too grindy and time consuming. i understand elite's mechanics can be appealing to some but not all. starfield seems promising but need to wait till release. until then nothing is certain.
I love play Elite with my friends, so that is not going to replace, now StarCitizen, that is a bit more complicated, I don't really know much people there so probably I'm going to drop SC for a while, and is buggy, gets wiped each month so doing the same thing is not fun, Starfield in that sense looks more interesting.
Battlebit Remastered will take the title for biggest game of 2023. It's a masterpiece, though not a space game. 😎Infinity Battescape is the biggest disappointment for me, as it lacks in game tutorials and the ships look cheap.
Anyone thinking Starfield is going to replace Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen, likely haven't played one or both of those games. Starfield is not a space sim like Elite and Star Citizen. if anything, its a roided up No Man's Sky but without total free flight in space or on planets. I'm excited to play Starfield but as a SPACE SIM replacer or as some folks call it, a "Elite of Star Citizen killer," no its not going to do that.
Definitely will replace a lead for me just because elite dangerous has set ships and when you get the best one you're kind of maxed out with starfield you're building your ship and these ships can be built massive and I like the way you can walk through your ship. You can hire crew members to run your ship. Run your space station. There's lots of on foot combat. There's just so much more and I don't think starfield is a game that is going to end anytime soon. Sure you can streamline the main story but there's going to be so much side quest and so much side content. And Todd already said he's got 10 years of plan DLC plus all the mods that are going to be coming in for the game. Starfield is going to be a game that I in one year after releases at two of the most. It's going to be a whole completely different game. People are going to have those empty planets are probably going to be modded with bases and all kinds of things that people are going to be adding on top. It truly is going to be something spectacular. I like anything dangerous. I think it's cool. It is definitely more sim like but it also takes a very very long time to get anywhere good when you start from the ground up. So for people who are newer to the genre, it's a lot harder to get into. There's definitely a lot of repeat side quests that you have to do. Feels more like kind of like an MMO where you just have to kind of grind and grind and grind until you get to a certain point before you can make any upgrades. Starfield you can just go and steal the people's ships park in there. Shoot everybody inside and just take it as your own
I will wait 70% discounts. From the space game I want realism to understand how it would be to be in space. And this one, including others like NMS, star wars - are fakes, those are pre-designed locations where designer thinks it could look like, but they're wrong. When you see gas giant over whole the sky you expect volcanoes on this planet, not green trees. So this game is about "space elfs". I have skyrim, teso, fallout(s) already, I don't need another elfs yet. Elite does real current scientific modelling OR don't do it at all. It's fair understanding of how real space could be.
Why are channels all doing this with their video titles? Most people who play space games play multiple space games. I love NMS, Star Citizen, Stellaris, X4, Everspace and on and on. You can play and love all the space games without ever having to, "Either/or".
The spaceship combat in Starfield is kind of trash in comparison to Elite Dangerous, to be honest. Plus, the loading screens in Starfield kills the immersion for me. Elite Dangerous has seemless landings, take-offs... pretty much seamless everything, with the only loading screen being when you first load up the game. Also, Elite Dangerous' sound design is leaps and bounds better than Starfield's.
ED is definitely the most expansive of the two (at least initially). However, Starfield has one significant advantage. You will be able to enjoy a great space game for less than $300 on an Xbox series S. ED requires an in-the-thousands dollar PC instead.
Im geting StarFeild .......BECAUSE Star Citizen...AND...Elite Dangerous Odyssey... dose not Offer What StarField offer, the very Fact that StarFiled is a Single player game makes it head and shoulders above the competition....IN MY OPINION. I play Star Citizen alone be cause most of my Friends F-up most of the time making my experience bad , I play Elite Dangerous alone because there is NO real....FUN.... Incentive to play with other people. When I did play with other people in Elite, all we did was complain how bad the GRIND we BOTH had to do together. And at the End both have come to the same Conclusion that we will Return to Both Star citizen and Elite Dangerous When Both titles come to the same QUALITY of StarField.
As a solo player myself, I understand the point you're trying to make. But you can't expect a space simulator MMO to be the same as a single player RPG.
@@lootandgrind Obvious you missed what I Typed, and you did not read my comment FULLY, I DON'T expect Star Citizen OR Elite to be a Single player game. in FACT StarField is a Single player game is the REASON I'm getting it. in both games, Star Citizen & Elite Dangerous you have the Option to play Alone. ( AND you KNOW this ). Henceforth in the case of Elite Dagerous making it not all together a dedicated " MMO" being that it has a SOLO option. P.S. I never mention in my post above the Term "Single Player RPG"
@@lootandgrind I was Clear stating that BECAUSE i play Star Citizen ALONE & Elite Dangerous ALONE, this make Playing StarFiled that much more easier and Exciting. Thats all my brotha.
I Play Elite Dagerous as well every Three years, and I play it on SOLO mode cus there isn't any benefit to gain in the game playing with other players but other than do Large delivery missions together and split the founds . Bounty hunting can be done in a wing but after the action is over , you are all standing around like all the agent smiths in matrix reloaded looking at each other like..... Whats do we do now.
Refuses to do what the community actualy wants and fumbles all its content releases. Had to drop it. They are building a game but have now clue what people want. It was fun for a while but im good on it now. There will be other better space games
Of course. No one can play the same game forever. There will definitely be better games. In fact, I'm rooting for Star Citizen, if it actually releases in this lifetime.
Thank you for making this video. I wholeheartedly agree. I know I'll spend a lot of time in Starfield, but I'll always return to ED. I've loved Elite since I played Frontier on the Amiga (500, 1200 and CD32). Also been playing Bethesda games since Elderscrolls 1 Arena 😄 Yes I'm that old
If Starfield does not bomb it's definitely replacing Elite for me. Elite is a dead game with barely any toys in the sandbox as far as I am concerned. No new player ships in roughly 5 years. Abandoned game systems. They are so secretive who knows if there is anything substantial in near term. On that the development generally moves at a snails pace compared to other live service games. 6k hrs in Elite myself.
You can Post any videos you want about elite, dangerous, not being dead, this game is dead, the Devs don't care about it, the players are fed up about it. If the debs would have Listen to their fan base by adding player housing, ship interiors and so on. This game probably wouldn't still have life...... but no longer.. Frontier the distant themselves because they're lazy.
For me it will replace Elite. Sorry but until fDev remove or repair engineers grinding game is unplayable and i will be satisfied with any space game that is in playable state.
I understand the frustration around the engineering aspect of the game. But the game is not unplayable because of it. I've been playing the game for a long time and I only lightly engineer my ships. Anyone can easily play the game without ever having to engineer a ship.
No way it will replace Elite Dangerous for me. Starfield heavily.. ahem... "borrows" from ED, including the very obvious subtargetting of modules. I mean, come on. Then, single-player? Nope. I thoroughly enjoy my Community Goals hanging out with others. Sure, I'd love to have ship interiors and the better graphics these other games have but I'm not giving up ED for that. Finally, I won't even try Starfield until they add VR support.
As an early backer of Elite: Dangerous from it's kickstarter days, i can say the steaming pile of horseshit which is E:D cannot be replaced by anything else.
It's already lost a thousand players to Starfield, and it's not even out yet. That's a fifth of the verifiable playerbase. E:D has a core of a few thousand players left, if that. Once Starfield drops, that number will be decimated. I predict that FDev will be shutting the E:D servers down between here and the end of the financial year.
@@cmdrHeliaxx Denial is a hell of a drug. Steam is the biggest platform the game is available on - as such the playercount there will represent the majority of the playerbase, and since Starfield information started dropping it's provably lost over 1k regular players.
@@tehPete I'm not saying Steam charts aren't relevent - only that what you're trying to say isn't reflected there, the playernumbers are nowhere near where they would tell some dramatic decline due to Starfield, the numbers Are Always somewhat increasing after big updates And then dropping to a lower level, and even the last 30 days aren't anywhere we've not been numerous times before.
Elite Dangerous is an Empty and Boring Flight Smulator abandoned by its Creator. So any actual Game is better by default. But Starfield is a different Genre. Comparing it is meaningless.
replace Elite?? Did they realize how insane and delusional the Star Citizen comparisons were, so they changed their narrative to "replacing Elite"??? Which won't happen either, in my opinion 😆. Competing with No Man Sky is more of an achieveable goal for this game. This is a pretty game with no substance. I mean it will be popular for a month or two then nobody will talk about it after that. There are too many things in this game that are too basic . The ship building is nice, but the rest have all been done before and done better
I slapped this on my wish list and forgot all about it. I'm sad to see it's a single player game. The real fun with most games is sharing them with friends and other players, but it'll likely be a nice distraction for a while.
E:D might as well be a single player game. Game is BORING just like NMS. Instances of the same regurgitated planet algorithms over and over. No thanks.
ED is boring and badly developed. Many of the things in Starfield CAN'T be done in ED, nor has ED the ability to change the game, only add on it. Engineering in ED is BAD, the weapons have NOT changed either for ships or on foot. The ability NOT to modify ships bodies, modify gun, nor change paint for free in ED by the player. Why is it that ED has NOT produced a NEW ship for players for 5 years? Why is it everything is a grind for resources, money and new players don't get that ability to new ship as there behind a grind wall with the powers. Sorry I really disagree and think Starfield is FAR better than ED as Starfield took note of ED issues and complaints and made sure the players got what ED players had justly complained about in ED.
It's all a matter of perspective. The grind is a grind if you hate playing the game. There are players who's been playing ED for over 5,000 hours and still log in every day. And let's not forget Starfield is a single-player RPG. Not a space sim with a 1:1 scale Milky Way galaxy and one universe shared by thousands of players
Idek know why you said Starfield won’t replace Elite. The biggest difference is that Elite is multiplayer and Starfield Singleplayer. Don’t even see how single player would replace a Multiplayer but alright.
Diference is simulation of landing fly, atmosfere, etc. Starfield use cinrmatics. I am agree with you abbaut devs of ED,if they implemented ship interiors, some life planets, aliens(i am bored by targoids),and maybe some bases, game whas great. But ED have his place even that missing.
Starfield isnt the same type of game as Elite Dangerous either. Its a single player RPG. The amount of people who thought it was something else is insanity.
Star field has way too much hype going for it right now and it honestly looks fairly bland and like everything in it I’ve already seen before but done better.
Of course. It will definitely have a dedicated player base
No amount of modding will ever turn Starfield from an RPG to a SIM.
I will play Starfield from day 1 for sure, but no game will replace Elite Dangerous for me. Agree with you
Of course. I've already pre-ordered it
The best way I feel I can summarise it, is that Starfield and Elite Dangerous each contain what is missing from the other; Elite is missing the ship interiors, planetary landscapes and questlines from Starfield, and Starfield is missing the sense of scale and freedom, alongside the actual aspects of space exploration that Elite has.
Put simply, these two games each have what the other wants, and I cannot stop thinking about the fact that if these two games were to come together, it would be the best game ever made by anyone regarding space.
Well put.
No game will replace other. Play both for gods sake. or rather, play what YOU want to play.
Nothing can or will ever replace Elite Dangerous. ED is just unique. Sure, ship-interiors would be the crowning moment for Elite but, hey you can't have it all.
In the category "close to realistic" spacegames, Elite Odyssey has virtually no competition at all
EDO is a massive sandbox game with an entire 1:1 fullscale realistic Milkyway galaxy where players do have complete freedom to move around
Milkyway galaxy stats in EDO as well as in reality:
100.000 ly diameter
4*10^11 starsystems, with planets, moons, ringsystems etc.
Orbital mechanics, simulation of gravity of celestial bodies etc.
It's a sandbox game, so we aren't bound to any storyline
>20.000 populated starsystems with approx 275.000 stations, in human populated region "the bubble", a little spec in our galaxy, just 1000 ly across
SC is just some kind of "cyperpunk" game, less than 100 static starsystems and even scaled down, no orbital mechanics
In other way not really a spacegame
Showstoppers for me: It's not VR (I'm a VR-only player these days); On-foot engagement is a requirement (I HATE SPACE LEGS); You can't fly over the surface of planets; It's single-player. Starfield looks awesome, visually, but it simply isn't the game for me.
Starfield Is Just a Better Mass effect.
you may feel the world alive around you, but it's not a space sim.
That's very true. And I totally agree 👍
I mean if Bethesda can mess up SPACE I'll be very very surprised.
Elite a d'énormes lacunes comme je l'ai expliqué plus haut !
I understand your frustration. And yes I think Starfield will be an impressive experience for Xbox players.
Might play this game, but will continue to live in Elite :).
Very good take. But it's too late for me. Already pre-ordered lol
From approach to orbiting to landing on planets- the seamless transition is intentionally missing in SF. I think this is a big mistake.
Watching the community of every space game collectively shit their pants at the sight of Starfield is great as a Bethesda fan
The more space games the better!
I will spend many long hours in Starfield. But unless it has a flight model with 6 dof, it will not replace elite.
That's the best approach to playing games
ED is not a game for everyone. And you shouldn't have to force yourself to play any game. Play what you enjoy the most ✌️
Maybe not for you but definitely for the thousands that will leave Elite once they get all the features they have always wanted and will never get in Elite - base building, NPC crew, boarding, ship interiors, ship designing.
The situation is quite bad :/
And this is what will keep happening.
I try to play the big games that come out every year but when the credits roll on those games or I just get bored and quit them… Elite is always there to welcome me back. o7
Same here. I also play lots of other games but I always come back to Elite
I echo everything you say 👍
Even after over 9,000 hours I'm at home and engaged by the Elite Galaxy. Still have goals, still enjoying the unique feel of the game. That won't disappear.
Starfield excited me too for sure. Base building, role-play, a fleet of ships, climbing to the top... all great. Happy Days.
That's very inspiring. 9K hours in the game is impressive. o7
@@lootandgrind i have an understanding wife....
elite just need the interiors of the ships and that´s it
2003s Freelancer, had a superb story.
It's because Elite is a sandbox space simulator
@@lootandgrind It is, but that is just a statement of fact. It should not have been. It should have had a story. Freelancer pretty much did it with cut scenes and triggered incidents. Elite has now done cut scenes and has roped off part of the galaxy as New Pilots. This could have been for the single player game which would have introduced players to each discipline in a much better way than, here is your ship. No controls are mapped to a sensible location. There is no controls overlay for your keyboard (like you always used to get and I think I got in the original Elite). Work it out for yourself. Very poor.
however i don't understand why people compare it to elite which is a multiplayer mmo instead of sq42 which is a single player never made.
Space trucking while listening to music or a podcast is so relaxing. One of the many reasons why I love ED
If my ship is full of hallways, breakrooms, and crew, I won't have room for more bertrandite.
How about companions with romance options? lol
I would love to see that too. Modding community come up with the coolest stuff
"devs failures"
Like?
Elite is actually in a pretty good state right now. Development is slow but the devs keep polishing the game with every update
That is why I can't wait to play Starfield, a game I expected Elite to become one day.
it will absolutely DESTROY it. The only thing better in elite is the exploration and ax combat.
it's single player tho, so, it wont.
Things will seem like it for a while but players will be back in Elite after a couple of playthroughs in Starfield.
@@lootandgrind Some of these same people "complain" ED is "boring" -- so I cannot imagine how a single player story game will keep folks interested for too long before they'll be moaning for more content.
RPG vs Simulator with Fantasy. The only game that has chance to match elite when released is Star Citizen.
Comparing Starfield to Elite Dangerous makes as much sense as comparing Skyrim to WoW. Similar settings, totally different games.
So there's always going to be something new to do
Starfield looks great, but the loading screens won't allow it to replace Elite for me. Unfortunately, we can not combine both games 😅
That's a very good point 👍
Well because it cost an incredible 70 bucks, It won't replace anything for me for a very long time.
ED players will definitely switch over to Starfield. But only for a short while. They'll be back after a month or two at most
i think it will replace elite for me. i can see ur passion for elite but for me its too grindy and time consuming. i understand elite's mechanics can be appealing to some but not all. starfield seems promising but need to wait till release. until then nothing is certain.
Let's hope the launch goes smoothly. I will be playing it day-one
It's Mass Effect wrapped in a different package. That -- and it's a single player game so that's a big no-no for me.
It's actually more like No Man's Sky in many ways
@@lootandgrind I don't play that game. Never have, never will.
It killed me seeing some of the top Elite RUclipsrs saying Starfield is going to replace Elite
Shoot everybody inside and just take it as your own
Like your videos, keep it up.... totally agree with you
Appreciate it!
In terms of realism, there's no other space game like Elite and there never will be. At least not for a long time
Can someone explain to me why use a space suit with helmet, in a planet with water, trees and all kind of biological life?
You can take it off on safe environments. But it looks cool lol
It looks like an "adult NMS".
I am excited to play it but I don't think it replace Elite for me either.
As messed up as Elite can be its an thing lol.
Exactly. It's a unique mess that can't be replaced lol
It won't replace Elite dangerous, but it will definitely take most of Elite players from Elite
Of course. Only for a short while though
@@lootandgrind My guess would be 20-30 hours.
It certainly will on console.
Good point
ED is definitely the most expansive of the two (at least initially).
However, Starfield has one significant advantage. You will be able to enjoy a great space game for less than $300 on an Xbox series S.
ED requires an in-the-thousands dollar PC instead.
ED is available on consoles. You can even play it on last-gen consoles. It's no longer getting updates but it has all the core game content.
You can also play Elite on GeForce Now by the way.
Sounds to me like you haven't tried mining yet. Give it a try. It's the most peaceful experience you'll have in a game
Also been playing Bethesda games since Elderscrolls 1 Arena 😄 Yes I'm that old
But elite is dying if not dead already 😅.
Just because you don't know how to play it doesn't mean it's dead.
After 6k hours, I think you deserve to switch over to a new game
You can Post any videos you want about elite, dangerous, not being dead, this game is dead, the Devs don't care about it, the players are fed up about it. If the debs would have Listen to their fan base by adding player housing, ship interiors and so on. This game probably wouldn't still have life...... but no longer.. Frontier the distant themselves because they're lazy.
it's a shame starfield doesn't have multiplayer in full 2023 lol
You make a good point 👍
As an early backer of Elite: Dangerous from it's kickstarter days, i can say the steaming pile of horseshit which is E:D cannot be replaced by anything else.
Sadly not. That'll keep my life-long ED-addiction going. 😔
Frontier abandoned Xbox Series X so yes, Starfield will replace Elite Dangerous. Screw Frontier.
Where did you get the data? I haven't noticed a drop in player counts for Elite Dangerous. It's been the same for the past months
@@lootandgrind Steamcharts
@@tehPete Ye. That's exactly where Its not lol
"Popular for a month" You have never played a Bethesda RPG coming out with a stupid statement like that.
Elite what?
You know -- The game you hate to love.
I slapped this on my wish list and forgot all about it. I'm sad to see it's a single player game. The real fun with most games is sharing them with friends and other players, but it'll likely be a nice distraction for a while.
Well said
E:D might as well be a single player game. Game is BORING just like NMS. Instances of the same regurgitated planet algorithms over and over. No thanks.
ED blew it with odysee.
Odyssey is pretty cool to be honest.
Yes it will
ED is boring and badly developed.
Lmao what, I got several paintjobs for each of my ships and carrier and I didn't pay for single arx 😂
Agree!
Star field has way too much hype going for it right now and it honestly looks fairly bland and like everything in it I’ve already seen before but done better.
