- Sam Roberts talks to Cody Rhodes at the premiere of his new WWE Doc American Nightmare - Becoming Cody Rhodes about getting to the main event of Wrestlemania, losing to Roman Reigns, Vince McMahon flying to his house to sign him, the promo for MITB, the story behind his pec tear and why he regrets it, his last AEW promo, Arn Anderson’s Glock, Matt Cardona being a pecker checker, his Peacock documentary, and more, on Notsam Wrestling.
Cody is such a pro. The way he carries himself, well spoken, very articulate. Treats the business with so much respect👏🏼
Hard to believe he started with such a lisp that you could not understand his promo's.
Ya hes classy, no scandals or trouble. Def good for the company.
@@thesportsguy126 absolutely 👏🏼👏🏼
well his father is thee dusty rhodes
Treats fake fighting with such respect
I could listen to Cody talk all day.
I can't believe how smooth Cody's interviews are. These 40 minutes were plesant, just like all his other interviews.
My favorite person from the current WWE roster is Cody Rhodes. I'm a new fan and got into it over the last 3 months. There is so much content and history it's overwhelming at times, but overall, Cody is the person I've had the most fun watching perform and give interviews.
Same here, cam back after not having watched in 20 something years and Cody immediately drew me in.
thats cool what originally peaked your interest in order to start watching because most people grew up with this so its cool to see someone who comes in fresh
@@Wolf-jr8ez I saw some streamers watching clips of Stone Cold on RUclips and started to binge clips of Stone Cold, The Rock, and John Cena on my own. A few weeks later, I was scrolling through Hulu and saw they had Raw and Smackdown. I've been watching it since. I always thought wrestling was cringe/trashy growing up. Man, was I wrong.
I've seen Cody since his debut 16 years ago. Been a fan since. His AEW run wasnt great mostly due to booking but he was trying to juggle being a performer and behind the scenes.
Nice try… u been watchin
He's the most genuine guy in wrestling, and one of the few that can pull off a pure babyface gimmick and have the fans still be completely behind him. Hope he wins in Philly!
Genuine???? What are you smoking he lies constantly
Watch any interview he did when he was in AEW and see how much he lied
@@Syfcobra8549 👀👀
@@Syfcobra8549you forget he was also an EVP and could only say so much
Like him but he sounds like a fake car salesman.
@@j.k.1239 Is the car fake? Or is the salesman fake? I'm confused.
I've watched all things Cody Runnels related these last few months and I have to say that he's a really down to earth guy that only wants to better himself as much as possible.
His talent is through the roof, his value of selfworth is through the roof and his love and passion for his wrestling and making people happy, is through the roof.
I always loved his characters over the years, the Legacy Cody, Stardust, the smug Cody and now I absolutely adore the American Nightmare Cody is absolutely amazing.
I look forward to seeing his character increase in popularity over the years and I hope he gets to lift that world championship, not only for him, but for Dusty too!
26:36 is where Vince comes in
good man 🥃
I met him 3 weeks ago and he didnt disappoint. He was very humble, genuine, kind and had really good energy. Im such a fan of his. ❤
I was so crushed when Cody Lost to Roman Reigns, I really thought he would be the one to end him n it would have been perfect considering his hard struggle climb upwards.
think what makes Codys rise so good is that he has a legit long backstory of his fall n rise, his story is one of perseverance and he never stopped trying to climb up. He worked so hard n left WWE in hopes of growing n it paid off, it also helps that he has the looks of a babyface & someone respectable to rally behind through his personality n mentality.
I think Codys return is something that represents the American values n dream well, the American belief is one that 1 can rise through hard work n that it would pay off one day, he is someone that fits the mold look of a Captain America basically n he packages himself so well in his ring attire, his choice of words when cutting promos, his upstanding personality.
"Was that an earthquake?" was so funny
I thought it was going into an ad break for how long and still his face was
5:17 Earthquake?
It legit made me come to the comments to see who mentioned it 😂
Maybe it was a typhoon??
Why was it funny?
Nick and Matt Jackson are in the documentary, and they signed off on it.
Cody says "How could they not be?", and he's absolutely right. It's still surprising that WWE was cool with it, but good on everybody.
Right?! I wish promotions were more open to having working agreements with each other. Just imagine a Wrestlemania Supercard with people from every major promotion in the world. Every major championship in the industry being prepresented at this one show, crosspromotional dream matches. It would be a liscense to print money, man.
@@ojmcclanahan689it would be nice but at the same time look at WWE business model the reason they don't work with any other company is because of business wwe is a publicly traded company they are not wrestling they are entertainment why am I gonna give free publicity to another company and making money off my business that's why Vince is God he knew how to turn WWE from regional wrestling promotion into a global entertainment enterprise
I was at WM 38 here in Dallas, 39 in Los Angeles and I’ll be in Philly for 40. So glad to be part of the Beginning, middle and possibly end of the Story for Cody!

Cody gets it. He's a pro's pro in and out of the ring and he deserves everything that's happened and what happens in the future which I believe and hope will be beating Roman at WrestleMania 40 💯
You really think Vince is going to make lose his pet project of the last 10 years lose to a guy that helped create a company that ended his monopoly over wrestling??? Lmao
You are so naive and innocent 😅🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

Go watch an interview when he was in AEW, And the see the amount of lies he says
Hes a "pro's pro in and out of the ring" yet he was the main guy taking shots at WWE back when he was in AEW
I love that he’s picked up the “things of that nature” line from Vince. Cody is great!
THE UNSUNG HERO OF WRESTLING PODCASTS. You’re appreciated Sam
Only 14 mins in and I just can’t wait for Wrestlmania 40. Hopefully I’ll be attending and have the chance to watch him finish his story ❤️
Dude you have to
Overrated
It's the Bald & the blonde
Rude 😂😂😂
Damn you can hear the pain in his voice talking about wrestlemania
There’s something special about Roman. There’s no denying that. However, there’s something even MORE special about Cody. Cody can make you forget you’re watching fantasy. Cody makes you believe he’s really getting in there and fighting for everything. When he loses; you lose with him. When he wins, you win with him. He’s brought back the magic of pro wrestling; something so many of us thought was dead.
for Roman, i think we (as audience) see him as corporate man (and his connection to The Rock)
fans dislike that
I can just imagine Vince telling the pilot to land the plane on cody’s front lawn.
Thanks for representing the fans with a lot of your questions, Sam. Great stuff.
Cody Rhodes always gives great interviews! Bro always has awesome stories too ! Hope he wins the title next wrestlemania
It would be a f'n crime if WWE doesn't put the belt on this dude.
Who's to say they wont? All in due time
You are so down to earth and passionate about your interviews and your career. Well deserved.
Cody Was About To Get Outta There “Was That A Earthquake?” 😭😭😭
I don’t remember the specifics of when it happened, but I think one of the best parts of Cody is AEW run was the one time that he teased going back in the heel tunnel instead of going in the face tunnel
I know that it’s literally just an allegory and those tunnels literally both go to the same place, but it was a wonderful metaphor for him to play with
Returning fan here. Cody didn’t catch my eye back in 2012 when Punk was white hot.
Now? Since his WWE return after building up AEW?
He’s “the guy” now. He’s not just Dusty’s son who has to fill his dad’s shoes. He’s the product of a lifetime of hard times and work. I’m definitely a fan and can’t wait to see him raise the belt. His mania match this past year was amazing and emotional.
I can relate to what Cody said about his attitude. I'm the first to tell my co-workers to get out of work if they are even a little bit sick. I'm like "TF you are doing here? Go home! You are sick!!" But when it comes to myself, I used to be like "one eye moves, get to work", until that one time I went to work with sore throat. Had just been sick for a week cuz of bad case of larygnitis i think it was. Then i went back and was working as an assistant teacher with sixth graders. A place where you NEED your voice. Went there, had to shout, my voice broke. Since then, whenever i get even a small flu, my voice goes away. Completely. And even when healthy, if i talk for a long time, my voice breaks. Like Brock lesnar, is suddenly sound like puberty teen with voice going bonkers. I haven't gotten it checked, but I'm pretty sure that one time I damaged my vocal cords permanently.
So if you are sick, rest. Don't be a hero, cuz if you try to be, you are just gonna be an idiot
Sam, you are such a "GREAT" interviewer. Don't care if it is wrestling or on "The Jim and Sam Show" interviewing is your strong point dude!
Cody is finally a top guy in wwe
I started watching when I was 10 in 2012 around the time the shield debuted all the way until 2018-2019. I decided to casually get back into wwe by watching wrestlemania 39, money in the bank, and summer slam. I still know many people on the roster and i’m loving all the new people as well especially LA knight. I went to this recent Monday night raw 08/07 and it was my first show. I honestly got emotional seeing so many people from my childhood like my long time fav Seth Rollins and Cody who was a mid carder for the longest time. Now look at him! It’s amazing to see him thrive.
FINISH THE STORY!! Love from your hometown of Atlanta my man!
My Linda Lie is that my great great aunt was one of the lullaby league munchkins in the Wizard of Oz 1933 film. What I leave out is that she was my great great step aunt. But the legend is more fun to trot out at the occasional party.
That was a great interview. Cody is a decent dude.
Cody is a perfect face for a company, really good wrestle, got the pedigree, great at promos, great at interviews, and he is a great ambassador
Cody’s outfit, his coat and pants are seriously cool as hell to the point of being better than many Superheroes costumes in print, movies and TV shows now and in the past especially his recent Wrestlemania gear..if he turned heal his gear could easily reflect that by going dark, complete absence of colour to say the light has left me and my character and now it’s about making everyone pay.
Cody still has the arm brace ??? 😭. Bro is dedicated
Thank u sam the best wrestling interviewer in the biz
Cody needs a new move called Georgia Earthquake.
Cody saw the BTE footage leaving his doc and said, WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU"RE GOING?
That main event hurt me fr 😭
Going to the gym in flip flops is crazy 😂😂
😂
Jesus, is this Dusty Rhodes son? I haven't watched wrestling in years. Dusty was such a great talker. I loved when he was on.
Cody rhodes must be very happy and surprise to be back already in the wwe and enter in number 30 in royal rumble and then finally wins this year royal rumble too also as well so proud of the American Nightmare and one of the best ever too so still much love to Cody rhodes and don't ever change !! ❤🙂😉😍
So I finally decided to press that sub button. I'm also happy to see you didn't die, Sam. 🤣 (No Friday show, but maybe this is interview is why?)
Such an awesome dude
People loved the AEW character, was just played slightly too meta and the crowd was also slightly confused. Was so close to working for me tho, was for sure a great idea the “dark superhero”
I understood it, but couldn't get my friends to understand.
I really hope Cody wins the title at the main event by WM42. 2023 has been the most legendary year for him.
Cody should have Won at Wrestlemania...P.E.R.I.O.D
Cody is the consummate professional. Definitely the face of wwe post roman era
They finally got Sting for a Wrestlemania match and they had HHH go over. This company will never change, they’ve always made awful booking decisions when it matters most and they always will.
A honestly think Cody has grew so much in the 6 year that a wldnt be surprised if they priming him to be the face of company for next 5-10 year then a writer or something high hunter sees himself in him n a HST look at Cody n Seth n can see WWE is in good hands really good
It's going to be one of most viewed videos on your channel 👏
Cody selling the broken arm during the interview. Mad respect
Awesome interview.
Cody is giving a master class of how to be a modern babyface. Other than Cena, I feel it’s been a long time since we have had a true, to the core, babyface. I think these days with as much transparency as there is, to really sell that role you have to be it. You genuinely have to earn respect for who you are and how you got there. Not just winning key matches and titles, being pushed to the moon. But truly be it. Cody is what he presents. Well spoken, dedicated, hard working, and extremely respectful of this business. He loves it, and you can’t help but feel that passion and wanna see the guy succeed.
I think that's a big reason why a lot of other faces have had such a hard time getting over. To be a face, now, there has to be a level of authenticity that's a bit unprecedented.
Cody is the Last Superstar
Roman Reigns?
@anthonynorman7545 him too but their aren't many
Roman and not even close.
Bro you need to change you're thumbnails , i think if you do them like implushive that will help you gain views..etc , Awsome Interview !
Very nice 💞 Cody Rhodes 💞 I love you ❤❤❤🎉
I hope Cody talks about the Angry Dad walk he has been doing 😂😂😂
Make no bones about it. Cena and then Roman's overpush afterwards killed baby faces for a long time.
They still made successful careers out of it so keep crying here crybaby
lmao, Cena was over with the crowd even in his last days with WWE.
Cody ernd his right to be where he today.
Great interview. Looked good, and sounded good.
I would love to see Sam and CVV interview each other
I'm hoping Cody will main event WM40
HHH & Vince messed up. He shoulda been champ
I f**k with cody he truly respects the buisness and represents it well
Cody shouldve been the winner between cody vs roman. Theres no reason that he didn't deserve that win and to be the one to strip roman. I'll never understand WWE creative.
Drew McIntyre - proof that jobbers that get fired can become main even champions after returning to WWE
Cody - proof that you can leave WWE to become bigger and return a top star
Oh Im so glad he confirmed the whole meta heel turn in aew, I used to say that's what he was doing but no one agreed xD straight from the American horses mouth
Arn Would’ve Got The Glock & Took Paul, Solo & The Usos All Out Respectfully 😭😭😭
Make Cody the Champ

Ive never heard someone say "Yeah, i like to troll people lol" with so many, well chosen words.
Cody is just something else. I love this guy.
Anyone who's been lifting weights for a while has had to flip a bar off of their chest at some point. It's weird, because it's so avoidable, but it even happens to experienced lifters.
Cody you take a lots from your Dadd plus you dress up more you change suit Twice and the wrestlyn very Elegant keep up the good stay you dont Fallow dont change Stay True to yourself ❤
Cody Rhodes coming out July end 31
How did the Jackson’s get into the documentary but Dustin wasn’t in it other than a brief shot of Goldust?
Sam, you gotta work on the audio or prepare your guests in a way they know to use a mic
I think he has it covered after this interview.
Just imagine Solo Sikoa pulling up to interfere and Arn Anderson just walks up and points a Glock to the back of his head 😂
Who was the Matt Cardonas tag parent he didn’t like
I think people will believe but people will not have the same investment. Wrestling is striking while the iron is hot . So it's not Cody's fault wwe failed in the easiest situation to make a huge star
Fucking Cody is funny 😂
Cody is so right about ppl forgetting what they accomplished. Aew isn't perfect, but there was a time when the idea of having another prime time wrestling show on a major cable network was a fever dream.
If this is really his take on his final months of his AEW run, then he willingly turned himself into the first 5 years of Roman Reigns everyone hated, which is baffling to me.
Who is he referring to that he didn’t like before Curt Hawkins?
What is this backdrop? Did no one think to tidy the place up a little bit
trust me, this was us tidying it up haha
A damn earthquake whaaaaattt... thats a first! (5:55)
I would love to have a wrestler on my channel
Funny to think that those babyfaces came back to live solely because of the ultimate alpha male heel Roman Reigns creating them, the same guy who literally endangered that same specie years prior.
5:17 Earthquake?
That Cody fan killed me 😂
I know WWE is apparently killing it, but I’ll never not think they blew it at that wrestlemania. It was so deflating. WM is supposed to be the superbowl, not an ‘opportunity’ to blow Roman and his cousins for another year
The reason why baby faces are so cheered now is because the biggest most dominant champion is a heel. People like to cheer for the underdog. When Cena dominates for 10 years straight and he's a face, people want the underdog heels to finally win
The description of the pec injury nearly made me puke
Cody is such a natural heel. He comes off like it in this interview. I can almost taste it. He would be such a great heel at this point!
He is good both ways, one of the greatest
Why is Cody being interviewed by Jon Moxley?…
i think the transparency in wrestling is the best thing to happen to it. instead of trying to pretend wrestling is real even tho everyone knows it isn’t, it’s way better to present as it really is, the psychology, the art, the people behind the character, all of it. that’s why the punk thing in 2011 was so big because it was the only thing that seemed real in years. unless it’s like an mjf who does interviews in character but also mixes in reality, it’s way better to have the actual person being interviewed about their character and art and everything that goes into it behind the scenes and the separation/similarities between the person and character. idk if any of that made sense.
completely agree
Cool cody❤
Iwill always belive you You have to beat Roman
Not having a good work ethic is treated as if it's some type of virtue these days that's why everyone has nothing and complain
Always knew there was something off about Ryder 😂
