    Maven’s comeback is the most heartwarming wrestling story about the year

    • @ML-kx9gz
      @ML-kx9gz 11 месяцев назад +3

      I came up watching wrestling before the attitude era but really locked in during that attitude era, going to shows, watching everything and recording it, sharing tapes with friends etc. But I think when Maven was breaking in I was just on my way out. So I don't really have an opinion of him from a wrestling perspective, but I got into podcasts and what not when I saw the iron claw. Very fascinating stuff to say the least, it's fun to go back and hear the ins from someone in the mix while I was watching not realizing how much was going completely over my head. When Maven broke down the math on his best paid year in WWE my head almost exploded. I literally could not believe it. $430k but 50% taken by the taxman which drops you to $215k, then you find out that the WWE doesn't pay for any travel expense. I figured from 2001-2005 a run for a gig is costing you approx $200 total for the flight, the hotel, the car and the gas you have to still put in that same car (oops we forgot about water, food etc too lol) and multiply that by the amount of days you do work (assuming approx 200 probably more) that means $200 a day multipled by 200 days, that's $40,000 of course you can write it off on taxes but it still drops your down from 430k to 215k after tax minus another 40k for expense to $175k total. And that's just because he got LUCKY and wasn't INJURED. If he WAS injured his pay scale would drop down significantly lower + he would have to also at the same time PAY his insurance and hospital bills. When you break it all down it seems like slave labor, plus you get to beat your body up, abuse drugs and alcohol just so you can go to sleep! WEEEE

      I think tbf Maven is playing that carefully and does not want to burn bridges. On a previous podcast before he got famous again he mentioned somebody (I think Sgt Slaughter?) told him it was HHH who was speaking out against him at creative meetings. To his credit Maven wasnt bitter about it like so many other ex-WWE wrestlers.

    • @metashadow3924
      @metashadow3924 Год назад +1

      @@Simonskilamb That may be the case, but I don't see what speaking out against Sgt. Slaughter has to do with wrestling ability. If Maven were just trying to be careful, he wouldn't have gone into a whole story about how HHH is so good at pacing that he was the one guy he wouldn't blow up while wrestling and how he could call the whole match, etc. He'd just say he was a great wrestler and move on.

    I don't watch wrestling anymore but I came up just before the attitude era and was 100% locked in and going to shows during the attitude era, so Maven is slightly after my time. But I think I do remember him when he was first coming around as a jobber before he became a mid card guy. Since The Iron Claw came out I got back into wrestling (not watching it) but podcasts and ran into Maven. I really have no impression of him from his wrestling days but he spits the truth about the game, the business and he seems genuine. After hearing some of his pods specifically about wrestlers pay my head almost exploded. I seriously thought that the top guys were making somewhere between 1-5m but a lot of the money coming from sales (this may or may not be accurate, just what I thought) and mid cards more in the $500k-$800k range plus sales and jobbers like $250k-$350k plus sales. But then I came across Maven who broke the math down. These guys have to pay for their own health insurance, even though they are essentially FIGHTING each other 200+ days a year, they also have to pay for all travel expenses, car, flight and hotel plus all the incidentals that coincide with that. Maven stated his best year he went uninjured and made $430,000 but 50% was immediately taken by tax that's $215k. I figured in my head at the time for car rental, gas, food, hotel stay and flight even if you are being cheap as possible you're still spending probably around $200/day. $200 a day multiplied by 200 dates = $40,000. So now you're $430k turns to $215k and then after your expenses turns into $175k and that's before you have paid for really ANYTHING outside of coming and going to your job. This is also before all the injuries they do not pay insurance for as well. It's truly eye opening to see how SHREWD of a businessman Vince was, the man has made billions and billions of dollars. His family his wife, his children and their children and their childrens children will all be fine and that's great! but at the same time you have these guys or I should say slaves working for you probably popping pills and pounding booze at the same time to either come up, come down or even go to sleep much less kill the pain. Very ruthless to say the least, I mean ruthless is like the understatement of the century on this one.

      lol and I just kind of smiled to myself, because sam and I respect sam but he's probably making like a shade under a million/year with all of his ventures. Again I'm not hating but when you compare what sam does vs what every single wrestler in the entire world goes through if they just get LUCKY enough to make that $430k is just laughable to say the least. Kind of have a whole new respect for the guys today and the guys I grew up watching. Astonishing stuff.

    The audio mixing (or i assume the better condenser mic) definitely is better here than on Marvens own channel....his voice is smoother... especially in the higher frequency.

    My theory about negative comments is this: If you have a channel where you are about drama or talk too much about controversial stuff, or you wash in some way dirty laundry, it also gets you an audience that might show little respect or wants to trigger the the host with their comments. We now that drama or anyithing that's controversal attracts an audience, so you get more views and clicks just by catering such content, but the downside is that you also a attract quite a number of trolls and low lives with that.
    And as a lot of people did and still do youtube channels with drama and contriversial content, it's normal that Maven's right hand/Maven's "Hotdog" is used to more negativity in the comment section.
    But as the fact speaks that it's quite friendly in Maven's comments section tells me that he is doing a lot things right, just be default.

    Is it possible that in the future we may get to see a Maven vs Josh Matthews match? Since both are from the Tough Enough era and Josh hasn't technically retired yet and Maven can clearly still go. Odds on seeing it?

    The wrestling business is a unforgiving business the injuries always on the road the small percentage of people that actually make it to the big leagues then if u do make it staying there is not guaranteed guys like matt riddie who had fans and was well liked was released like it was nothing and so many great performers have been released. I cant imagine being in that business the lows are so low the highs are so high.

    Arguably only one of seven people on tough enough who actually had an at least decent WWE career.
