Thought i was the only one lol i was told to use the 2.79 version as my windows 10 laptop driver has been discontinued on the intel website...not enabling me to update it.
Im using blender 2.79 even for today, the 2.8+ interface looks like its made for tablets and laptops, its categories, toolbar and layouts are so big and needs so much free interface space that most of things that you could see on the default layout of the blender 2.7 just dissapeared. Also, blender 2.79 have more integrations with my favourite render PovRay than 2.8+
I also use blender version 2.79, besides it being faster using my CPU to render (I still don't have a decent GPU) I can still use the internal renderer that was removed in version 2.80 onwards, I tried using the latest versions, But the change they made in version 2.79 to 2.80 was very drastic and I didn't adapt, I was totally lost and went back to 2.79, I'm still going to continue with Blender 2.79 for a long time.
That's awesome! My favorite part about the updates is the interface, but if you can live with the older ones, they can totally work. I'm sure all the developers of 2.79 are proud of you!
bro u really need to try 3.1 ur missing out on a lot. I've been using since 2.79 too but the new updates are so much better and blender itself is soooo much faster
@@celestia277 dude read my coment well im not talking about develops and improvmentas ... im tlking about interface and keeping it same as the older versions ... .. they must had to upgrade 2.79 with that interface. changing UI is harakiri... look at 3ds max ... lock at maya ... lock at photoshop since 4.5vr :))))) they just improved software and interface is almost sme as older versions with few changes becuse of the develops and improves ..
I stick to 2.79 only bcs things I'm really using are working flawlessly in 2.79, but everytime I try to do same work in 2.8+ i'm feeling like I'm braindead
it's all about how fast and accurate the software can be and i think staying on 2.7 is a waste of potential and an insult to the great minds who are making free updates

For those who still have the installer, install 2.79b, go into program files and run compatibility in windows 11. Let it fix the issue so you can stop the annoying powershell being stuck open. as far as the team that has made this "new Coke version" of Blender, they really needed to give us the choice between the new layout and the one we all prefer without making it also an overloaded POS. All versions of NEW blender after 2.79 even on my fast system is a hell of a lot slower and frankly unusuable. If I wanted to use MAYA I would have been using MAYA.
well to be honest i dont rly like blender 3.0+ and to be more clear 2.8+ Or as a colleague is saying now "3DS Max for the poor People" 😂 Thats pretty much like it is now and thats why im sticking with 2.79b. Im working for Gamecompanies and using tools like blender 2.79b, 3D Coat, Houdini and xNormal so in general im using the complete Pipeline from 2018 and its still very powerful. But why im using this and not going with the new standart ? Because im alot faster with the old blender version thats it. And i mean ALOT FASTER ! So i can make alot more money. Even for sculpting im using blender and not ZBrush because the Autoretopo tool in 3D Coat is pretty helpful and no sculp ive ever created needed more Details than blender can handle. The old blender was designed to be fast and efficent, now it feels exactly like using 3DS Max just with another UI 🤷♂ And no even with using Shortcuts only in 2.8+ its not nearly as fast to work with as it is in 2.79 ive tried that many times in different Companies because my colleagues wanted to proof me that im talking nonsense and every challenge we did (speedmodeling from an image) i was much faster. Last one we did i was 4 mins faster than our Lead Designer with a better looking result (voted by colleagues without knowing who made which Asset) .... And yeah the new features might be cool and do their stuff well but for me they are just gimmicks nothing else ive never needed them and i wont need them in the future and for procedural stuff im using Houdini because im very familiar with it as VFX Artist too 😂 But dont get me wrong here i dont wanna rant 2.8+ because "i dont like the UI" thats not my point. My point is that since they redesigned it its just not that efficent anymore and becoming rly slow to work with compared to the older versions and thats not what blender originaly stands for.
There is a separate software that is mentioned on Ezra Thess Mendoza's book from APRESS - I've just forgotten it's name but it shares the same UI as Blender 2.8 ff but as a game engine.
sorry about my english im persian/ they sacifice the Users for UI and of course blender lose its popularity with 2.8 ... the main reason is UI changing in 100% ... you know what that mean ??? thousands and thousands of earlier version's tutorials are useless ... intermediate lerners and pro users are facing to the very new software .... everything changed... i was in the middle of sucsess in 3d by belender 2.79 but suddenly everything gose bad ... they must had to improve the changes to the 2.79 whith the same UI... 2.8 is not blender in my opinion ... my very exact exaple of this can be the photoshop ... since 4.5 (..............) to adobe cc UI is still like as it was as the begining and pro like me and intros can undrestand the most important part of software learning, that is to know which is where and it will be there for ever ... even 10 version or 20 version later ... imagine photoshop someday chnge its UI completely to the new one ... what will be happend to the photoshop ?? even if you be the pro and master at this....
You make some great points. Software and interfaces are always changing and it's tough to keep up with them. That what's great about Blender. If you don't want to update, you don't have to. And by the way your english is pretty solid. You should see some comments I get from people in the US.

2.79 is so much better. I can't stand the new ui. They removed all the good stuff for the sake of standardization and to make it easier for new people

3.0 is best but 2.79 its stable but its very hard its not friendly
You can download the LTS of newer versions if stability is a big concern for you. Blender 2.93 for example is on LTS version 9 right now

How do you get rid of the 3d cursor 279b left mouse click?
User preferences > Input > (search for 3D cursor and it should come up) then remove the default left click option.

Is there away to apply the 2.79 interface to a newer Blender build? I find the interface confusing on the newer builds.
I believe there's a version called 2.79c that has eevee. Not sure though.
