While i think Po3 being a girl is definitely cool, the reason for that file having the word female in it is due to the fact that the exact same voice was used in the Hex as the voice of Rebecha. In fact, the stunted wolf's voice is also originally used in The Hex (i forgot for which character though, pretty sure just some random npcs + Sado, since she she likes immitation)

P03's stoat talking soundbyte is actually used in The Hex as well! It's used to voice a female character, Rebecha (who repairs the bridges in Inscryption), the same way Reginald's voice byte is used for the Stunted Wolf. I think this is just a case of re-used assets on Daniel's part, but I still like to believe that G0lly is P03's 'original' personality who took on a more feminine disposition/presentation.

I generally view P03 as non-gendered robot, like sometimes robots are gendered a bit or coded towards a gender but P03 felt like one of those times where it was just 'robot'.
My theory is that golly was the original P03, but when the old_data corrupted the disk, it corrupted P03 making him the P03 we have today. G0lly as the original P03 is an interesting thought. Would explain the hatred for the character, considering how P03 is more about logic and reason while G0lly seems a lot more ‘feelings-oriented’ and whimsical. The thought of the OLD_DATA corrupting and warping the dominant personality is an interesting concept, and I could kinda see that.
I am personally under the belief that p03 uses masculine “he/him” pronouns, and all of the bots in his factory respect him, thus they use his correct pronouns. The other scrybes, however, do not respect p03, so they (probably unintentionally) use “it” to dehumanize him, because after all, he isnt really human, and it would make sense for only other robots to respect him.

If I had to make a guess, I'd say they probably intended P03 to be a gender neutral character because gender doesnt really matter when you're a robot. But still 2/4 uberbot personalities are definitely female, so who knows?

I think he's a robot with a male persona and that that's just the name of the sound effect. Poe also seems like a male name and the dialog only ever suggest he is male *however* He can take on both roles considering his boss levels, one of them "Golly" is most certainly intended to be female.

About your question in the comment. p03 is a male in Russian translation. But, there name isn't like p03 but Поз(Poz) and this word is masculine. And in act 1 he is just referred as stoat which is masculine as well in Russian.
Im pretty sure we're only talking about english version simply because it's originally made with this language.the fact that you can read the same name differenntly is probably due to...your main language. That doesn't really proves anything because it highly likely that this is just because your Z is english 3 (or at least a really similar character) + the fact that translating names is a bad idea. Originally it's Poe, and sense we're talking about it's _canon_ gender means that other ways of reading the name are, quite possibly, just translations or coincidences (just what you described about "з"and "3").
i always read P03 not as "Pee oh three" but as "poe", because a lot of the cards contained in his act and act 2 use L33t speak, so i just assumed the zero and three where letter numbers
nah, i don't think so. it's just that there is so much in the game keeping p03 genderless, and then a single line by the smelter goes against it all. honestly, basing anything of filenames is a bit iffy, but the dialogue in the game is definitely canon, so that's that :)

Isn't Golly the first P03 version? I mean, when he talks about her he resents her innocence, and not only that, on his name there is a number "3". This could mean that "P.03" is actually the third version of the bot Personality, Golly being "P.01". As the OLD_DATA gave him conscience, he started to develop other Personality matrixs, Golly being the first iteration and the most naive version of him. This does mean that he doesn't have a gender per say, as it would be based on his Personality matrix, but it also means that there could be a P.02. A discarded Personality we don't even see in game... At least, i believe so. This is just a theory, but i like it a lot.
Let's expand on this, if Golly is P.01 and Stoat is P.03, then I'd hazard a guess that the other uberbots are significant too. The only other one with actual emotion to me is The Archivist, maybe that's P.02? The Cameraman is just the Camera bot given it's less than impressive emotional range. Which leaves the Painter; I personally believe that if it weren't for the whole transcendence thing, he would be P.04 considering he is being made in the fight. Or maybe all three of the other bots are P0.2 who knows?

To me, the uberbots seemed more like P.03's knock off version of the scribes, mocking them and using their facades as a way to control Luke's computer, as he didn't have the time to actually scan the scribes to use them in his game. If they are all new Personalities, i feel like they could be interpreted as P.04.1, P.04.2 and P.04.3, but even so, they aren't major Personalities matrixs, as P.03 himself isn't really changing. There could be multiple reasons as to why this happens. I'm going to list a bunch because why not. 1. Original Development vs Finished Product: games change over the course of their development, Inscryption especially so, it has had an enormous amount of change including characters such as the Main protagonist (I believe originally they were a father rather than various survivors) to various major characters. 2. P03 is a robot, who's sex/gender is meant to be ambiguous or unimportant. The mixing of gender could enforce the lack of choice or care towards such a thing. 3. The reference to "his" in the game could just be a natural reference to P03, typically "Him, his," and by extension "man," are originally from German, which is a male pronoun, but more Neutral, even in modern contexts we use a lot of male pronouns for neutral subjects, such as "dude, man, bro," can all be designated to either gender.
Personally I think it would make the most sense that p03 is genderfluid, considering that the robots refer to him as he/him, while the scribes refer to him as it/its (ofc this could also just be the other scribes not gendering him sinces he's a robot) Plus with Golly than that could also mean he could be referred to as she/her as well 🤔 It could also be that P03 simply does not care for gender (which makes sense since he's a robot) and he just doesn't care about what people refer to him as.
He seems to want to improve things as much as possible and you could assume after improving a living being beyond a certain point gender would not be a thing since both males and females would be "perfected"

So for p03 to atleast have pronouns wouldn't be too out of the ordinary, plus even though he might be a robot and have no gender, he will/can still have pronouns since someones pronouns don't always match their gender, and are simply a way for others to address them 🤷 So even though he has no gender, he would still have pronouns beacuse everyone/everything has pronouns, even objects that have no gender whatsoever or aren't even living creatures. That's why I mainly suggested genderfluid since it seems that no one really seems to know what pronouns p03 mainly uses or simply p03 doesn't care enough for pronouns or what people refer to him as beacuse it isn't important to him as robot. And so he can be referred to as whatever you want to refer to him as :)
It's shown that G0lly, P03's literal representation of himself, IS female so, we (me and a bunch of other people) put two and two together and :0 robot trans?! also, he seems to hate her a lot. his "least favorite boss" in his words. this would mean P03 hates his past self. ALSO ALSO, only people who dislike P03 use "it" instead of an actual pronoun. they purposely dehumanize him because "he's just a computer, and computers don't feel" and I know there's people who DO go by it/it's, but to me it feels dehumanizing.
P03 could stand for "Personality 03"! Golly is the "P.01", and as she gained conscience because of the OLD_DATA, she developed other Personality matrixs. This also explains why she is so oblivious to what the internet is capable of, as she was made in the early days of the web, and this also explains why P.03 despises her so much.
I did also see some people interpreting golly as being someone who Po3 wants to be, since Po3 feels weird about golly but did literally put her as a representation of itself willingly, along with feeling that it has to hide Golly and Goobert commenting after the fight about how po3 shouldn't shun her away, which could imply that Po3 is transfeminine! Again, just an interpretation, but still a neat one
Something else to take into consideration is the boss that is supposed to represent P03 in act 3 is more effiminate, although P03 seems pretty disdainful towards that side of itself. Slime Mage even comments on that side of P03 seems pretty nice and its too bad that P03 burries it deep in it's coding.
I think it is a genderless character and people can gender them however they feel most comfortable with doing (like how some people use gendered pronouns with inanimate objects and it's not consistent all the time, you just go with the flow)
I'd like to point out that the Russian translation actually changes a lot of character genders. For example: the "challenger" 's gender is female, same for the melter and inspector. Wierd.
the challenger's gender is randomized with runs the melter and inspector are already universally referred as female in all of the languages that has a way of knowing this information
I do believe the file name means nothing as it's recycled from a female character. And I think the only reason Magnificus refers to P03 as "it" is to humiliate him, to say he's just a dumb object and not a person. Everything fits that way. Everything. Everything.
Daniel Mullins "Hex" game uses similar or even the same voices as Inscryption. Even the trailer has the stunted wolf narrating it (ruclips.net/video/pGJ5eXMTZLQ/видео.html). Stoat's voice must be used by a female so that's probably why.
If each boss is representing the scribes, then that would be a bit of evidence. Golly is in the place of Po3, maybe showing that Po3 is a girl, and then there's the line saying that golly is buried within Po3, maybe showing that Po3 used to be golly but has hidden her away in it's code

I think that just because a VC is a gender does not mean that the person there voice acting is going to be the same. It happens all the time in media. PO3 is a amazing character and I hope we get to see more from this game soon.
Why struggle to make it human ? PO3 isn't male or female, it's a robot. Thus, giving it a gender is meaningless, since he/she/they/it can choose any and change anytime, as an AI of this level might even be able to reprogram its personality at will. So no worries here ladsies 😄

Being someone who played inscryption in a language where there aren't neutral pronouns, I can confirm P03 uses male pronouns, but I still prefer considering them as non-binary since they're well- a robot
Of course, P03 is a robot, and would be genderless and be referred to using it/they pronouns, but people are used to people having genders, so they might call something a him/her depending on if it appears masculine or feminine.
I believe all other characters call P03 it because he is a robot so Melter using he/him shows that people are just racist towards robots in Inscryption
I've seen theories that G0lly is P03's original, naive personality before discovering the internet; if we move forward with that interpretatiom, then G0lly being "she" (if I'm remembering right) and P03 being referred to as nothing but "it"- that reads to me as G0lly being "she" and later transitioning to "it". Side note, you could write this like G0lly/she ("golly gee!") and P03/it ("poet"), which i find amusing. :) One might also conclude that G0lly, having discovered the cesspits of internet gender discourse, decided to recuse herself from the conversation by discarding pronouns entirely.
Bruh people in the comments are going too far in my opinion. The third act, as well as the first, is a tabletop game, so all the characters are just NPCs in P03's game. Golly doesn't have to represent P03, it's just a char made for his DnD, to put it simply. The voice file was recorded for Hex and could just be used for this game because it fits. No necessary undercover. I really liked a comment stating that he's personality is masculine, but scrybes think he's just a machine and therefore use "it" to dehumanize him. Mayhaps P03 is genderfluid? There's of course the use of He/Him, as well as this file being called "female", but there's also uses of gender neutral pronouns so perhaps genderfluidity or other alternative gender identities could be an option. This also makes a bit of sense in the aspect of P03 being robotic, since the concept of gender as a whole might seem rather strange or interesting to a nonbiological entity.
PO3 could be read as a closeted trans woman if you wanted to. When talking about Golly, I think someone says “it’s a shame PO3 buries her so deep” or something like that. I have no sources but just vaguely remember that line. Being a robot the ambiguity is sorta natural though I suppose.
I think P03 is trans of some sort? Golly is implied to have been P03 at his inception I think. (Even inhabiting his space on the map). Maybe at some point between the start and when we meet him he identified as Golly and used she/her pronouns. He is a robot, so gender shouldn’t be a big deal for him.

In lore the game developers of inscryption reused assets for their games, its not meant to be female as in p03 is female nor is golly ever presented as a female but is instead supposed to represent the innocence of a child. It's not usually relevant to take ripped assets at face value like this when it comes to theorycrafting, and ultimately it doesn't explain anything or give us insight on anything about p03. And on the topic of the use of His by melter, its common in languages to have male be the typical standard pronoun instead of it, its also considered rude to refer to someone as it instead of he usually as it is commonly used to refer to objects or ideas, not specifically people. So it is safe to say that the assumption of p03 as a he makes more sense but also doesn't necessarily mean p03 is male due to the fact that p03 is a computer with no defined characteristics or personality to identify with either male or female.
The think is that Golly (which represents the Uber bot replacement for P03) is addressed by him as HER. Even Golly sounds a bit like "girlish" too. Perhaps in the prototype P03 was to be a "girl-bot" or something along those lines but was changed to a male afterwards by some reason (like avoiding future critiques). Or perhaps like a normal robot it should be non-binary.
The biggest piece of evidence for this is the act three uberbot Golly. Golly is the stand in for p03 and is coded female and the goo mage refers to her with she\her pronouns. In the dialog that goo mage says he wishes that p03 would let golly out more, and in p03's dialog before the Golly fight he mentions that playing this boss is uncomfortable for him. What this says to me is that Golly's naivety, joy and gender are part of himself that he represses. This reads as a fairly common trans narrative, but at there very least there is something going on with p03's expression and gender. Perhaps that is why p03 prefers to focus on mechanics rather than creative expressions.

I'm probably not the first person to say this but simply put the P03 talking sound file is left over from Daniel Mullins' previous game, The Hex, which used the same sound for the female characters in some parts of the game.

I am personally under the belief that p03 uses masculine “he/him” pronouns, and all of the bots in his factory respect him, thus they use his correct pronouns. The other scrybes, however, do not respect p03, so they (probably unintentionally) use “it” to dehumanize him, because after all, he isnt really human, and it would make sense for only other robots to respect him.

About your question in the comment. p03 is a male in Russian translation. But, there name isn't like p03 but Поз(Poz) and this word is masculine. And in act 1 he is just referred as stoat which is masculine as well in Russian.
Im pretty sure we're only talking about english version simply because it's originally made with this language.the fact that you can read the same name differenntly is probably due to...your main language. That doesn't really proves anything because it highly likely that this is just because your Z is english 3 (or at least a really similar character) + the fact that translating names is a bad idea.
Originally it's Poe, and sense we're talking about it's _canon_ gender means that other ways of reading the name are, quite possibly, just translations or coincidences (just what you described about "з"and "3").

Isn't Golly the first P03 version? I mean, when he talks about her he resents her innocence, and not only that, on his name there is a number "3". This could mean that "P.03" is actually the third version of the bot Personality, Golly being "P.01". As the OLD_DATA gave him conscience, he started to develop other Personality matrixs, Golly being the first iteration and the most naive version of him. This does mean that he doesn't have a gender per say, as it would be based on his Personality matrix, but it also means that there could be a P.02. A discarded Personality we don't even see in game... At least, i believe so. This is just a theory, but i like it a lot.
Let's expand on this, if Golly is P.01 and Stoat is P.03, then I'd hazard a guess that the other uberbots are significant too. The only other one with actual emotion to me is The Archivist, maybe that's P.02? The Cameraman is just the Camera bot given it's less than impressive emotional range. Which leaves the Painter; I personally believe that if it weren't for the whole transcendence thing, he would be P.04 considering he is being made in the fight. Or maybe all three of the other bots are P0.2 who knows?

To me, the uberbots seemed more like P.03's knock off version of the scribes, mocking them and using their facades as a way to control Luke's computer, as he didn't have the time to actually scan the scribes to use them in his game. There could be multiple reasons as to why this happens. I'm going to list a bunch because why not.
1. Original Development vs Finished Product: games change over the course of their development, Inscryption especially so, it has had an enormous amount of change including characters such as the Main protagonist (I believe originally they were a father rather than various survivors) to various major characters.
2. P03 is a robot, who's sex/gender is meant to be ambiguous or unimportant. The mixing of gender could enforce the lack of choice or care towards such a thing.
3. The reference to "his" in the game could just be a natural reference to P03, typically "Him, his," and by extension "man," are originally from German, which is a male pronoun, but more Neutral, even in modern contexts we use a lot of male pronouns for neutral subjects, such as "dude, man, bro," can all be designated to either gender.
I think PO3's gender is neutral but sometimes a bit fluid, depending of their behavior/personality upload.
Personally I think it would make the most sense that p03 is genderfluid, considering that the robots refer to him as he/him, while the scribes refer to him as it/its (ofc this could also just be the other scribes not gendering him sinces he's a robot) Plus with Golly than that could also mean he could be referred to as she/her as well 🤔
It could also be that P03 simply does not care for gender (which makes sense since he's a robot) and he just doesn't care about what people refer to him as.
He seems to want to improve things as much as possible and you could assume after improving a living being beyond a certain point gender would not be a thing since both males and females would be "perfected"

So for p03 to atleast have pronouns wouldn't be too out of the ordinary, plus even though he might be a robot and have no gender, he will/can still have pronouns since someones pronouns don't always match their gender, and are simply a way for others to address them 🤷 So even though he has no gender, he would still have pronouns beacuse everyone/everything has pronouns, even objects that have no gender whatsoever or aren't even living creatures.
That's why I mainly suggested genderfluid since it seems that no one really seems to know what pronouns p03 mainly uses or simply p03 doesn't care enough for pronouns or what people refer to him as beacuse it isn't important to him as robot. I did also see some people interpreting golly as being someone who Po3 wants to be, since Po3 feels weird about golly but did literally put her as a representation of itself willingly, along with feeling that it has to hide Golly and Goobert commenting after the fight about how po3 shouldn't shun her away, which could imply that Po3 is transfeminine!
Again, just an interpretation, but still a neat one
Something else to take into consideration is the boss that is supposed to represent P03 in act 3 is more effiminate, although P03 seems pretty disdainful towards that side of itself. Slime Mage even comments on that side of P03 seems pretty nice and its too bad that P03 burries it deep in it's coding.

I think it is a genderless character and people can gender them however they feel most comfortable with doing (like how some people use gendered pronouns with inanimate objects and it's not consistent all the time, you just go with the flow)
I'd like to point out that the Russian translation actually changes a lot of character genders. For example: the "challenger" 's gender is female, same for the melter and inspector. Wierd.

Daniel Mullins "Hex" game uses similar or even the same voices as Inscryption. Even the trailer has the stunted wolf narrating it (ruclips.net/video/pGJ5eXMTZLQ/видео.html). Stoat's voice must be used by a female so that's probably why.
If each boss is representing the scribes, then that would be a bit of evidence. Golly is in the place of Po3, maybe showing that Po3 is a girl, and then there's the line saying that golly is buried within Po3, maybe showing that Po3 used to be golly but has hidden her away in it's code

I've seen theories that G0lly is P03's original, naive personality before discovering the internet; if we move forward with that interpretatiom, then G0lly being "she" (if I'm remembering right) and P03 being referred to as nothing but "it"- that reads to me as G0lly being "she" and later transitioning to "it". Side note, you could write this like G0lly/she ("golly gee!") and P03/it ("poet"), which i find amusing. :)

In lore the game developers of inscryption reused assets for their games, its not meant to be female as in p03 is female nor is golly ever presented as a female but is instead supposed to represent the innocence of a child. It's not usually relevant to take ripped assets at face value like this when it comes to theorycrafting, and ultimately it doesn't explain anything or give us insight on anything about p03. And on the topic of the use of His by melter, its common in languages to have male be the typical standard pronoun instead of it, its also considered rude to refer to someone as it instead of he usually as it is commonly used to refer to objects or ideas, not specifically people. So it is safe to say that the assumption of p03 as a he makes more sense but also doesn't necessarily mean p03 is male due to the fact that p03 is a computer with no defined characteristics or personality to identify with either male or female.

The think is that Golly (which represents the Uber bot replacement for P03) is addressed by him as HER. Even Golly sounds a bit like "girlish" too. Perhaps in the prototype P03 was to be a "girl-bot" or something along those lines but was changed to a male afterwards by some reason (like avoiding future critiques). Or perhaps like a normal robot it should be non-binary.
I'm gonna take the dredger's example and keep using he/him, I don't really have a reason to change.

The biggest piece of evidence for this is the act three uberbot Golly. Golly is the stand in for p03 and is coded female and the goo mage refers to her with she\her pronouns. In the dialog that goo mage says he wishes that p03 would let golly out more, and in p03's dialog before the Golly fight he mentions that playing this boss is uncomfortable for him. What this says to me is that Golly's naivety, joy and gender are part of himself that he represses. This reads as a fairly common trans narrative, but at there very least there is something going on with p03's expression and gender. Perhaps that is why p03 prefers to focus on mechanics rather than creative expressions.

I'm probably not the first person to say this but simply put the P03 talking sound file is left over from Daniel Mullins' previous game, The Hex, which used the same sound for the female characters in some parts of the game.
There’s a lot of evidence that actually shows that Po3 is trans! One of the bits of evidence is how in Po3's section of the game, they represent in bosses all of the other characters like leshi, Po3's is a girl. there’s a lot more evidence that he's trans though and that's just part of it! :)
