Yeah, well I had a Honda 50 and my best friend down the road had the Yamaha YZ 80...I can't begin to admit how jealous I was and the nights I dreamed of owning one....I could never keep up with him or clear the jumps as he did in our backyards.

My first bike was a new 84 Suzuki RM 80, the classic yellow and blue. Such a great time to be a kid. This Yamaha looks like it's been kept behind glass its whole life. One word, WOW! I can't get over the bikes that you guys find. Its sounds just like my RM did. Just hearing it gets my blood going and brings a smile to my face. So long ago, but yet fresh in my mind.

I had just turned 13 and got up every morning before school just to ride this bike. We lived on a dirt road in Cabarrus County NC. And it was 32 below in January and I didn't care. Thanks for the memories!! This was my second bike that my dad bought me in 1992 when I was 10 yrs old. Huge step up from my first bike, a 1977 Yamaha Enduro 100. In hindsight, I'm glad the tire was almost bald when I first rode it. Had it been able the put its power to the ground, I most likely would have hurt myself in the beginning. The increase in power and overall performance was light years ahead of my first bike.

I bought it from a boy who raced expert, and they clocked him at 80 mph riding a wheelie across the finish line, it was bored out twice! I even raced a RM 125 and beat it! I was about 13 years old when I had that bike in 1983. Also, a couple years back I was looking on eBay, and I swear to God there was a gem 1982 YZ80 for I believe was either $900 or $1,200, I can't really remember, but it was in Immaculate condition, I would have bought it if I had the money, I was devastated, because I would have loved to have that bike again, it would have brought back so many good memories from riding that bike! 😢 Oh, I forgot to say that the one I seen on eBay was spotless just like this one!

@Ken, if l were you then l wouldn't want to let my son clear the Sky jump with an 80cc, but Ken Jr. is definitely capable of clearing the Sky jump with a 125cc for sure..
Ken Jr, awesome race at Unadilla last weekend.. 💯👍

That little YZ as the YZ 80 J with the rad on the handle bars were certainly made to compete with the awesome CR 80 ELSINORE which was still air cooled but was a rocket. I had a YZ 80 J and it hammered, I also had a 1980 CR 80 RA, PLUS A RB. And my man we used to smoke 1987 RM 80'S on those time capsules. But I must say the YZ 80 J and K those little beautys sure did haul ass. God bless.

The pipe and muffler on the old super minis are impossible to find. I know from experience.

So they only had that handlebar radiator 1yr? I just learned something! But those early 80s 80s were a dream to me. I did have my 73 GT 80 that I rode the wheels off of! This would be a great bike to just have in the garage and let the grandkids rip around on!

@@Eric--zs6um oh man we have a GT80 forum here! Did the fork seals blow out on yours? Every whoop or bump/jump had a loud, "clank"! But that bike never failed me! And my Dad bought me the GT mostly because it had Yamalube. I didn't have to worry about mixing oil and gas. I owned mine from 79-84 when we moved to California. Loved that little bike and when we did give it to a family friends son I think I heard he still had it in 94!
