In my opinion, this real car crash test was to show which car has less crumpled zones on their new platform. Cannot be denied, german cars have thick material compared to Japanese cars. Both have their own reason to do such different way.
In this test, the new Corolla may got more damaged than the Jetta, but it doesn't mean Corolla has less safety for passenger than Jetta. After crashed, we can see, dummy passenger in both car actually in good condition and all safety equipments worked as it should. Keep in mind, most of people buy a car based on reliability and safety, also many other aspects to be considered. German cars may more expensive and have thicker material than Japanese cars, but they are not always better, especially in term of reliability, durability and long term usage.
Remember one for sure, Japanese car manufacturers always built their cars to fit the market, circumstances and demographic of a country or region.
You said it better.
The strength and deformability of the car body is only one point of view, another thing is the possibility of opening the doors after an accident, but the most important point of view is the risk of injury to passengers in the car. Why is the impact on the dummies not evaluated in the video??
I think minimum injury for dummies in both cars
Not in the video but was surely taken into consideration by the testers...
The video likely had a scope in script and time, so what was meant to be shown, was.
This was nothing to do with the actual test itself, the test company and the YT channel have nothing to do with each other.
Becuz they re testing which car is stronger
@@user-jv5ni5ho8zdumb question. weak japanese cars are more dangerous and absorb more damage to a person. german engineering best in the world, japan engineering bad.
So what's the point? Someone drove 55 MPH through a redlight into my Toyota, sure my car was crumpled but I walked away with no injury 🤷♂️
A truck T-boned me and I didn’t get any injury. I had my ex in it. We walked out safely. The new Toyotas are safe actually.
Jetta is awesome I never liked 4 cylinder car's but the Jetta with the turbo performs awesome great features and not expensive
The video is pointless! It makes no mention of the condition of the dummys post-crash. How the car looks like after the crash is totally irrelevant, the forces that the dummys endured is what matters.
Highly likely that the VW occupants experienced higher loads than those from the Toyota.
@@legioner9 No, the Toyota would have suffered worse.
@@MrFrog_ No. There was a crash-test made by ADAC which showed the structure difference between a Honda, VW and a Peugeot. The Honda had the best structure, distributing the loads evenly across the front, whilst the VW (predictable) had the worst structure, i.e. too stiff chassis rails and too weak structures around.
Japanese= reliability, German=solid
Swedish=ultra safe
Italian=stylish
American=strong V8 pickup
France=champangne and parfuns
Each country develop one way
u mean france = surrender
german=best engineering best handling
Volvo is CHINESE now
italian=reliability, performance, handling
Question: Where were these 2 cars made? China made cars are different from the rest of the world and their materials/strength varies a lot even under the same brand name/model name. A lot of YT channels from China bashes Toyota cars having thin/weak structures while their western world/Japan made models are much better in build quality. Meaning the same Toyota Corolla made in China would have very different quality compared with US/Canada/Japan built cars. Be careful with these shady comparison which may be misleading to the general public.
It’s shady comparison indeed. Remember VW sells more in China and almost China controls the brand there.
Chinese cars all get 5 star crash test ratings. So what you're saying is untrue. They're made with the same quality materials. The Toyota is just worse than the Jetta.
That still surprises me - Who on Earth who has their sane minds would EVER think that something desgned(copied) in Asia would be better than anything designed and made in Europe?! Honestly!
The most important aspect of the crash which the video hasn't touched on at all is the impact on the test dummies. That is what determines survivability after a crash; I couldn't care less if my car is more deformed than another car after a crash as long as that means the energy of the impact has been absorbed before it reaches me which increases the chances of me surviving the crash. That's why the Corolla has received the highest ratings from the IIHS as shown in the video.
Spot on
Video wanted to tell you about VW. It’s an ad. VW sells more cars in China than Toyota. You even see that the camera didn’t show much of Jetta but more of Corolla while saying negative stuff.
No surprise, is from China which a country has no idea how to build a car.
Video looks Chinese. Cars are designed differently for that market so results likely not applicable in other major markets.
Looks like the survival ability is the same in both vehicles. As a crash at that speed is a write-off I would be more interested in a low speed fender bender type crash or how they hold up in a roll over.
I would prefer that the forces and overloads that the passengers are subjected to at the time of the collision were measured because it may turn out that the car that is more badly wrecked absorbs much more of the energy of the collision than the one with less damage and thus less forces acted on people.
Corollas ability to absorb the impact might help passengers in both cars 🤔
No, it was damaged throughout the structure! Did you not watch the video???
@@MrFrog_ I don't think you understand how it works. The more the car's structure flexes without injuring its passengers, the better it is. While Toyota's design sends energy to car's floor, VW's design doesn't (so it's going somewhere else, probably passengers).
The whole point is, you must use acelerometers' data from dummies to know for sure which one is safer.
The Jetta is one of the largest cars in the class, and the Corolla is one of the smallest. I’d say…this is a simple matter of physics at work.
The speed needs to be increased to 70 mph !real world speeds! so many people go faster than posted limits❤
Well I’m glad I bought my new taos
I'll go buy a Corolla now and take life insurance
it’s gonna outlast your life if you don’t crash it anyways 😂
any car would be crashed if they maxed out on their respective vehicle. no car would really survive from high speed crash. just be careful. Especially german cars who tuned their engine for higher horsepower but amateur drivers
MQB ftw
Who win ?
The VW
This video shows car structure not passenger safety, go to IIHS for the safety of passengers, still Volkswagen wins because it absorbed by the car better, the toyota hits the a pillar leading to passenger safety risks
But price-wise are those two cars the same? Germans cars are more expansive than Japanese brands and so you get what you paying for.
Could it be, that the Jetta is a BEV?
usual car safety rating
german>japan>china
Swedish #1 though

Volvo is no longer a Swedish brand. It belongs to the Geely group, which is of Chinese origin.
In real accident crash there is no difference!
Give me a German car any day.

Jetta doesn't have the same quality in latin America
A plataforma é a mesma.
I prefer Toyota.
I drive in the Netherlands,
There is always traffic. It's almost impossible to crash at this speed. :-)
Toyotas always crush up more. Even if this would have been a Camry VS the Jette, the Jetta would have smashed the Camry in the same way
See 1:51 you don't want the front maxing out to the firewall at a measly 40 mph.
It needs to be calibrated with a speed to stiffness ratio.
Thats what makes it safe. The impact goes to the car and not the occupants. I was in a crash with 5 people in a camry and we all were ok
Volkswagen 🇩🇪
if your care about the car after accidents. personally I care much more about my life

Germani Cars The Best
You are wrong.
at being broken on the side of the road? indeed. name a single german car that can last in a 3rd world country
@@zhila5958 vw is more common than you think in poorer countries
@@help3102 their 80s passat were decent. they have not made anything decent in recent years. their cars don’t even last where i live, not even 5 years
@@zhila5958 mercedes 240 from the 70's is still runing in Morocco, also VW golf 1
German car built for real world and Japanese built for single car simulations
1:51 see how the corolla maxed out to the firewall. You don't want that at merely 40 mph. What you want is calibration so that half of it is left so there's room for higher speed
german car build for real world who needs to drive for certain period of time until they break down. lol
In reality Toyota would have stopped because it has a radar.
Ww jetta has good solidly
You can see the building quality on Jetta as it’s have a panoramic roof while that Corolla doesn’t & it’s still preform bad
Especially with the corolla's front end that went back farther, and the pillar getting a wrinkle. You don't want a front clip maxing out at merely 40 mph, you want it calibrated so it resists and leaves half the length available for higher speed.
Glass is cheap.
Energy absorbtion is better @ Toyota
in the normal Car live without this crash, a corolla lives much longer
No wonder Corolla outlasts its owners
Imagine if the crash test would have been just a little faster. The corolla would have been smashed up to the rear seat
Toyota focuses on longevity, whereas the german cars on solidness. Toyota cars can outlive any cars on the planet no problem
!!!!!!
Only stupid people choose reliability over safety
Except for Volvos

Volvo cars tend to last yes but Toyota is an another level
One of my Volvos has a million miles and has been through accidents.
When we are talking about safety Saab and Volvo only 🤘
Yes, buy a Volvo to have problems with brakes and electronics.
Loved all my Saabs. Definitely impressive for their day but 20+ year old engineering can’t standup to what we have today.
Saabs are old, they can’t compare to new cars.
@@_the_dare_devil_ which new cars you mean bro?
@@_the_dare_devil_ the Saab’s even from the 2000s are very very safe, up there with Volvo. ruclips.net/video/noor55yGWHc/видео.html
German cars are always safer.
Especially when the crumple length isn't maxed out at only 40 mph. It should be calibrated with slightly more resistance and leave more room for higher speed
Mazda 3 would kill both of these.
Why would they crash a Volkswagen Jetta into a Toyota Corolla? It doesn’t make sense because the Jetta is heavier and is bigger than the Corolla. The Jetta used to be a small car competing with the Corolla but get with the times it’s not the 90s anymore.
They stated in the video that the Jetta and Corolla have more or less the same weight. This was not an unfair comparison; both cars are on new platforms and are in the same segment of vehicle, the Jetta just did better.
@@Swiss4.2no shit Sherlock the Jetta is bigger than
@@Dudeforty2 Theres no real difference; they're both practically the same size. The main thing is the weight and the Jetta actually weighs less than the Corolla, the Corolla should have done better but the Jetta just has a better structure. This was a fair test.
