Dr Carr you’re masterful Sir to break down Michael Jackson and to relate it to student loan debt profound instruction/teaching love this class!!! Thanks Prof. Hunter & Dr. Carr 💯💯💯💪🏽🔥🔥🔥
Dr. Carr, Professor Hunter, thank you for Ep. 129! Very informative, inspirational, news and facts we can benefit from now and in future. You are appreciated. kudos
Professor Hunter, I had a class in undergrad called Blacks and Public policy by a Black female professor at the University of Maryland who structured her class just like you. It was the best class I have EVER taken!
Professor Karen, I went to The University of the District of Columbia aka UDC and obtained a Bachelors degree which afforded me the pathway to bring both me and my mamma into a much better living space. People would make comments like University for Dumb Children. I remember being so hurt by those comments and thought I would do better trying to get into Howard University after I found out how much it cost to go to Howard, I was very much appreciative for UDC. Now I work a job where I had to just recently give my CFO a crash course in how to post a entry to off set a holding account, which is something some one on her level should know how to do. It is amazing the things that are meant to shame us are our biggest blessings and the things meant to make us feel elitist are the biggest problems.
Thank you Dr. Carr for speaking about higher education so plainly. Last year I was considering transferring from Portland Community College to Howard University so I could take your classes and attain the HBCU experience. Once I sat down and looked over the costs in my budget and the credits that would transfer, I realized that Howard University was not the correct fit for me for undergrad because. I am now on track to attend the University of Oregon with a full scholarship and plan on concentrating on Black Studies. I feel that through listening to your lectures week after week over the last two years I’ve come to understand the true meaning and value of education and not getting caught up in the label or brand of a college or the higher education industry.
Your comment wins the comments section. I love your aspiration but also how you did your homework and found other avenues to reach your goals and expand your knowledge. Good for you. I wish I did similarly...and didn't have this mini-mortgage worth of student loans from USC. But I'm grateful for some of the relief under this plan.
When Prof said she loves the destigmatization of community colleges I felt that. I went two universities (MVSU, NIU) & I received my BEST education when I came home to Malcolm X college on the West side of Chicago.
Would love to one day hear a deep analysis of Michael Jackson's radical blackness. As Dr. Carr alluded to, the Europeanization of his face (which is the same internalized self hate we all as black people have been taught and have to work like hell to overcome) was obviously in direct conflict with his grounding and the cultural blackness that was openly (and proudly) evident in his dance and his love of black cultural expression and black musical history. Even his appreciation for the beauty of black women is evident with many of the women he cast in his most notable videos (Ola Ray in Thriller, Iman in Remember the Time, Naomi Campbell in In The Closet, the sister in the Blood On The Dance Floor video) and then there's the classic Liberian Girl. Mike was truly an enigma and an embodiment of all the contradictions that form not only us as black people but this wretched white supremacists society. As Mike told us "They Don't Care About Us"
Wow I really enjoyed listening to Dr Carr, and Prof Hunter. The way Dr Carr breaks down Michael Jackson lyrics was everything. I'm glad to be part of this because I'm learning so much. Thank you both for sharing all your knowledge with us. Many blessings from Italy ♥️♥️🙏🏾
Alot of times library will sell off books that people don't show enough interest in, people are not checking them out. I've always had a love of books, not to say I have a huge library but I hang on to the ones I live even if I've read it a few times. I can't even bring myself to throw one out even if it's falling apart.
You two are on the top of my list of people I would love to have a conversation with. Dr. Carr, I was hoping I could connect with you while in Houston. PEACE and LOVE!
I genuinely understand loan forgiveness. I used to attend Strayer University about a year ago. My son was murdered on May 18 and 2021. I stop attending school because of his death. I am like one year from graduating with a Bachelor of Information Technology. I had a GPA of 3.6 while attend Strayer University but no one told me to apply for a scholarship. Thank you for all the information shared on this program. Much love and respect to Professor Hunter and Dr. Greg Carr.
This is why I love Dr.Carr (The Human Google)And sister Karen Hunter (A clean glass of water). Thanks for mentioning What's going on in Ethiopia. I was just having that conversation with my Ethiopian brother/coworker. How the hell the leaders over there have weapons to give the people to kill each other but they don't have food for them.... + How can a person be in debt to get an education that's not even quality in most cases S.M.H. ... God bless in class with Carr. Quality and free education/learning.. Imagine that.
Good everything, family! Sending love from Topeka, KS. In regards to the Tulsa riot, and locally for me, Brown vs Board, the same old ugly song. I knew Linda. When she was younger, she played the piano for my church. Linda was the sweetest person you'd want to meet. I used to love sitting by her while she played because I was taking this dreaded piano lessons as a child --at my Father's insistence. But I hopped on to say that the Tulsa tragedy and Brown decision are similar in the way that the children who were in that area had no idea of their importance, no inkling of their magnitude. My parents had dinner with one of the lawyers at least once a month. Personally, I was clueless. It wasn't until later in life that I asked better questions to my parents. And as in many cases, they didn't want to talk about it very much...my Dad suffered from PTSD from WWII, and my Mother was from OK, not real far from Tulsa. It's really sad we don't know our history well enough. But I thank and praise the Creator for leading me to both of you. 💕💕💕💕
Thanks for the perspective on the student loan debt. The student student debt is nothing compared to the breaks rich people and corporation got in the form of PPP AND THE BANKS FORGIVENESS
Excellent session indeed. I missed a few past ones I am gonna play catch up on. But enjoyed this timely conversation especially on them student loans I relate too. Plus an uber MJ fan too now checking out Slave to the Rhythm. The best of Miss Karen & Dr. Carr ALWAYS! 😃✊🏾🙂✊🏾
Hello two of my favorite people 💕 like always love ur podcast interesting from beginning to the end wonderful Educational program in so many aspects. Peace and blessings to you both. 🙏
Wow I didn't know that Micheal J Jackson was so significant to the culture I never listened to the words to his songs.....Not really..I just loved the his ...... music.
Professor Hunter they don't teach about Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma and only how i learned about it is that my grandfather told me about because he was born in 1913 and he was in Greenwood even though he was 8 years old and he told me about it and then i took black history in Junior High.
I didn't know anything about Garvey except that it had a negative connotation. I decided to sign the petition because, although some of the statements attributed to him give me pause, regardless of my personal feelings about someone an injustice should not be allowed to stand unchallenged. I hope my small contribution helps in some way.

Hello Class! I was wondering what books has been recommended on reading about Harriet Ross Tubman? She has always been one of my heroes..what a powerful question how many lives were forever changed cause she went back...
1:23 i feel the stupidest thing I listened to was not going to an HBCU like I wanted to. Many of my friends that went DID get the careers the naysayers said were impossible...and they have the connections

Why Michael Jackson, simple... My classmates please don't forget to connect, that Michael Jackson is one of the largest donators in history to the advancement of African American education (direct grants/scholarships to students with the least amount of restrictions.) He didn't just sing about -he let his money do the talking! When the student questioned Dr. Carr why use Michael Jackson due to his media troubles (he was never convicted in a court of law) I wish Dr. Carr would have said ... $300-$500 million reasons , young lady! Don't let them rewrite this out of history as well. Too many of us, made it because of MJs philanthropy! Always an honor to be in class - thank you both- you make a difference in more lives/communities than you know!
Hello Professor Hunter and Dr. Carr where can I sign up and start paying for the trip to Egypt 2023 ? I signed the petition just now and I am sharing it on Facebook.
Dr. Carr, whatabout the debtors who fell for transferring their loans from the federal government to private institutions under the guise of reduced interest rates and consolidation delusion.
The cancellation of debt is only wiping out the interest (a portion of the interest). With the remainder of the loan and the increase in inflation, the interest will increase as well, and therefore the debt remains.
Surprised that Professor Hunter didn't mention the history of the CUNY system and how it vital it was to economic mobility of people post WW2. CUNY is still putting out notable alumni that are impacting various sectors.
Saturday doesn't begin until I'm In Class with Professor Hunter and Dr. Carr...welcome family.🙏🏾
Dr Carr is a MASTER shade thrower, and i love it. I be over here dying 😂

As soon as Dr. Carr mentioned "Remember the Time" I went and watched that video with my third eye . Mike was AMAZIING!!!!
Well done with explanation of student loans.
I sat and listened attentively to the whole class. Very informative! Retired Southern born educator
Do you still have student debt ?
I had one college professor that was fluid in his teachings. I learned so much from his class because it wasn't so rigid.❤️
