    Yes, there were a LOT of both British and Hession mercenary deserters during the revolutionary war. Many of these men were only in the army because there simply was nothing for them in Europe, no land to look forward to buying someday, no jobs that didn't already have too many people doing it. Then they got shipped to the Americas and saw mile after mile of forested land (most of it free) that could be made into anything, and people wanting and needing workers in every line of work from cobblers to weavers to wood carvers. Why would you stay in the British army for ten shillings a quarter and five pounds sterling at the end of twenty years?

    Rob said he was broke and he read Roger's diary and the letters which also means he knows about the Jacobite gold. I think that's why he took Jem through the stones

    To see a rough exterior 18th century man letting wee Mandy comb his beard... my favorite visual of the season so far 😆

      That's because you never saw my brother, a similarly woolly man, letting his twin daughters comb and braid his hair and beard (with barrettes and ribbons). Once you've seen such a sight you'll never think of hairy/bearded men the same again. At least she had no sparkle nail polish. 😂

    Them not pointing out who horrible and dangerous the stones are, really makes decisions the characters have to make for plot, not make as much sense.
    All the people who have traveled generally are terrified of the stones, many have died making the journey, and many have described it like being ripped apart. And that it gets worse every time you go through. That's why more people dont just treat it like a consequence free doorway. At least in rhe book.
    Them taking that part out really makes character decisions make less sense unfortunately

    • @Ami_E_Bowen
      @Ami_E_Bowen Год назад

      Yes I was thinking about that too. In the book when Bree was pregnant they wanted her to go back but as soon as they found out she was pregnant they talked about how much time they had before the baby was born and were like "You can't put a baby through that!" Implying how horrible it feels as an adult to go through its probably much worse on a kid. And then in the show little Jemmy and baby Mandy (with a heart defect no less!) went through like it was the doorway to Sunday Church!

  • @Adrienne1eh
    @Adrienne1eh Год назад +2

    Yes, I picked up on that too "WE heard a strange noise" ("we" could mean Buck and his son, but did Morag hear it too??).
    Rob read the letters. I'd guess he's after the gold. If, as you said, he has some connection to Jocasta and Hector Cameron he might know that they took the French gold to America (maybe a tale that was passed down in the family?..) and figured out the reference to the Italian Gentlemen. And Jemmy knows where it is. ....In the books it's more than that, Rob is friends with another time traveller and they are involved in a much more complicated plot that I'm not sure the TV show has time to get into, but just in case, I won't say more.

    The gene was passed through Geillis, not the MacKenzies. Because Buck was adopted, he carried Geillis' gene through the MacKenzies. Jocasta married Camerons, who didn't have the gene.

    Cameron is just a common name. He's not related to them. I suppose he could be when you consider how many generations pass in 200 years, and that maiden names of mothers are forgotten, but for the purpose of this story, Rob Cameron is NOT related to them.
    Roger and Brianna are a bit further along the timeline because there was a time jump from their arrival in the 20th century with Mandy as a newborn, and now she's like 3. But only a year or so has passed for Jamie and Claire. That's pretty consistent with the rest of the show. Season 3 definitely didn't keep the timelines consistent during 20 years apart. (Example: Jamie's time at Helwater was when Brianna would be aged 10-17, but the 20th century side of that episode was when she was 20.) It's just a matter of skipping ahead to when drama happened. Besides Mandy's surgery and the move to Lallybroch, not a lot happened to the MacKenzies in the first two years of their return to the 20th century.
    I can tell that this first half of the season is going to have the same cliffhanger as the end of book 7 on the MacKenzie side. But the Fraser story line has many episodes to go before it gets to the end of book 7.
    Interesting take on William, that his reaction could go either way. Remember he was raised by Lord John Grey, though. And John told William the horrors of war in the abstract, but it went right over his head in his dreams of glory. He's still in shock at the moment, but the things John told him will come back to him with the context of what he has learned about war. I distinctly remember that in the book, roughly around this point in the story (it's different from the book, but close enough), William's internal narration mentioned that his papa had told him about his first kill. Lord John was 16, the battle of Culloden had just been won, and the soldiers were ordered no quarter. John didn't have a commission, so he really had no business following that order, but he was eager to prove he was a grown man, (plus he was grieving the death of his lover, but William doesn't know that part) so he found a wounded Jacobite soldier on Culloden field and shot him. Many years later, he told William he regretted it. The kill was not honorable. Naive teenage William just asked, "Wasn't someone going to kill him anyway? What difference does it make if you did it?" John said he missed the point. Now William gets the point. War is just death. There is no honor and glory. At least William's first kills were directly in defense of his own life.

    Diese Episode war sehr emotional.
    William erfuhr auf gnadenlose Weise was Krieg bedeutet. Sein Freund neben ihm starb durch einen Kopfschuss. Es hätte auch ihn treffen können.
    Der General Fraser, sagte ganz richtig zu ihm, man ist danach ein anderer Mensch.
    Der General ist ein Verwanter von Jamie, ein Cousin , so steht es im Buch.
    Jamie neckzt Claire, daß sie eine Brille braucht. Im Buch ist es lustig beschrieben. 😂😂😂😂
    Bree und Roger mit den Kindern erleben auch so einiges. Da ist erst mal Buck, der bei ihnen auftaucht. Roger klärt ihn erst mal auf, wer er ist. Rob ist ein Bösewicht. Er stellt Bree nach. Dann ist Jemmy verschwunden. Aber Mandy ist die einzige, die ihn finden kann.
    Wir werden erleben, daß beide Kinder einen besonderen Draht haben.
    Buchleser wissen das.
    💯💯👌💖💕👍

    Ok, where do I start? 1. They fought in ranks basically shoulder to shoulder because the smooth bore muskets in use at that time were very inaccurate and massing the fire was the only way to actually kill anyone they were shooting at. Rifled barrels were in existence though and some Americans used them because they needed the accuracy and extra range when hunting. Hence Daniel Morgan's Riflemen (real guy). 2. This General Fraser (also a real person) is from the Balnain branch of the Fraser family. They and the Lovat Frasers divided in the 14th century, so any genetic connection between him and Jamie would be virtually nonexistent. 🙃 RIP to Sinead.

    All I'm going to say is that this season is mostly from Book 7. Book 9 is on my bookshelf. Do you really think I could keep reading if Jamie were dead?
    Bear in mind that season 7 has SIXTEEN episodes. We're getting the 1st eight and then the 2nd eight will be along (early

      @ADayinMyLife yes, Jamie and Claire have had longer scenes because this is their story, but in an episode with around 5 minutes of Jamie and Claire, a sex scene with Roger and Bree added nothing to the story, had zero context and was a waste of time.
