There's a lot you don't know about Scott Bloomquist. Scott is someone that I erased nearly every week for 20 years. If you knew Scott, this crash would make a lot more sense to you.
Scott Bloomquist was one hell of a driver in a race car. I like many of us dirt track drivers apparently gives off a persona that we are Outlaws. We just like living life to its fullest.

As a race fan who's followed Scott's career closely, listened to what he's said about flying in the past and seen first-hand the man's personality and way of thinking, I want you to read my words and let them sink in before replying. Scott chose how he would exit. His cancer had been caught early, but it was not improving with treatment. His prior racing injuries left him in a lot of chronic pain. His lack of a license literally meant nothing because the man's father was a commercial aviator and Scott himself went to flight school and had flown that plane, which was maintained meticulously by himself and his father for decades. He only flew that plane at low altitude around the family property by himself to scout fishing spots in nearby ponds. He knew every nut, bolt, seal and gasket on that plane as well as he knew every part on his race cars.
If you look at the actual impact of that plane, he was already on the ground. that plane went in at ground level and the wings bent backward in a fashion compliant with him rolling into the side of that barn at speed at ground level, not a downward impact where he just happened to time it perfectly to hit the bottom edge of that barn. There's TWO possibilities in my mind, and only one that I would speculate to be true until a thorough mechanical evaluation of the plane is complete. #1 this was indeed him choosing how to exit. #2 the steering AND throttle both had to fail in such a way that it steered toward that barn and had the throttle pinned at the same time, and I don't believe in those kinds of 'final destination' coincidences.
Rest in peace to the best damn driver who lived and died HIS WAY.

So many of you people commenting stupid things obviously have no knowledge of Scott or his past. This man’s father was a commercial pilot and owned a crop dusting company in California. His dad sent him to flight school. He soloed one on the planes still currently in the farm from California when he was 16. So saying that just because he didn’t have a license is what caused the crash is absolutely absurd. Him not having a “license” looks bad but this man has probably logged more flight time than a lot of you on here preaching about a pilot’s license

Only thing that I see that is going out on your own terms is the ones that are left behind. I pray that they can and will find peace with this as Scott has. Knowing chronic pain and having your world ripped apart from it is something I know all too well. I came to peace with leaving on my terms but I could only think of my children... Scott and being current with the FAA was just not who he was. He's been flying these planes his whole life without a license, he's never been shy admitting that or much of anything really.
Of course, we all wonder about it and of you know anything at all about him, you know, he's going to do it his way. I'm not going to go that far, but damn if it don't have a "Second Hand Lion" vibe to it, hitting the barn. He was a good pilot which complicates it all that much more.....If weather wasn't a factor? ` well, it will be a mystery won't it? End of the day, he is Legend~ and accomplished feats never to be approached.
I'm a glass half full person, that's what would make him proud, he did it all, did it his way. You can't argue the results. He was almost my age and until you get to that point? you can't understand that, it's OK, don't cry. Life is a play with 3 acts, he, like myself, are in the 3rd act. You see shit different than you would 30 years ago~ You'll see ;)
