- Scott Bloomquist’s time at the top has not been without controversy and the interview touches on his various legal issues and suspensions over the years. Scott is open on the subject and explains to Dale Earnhardt Jr. and co-host Mike Davis how his appearance and success have led others to assume the worst about him. The infamy that came with the arrests boosted Scott’s reputation and ultimately led to him becoming a colossal figure in the sport.

One of the best interviews you've had on the show. When Bloomer pulled in,Usually late, you new you were gonna be racing for 2nd place. NO HOTLAPS ,HE STILL WON
Ronnie Johnson was another that showed up at the last possible minute
@@reginaldhall6871 his dad Joe Lee owned the track mentioned. He was the first winner of the World 600 at Charlotte.
Dick Trickle did the same thing, arrive at the last minute and win the Feature.
@@BogattheMoon Someone mentioned that the Cleveland was closed & demolished. I had no idea. I went to my 1st Hav-a-Tampa race there & Bloomquist won it. I live about 10 miles from the Dega track & he won everytime I seen him run at the short track.
@@reginaldhall6871 yeah man, that one hurt. My sister lives in Southside, outside of Gadsden. I need to hit Talladega Dirt Track.
Watched this guy show up late to Virginia motor speedway, pull the car out set the air in the tires, fuel the car and warm the engine while pushing the car to tech.. than go right out and destroy the track record on his very first lap... then came off the track and spent the next 45 minutes talking to fans in the pits.. dudes such a nice guy. He's an incredible late-model set up guy.. as good as he in the car he's even better at the tech setup of these cars..
Scott once told me on the front straightaway at the Topless 100 " Half of them love me, half of them hate me, but they are all hear to see me" and he laughed. He was exactly right! I was the flagman for two of his Topless wins. He is on the Mt Rushmore of Late Model racing!
Bloomers a stand up guy. Meet him 5 years ago. Respect!!!
I have a great memory with Scott Bloomquist. My grandson and I were walking around at Lucas Oil in Wheatland MO and I noticed you sitting in the spectator lounge. I told him to wave and Scott invited him over and he invited him to sit at the table with them. It made his day! I think he was 8 at the time.
Scott Bloomquist has always been my favorite dirt late model driver. Always great to his fans. It would be interesting if he wrote a book!
The man! The legend! The goat ! Black Sunshine!
I was at rockingham speedway testing busch car with rcr, and scott was testing with a small team, they were having power steering problems scott told them to take the belt off, and he tested all day at the rock with no power steering, and ran pretty damn good for car he was in, so yeah hes a bad ass and got my respect that day
Always a good show when Scott pulled in. Loved seeing him, Moyer, Wendell Wallace, Freddy Smith, all those guys in the 80's early 90's.
I watched Scott race live probably half a dozen times. The man is a late model genius. Watched him and eckert run side by side for over 20 laps. Never touched or done anything dirty to each other. Great driver.
The best I ever seen on dirt
Dale, you and Mike do a great job of bringing out the best in a person during an interview. In this case there is lots to work with and Scott seems like a wonderful person. My kinda' guy!
Bloomquist 🤟 I was fortunate Enough too do some metal Polishing for him. Hungout couple months. All I gotta say is don't judge a book by its cover. He taught me so much about just life in general and that Anything is Possible. He was in wheelchair and still was racing. Was at the Gobbler 100 that he won and it was Amazing,He Rose too the Occasion for His Crew. It was Legendary
I can remember the talk in the pits at the tracks in Tennessee. Everything from he sold coke to buy his first car to he was smuggling in his hauler. I can remember all the time I was around him he was nothing but the best around and always a good guy. Definitely the best I ever seen in a dirt late model.
First time I got to see Scott race live was April 2011 at Bedford speedway . His pit was straight across from my seat. He ran hot laps, pulled in and they unloaded the backup car… they pulled both engines and put the backup cars engine in the car he ran hot laps in… started it with maybe 10min before time trials and set a new track record at that time. First sub 19sec lap ever and dominated the feature. Been a fan ever since!
My ex-wife went with her new bf to PPMS one year and she goes to the autograph session and she's just in love with Jimmy Owens but she saw Bloomquist and says "my ex husband is a huge fan of your's but I don't like you." And he still signed the autograph. Dude is awesome
One of the all time great race car drivers
I've had friends who always talked about meeting him up at Eldora and saying he was the most polite nice guy they've met. He was always a favorite of mine to root for at Atomic speedway(KC raceway).
Truth. I'm 42 and have asked him for autographs my whole life ar Eldora and he is the nicest guy.
I've met him twice down in Mississippi and he was super nice both times.
I’ve met him many times and it’s true. Always talked with us if he could
I was in the pits at Batesville Speedway on practice night one year for the topless 100. I was standing along the fence taking a pic of one of the cars and Bloomer came driving by. I wasnt paying attention because I was trying to get the pic, but that clown revved on it as he got up to me...scared the bejeezus out of me. I know damn well he was laughing like hell at that
These types of interviews are very interesting. Keep up the great work.
That dude is on another level. That is what has made him so successful is his brain is always thinking and he obviously only focuses on one thing at a time. So while all the BS of the world is happening around him he has the ability to turn that all off and think about making his race car faster and getting the maximum grip. And yes I’ve seen him arrive after heat races and qualifying have started and have to start at the back of the B features to come all the way through to win just to start at the back of an A feature to come all the way through and win.
"Black Sunshine" ROCKS
in the late 90's I would go with the "Headman " Mike Head to the southern Allstars races , It was always a treat when Scott showed up to race. A true legend of dirt racing
Nascar is in desperate need of badasses like this. So tired of the cookie cutter kids that run now.
Chastain is pretty entertaining to watch. And not just because of his wild wall ride. If anyone reminds me of the old Nascar drivers it's him. He like a wild combination of Jimmy Spenser & Ernie Ervin but he gets better results
@@reginaldhall6871 l agree
U aint never lied! Larsons a bmf but he's not an against tha grain hell raiser. Im not too big of fan these days cause if u dont have a last name,ur not in. They keep that click tight
When it came to dirt racing, Scott was the one to watch. He put on a show.
I watch the episodes on peacock every week, why has this episode not been added yet because I'm extremely interested in seeing it,I know I can listen to it on the podcast but I like to see the actual people talking and seeing their expressions and demeanor just makes it so much more interesting, and why don't they show the hole podcast on peacock either, just curious???,thanks for all the content and everything you guys do,I really enjoy it all
You can't brag about the game until you're out of the game...lol
Bloomquist is still an American Hero!
I was around dirt racing back in the 80s and 90s, people were trying to get Bloomquist every way they could because
they couldn't beat him. Saw him get sent to the back of the pack more than once for BS "violations" and he`d still end
up winning, that is how dominate he was at that time.
Promoters new how to have a great show.
I almost fainted when you said cleveland speedway. I live in Cleveland and grew up watching amd racing there. They tore it down a few years ago. We miss it dearly. Thanks for bringing that up.
Fainted? 🤣😂🤣😂
Scott Bloomquist is my new hero, what a guy".No Weak Links,Take No Prisoners". What a nice, smart, everyday type of regular guy, with a GREAT life story.
I'm with ya!
Scott bloomquest is one of the coolest people I've ever met I had the opportunity to meet him while I was working not at a racetrack but he was the coolest racer I had met in a long time really cool guy
Thx Dale, this was really Very Cool for me!! in 1983 I was at the speedway in Chula Vista, California. Scott Won, a lap ahead !!
I hope Jr. interviews Darrell Alderman some day! Boomer is such a one of a kind, can't get enough!
Thanks for the mentioning of our late great Cleveland TN speedway 😢!! 💯✊🏽
I met Scott at Jax raceway in the 80s and 90s Hava Tampa series we had a great time in Blg Black F -350 awesome memories 😎
I have had the pleasure of meeting Scott and talking after the races great guy really nice we talked for probably an hour
This guy is the best to ever race latte models on dirt! I've seen him take plenty of other racers to school. No one was keeping up when he had it hooking up. What s guy!
The download is great but this is too..."historic"?...to not see in it's entirety. I mean c'mon, it's Dale Jr. interviewing The Bloomer! As far as racing podcast go? This is about as epic as it gets. 🏁
Seen Scott race before all of this and even worked on his cars here in Australia and man I've never seen anyone except Jack Hewitt drive the way he did with such control and aggression at the same time
What a great story 👊
I raced Go Karts with him once or twice, he subbed for a friend that got hurt in a wreck but from where I live at, Bloomer is one of the best !!
Awesome interview
Thank you for the video
Scott thanks for your honesty and strength. I've seen Scott race in Tennessee and what a treat! Dale, good interview bro.
I live In Cleveland Tennessee.. I went to Cleveland Speedway everytime Bloomquist was there.....Heck Yeah... Cleveland Speedway is Long Gone Now Y'all
Wasn't that Cleveland track paved for a while?
Happy Birthday to mister Scott bloomquist! 59years young
Scott is a BADASS! He is the last true outlaw!
What Scott went through during that time in the 90s is not anything I really thought about or kept up with at the time. Especially since I had already been following his and Billy Moyer Sr. career years before that took place. Because my two favorite late model drivers were Bloomquist and Moyer.
They tried all they could do too Cancel him. It BackFired
@@DeaDEye.21 Yes, which I am glad I did not have to hear much of it until afterwards.
People should look at Scott’s stats when he shows up to a race track for the first time absolutely phenomenal I think he wins is like 80%
I've been a fan of bloomer from when I was in my teens. Hoping to maybe meet him one day
Just insane that I’ve seen this guy as a kid at a small local track on a Friday night with only like 5k going to the winner. Always was the fastest. Had the coolest looking car back then, most insane holler. Just awesome.
Looking forward to listening to this Podcast. Always new he was a bad ass, but never knew what a COOL "down to earth " bad ass he is.
I never had the chance to see Scott race in person but I have watched tons of videos that he ran in. He's one badass driver and not the guy that people said he is.
Played in the high limits room at the casino in Murphy nc with Scott all night. Was a fan of him my entire life and he made me even more of one after hanging out with me playing 100$ slots. Awesome dude
The Goat
Amazing Man.
Growing up in northeast TN and racing at Bristol I feel very close to this and remember it. Always loved both of you. @Dale Jr. We have a van at work that belonged to your uncle. It was the family and crew shuttle from the 90's. It has all kinds of Earnhardt stickers and writing on it. It has a mossy oak headliner. I'm going to have to restore it in the next couple of years and wanna keep all the original Earnhardt stickers and signatures on it.
Like many people I've always had that suspicion in the back of my mind like he was tied to some murky stuff and like he admitted, people are drawn to believe things that make an idol larger than life. But at the end of the day I've always thought you don't know what you don't know, and the fact is that he's a great driver and a down to earth person- and that's where I'm gonna leave my opinion at. Truly a character- in a good way.
That was interesting !
I owe Mr. Bloomquist a huge apology. I've never liked the guy just based on what I had heard about his charge's. I'm man enough to admit my faults and Mr. Bloomquist I do apologize and have become a fan.
Great interview jr. Never heard of this guy. Probably because I from northeast.
Scott is one cool dude. When he said how you find out who your friends are when you're down. Divorce showed me that. Sucks to find out who the crap people are
they need to make that movie.
This interview is the reason NASCAR didnt want Bloomer to race in NASCAR, and did everything to keep him from racing, ypical
When NASCAR was going mainstream in the 90s they definitely didn't want a guy coming in that had been arrested for selling drugs. There's very good chance Scott would have been very successful in the right situation.
@@kyleolson279 I Dont doubt that a bit
@@kyleolson279 obviously
Wish he would have got into the early Jeff Purvis/ Scott Bloomquist Dirt stuff before Jeff moved on for Asphalt. Been cool stories.
The goat of late-model racing and a character too boot
Met him at Fonda speedway!! Nice guy !
I never new the real truth until now!. That's Black Sunshine for ya!.
The Sheriff he is speaking of was my late father
So…what was the LE side of the story?
Folks have always said Bloomquist was a dope dealer, I have no firsthand knowledge but some reputable old timers will tell you that
Dale Jr is my brother
He was no dope dealer. He just pissed off another crooked cop
I'm Dale
He is a character
Hello Hey Hi and Howdy Dale ..Hello Hey Hi and Howdy Scott Bloomquist Cleveland Tenn waivin a Hand ✋️ Y'all ..Peace ✌️Love ❤️ and 18 Wheelz to All. watch Bloomquist and the Hav a Tampa series every time
Please keep doing these dirt guys!!!
I worked for Scott Recently,He's down ta Earth Guy ,💯🏁A few of us call him Dad because he does care about people and His Friends ☠️☯️👑🏁Hey I wanna Dirty Mo shirt haha 🤘
Use to love going to bulls gap and watching him roll in like a boss and usually win like the boss!!
Iv meant Scott several times Great guy.
Dale when are you and Scott going UFO hunting??
With Scott you will find.
🤣🤣
Lol I was wondering if he’d be asked about the cocaine stuff eventually
Love it Jr ------- by far BEST racing podcast .... Thank you
Peace and love --- stay safe
Bloomquist the true outlaw! seen him many times at Volusia.
Jr is seriously an amazing interviewer. Great job!
Yessir I leaned who my friends was
I had the joy of meeting him at a track in Northern Indiana as I was an official. Great guy. BTW-someone please tell him to quit drinking Propel if that's what he had, 2Much SALT IN THOSE DRINKS
Like Jr I always only heard the worst version of the “drug dealing”. But Scott was a badass on the track. The discussion was always, who will finish second?
I always enjoyed watching him race, but I still pulled for Billy Moyer. It was exciting though to watch when both of them were on that night.
Scott bloomquist is my favorite dirt track racer in the world he is one of the most talented racers I’ve ever seen on dirt
Great racer, one of the best ever. Weird dude, one of the weirdest ever.
Where is the entire interview?
Me and my Late Father's favorite dirt driver I would always call him the Dale Earnhardt of dirt.
Grew up watch bloomer we would travel all over to see him. I’m from Tennessee live about 10 minutes from THE Smoky mountain Speedway. Bloomer was the sh$$…
This reminds me there was a certain chassis that was used accidentally at a race here in Indiana and that particular car was in a bad wreck I think hit the wall and it was packed with cocaine. It left a trail as the record left. It was well known for a while but I'm not going to mention who it was because the man driving the car didn't know anything about it nor did the owner it was an accident and shipping somehow nor will I name the chassis but I would say a few people on here has heard about it.
The cocaine arrest killed all the nascar hype around him. Damn was it awesome whenever you saw him pull up at your local dirt track. You knew he was gonna dominate.
Perception. We all have lived it if you got your feet to the fire. The truth shall set you free.
The original GOAT of dirt racing. Bloomquisr. Period
DE jr thought Scott stopped racing for 8 years??? He must not really follow dirt late models
Sounds like Jr's research staff is more on cocaine, than allegedly Scott was.
@@chakagenghiskhan4057 lol 💀☠
or maybe he was busy racing?
I didnt hear he smuggled i just heard he did coke a long time ago & u know what, who cares! As long as nobodys under the influence while racing. Truth is,a LARGE portion of the folks at a dirt track, drag strip, mud race, dirt drags, etc have played with em or still doin em whether it b weed,pills,etc...thats just real talk. Not glorifing it. Just stating that the folks pointn fingers have skeletons in theyr closet too so dont listen to the noise
BO, LUKE and SCOTT Dukes of Hazard
He raced at thunder ridge in ky while he was locked up , They let him out to race but had a prison guard with him probably in mid 90s
I love me some Scott bloomquist
How many race teams started with funding...that wasn't legit...dig into....that would be a good show....local racers?
It's the big teams that stand out....
I live 20mins from his local track it was called atomic motor speedway and it was always said that he sold coke
Always hated Bloomquist but, after what he said about the NASCRAP experience and Helton, he has a new fan. Always knew NASCRAP was fixed.
That was hard for fans. Hated to see that..
