I bought the Lite to play Animal Crossing in 2020. As a casual, cozy gamer, I don't see any need to upgrade to an OLED. After holding my coworker's OLED, I do think my Life feels better in my hands.
The Switch Lite is really starting to appeal to me. My OLED’s screen pops like no other. But I do notice the pixels more. I’m mostly handheld and with a grip on my OLED, my hands do get tired more with the extra weight. Also, the small wiggle you get from joycons makes it almost unbearable for me to play without a grip or case on it
Yuuuup. I 100% get that. I would recommend the HORI Split Pad Pro for more comfortable gaming. It won't help much with the overall weight of the console though. 😅
The main reason you won't see pixellation on the Lite is because the screen's just so much worse than the OLED's. portability: Okay. But don't replace your OLED. Even if you only use the OLED docked at ~1-4% of the time, not having the option to use it docked _at all_ will get on your nerves, let me tell you. I switched from the Lite to the OLED, and it's simply no comparison.
@@fryke that’s funny, cause other than the technology of the screen (OLED) they have no other differences PPI determines that. But it won’t be replacing my OLED. It will just be my main device. I mainly play handheld. So even if I did replace it. It wouldn’t be a big deal for me. Thanks for trying to stop me from making a bad decision lol.
My sister was given the Lite years ago. She never felt the need to upgrade until I myself upgraded to the OLED and offered my “old” one. Having the ability to remove the remotes to play more comfortably in bed, changing the colors and using those controllers when we played multiplayer was a huge step up. Not to mention the ability to play on a TV or monitor. That was HUGE as a upgrade and hard to look back for her after that. The bigger screen was nice as well but it still baffles me the Lite didn’t have the ability to output the display via HDMI at the very least.
i guess it would completely take away the point of getting a switch if you can just get a cheaper switch lite to hook up to a tv, also the switch lite is supposed to be completely handheld anyways that was one of the marketing points:)
at some point after all the crazy sellouts happened (during which I got my banana lite) I traded my lite in for just the regular switch and love it so much better. I do miss the smaller size for handheld but I much prefer trading that for being able to play with my TV and other people.
I'm an adult and got a switch lite two years ago and until now, i never got joycon drift and i'm playing almost everyday with this useful machine. Hope it ll continue to work well...
I very much prefer my new switch lite to my day one Nintendo switch. Newer battery “better” screen (at least in some aspects) and I just like the overall compactness of the lite. Definitely happy with the price point of the lite upgrade.
I've had my Lite for two years. I was really unsure weather or not to get it, I had a normal Switch but I had "used up" 3 sets of joycons and the all drift like crazy. I have never, not once, experienced drift on the Lite and I play on it a lot. I also prefer playing in handheld mode, and the Lite is just better for that. It's lighter and it just fits better in my small hands. My wrists dosen't end up hurting after hours of playtime like they did on the regular switch. The screen is ofc a tad smaller, but once you get used to a smaller screen, if switching from a regular Switch, it's not something you think about at all. If you start with a Lite as your first Switch, it won't be an issue at all. I love my Lite so much.
I have been planning to buy a switch v2 but the joycon drift is really scaring me since the console itself and the extra accessories are all too expensive.Would you recommend the lite since it is a cheaper option and would i need to worry about stick drift?
I have an Oled and a Lite and use the Lite way more. It feels way more compact, sturdy, and there's just something to playing a huge game kike Xenoblades on such a small console. It's great. And If they make a revised version with an oled screen and bigger battery, it'll be the best handheld ever
I started with the Switch Lite in 2020 for Animal Crossing and just recently upgraded to the ACNH Switch. The Switch Lite has better buttons overall in my opinion. They’re more stealthy if you want to play in bed next to your S/O. Other than that, I like the Switch for the screen size and the built in speakers. Both great purchases for casual gamers.
Oh man! I bought my Steam Deck not that long ago and absolutely love it! That and Steam Cloud are great for gaming on the go! I really enjoy the Lite, but my son has been hogging it since we got it. 😅
I bought a yellow Lite on launch day in 2019 and still use it in late 2022. I am currently playing Factorio coop with my friend on PC and loving the experience. Never thought this console would be so awesome many years later.
I’ve had a Steam Deck for about a month now and while I absolutely love it, I still occasionally reach for my Switch Lite. I’ve had it for years and still can’t get over how tiny it is. It’s freaking adorable.
The only thing with oled that concerns me is the burn that a lot of oled screens get. Maybe on a gaming console it wouldnt be a problem as things are moving and it isnt stuck on one image.
Most of what I've seen online points to burn in not being a real big issue. I have an LG G1 and have been watching and playing all sorts of things. If you want news or sports all day and only that, then you'll get burn in for sure.
@@Lemonade_Stand_ someone did a test & left the oled on for over a year straight with no burn in. Look it up. The new oled screens are way better and it’s almost impossible to get burn in. If a year straight did not do it you will not by playing a game.
I upgraded from lite to oled, overall it was a good upgraded, but what I really missed from lite is the portability aspect. I have flip case so I can just tossed it to most of my bag, in oled case I need to bring extra case and sometimes it cumbersome to bring. And surprisingly I really dont mind the screen on lite. I wish they will release switch lite oled
Yes! A Switch Lite OLED would be amazing. The size difference between the OLED and Lite is small, but significant enough to make one much more portable than the other.
Definitely depends on the person of what they prefer! My Bf owns the OLED one since he prefers it to be played on tv and he gets tiring if he holds it for hours. And he was planning to buy me one and I stated I only prefer the lite one since it seems to be fit with me. So excited to receive mine!
I got my Switch Lite second hand. Lots of them around on the second hand market, as a lot of people bought them in lockdown and don't use them any more. Worth keeping an eye out. I also have a gaming pc, so i didnt feel the need for a switch i could dock. Was more just to be able to play Nintendo first party games on and a few pc ports on the go.
I’ve had a lite since launch day, it’s now starting to drift slightly and some of the buttons are a little stiff now so I think it’s time to upgrade to an OLED, but I’ve personally had basically 0 complaints about my lite thus far, the nice colours definitely helped for me, so even though I’ll be upgrading in January I will always recommend a switch lite, especially for the price. (I also have very small hands and it’s more comfortable in my hands than a regular switch so added bonus)
@@baldlyrudy I’ll probably get them fixed after I get my OLED and sell it or just give it to a friend, but they’ll definitely be getting fixed at some point
I have the lite and im happy with it. When i was debating between the two (the OLED wasnt out at the time), everyone said that they rarely played their switch docked. Now 2 years later im considering getting a "regular" switch so i can play docked but im still on the fence. I doubt i would use the docked mode much but im finding that there are a few games that i sort of wish were on a larger screen. It definitely isnt a priority though, when the OLED came out i was sort of hoping the other switch would come down in price a bit but it didnt and i havent been able to justify the plunge to the "regular" switch yet. If you find the lite uncomfortable in your hands i recommend getting some grips... i have a satisfye grip and i never feel any hand fatigue.
I’ve found that most games have in the settings to turn off motion controls ,I’ve had no issues playing any games from regular switch to the switch lite. I highly recommend!
My wife loves here Switch Lite. The 3DS was her favorite system and she only really cares about playing on a TV if we are doing something in Co-Op. So for her it's perfect.
I loved this video everything you said was pretty accurate I bought my switch lite back in 2020 I just recently broke after two good years of play I definitely agree with it being durable cause I dropped mine all the time 😂 I did however decide to upgrade to a v2 and I love it more personally
As I pretty much only ever had Nintendo handhelds (I had a handed down SNES as my first console in like 2005 but never used it much at the time and sold it rather quickly) so this is perfect for me. Nintendo means handheld and handheld means Nintendo to me so I enjoy the form factor and being limited to handheld only. The price on top and it's my favorite version for sure!
I haven't ever had a gaming system and a few folks recommend the Nintendo Lite, I will be putting money away and hopefully come tax time I can treat myself to some games! Thank you for sharing this video
I've owned every single Switch model and the Lite is the best one, hands down. Hell, it might even be the best handheld overall if value and portability are deciding factors. You're getting a system that plays AAA games for $100-120 used, is far more comfortable to use than the other Switch models, and can actually fit in your pocket. That they managed to cram so much power into something so small and light, yet have a large enough screen to make it feel uncompromised, makes it feel more impressive than the other Switch models currently do today.
Totally agree. I`ve had all models as well and sold them all but my little blue Lite. With a 512GB SD card and TotK, it`s so awesome. Plus it has more PPI than all models. The only downside to me is the lack of HD Rumble since I`m addicted to rumble since the launch of N64`s Rumble Pack. Boy, I`m getting ancient.
To sum it all up, they’re the same, except ones bigger and connects to a tv. The lite being sturdier seems like a better choice. The regular switch seems so flimsy.
I had the OG Switch then a Switch Lite in yellow then a second gen (red box) OG Switch which I recently sold to help fund a Steam Deck. And by far design wise the Lite is the best. Not sure my eyes liked the smaller screen though. But it’s just so cool. Tempted to get another one. Decent machine and cheap enough to receive as a present.
When buying a Switch, I decided to choose the regular Switch over the Lite. Now, I don’t regret my decision at all, but having a Switch Lite as a secondary system would be very nice. Also, I find the Lite much more attractive. It doesn’t have those slots and slits the regular Switch has. The color selection for the Lite is also super nice, I especially love the purple-blue. I just hope it would be big enough for my man hands 😅
This can’t be coincidence I just congratulated you on RUclips partner on Facebook and then RUclips suggests this video to me when I’ve never seen your channel before
What my own research told me about the drift. Just be mindful about how you actually play. If you get excited playing Smash or something remember that a softer motion will be sufficient. Also if you eat while playing, using dirty hands or have dust and things get in the joystick, this increases the chance of drift. Otherwise its really fine and the service of Nintendo is always amazing.
Sold my Oled start of year for steam deck . Was a dumb move ... Just bought a lite and its absolutely perfect bought spare joycons for 12 bucks as a back up . Dont even miss the Oled
I was debating on buying the Lite or OLED but I settled down for OLED for the overall gaming experience and it did not disappoint. Lite is good to keep you entertained while traveling and you can also just carry it around in your bag as it doesn’t require as much space, but the OLED one offers level-up experience for me and the big screen with good audio are always plus points for me! Thanks for this review, it actually helped me a lot on deciding 😁
I understand wanting to cut down on cost so the system is cheaper then nails, but removing the main gimmick of switching it from handheld to you tv is a huge reason why I would usually just recommend to people to just save and buy a normal switch instead for the switch feature alone, not to mention if the damn thing drifts you can't simply replace the controllers like on the normal switch you have to buy a whole new system to replace it, which is just another reason not to buy a switch lite, though to give the switch lite credit from using a friend of mines for a bit, it is super comfortable to hold for its way lighter and slimmer design
I bought an OLED last week as my first Switch but I'm pretty curious about the Lite. I wouldn't mind buying it for games that aren't demanding for joycons like visual novels and other types of games. My OLED is basically docked only because the thing is so massive even for my big hands. Something like the Lite would be cool as a secondary Switch.
Yeah. That's a great use case scenario. I can see it as something that is used as a side console. In my case, I'd probably use it more as a travelling Switch.
When the Lite first came out I got a yellow one, but when I opened that bad boy up the left joystick was making a weird clicking noise. Returned it, bit the bullet, and got a regular switch. Best decision ever. I would’ve loved to save a bit by getting the Lite, but the joysticks scare me. If they go then the whole system is done. At least with a regular one joy cons are replaceable.
Yeah. That's the main fear that I have. I still went in with an open mind. It seems like not everyone has had that clicking noise. I've heard people talk about it though. Seems like it's hit or miss.
You can calibrate the Sticks in the Switch menu... which fix most drifts. But nobody speaks about it. Otherwise you can clean it with some tutorials on YT.
When I was selecting things to put on my Christmas wish list, I wanted my own switch. I thought about choosing a switch lite, because it's cheaper, and my grandma would more likely buy that, but after seeing this video, I'm glad I chose to put a regular switch on it. I would prefer to have rumble over none. I also would like the option to dock my switch, as well as taking the joycons off. I also would like to have rumble, because it's a lot more immersive and some games that I enjoy don't have the option to turn it off. I also probably wouldn't like the smaller screen, as I have bad vision.
Own a switch lite as my primary console. Recently bought a Steam Deck. To be honest this is probably the perfect combo. The ultra portability of the switch lite is great for on the go, while the steam deck is awesome for gaming on the couch.
I traded in my Steam Deck after 3 months of use because I was missing using the Lite. The SD is a complete beast in comparison and drains battery like nothing else. I much prefer Nintendo consoles for handheld experiences.
The Switch Lite is perfection, as far as the Switch line of products is concerned - the OG and OLED aren't fun to play handheld, and the parts wiggle and jiggle with time.
Great video , just bought mine I chose this over the oled version , the lite reminds me of my old game boy advance sp , for the price it’s the best console out
I bought my switch lite before covid. It's 2022, and I haven't updated to the switch v2 or oled. I'm actually enjoying my lite. I got a grip and controller for it, so I'm good.
I like the lite when I want to play a game fully handheld. It gives me the same vibes as using my 3ds just as a switch. I also have baby hands so it definitely fits better in my hands. Still have the typical switch for ring fit, just dance, animal crossing, and other titles. I just switch between the two 💕
I just copped a Switch OLED in large part to play Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Found the emulation to be lackluster on my Steam Deck and wasn't keen on being stuck at my desk to play it there. I'm liking it so far, kids are fond of some of the titles too.
I thought of buying the OLED (I could afford it), but in my case I wouldnt ever play it on TV. I wanted a portable console and the Lite has been perfect for me so far, it's not heavy, the screen feels big and has every practical function needed. Rn I'm playing Pokémon Violet and the only thing I miss is batery lasting a little longer
@@baldlyrudy It's great!! There are a few little bugs, but they're pretty irrelevant for me, so I'm actually really enjoying the gameplay. Greetings from Spain!
I am having a really hard time deciding which one to get. I could get a used switch + case + 512gb card for 150 euro OR a brand new switch lite with 1 year online for 200 euro. I do have to move every three weeks. any input on the matter?
@@leeeverett4067 this is my alt, I got the Lite. VERY HAPPY. been replaying all the twd games funnily enough. This time on the couch, bed or just anywhere really. I haven't missed not being able to dock. The lite feels good in the hand and is awesome to casually play games.
@ i got the lite. I love it. I had a normal switch before but i find the lite way more enjoyable. Feels great in the hand and is the perfect size. Definitely not too small of a screen. Been replaying all of the walking dead games.
I have both the Lite and the Oled. I like the Oled for portable gaming when I’m home instead of the dock or if I were to bring it to a friends house. Along with non Indie games for me. I prefer the Lite if I were actually traveling somewhere cause that fits better in my bag, so gaming here and there for a few minutes at a time, and for the Indies. That’s just me. Love both!
I just bought a switch lite three days ago and I'm already in love with it. I bought it so I can play when I have nothing to do at my job. I used to play on my cousin's switch and when I worked at my old job they had the ACNH switch edition in the break room. They're both cool to have detachable controllers and such but I really love how comfortable and portable the lite is. I'm planning on playing casual games like ACNH and Stardew valley with my gf. I'm already a console and PC gamer so having something light, relaxing, and on the go is perfect for me.
Its target audience def meant for children and casual players (there was even a sales report last year that said most Switch Lite buyers are women). Hell, even my twin sister who's not a huge gamer bought one solely to play Animal Crossing and Pokemon. Plus the Lite is noticeably way more affordable in a lot of other currencies. In my country just the normal Switch costs as much as a minimum wage, and the Lite is 40% less lol. There's definitely a market for the Lite. It's basically like the 2DS for the 3DS.
The joysyick drift problem mainly came from the metals loss contact to the board due to many presses on the joystick that progressively separate each other
Got my switch lite maybe for Christmas 2019, loved it and have so many hours played on Pokémon, Luigi’s mansion, fortnite, Star Wars skywalker saga. It performs great and the only “bad” thing is that the more intense games like skyealker saga and fortnite drain the battery quickly but I don’t ever travel without my charger. It’s held up great and even survived a pretty bad drop a year ago, no joystick issues. Well worth the $200
Glad to hear the Lite is sturdy enough to survive a bad drop. I have been lucky with mine and have not dropped it once since I got it on launch day. I don’t really use it other than inside my house or other people’s houses and I keep it in a case whenever it is not in use.
I got myself a used turquoise Switch lite + a turquoise color satisfye elite bundle for it for 150€. Paired it up with a cheap Anker 10.000mAh powerbank and i've already bought 2 8bitdo small turquoise controllers for 25€. Killer deal on everything if you ask me :D
Appearances aren't everything. The lite has better battery Better screen Is lighter No wobbly joy con's Yeah lite is Nintendo doing what they do best .
I couldn't decide between the Oled and the lite, so i chose the Oled , amazing screen but i hate how the joy cons move when i play, and it is big for normal bags size, I'm thinking of buying lite and keep the Oled 🤔
I literally bought mine in like November and it's SO GOOD, I use it way more than the OG switch but I'm still glad I have the OG to play games on a larger screen :^)
I really regret buying the v1 switch as my very first one to own because I realized that my hands would get tired and having to constantly put back the joycons because ONE needs to charge is a bit frustrating when im in the mood for playing with no interruption. Ever since buying the lite, oh my, I fell in love with it and it made me want to buy more games to play on it (even bought a big microsd card for it which i never did for any of my consoles), it reminds me of the psp that i always wanted but never really pursued to buy it
A lot of people have find memories with the PSP, Vita, 3DS, and even Gameboy. The Switch Lite seems to scratch that itch, and it does so very well. It's a great handheld.
I've owned solely a switch lite since summer 2020 and I love it. Because of small apartment living, I don't have a TV/console setup I love so I've put off purchasing a switch or switch OLED. It's been 2.5 years of heavy use and my lite hasn't had any drift issues
I don’t regret getting the switch lite the portable small nature really sold it for me reminded me of the old gameboy era and a good 3rd console with my PlayStation and Xbox
It's not just geared towards the younger audience. I'm 26 but have tiny hands so the switch light is perfect. Ontop of that I love Portable handheld gaming and yes the switch is portable but the switch lite is a more convenient size portable.
I play more handheld as well. But it's size and form definitely makes it seems like something geared towards people that have smaller hands. Nothing wrong with being 26 and preferring the Lite.
My problem is with the price of the games and the library of games. The switch has been out for like 5 years and i can count on two hands the games im interested in buying. Im not about to buy a nintendo console for third party/mobile looking games. Im also not gonna pay more for games i can get on steam on ps4. I keep seeing more and more people saying their switch is just gathering dust and im glad i havent bought one cuz i know the same will happen to me. Also the joycon drift and storage sounds like a hassle.
Love the Switch Lite, bought it for my kid, but when his time's up, i play it a lot at night just before bedtime. Didnt mind the specs cause i not that hardcore gamer (and frankly seeing the sells of this thing we are the majority). Grear review btw!.
Honestly what scares me about the lite, is joycon drift, unlike the regular or oled, its much harder to fix, requiring you even reapply thermal paste if its the left joycon
Thermal paste to the left Joycon? I'm going to have to look that up, because thermal paste on a Joycon doesn't make sense. Without even researching this, I wouldn't recommend it. Is there a video that suggests this?
@@baldlyrudy I think he meant that if you need to fix the left joycon, you'd need to apply thermal paste to the CPU after the repair. Not applying thermal paste to the stick itself.
@@baldlyrudy i meant you need to remove the motherboard, which requires reapplying thermal paste, the right joycon when viewed from the front, (left when you open it) is underneath the motherboard.
@@fryke gooootcha. I mean, if thermal paste isn't a big deal for me, personally. It's just a part of dealing with heat. I'm used to it from when I build PCs.
My Switch lite is my main go to and the OLED switch is at home. Even though the OLED has better battery and screen, the lite is just so much easier to carry around and feels more comfortable to play on. I not worried about stick drift because they are quite cheap and easy to fix.
Had a lite for almost 2 years. Had stick drift but it was somehow fixed by recalibrating the sticks. Then the body of the console somehow got cracked. Finally the screen died in my hands when I was playing Zelda - the screen now is full of vertical lines. Found out this is a common problem with the Lite. Decided that it was not worth getting it fixed, I bought an OLED, which is stupidly heavy to play as a handheld. It does feel like this was Nintendo's plan: make the lite to make people buy the larger version.
Honestly, I went from a switch lite up to an oled. Just that little bit bigger size and much better contrast was it for me. I play exclusively in handheld mode
When the original Lite came out, I switched (hehe) to the Pokemon Sword/Shield edition and loved it. At the time, most games had cloud save so using it as my primary and leaving the OG docked worked. I traveled a lot and carrying a smaller switch just made sense. That said, I missed the easy docking and bigger screen so I switched back 1-2 months later. I recently started playing my Switch again after months of primarily rocking the Steam Deck, and I am appreciating the small form factor of the Lite so much. I tend to carry a console most times I go out, and the Switch Lite fits in my smaller bags. Might have to make this my daily driver for a while
I bought a Lite in August of this year. This is my first switch period. I love it. I use a PlayStation as my home console. I love my lite. I'm glad I got it. Cheap and small.
Lite all the way baby! For typical hardcore gaming I stick with the Series X for the TV, the Lite is the perfect size for a handheld system. Some people complain about it being too small but I honestly think handheld system are getting way too big. The screen is the perfect size and it's slightly bigger than the Vita and even that was a very nice size. The only way I see it being worth getting the larger version is if you use the Switch as your primary gaming console. Even then I feel like you would be missing out because you wouldn't get your really good hardcore console games. The switch is really good for your portable jrpg games. Most of the time I do play with a very high quality Bluetooth speaker, I primarily use the JBL Charge 5. It's an expensive speaker though and can cost as much as the Lite itself.
I upgraded from switch lite to v2 and i dont regret it. I like the og switch better because of the vibration when playing games. But yes its heavier so my hands got tired faster
Seems that way overall. I personally prefer to play on the OLED, but that's just me. The beauty of it is that there are options for all of us to game on whatever we want, but still have a good time.
Back when I was a kid playing the playsation and ps2 I dreamed of being able to play them on the go. I think that was why I usually go for handhelds if there is an option over console.
They should do a Switch Lite OLED model. I never liked the design of the main Switch console with the fragile removable controllers and the ugly docked TV mode. If you already have the current OLED model, the entire reason for owning it is to play it handheld on that beautiful screen. I'd buy an OLED Lite in a heartbeat.
@@baldlyrudy It's why I didn't pick up the OLED model during the Black Friday sales. There will be a new model or maybe even the successor to the Switch next year. My Lite will do me just fine till then.
My partner gave me their late on the occasion of them upgrading to an OLED and its perfect for me. I'm mainly a PC gamer but the lite is fantastic, I can use it in bed, it fits in my jacket pockets and it's perfect for using while travelling or just picking up when I'm just sat on the sofa. I haven't had any drift issues, and it's faired a few bumps and still works just fine. I found it similar to the Original 2DS in that manner, built like little tanks. But overall as someone who wanted to get into the switch but never really had the spare funds available for a full switch, I absolutely love my Lite.
I totally agree with what youre saying. If youre a parent and want so surprise you kids with something id say if theyre 9 or under get them the lite. But i think older kids will appreciate the regular model more. And also older kids can take care of the switch regular more.
Yep! I was able to get a fewof barely used switch lites on Facebook marketplace place for myself and my kids for under $100 each! They love it because they can play our games and have their own game system, and I like it because I restrict the game rating so they play only Rated E games and can control screen time via the switch parental control app :)
i've had my lite for 2 years now, still in pristine condition. never got drift even though i beat the absolute shit out of the sticks when it comes to shooters. i've also never had drift on the standard joycon when it comes to the "full" switch models such as the v2 or the oled. maybe i'm just lucky lol
I have a V2 switch. Never played docked nor tabletop. I have my other consoles for that. I bought a lite last week just for the reason that i love the blue color. It feels more solid, less strain for my hands. Its best to have it in a grip case. Its light. I love it ♥️
I have both, a regular switch and a switch lite and tbh I love the lite so much! It’s so light in the hands and even my boyfriend who’s generally more like bigger = better loves my lite and is thinking about getting one for himself, too. Also, the buttons click nicer imo. Love the lite
I’ve owned the Lite, the V2, and the OLED… the switch lite has been my favorite of the 3. It’s just sturdy and comfortable to hold for longer sessions. I personally don’t use the dock whatsoever, so that’s another reason. Now if there was an OLED Switch Lite…
Yeah. That's true. I mainly have been playing handheld as well. In fact, the only thing I've been playing on my TV is my PS5 and Xbox. I rarely use the dock for the Switch OLED aside from charging it.
I got my lite Switch 2 weeks ago and very happy with it. Why I didn't choose OLED? Because I wanted a light, smaller handheld and for playing on TV I have PS4 and don't need another one. FYI I'm 39 years old woman☺
That's awesome! Glad you got it and are enjoying it. I do gravitate to playing more on my PlayStation 5 on my TV and Switch in handheld. I'd like a Switch Lite OLED at this point. I love my OLED and the way the games just pop.
I have a lite and and oled. I never use my lite. I should also note joycon drift on the lite is only covered under 1 year warranty, after your warranty is up you have to pay $100 to have them repaired by Nintendo. Where as regular joycons can be repaired for free. If you send a special edition joycons in for repair, they will send you a neon red/blue or gray joycon back

I bought the Lite to play Animal Crossing in 2020. As a casual, cozy gamer, I don't see any need to upgrade to an OLED. After holding my coworker's OLED, I do think my Life feels better in my hands.
And that's the big thing, it's all about how YOU want to play. Personally, I still think the OLED is how I'll game. But my wife and son love the Lite.
I’d prefer an oled lite tbh
@@riptaiyo Well yeah, but what kind of world would that be where we'd actually have a dockable OLED Switch Lite! It can never be! :)
@@fryke This is definitely the dream haha
How is fishing without rumble? Seems like a major omission.
The PPI difference has minimal effect on the overall quality of visuals.
@@baldlyrudy Exactly. In comparison, the Lite simply looks extremely washed out. If you have an OLED first, the Lite looks extremely bad.
The bigger screen was nice as well but it still baffles me the Lite didn’t have the ability to output the display via HDMI at the very least.
i guess it would completely take away the point of getting a switch if you can just get a cheaper switch lite to hook up to a tv, also the switch lite is supposed to be completely handheld anyways that was one of the marketing points:)
is it possible to buy a usb c -> hdmi adapter to try and connect it to a tv? or will it just not output at all lol
@@luiss428 nothing will happen
@@luiss428 yeah it just doesn’t have the ability at all, you’d think that would at least a feature 😂
at some point after all the crazy sellouts happened (during which I got my banana lite) I traded my lite in for just the regular switch and love it so much better. I do miss the smaller size for handheld but I much prefer trading that for being able to play with my TV and other people.
I'm an adult and got a switch lite two years ago and until now, i never got joycon drift and i'm playing almost everyday with this useful machine. Hope it ll continue to work well...
That's great to hear. I hope that Nintendo put a little bit more quality into the joysticks on the Lite.
You can always replace the joysticks with Hall effect sticks as well
I very much prefer my new switch lite to my day one Nintendo switch. Newer battery “better” screen (at least in some aspects) and I just like the overall compactness of the lite. Definitely happy with the price point of the lite upgrade.
It definitely has a better feel. The buttons feel way better built compared to normal Joycons.
i do to it is more pordble
That's pretty accurate actually. Going from the OLED to the Switch Lite was a bit of an adjustment, but it's totally good times.
Yuuuuuup. That's what a lot of people that have a Lite are hoping for, it seems. I'd be okay with it.
Like a PS Vita from 2011 .... lol
You nailed it with that comment .
An oled Lite would be wicked cool.
@@Airik1111bibles love my Vita. Ahead of its time for sure
I love my lite but I wouldn't call it the best even if they made an oled simply cuz steam deck exists
What a terrible typo for "like". 😂😂😂
I have an OLED but there’s something cool about holding a tiny switch that can play all the same games.
So cool
Yeah man. Something just feels great playing full fledged games on a small handheld.
Yeah. I agree. The buttons overall are better built. It feels like playing in a pro controller.
my switch lite turned me into a handheld enthusiast! Ordered a steam deck early this year and i love both handhelds 🤩
Oh man! I bought my Steam Deck not that long ago and absolutely love it! That and Steam Cloud are great for gaming on the go!
I really enjoy the Lite, but my son has been hogging it since we got it. 😅
Honestly i have been sleeping in the idea of getting a switch lite for a while and your review just made up my mind. Great and straightforward 👍
Thank you! Glad it could help. 🙌
I bought a yellow Lite on launch day in 2019 and still use it in late 2022. I am currently playing Factorio coop with my friend on PC and loving the experience. Never thought this console would be so awesome many years later.
Heck yeah man. Glad you're having a good time! 🙌
I'm just curious if your switch lite got some drifting issues throughout the span of your usage, does it have any?
@@Flick47 Never had drift and I don’t see many people complaining about it on the Lite. Seems to be more of a regular joy-con issue.
I’ve had a Steam Deck for about a month now and while I absolutely love it, I still occasionally reach for my Switch Lite. I’ve had it for years and still can’t get over how tiny it is. It’s freaking adorable.
Why they haven’t released a switch lite oled model surprises me. I think it would be a good companion system tbh.
You and me both. That could potentially be the next Switch iteration. I love my OLED.
If they did. Wouldn't be surprised if it came out next year
@@Lemonade_Stand_ someone did a test & left the oled on for over a year straight with no burn in.
True. I never actually noticed the different screen size as well
i think at this point they need a new console not more revisions...
Definitely depends on the person of what they prefer! My Bf owns the OLED one since he prefers it to be played on tv and he gets tiring if he holds it for hours. And he was planning to buy me one and I stated I only prefer the lite one since it seems to be fit with me. So excited to receive mine!
Nice! You're going to love it. My wife and son love the Lite.
Two years later and getting slight drift? Are you planning on ever getting it fixed?
The OLED is awesome. You're going to love it.
Oooooooo. Yeah I've seen them online. Never went for it though. Might consider that in the future. Right now, my son is hogging the Switch Lite. 😅
Docked mode is lame, if the system was actually powerful then yeah docked would be sick, id personally rather upgrade to a steam deck
My only fear for buying the Lite is only about joycon drifting, I'm genuinely terrified of that
you can still change them on lite its just a bit hard
Had a lite for about a year now no problems
I’ve found that most games have in the settings to turn off motion controls ,I’ve had no issues playing any games from regular switch to the switch lite.
I highly recommend!
Same! I've been able to play anything on the Switch Lite that I'd play on the regular. Currently grinding my way through Xenoblade Chronicles 2. 😅
My wife loves here Switch Lite. The 3DS was her favorite system and she only really cares about playing on a TV if we are doing something in Co-Op. So for her it's perfect.
My wife loves it too! But overall, our son has been hogging it since we got the Lite. 🤣
Ive bought mine yesterday and so far Im loving it
Hope you're enjoying it! It's it your first Switch?
I'ma buy one right after my winter break for school starts
@@baldlyrudy yes it is. I bought myself a ps4 a few years back and its great however the switch lite is just awesome
I'm 32 yrs old & I own both the V1 Switch & Switch Lite. I love my Switch Lite I game on my Lite most of the time
I can see that. The Lite is definitely the more portable of the two. I'm enjoying my time with it, but my son absolutely loves it.
It's a win win for people that prefer handheld and want to stick to it.
I haven't ever had a gaming system and a few folks recommend the Nintendo Lite, I will be putting money away and hopefully come tax time I can treat myself to some games! Thank you for sharing this video
Thanks for watching and commenting! I hope you enjoy the Lite when you finally get it in your hands.
Hopefully the next Switch fixes the railing system. Rumors point to a magnet system.
That's my thoughts as well. It feels like such a well built handheld in comparison to the other versions of the Switch.
Dude, awesome video!! I love your editing and was curious, what program do you use? And do you edit yourself??
Hey! Thanks! I use Davinci Resolve. And yeah, I edit everything myself. 😅

I have the blue one. Same color as my gameboy color when I was a kid 😁
I think with added grips, the man hand problem will be taken care of.

@@baldlyrudy New to the scene and already crushing it - congrats man!
Thanks dude! Much appreciated.
I don't like eating while gaming. 😬
I'm glad I could help. Thanks for watching and commenting. 🙂
Yeah. I've tried contact cleaner in the past to clean JoyCons, but nothing beats replacing the whole thing.
Glad I was able to help, even if it's a little bit.
Own a switch lite as my primary console. Recently bought a Steam Deck. To be honest this is probably the perfect combo. The ultra portability of the switch lite is great for on the go, while the steam deck is awesome for gaming on the couch.
Yeah dude. The Steam Deck is a beast of a handheld in both size and power. Also, I agree that the Switch Lite is phenomenal in it's portability.
Great video , just bought mine I chose this over the oled version , the lite reminds me of my old game boy advance sp , for the price it’s the best console out
OMG..... Gameboy SP?! Talk about nostalgia. I hope that GB/GBC/Advance games get to NSO soon.
I bought my switch lite before covid. It's 2022, and I haven't updated to the switch v2 or oled. I'm actually enjoying my lite. I got a grip and controller for it, so I'm good.
Yeah. Getting a grip of some kind is a must for me.
I like the lite when I want to play a game fully handheld. It gives me the same vibes as using my 3ds just as a switch. I also have baby hands so it definitely fits better in my hands. Still have the typical switch for ring fit, just dance, animal crossing, and other titles. I just switch between the two 💕
Yeah, with cloud save support, switching from one console to another is a breeze. I hope all future titles support it.
I bought one for this exact reason. I loved the ds and I’ve always been a handheld gamer. So it’s perfect for me!
idk what else u would use a lite for handheld but animal crossing
I just copped a Switch OLED in large part to play Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Found the emulation to be lackluster on my Steam Deck and wasn't keen on being stuck at my desk to play it there.
I'm liking it so far, kids are fond of some of the titles too.
I thought of buying the OLED (I could afford it), but in my case I wouldnt ever play it on TV. I wanted a portable console and the Lite has been perfect for me so far, it's not heavy, the screen feels big and has every practical function needed.

Switch light where your drift is permanent
Its target audience def meant for children and casual players (there was even a sales report last year that said most Switch Lite buyers are women). Hell, even my twin sister who's not a huge gamer bought one solely to play Animal Crossing and Pokemon. Plus the Lite is noticeably way more affordable in a lot of other currencies. In my country just the normal Switch costs as much as a minimum wage, and the Lite is 40% less lol. There's definitely a market for the Lite. It's basically like the 2DS for the 3DS.
Yuuuuuup.
And also woman with smaller hands (like me 😅)
I'm glad the lite is more affordable than the normal switch or oled as well
I got a hacked one to play nothing but JRPGs on the go. Love it
The joysyick drift problem mainly came from the metals loss contact to the board due to many presses on the joystick that progressively separate each other
Yup. Hall Sense seems to be a solution to that problem.
Well worth the $200
The Lite is great! I'm glad you're enjoying it. My son, on particular, loves it.
We need a lite oled. That would be cool
Yes! That would be great. I love how games look on the OLED.
I bought a used lite and haven’t looked back!
The Lite looks like a toy while the OLED looks like a modern piece of tech. I hope we get an OLED Lite that can give us the best of both worlds.
Appearances aren't everything.
The lite has better battery
Better screen

No wobbly joy con's
Yeah lite is Nintendo doing what they do best .
Better screen is 100% subjective. I love the contrast that the OLED provides vs the regular Switch/Lite. The difference in PPI has minimal impact.

Whatever works best for your gaming situation. I travel a lot for my day job, so gaming on the go with the Lite is convenient.
I always wanted to upgrade to OLED, but whenever I go to a shop I just ended up buying new games.😆

I literally bought mine in like November and it's SO GOOD, I use it way more than the OG switch but I'm still glad I have the OG to play games on a larger screen :^)
I think the switch lite is good for someone that doesn’t play games often
Definitely for the cozy and casual gamers out there.
That's awesome! That's actually a perfect example of why some people would prefer the Lite over the regular Switch or the OLED.
I don’t regret getting the switch lite the portable small nature really sold it for me reminded me of the old gameboy era and a good 3rd console with my PlayStation and Xbox
Nah. I regret it either. It's a great handled and it's got plenty of things going for it.
5:09 Bro what imagine in Splatoon you step on the enemy’s ink and you Donny get vibration?
Love the Switch Lite, bought it for my kid, but when his time's up, i play it a lot at night just before bedtime. Didnt mind the specs cause i not that hardcore gamer (and frankly seeing the sells of this thing we are the majority). Grear review btw!.
Thank you! Much appreciated. My son absolutely loves it. I use the Switch OLED over the Lite, but it's still a good time.
Honestly what scares me about the lite, is joycon drift, unlike the regular or oled, its much harder to fix, requiring you even reapply thermal paste if its the left joycon
In developed countries, you have a 2-year warranty at least.
I have a switch v2 that I keep docked; but my primary is a switch lite (it just fits better in my bag). Really love the thing
Yes! The portability and size is perfect for playing on the go.
Wow. I've never heard of that problem before with the screen. I mainly use my OLED, but my son loves the Lite.
Cheap. Small. Accessible. There's absolutely nothing to really complain about at that price point.
My mum bought me the turquoise switch lite for me two weeks ago and it’s my first ever switch :)
Nice! How are you liking it so far?
Good! I can take it wherever I want and don’t have to lug a million things with me :)
Yup. There are handhelds that are out there that are powerful enough to play PS2 and even PS3 games, but they're pricey.
A lot of people are hoping for an OLED Lite. I feel like we're getting something next year. Just not sure what it'll be.
The Lite is great for travel. Absolutely adore mine.
I totally agree with what youre saying. If youre a parent and want so surprise you kids with something id say if theyre 9 or under get them the lite. But i think older kids will appreciate the regular model more. And also older kids can take care of the switch regular more.
Yeah. I guess it depends on the kid's age as well. My son being 7 knows how to handle a Steam Deck and I'm not worried about it.
Yep! I was able to get a fewof barely used switch lites on Facebook marketplace place for myself and my kids for under $100 each! They love it because they can play our games and have their own game system, and I like it because I restrict the game rating so they play only Rated E games and can control screen time via the switch parental control app :)
Yes! The Parental Controls app is great for Switch!
Do you think it’s worth it to purchase refurbished? Thinking of getting one from gamestop
Heck yeah. I'm always down to buy a refurbished one. Go for it.
I bought my Lite at the start of 2022. After for finishing a few games & building a backlog. I now prefer the V2 than the Lite.
I can 100% see that happening with a lot of people.
i've had my lite for 2 years now, still in pristine condition. never got drift even though i beat the absolute shit out of the sticks when it comes to shooters. i've also never had drift on the standard joycon when it comes to the "full" switch models such as the v2 or the oled. maybe i'm just lucky lol
I have a V2 switch. Never played docked nor tabletop. I have my other consoles for that.
I bought a lite last week just for the reason that i love the blue color. It feels more solid, less strain for my hands. Its best to have it in a grip case. Its light. I love it ♥️
Yup. A lot of people recommend the Satisfye grip for the Lite. I haven't gotten one though.
I have both, a regular switch and a switch lite and tbh I love the lite so much! It’s so light in the hands and even my boyfriend who’s generally more like bigger = better loves my lite and is thinking about getting one for himself, too. Also, the buttons click nicer imo. Love the lite
Oh yeah! I totally agree. The buttons just feel like they're better quality than those on the Joycon.
Honestly I'm gonna pick one up just for jrpg games I like to kick back on the bed and enjoy a good story.
Hell yeah! It's a great little handheld.
THAT PART.
Bought this for my 4 year old daughter. I own the oled. I was suprised how much I actually liked the lite when unboxing and playing a bit for her.
Yup. My son has been enjoying it, but I can't say I wasn't impressed.
I'm planning on getting a new one. And this video helped me a lot. Now I'm sure to get one. Thank you for the review and info
Thanks for watching and the comment. Glad I could help out. 🙌
I got the lite last year for Christmas. And I love it.
There's a lot to love about it.
I bought the lite and had it modded. I find the steamdeck to be more comfortable, but the switch lite has its uses portability wise.
Agreed. Its portability is one of the best this generation.
I have a lite and and oled. I never use my lite.
I should also note joycon drift on the lite is only covered under 1 year warranty, after your warranty is up you have to pay $100 to have them repaired by Nintendo. Where as regular joycons can be repaired for free. If you send a special edition joycons in for repair, they will send you a neon red/blue or gray joycon back
Thanks for the heads up.
