DURAN DURAN - 1990 LIBERTY ALBUM REACTION/BREAKDOWN

- Опубликовано: 28 июл 2024
- Welcome back to my channel, where today we're diving into Duran Duran's iconic 1990 album, 'Liberty.' This album marked an important chapter in the band's evolution and showcased their ability to adapt to the changing musical landscape. 'Liberty' surfs the balance between embracing new sounds while keeping their trademark catchy pop hooks afloat.
Released during a period when MTV was starting to favour younger bands, the band faced the challenge of recapturing mainstream attention. Despite this, the album remains a hidden gem in Duran Duran's discography, filled with infectious melodies, vibrant instrumentation, and thought-provoking lyrics. So, let's dive deep and explore 'Liberty,’.
I must admit, this is the most fun I’ve had so far on an album deep dive. Everything from the listen-through to the research I did after the video - I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process. Looking back on this album, I felt like a wide-eyed adventurer, exploring an exhilarating array of rides at a vibrant carnival…but the adventure isn’t over yet.

These two videos perfectly capture the imagery I get from ‘My Antarctica’ ruclips.net/video/bL7dgqKfGh8/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/-SMKVJO_wGo/видео.html. Just nature in all its beauty. 🥰
The guitar you mention for the Track Liberty reminds me of Be Still My Beating Herat by Sting. Was that what you were referring to?
I hope you really like “Serious” it’s my wedding song. 🎶 ❤
That was wonderful!!!!
This was such an underrated album. They never even toured on it either. I think this is a fantastic Duran Duran album. I absolutely love liberty.
The first 4 songs are great and the best song is "Serious" When they were compiling greatest hits in 1998, the fans voted for Serious to be on that album and it was added.
Serous was a hit in Japan. High in the charts. So makes sense it would be on greatest hits. 😉
My top five álbum liberty
1 - My antarctica
2- Serious
3 - Liberty
4 - Violence of Summer
5 - Venice Drowning
Duran Duran forever !! Rio de Janeiro Brazil .
It isn’t “China,” but rather “Chyna” - it is the name of the woman around whom the song’s story revolves.
Serious and My Antartica are two of DD's greatest 'sad' songs…Just gorgeous.
Hi Kitty!! Great album in my opinion but it was bumped. Playful songs like "Violence" "Liberty" "Hothead" and beautiful songs like "My Antartica" and definitely my fav is "Serious" so underrated, they played it on the DD MTV unplugged show. Yes it has that 90's vibe like George Michael sound, dancy pianos and percussions, it was the house, rap, hip-hop and grunge time on MTV and radio. Genius synths of Nick and rocker guitars from Warren. Interesting lyrics by Simon, great vocals. Cool bass lines by Mr Taylor.
Yeah definitely hearing that influence of some of the genres that were at the forefront of the early 90s.
I have always loved first impression with its attitude and the guitar going crazy in the outro. Serious is the first song I learnt to play on bass, it’s a simple one but really nice. John Taylor was my inspiration
The lack of popularity of this album, under-rated and understated. All the DD magic is in the right places for this one. Without Liberty, we would never have 'The Wedding Album.'
Without both, we'd have had two less incredibly shitty DD albums.
On my personal Top 5 DD albums, so so so nderrated, almost every DD fan hates Liberty or just ignore it, but 4 me is a very strong album, and "My Antarctica", "Serious", "Downtown", and the title track are so wonderful songs... So great you react to this, thank you!!!
I'm a "Duranie" and i totally agree very much underatted,if you read my comment posted above you would see it's among my top 3.
This album has always been in my top Duran Duran favourites. There is just so much that I love in these songs.
In Australia at this time Duran Duran faced the backlash of being branded as too commercial and pop and also ignoring the market by not touring any of the albums after Seven and the Ragged Tiger.
Violence of Summer managed a fairly good position in the Aria chart despite the neglectful attitude the record company had adopted toward them. I think if Duran Duran had come back and toured they may have been able to preserve a larger audience but unfortunately they waited 20 years before a tour took place in 2003 (thanks to Robbie Williams).
@@fionamcgrath8982 I agree, I wish they had done a tour to present it, it probably would have done better than it did... And people would have realized how good the album was.
Serious is a seriously brilliant song 👌👌
Top 3 tracks for me: My Antarctica, Serious and First Impression
I second that!
Liberty, My Antarctica, Venice Drowning
Yep, Serious and My Antarctica should have dictated the soundscape in my opinion. The rest is patchy, overproduced and somewhat directionless like a lot of big names from the 80s were in the early 90s and in contrast to other scenes like Grunge that were gaining popularity at the time (exceptions being releases like 'Violator' by Depeche Mode whose excesses were yet to catch up with them).
The fact you love these tracks says (IMVHO) so much about your sensitivity for music…G 🥺🤗 #SoGorgeous …FYI I pre-ordered this album on CD… I agree, 'My Antartica' truly IS one of their 'best ever songs'. 😔
Nice album!, I'm okey with the mix was perfect for the 90'
There is so much to love about this album, not least of which is the fact that every single song sounds completely different from each other. Albums usually have a 'flavour' or 'theme' that runs throughout but every track on this one could have come from a different album. It also begins to showcase more of the superb work that Warren is capable of including some great subtle touches that I really miss. The album was also produced/engineered by Chris Kimsey who is most notable for the work he did with The Rolling Stones.
Agree that they should have released My Antartica as the first single. The most impactful song in this album, by far...
I agree, it's a better song than Violence of Summer, but would it have sold better or led non-fans to buy the album? VoS came out in late July, so I don't think we can fault the label for thinking this might be the best shot at a summer hit the album had to offer...
Apparently it was a summer hit in Argentina!
Venice drowning is fantastic
Said it all My Antarctica ended up being my favorite from Liberty along with Serious.
'My Antarctica' is quite simply, sublime.
I always added 'Winter Marches On' from 'Notorious' next to it when creating my playlists.
It's such a joy to see Liberty being reappraised and given the love it deserves. I pick up a lot of social commentary on this album. I think the USA and all its thrills and pathologies had by this point had a significant influence on the band (especially Simon.)
It's the Rockiest DD record in my view. Warren C was laying down his lead guitar vision at full pelt and although that did work on Liberty in context, it definitely did not always feel organic and natural for the band itself. I think this bothered a lot of fans at the time.
Some outstanding tracks here but perhaps the whole effect not as cohesive as Big Thing. So again, it felt like a come down to many. Just a thought.
Notable mention must go to some of Simon's incredible lyrics, for example on "Venice Drowning":
"...Venice breeding
Shy chimeras of sex and violence
In the purple evening silence
Venice dreaming of a partner
Fill you arms with breasts of marble
From the cradle to the table
Coax this naked treasure
From your saviour
Come swim into my love
Come swim into my life
Divine blasphemer
Tempting holy beads of jism
With the scarlet catechism
Her lips will answer
(Oh, her lips will answer)..."
I mean, WOW! 😁
He's a very gifted songwriter!
The lyrics in that song really take me back to his early creativity and delicious imagery. Just one of the reasons why I love Duran's music so much.
This is a very underrated album.
All along the water was the Rio of the 90`s.
So I hear there is a Gorilla box set that was released for this album. ‘Gorilla’ I believe is reference to the big gorilla on the reverse cover of the album. I didn’t mention in the video that this is one of my favourite Duran album artworks so far. It has this Carnival/Vaudeville aesthetic to it and I love it!
Yeah. I saw that somewhere. The only place I have seen it might have been on EIL.
Yes I have the GORILLA box set which has cd and cassette inside. And I have the Japanese cd box set with nice booklet, additional band stickers and an extra bonus 3"cd disc. Plus I have all the 12" Vinyl and album on vinyl. LIBERTY is one of most fav DURAN DURAN albums ever! I think of it as a superb middle of a trilogy BIG THING / LIBERTY / THE WEDDING ALBUM. Give it a listen as a trilogy. It's brilliant
Not long ago I started my chronological journey through Duran Duran's catalogue and after hearing all the criticism this album endured I had this nagging feeling that I would spend much time with it just trying to come to grips with what it had to offer. Lo and behold, it quite instantly became a favourite.
Love the diversity, the experimentation and the sazzy attitude.
My Antartica should have been released as a single, one of their best love songs ever. Downtowns feels like a dirty revamp/follow up to the of The Chauffeur. The energy All Along the Water delivers could set a dancefloor on fire. Simon's vocals on Can You Deal With It are ridicilously intense. The pre-chorus of Liberty sounds like everything Duran Duran condensed to some few seconds, so much soul. Oh, and the pads making The Violence of Summer sound like a heatwave getting out of hand leaves the track with an almost sinister feel.
While the tracks differ in sound and style, the production manages to bring them all together to form a cohesive body of work unlike the follow-up which goes in all possible directions seemingly without a thought... even managing at times to sound like it is delivering leftovers from the Liberty sessions (much like Super in relation to Electric when talking about the Pet Shop Boys) or simply reprising a song in a new fashion (All Along the Water / Drowning Man, Hothead / Sin of the City)
But, yeah... I do love both Liberty and "The Wedding Album". They feel so interconnected that I look upon them as both part of the same entity.
The song, FIRST IMPRESSION definitely has the best guitar solo in Duran Duran's entire discography.
I don't normally think of Duran Duran and guitar solos, but this happens to one of my favorite guitar solos of all time. I drove an Eagle Talon TSI Turbo 5 speed in high school, and nothing gave me greater joy than to fly through the gears right when this song takes off. I rediscovered the song in 2016 ... so basically I had completely forgotten First Impressions for close to 2 decades. After listening to it once, I decided to never again listen to song until I was able to buy another manual transmission sports car. I recently bought an Accura Integra Type S... it was so lovely recreating that feeling after all these years. What a song!
Definitely one of the more underrated album. Although the album didn’t gain popularity, songs like Serious, My Antarctica, Liberty, Violence of Summer and Downtown are catchy and great to listen to❤
👏👏👏 Bravo!!! I totally agree with you. Unfortunately the never play this album at all live nowadays. My Antarctica, Liberty and Hothead. I wanna see them live!!!
Hello sweet heart ❤️❤️❤️ how's you!!! I luv this album favourite track is read my lips 👄👄👄 this album was No1 in Argentina for over 3 months and the band didn't even now as I watched a interview with John Taylor about nearly 2 years ago on you tube what a joke the record company never told um!!! I've got this album on vinyl signed by nick Simon John Warren I won it on a competition from smash hits it's still 100 percent in brilliant condition 🎉🎉🎉so thx for doin this album like I say luv it and it was underrated they should av toured with it but never did a shame!!!! Llluuvvlllyyy seeing you keep up the good work 🎉🎉🎉x
Downtown and First impression (live version) with an extraordinary Warren Cuccurullo (Italian blood) my fav
I love Liberty. It’s very experimental and definitely takes the listener on a musical journey. Serious is a classic! A track called Yo Bad Azizi was a B-side to serious and plays on the line from - IsThere Something I Should Know, “you’re about as easy as a Nuclear War”!
This is one of my fav duran albums but highly underrated.
Girl you are spot on with Palamino and My Antartica - so insanely beautiful and hits you in the feels
Thank you very much, I thought I was the only one in the world who loved this album so much with its magnificent songs. I don't understand why it was so shunned when it came out. Over time, it is the Duran Duran album that best crosses the ages. And that's a very good sign. Merci Beaucoup !
Robert Palmer was the lead singer in The Power station, 2 of their singles were Some like it hot and Get it on .
John Taylor and Andy Taylor were also in the power station.
Hi! I really love this album, and your review is amazing.😊
Thank you so much!
Warren is so good. I really miss him.
Love your enthusiasm and smile and love for all the little details of the lyrics and songs .
First Impression is my favorite song on this album. It's so rocking! I think it is about John Taylor and his starting the band. Because Simon names Johnny in the backstreets of the UK.
That makes sense! ‘First Impression’ is such a jam.
Back in 1990 I think the critics said that this was the worst album they've ever made I don't think so this is one of my top three favorite albums by my favorite band
they never stopped big thing and liberty are some of their best work.
Another great album from DD. My faves are Violence of Summer, Liberty & Serious. LOVE IT!
They should`ve released my antarctica as the first single and then serious.
The only tracks I listen to on this are "Violence", "Liberty", "Serious", "Antarctica", "Venice", and "Downtown". "Hothead" was a disaster.
I just love your reviews from all albums....this is in my opinion really fantastic. Greets from germany....your reactions are so lovely ! 💖 My favourites on this album are "Serious" and the title track "Liberty".
Thank you Holger. Greetings to you in Germany 🤗
This takes me back, great times.. an underrated album then but of its time, shame they didn’t tour it. Still one of my favourites then and now. Great review Kitty ❤
Thank you Mark!
This Album in my view, was a reach out just for the USA..
Totally agree
Congratulations 😊😊😊😊😊😊
The guitar on the song Liberty reminds me of the guitar on Arcadia's the Promise, which had Sting on backing vocals and David Gilmour on guitar.
'Serious' is up there with one of DD's best (and most beautiful) songs they ever recorded.…Just transcendentally beautful, 34 years later. #Underrated
I've been super-excited for you to get to this one...I've always been a huge super proponent of this album (Duranie since '81), it's my all-time D2 fave despite the overall fan hate (although I am surprised by the love in your comments, glad I'm not the only one). Serious is my absolute favorite Duran song and it's the one I play when I'm in a "mood" (and I continue to play on constant repeat no matter how long that mood lasts, whether it be minutes, hours, days, weeks, or months). But having said all that, after listening to you break it down song by song, I really only love about a third to half of the album (Violence of Summer, Liberty, Serious and My Antartica). Those four just carry the rest of the album for me and I never really realized it. I do typically skip over the other songs.
On the plus side, the B-sides and demos (LOVE the Story Version of Violence of Summer) are enough to more than make up for the lagging other songs, so I'm still gonna keep this at #1 for me, probably out of nostalgia sake, at least for now.
Thank you for this by the way!
For sure! I think that’s why Medazzaland was always my favourite growing up. Although, a lot of fans may say it was one of their weaker albums, there’s a lot of nostalgia and emotion tied to it for me personally. As for Liberty, it had the potential to be a strong album - there was just a lack of structure, flow and direction. Song after song, you don’t know what you’re gonna get. ❤️
Hi, great video once again. My favourite on the album, and one of my favourite songs of Duran Duran is Serious. BTW, the B side of Violence of Summer was 'Throb' and the B side of Serious was 'Yo Bad Azizi'
'Yo Bad Azizi' being a particular crime against music (the title being a p*sstake of the line 'You're about as easy as a nuclear war' from 'Is There Something I Should Know?') ;-)
Serious my favorite song on this album and so many memories with it. Was 18 then.
Hi this Brooke a bassist from Sydney, love the album reviews. Agree 100% My Antarctica is brilliant, and should be been released as a single.
Violence of summer video is what you describe 😂🤷🏼
Haha I need to watch it then!
Just want to say I appreciate your take on duran durans discography. As a guy I caught alot of flack when I was younger for enjoying this music. Just ignorance 🙄 now they are much more respected as great musicians. Thats all because their music stood the test of time.
Agreed! Ignorance… Now look at them!
I think the reason so many dismiss this record is it signals their departure from the Chic, funk-inspired end of their sound in favor of the more alternately aching or breezy contemporary pop that prefaced Ordinary World, Come Undone or Too Much Information. Yet, the record was also marketed very poorly with some odd single selections. Play My Antarctica for someone who loves Ordinary World and most will be perplexed how they missed it. There are a lot of good moments here, otherwise, even if this direction didn't crystalize until the Wedding Album (just as an aside, TWA actually more uneven than Liberty is with perhaps higher highs but less consistent imo)
I've been a Duranie from the get go and I love every single one of their albums, the first 3 of course being my absolutes, but then when Warren stepped into the picture he really was the perfect fit for someone to step in and take over the GIGANTIC shoes Andy left behind. This album is just one of those albums that still sounds so fresh and innovative in their catalog even above Medazzaland, which I love but can never really listen to all the way through. It's such a bummer that because this album charted terribly they were so dismissive of it (the band) at least that's the impression I get from their interviews. This album is classic Duran with a little Missing Persons and the coming of the 90's house grooves and fashions. I really hope this album gets a proper re-release. This album is A+++, Warren and the boys SLAYED!!!! RE-ISSUE PLEASE!!!! One more thing, Nick's synth layering on My Antartica is next level!!!
Simon has a more aggressive, gritty sound to his voice on Violence of Summer that we really never heard again. I think that particular track is very Roxy Music
glad i got to watch this on Nick Rhodes birthday.
I❤ Liberty
My favorite Liberty tracks:
• My Antarctica
• First Impression
• Serious
• Downtown
I listened to several Liberty demo tracks and I found one of them interesting because of the sound effects and how each one sounds, they should have finished it but I think one of them is incredible, like Bootleneck, Dream Nation, Nuclear War, Only From Me and so on.
No Offense to Andy, but Warren is the BEST Guitarist to ever play with Duran. I Enjoyed him since he played with Missing Persons in an All-Star Lineup. Every album he was on, he meshed Perfectly with the band.
It maybe right…Or it may be wrong?…………Just gorgeous…Pre-ordered this album as an 18-year-old…One of my favourites to this day. 😢
I LOVE LIBERTY. MY ANTARCTICA IS FABULOUS. BEAUTIFUL. SERIOUS TOO. I BUYED THIS ALBUM IN 1990 IN COPACABANA RIO DE JANEIRO.
YES!! I'm a massive Duran fan. I've recently stumbled across your channel and started watching them and absolutely love them and the passion you have and enjoyment from listening to such a variety of sounds through one album!! It reminds me of my reactions😂After watching, I'd argue Liberty is one of my favourite, if not my favourite DD album. First Impression is my favourite song - not sure of reasons. I think it is because of the amount of energy! Like you've said in the video Simon's vocal potential is totally let loose in this album too. Unfortunately I can understand why Downtown is not popular I'm really not keen on this, and is one of the only songs I usually skip when listening to an album...so glad it's at the end! Other than that I think this album and a lot of songs on it, like Serious, My Antarctica, First Impression and Venice Drowning, are seriously underrated. Maybe one reason I love the album so much is because like you say you feel as if you are being taken on an adventure so I suppose for me it is a slight escape from reality!! Awesome videos. Can't wait to watch more and gutted I've only just this week found your channel.
Thank you so much for your support and kind words! It's so cool to connect with fellow Duran Duran fans. Liberty is a unique album, and it's so cool to hear your thoughts on your favorite tracks from it!
Every track is fabulous! ☄️☄️
Love how you dive into each song! Read My Lips has a Nine Inch Nails feel to it. Also, the Sting that Liberty reminds me of 'Nothing by the Sun' album. IMHO Venice Drowning has similar layering to Union of the Snake (the guitars specifically). I think this is the album where Warren took the reins of the guitar alpha - I think that had a big influence on the sound.
One thing I will say is that the album Liberty is an album that was criminally underrated. It has 2 tracks that I loved (Serious, My Antarctica "my predilets") also Liberty had a lot of interesting demos like Bootleneck and there are others that I liked and others that I didn't. Although the band was dealing with a huge drop in record labels, albums and tours in the early 90s. But thanks to the Wedding Album that was an incredible success with Ordinary World and Come Undone and which still saved the band.
I really wish they had done more with My Antarctica. Such a great song.
@@glitterkittyReally. This song is so beautiful that I listen to it all the time, it should have been given more attention and gone into more depth. It would even be better playing live. My Antarctica is wonderful along with First Impression and Serious.
Downtown for me is the best song on album. Dirty and filthy.
Great stuff, I dig Duran Duran, just discovered your channel and subbed you up. I mainly talk rock vinyl on my channel but I enjoy all types of music, thanks for sharing the cool music info. Peace!
Hey Mike! Thanks for subscribing. Just had a look through your channel. LOVE your vinyl collection - will hit you back with a sub. All the best!
@@glitterkitty Thank you, have a great week!
I've been waiting for you to review this one.....It's one of 3 of my fave Albums Astronaut and Notorious being the other two.
It was so much fun listening to it. What a ride!
@@glitterkitty Simons vocal is crystal clear on this Album...That's not to say it isn't ordinarily it just seems more audible if that makes sense.
omg... I was going to bed.... But No.... Just saw you online... Love it..
Definitely underrated album, kinda like Pop Trash in that it featured some really good songs but no cohesion so speak of. Never understood the vitriol against it.
you made a fresh, relevant and funny presentation of "liberty". For information, I have the "liberty" box, it includes the cassette and the cd of the album. cage-shaped box. I am lucky to have this box signed by the band. Keep up your shows, they are really good!!!
Thank you Arnaud! Really cool that you have the Gorilla Box Set.
Simon looks amazing in this video!
Thank You for this. I wanted to re-listen to the album, and see what you thought. You reminded me that even the weakest Duran Duran album is pretty decent.
I like their music
When I heard the single "Violence of Summer" it was love at first sight. I thought it's the voice of the Simon sound hoarse but at the same time it's strange it doesn't sound like the usual music style. However, I loved the music. I loved the single "Serious" to. I really feel sorry for these songs being forgotten at concerts and didn´t understand why they werent hit on the tops on first positions.
Duran Duran 👍❤🎶🎸
Power to be different !
That's the model of DD work.
Every album different image, different music, different story...
That's the way ,life should be...
Unfortunately this album was released in the middle of the band crisis and didn't sell a lot. On the other hand it had pure gems, like My Antarctica ("And you will stay here with me": real chills, very Arcadian ❤) and Serious. How I wish they had been on a tour and I had listened to both the songs. Maybe time will give it the deserved appreciation and credits. My Italian side is very proud of the lines in "Venice drowning" 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
Listening back to My Antarctica you really do get that flavour of Arcadia! Also Venice Drowning to me is a very fun and adventurous song. ❤️
I appreciate you you being fair and admiring there is a lot to enjoy on this album….. I would love after you review all the albums for you to do a complete ranking…. That would be awesome….. this was the review I was waiting on…. I’m curious about what you think about The Wedding Album because I love it but it is a mess…. So I’m intrigued to hear your favorites on that one
Thank you Ricky! That’s actually a great idea and something I can look at doing once I’ve reached the end of the series.
Duran Duran é fantastico
I remember buying Liberty on the first day of it's release way back in August 1990. Loved the B-side to Serious called Yo Bad Azizi, that song really rocked, it also featured a sample with Marilyn Monroe singing happy birthday to President John F. Kennedy (at the beginning of the track). Cool video. 🙂
Need to add this to the B-Side video! Thanks Paul
An album of eclectic songs but some gems in there 👍👍
Serious is my favorite on this album
We were trying to tell you, G!
Funny. Your use of the word "reckon" in that context. In the US, that is a typically "Southern/Archaic" thing. It's fun hearing it used in the same way that I would use it, by someone who is so much younger than me. BTW, Props for knowing the Petula Clark song.
Thank you Vlad! All the best to you 😊
Greetings! This is my less favourite album from DD. It's the absolute switch of direction in the music style, despite a few great songs like My ANtarctica, Serious or even Liberty. Here in POrtugal, the single Serious didn't even came to life. I remember reading that the album was made-up in a few studio sessions, right after a tour. Which means that the energy brought from the tour was present in the studio sessions, as i think is noted. IN the album, Warren Cucurrullo and Sterling Campbell are credited as official part of the band. Well, Warren kept the place for the next few albuns until the reunion of the original band's line-up. Things were a little difficult from the band those days, and three years would pass until the next release.
Power Station who sang “Get It On/Bang A Gong” had John and Andy Taylor in it. 💜
Enjoyable review Gk, the album is very dislocated with magic moments not alot of people know there was 2 other tracks written for liberty not the demos on aint nobody but 2 which were far and wide from the sound of liberty but never heard by fans, 1 darktanion was a frenchie, 2 amazon rain forest saga but there you go maybe see the light if a archive vault opens ✌
Ooh that’s interesting Paul!
Hoping you continue through their discography. Particularly looking forward to Red Carpet Massacre and Pop Trash.
the best album of all time will always be seven and the ragged tiger and the wedding album
the boys are on tour right this minute check them out next stop ft lauderdale 06.16.2023 future past tour continues
More Duran albums please ❤
They’re coming! 🙏🏻
Thank you :))
Serious is a fan favorite, especially the video. My Antarctica is my other favorite on the album.
I didn't appreciate First Impression until I heard it live in '93 in San Jose.
The first time I saw Duran live was in Minneapolis in Jan. 1994 on the "No Oridnary tour" for the "Wedding" album and they played Serious and First Impression that night!
Oooh I'd like to see First Impression live!
Your coments alwsays excelent!!
I can't wait your review of The Wedding Album. Maybe could be two parts beacause is a great album.
Can't tell you how excited I am for it!
@@glitterkitty the idea of a great band recording in the house of the guitarist as an improvised studio and later sold millons of copies is epic!
There are a few good songs from this album!
My favorites are:
Serious
First Impression
All Along the Water
Liberty
Violence of Summer
My Antarctica
Liberty is my favorite album by my favorite band dd .Liberty now is out of print on vinyl but if I ever come across a copy on vinyl I'll send it out to you.
Thank you Carlos, that is very generous of you! I think I might have successfully tracked down a copy though, we’ll see 😉
Okay 👌 @@glitterkitty
Hi Glitter! I'm just discovering your channel today. It's very interesting you're dedicating a hugh amount of time to the DD albums. It'll take a while to transit over each one but I think it's a very enjoyable journey. I respect opinions, personally I think the album is a flop in its own right due to several factors acknowleged by the band. But It was produced nicely. Serious had to be the 1st single instead of "Violence of Summer" and the guys don't play it live even though it's maybe the best song of the album and still sounds great after 33 years! "My Antarctica" deserved broadcasting and maybe "The Last and First Impression" too. Some other songs sound....at least not like the Duran Duran we knew at the time. In a nutshell it's a transitional work of a band that was in transition with two new members...and Sterling going away too soon, evidently dissapointed. But somehow they survived and later they tackled the amazing Wedding Album project in a memorable way. Thanks for reviewing it song by song, I can barely do that on my own but going along with you is fun definetly!!
Thank you for the comment Octavio! It's been a very exciting journey so far. Liberty definitely wasn't a strong one for me personally but I enjoyed the adventure it took me on. I find they always manage to create something wonderful even during a period of transition. I also agree 'First Impression' and 'My Antarctica' deserved their time in the spotlight.
My Antarctica and Serious were worth the $16 I paid for this CD!
I don't think this album is the worst i think that may be your next review "Thank you" an album of covers. Yes agree my Antartica & Serious are highlights. You have some great albums to look forward to as you work to the present day. Keep up the good work i am enjoying all this from my home in France. Your voice is very good Robert 😀

@@glitterkitty it has some shockers!! But to be fair as with most DD albums some exceptions but i will not spoil the fun x
