Its coming up on car vertical as Cat S (Previously Sunk). 😂 Great video guys.
Nice one lol.
They started out a long time ago as a CJR14 14ft cathedral hull boat, and there was at one point way back in the day when a fibreglass firm in Southport would lend you a mould to make your own if you bought all the fibreglass supplies from them then roughly mid nineties Poolside Mouldings AKA Seahog Boats based in Freckleton Lancashire started making them again and calling them i think it was from memory called a Seahog trio, the maximum engine size is normally 30hp but i've personally seen them with up to 55hp outboards on . They run well with a 30hp prop rated motor, the Mariner 30hp you have there is a re badged Yamaha 30hp Mariner so it's a really reliable motor . Mariner being owned by Brunswick marine that also made Mercury outboards the Mariner range used to be older model yamaha's up to 60hp and Mercury models painted grey and badged Mariner above 60hp altho that did alter and some of the 40hp to 60hp models were also Mercury engines but they did some 50hp 3 cylinder Merc / Mariners the list is more extensive than that but that gives you a little insight. Mariner were a means for Brunswick to have a mid market brand as well as their premium product of Mercury , some motors you could actually scrape the grey off and reveal the Phantom black of mercury especially on lower units(gearbox bottom section) where they had taken parts off one production line to complete other motors ,,,, a little bit of my background I used to be in the marine trade selling and servicing Yamaha Suzuki and Mercury outboards etc for almost 20 years
I bet that was once Bullys special prize on Bullseye! 😂
I spent every weekend as a kid in the 80s/90s at Wateringbury where Portguide Marine sold these. I'm still mates with their son, we used to mess about on boats all day long. This is the Seahog Trio, a licensed copy of a CJR. Very good boat.
Chris smiles like the Cheshire Cat when he see's lawn mowers and boats!
I seen Chris and he react to seeing a purchase made by Rob with astonishment, suprise, even can I say bafflement, but never have I seen Chris smile so much after after seeing this boat. Good on ya Chris.
The boat you have there is a 14ft CJR Cathedral Dory, nice find 👍
Love the car content, but also love seeing something different on the channel. This was a great video. Really interesting to see the mechanical side of this. Really looking forward to the clean up video, and to see this back to its glory. The smiles on both your faces says it all with how much you are enjoying yourselves. Can’t wait for the next videos on this
Second best day of your life when you buy a boat ! The best day is when you sell the bloody thing :+)
🤣
A boat is hole in the water into which you throw money.
Exactly. From a former boat owner.
Not on a cheap old boat like this
"What happens when it rains?" (JKJ)
It’s cjr 14 sea hog, nice boat. Very stable with the cathedral hull. Enjoy !!
Love it boys , can't wait to see the sea trials around Sheppy , no trying to water ski behind it Rob 🤣 you both have that kid with a new toy look in your eyes , so I bet there will be a few laughs in store , great video again lads keep em coming .
The days that Chris has a grin like a Cheshire Cat from the start are always a good watch 😁👍 it never gets old but you can't beat that clip of you on the toilet in the workers van 🤣🤣
I remember Rob going out on the jet ski and the smile on his face. Of course we want to see Chris out on it.
Love it! It's great to see a boat on the channel. I can't wait to see it cleaned up. I for one, definitely want to see you do sea trials in it, especially if you both wear captains caps! 😁
Just love your excitement. Both of you work so hard, it’s nice to see you enjoy a bit of “you” time. We all see your passion for what you do everyday for work, but it’s brilliant to see you do something for when your not working.
Looking forward to the next video.
I'm with you, can't wait till the clean up, I bet it will transform it. I love the switching between vehicles keeps your videos fresh not knowing what's round the corner and love both of you smiling faces with this one!
Always loved the diversity of this channel. Nice to see you guys enthusiastic and eager looking forward to the future content!
Great video rob and Chris what a great change of content and really looking forward to seeing the next vid and then sea trials, great to see how enthusiastic as usual you both are on having a boat on the channel, as said great content
The grin on your face Rob says it all, you could hardly keep your excitement contained. Your joy is infectious, I just had to smile along with you. Great vid as always lads.
Doesn’t get any better for you guys. Earning whilst thoroughly enjoying yourselves. Looking forward to the rest of this project.
Hi Chris / Rob ... When you order the Carb kit .. Also order a fuel pump kit as well .... You may even need a new fuel filter housing complete, as they tend to shatter when you remove the plastic bowl ....Keep up the good work .. Andy
Check the water pump impeller chaps , made from rubber they perish and break up if stood for a while, the first sign is the water squirt from the engine should be a constant line -yours is spitting.
When they disintegrate the engine over heats giving an audible signal in the control lever box. Have fun guys- we did with our boats👍
Made me smile early in the video when you both looked skyward, i thought to myself "I see no ships, only hard ships" !!! loving this video guys great little boat enjoy it.
Great find and nice to see something different on the channel. She sounds good can’t wait to see it cleaned up and back on the water soon. Thanks for taking us along take care
Great fun this one. Great to see you both enjoying yourselves.
Love the variety of stuff on your channel. Looking forward to seeing the boat in all its shiny glory 👍
Hey fellas, great buy!. I honestly have owned 5 of those Tohatsu/ merc/mariner 30hp engines since the 80s and in both commercial and private situations and they are honestly bulletproof. The only issue we had ever was that if you hit sand the tell-tale would block up but it wouldn't hinder the cooling. I used to take the little nozzle off mine and drill it to 4mm and that made a huge difference in it blocking up. Apart from that i broke a ball end on the advance linkage once and apart from regular services that was it. We used to fish the great barrier reef 100miles off the coast and used them for our dorys and felt safe every day out there. I hope you gain the love for them that i have. Happy fishing!
Brilliant! Lovely to see the genuine passion and determination to get it going, and yet another example of the thought and effort behind putting out an interesting variety of videos for us.
I was born in 72, and at the time my father and his parents had a boatyard providing pleasure cruisers on the River Yare (Brundall). My wonderful grandfather used to let me drive the boats when I was 3 or 4 years old. At the same time, he also used to sit me on his lap and let me steer his old green Mini pickup on the surrounding country lanes. In 2018, I quit being an HGV driver after 28 years (long story, but don't miss it). At 4 years old I already had an inkling that my post school career would involve a steering wheel..... Thanks Grandad!😁😉 Ironically, I prefer me feet to be on terra firma these days though!
Thanks for stirring the nostalgia lads, can't wait to see what you decide to do with it.
Well Rob and Chris I had a sinking feeling when I first saw it. Thought you had bought a non runner. I can (sea) see that you have propelled yourselves into boats now and glad you have not rocked the boat in this one. She looked fab under the engine cover and sounded solid. Glad you are not skimming on the carb and getting a repair kit for it. Should be plain sailing once cleaned up. Don’t go overboard on the spend😂 and should catch you a nice profit.
Boys, I recommend you change the water pump impeller before taking her out. They will work for a few minutes but under pressure they fall apart. Second, check the lower unit oil before going out. When a boat sits for a long period of time rubber gets hard and breaks easy. If she has no oil the lower unit will fail leaving you out in the water. Just a lesson I learned the hard way. Be well.
Did exactly the same early this year with a similar boat that had sat for many years and sold off cheap.Similar problems to yours, but compression still good and now running well after problems with mercury switch and emergency cut out. Now on a mooring at queenborough.Happy to help with sea trials as back up if that's where you are launching. Ours needed gear box oil filled from the bottom, and interesting idea! 14ft = 4.9 meters
Guys, at 24:52 I am truly grinning from ear to ear at Rob's enthusiasm of you two doing 'sea trials' on the Swale. You're definitely a couple of big kids, and more power to you for it. Well done, and good luck.
Regards Mark in the UK
That looks like a CJR dory boys. If you bend the reed valve stops on that engine out a bit, you will turn it into a 40 HP It's a rebadged Yamaha.
When you get it cleaned off buy some Owatrol polytrol colour restorer £31 ebay will bring colour back no problem. I use it on grp caravan panels. Brilliant
What a brilliant, interesting thing! Glad it runs that made me happy because I know you’re going to have it on the channel and get it going on the water. Definitely my cup of tea I’m not particularly interested in boats I know nothing about them but it’s very interesting! Looks like it will clean up so well.
Yes,yes, yes, about time a boat, Rob &Chris do this boat 100% and keep it for the two of you to have the odd Sunday afternoon out fishing or having fun on the water ......👍👍👍👍😁
Captain Pugwash and Seaman Stains to the rescue 🤣🤣🤣🇬🇧👍🤣🇬🇧👍
Can’t wait to see the look on the faces of the car wash boys when you turn up with that 😂
another cracking video guys just goes to show you guys will buy anything which is good for the channel as nothing puts you guys off can't wait to see the end result as I'm sure that will clean up nicely keep them coming 👍👍👍💯💯💯💯
Rob and Chris a Cjr 14, mariner 30 2 stroke , 50-1 mix , give bill higham marine a call for a genuine service kit for the carb , done many of these engines run it on e5 though .. love the content and hope this comment helps . I have a few boats, hundreds over the years , and all been restored from wrecks , much experience if you need any help .. take care guys .
Just a bit of advice, make sure you change the impeller & gear box oil, before your maiden voyage !!! Great content love the enthusiasm.
Impellor is a must.
And get a radio and let the Coast Guard know your voyage plan.
Otherwise you might meet some of my RNLI mates...... :-)
Rob remember to do your boat vertical check haha love the video
Hi Rob and Chris, love it, looking forward to watching this transform.! Alex.
Anything with an engine!! Nothing wrong with a boat. Cannot wait for the clean up video. To see you two smiling was worth more than whatever it cost!! Excellent.
Chris will be up in the morning and will dig himself a lake 😂
Yes of course we want to see sea trials! Brilliant Video thanks guys
Who can't love a boat there great fun and that's a cracking boat Rob, well done Chris for fixing the outboard they can be a pain to fix, can't wait for the finished results and videos of it in the water
Love the video, never seen Chris so happy. I’m not sure if anyone else has mentioned it. Before taking it out on the water I would strongly suggest replacing the impeller. This is a paddle wheel like device that pumps water up to the motor for cooling. It’s made of a flexible material and if that motor hasn’t been run in some time it may well have perished. You might get it out on the water the and then the “paddles” might break off, no cooling, seized motor. It’s a cheap and easy fix, you’ll find plenty of RUclips videos showing how to replace. Aaarrrggghh me hearties.
If it’s been lying for any period of time I’d change the pump impeller too. I’m a marine engineer. The rubber perishes and stops pumping. Usually a few miles from the harbour which is inconvenient at best. Cheap as chips anyway.
I don’t know diddley about boats but this was great content fellas! I look forward to seeing you both giving this old boat the Salvage Rebuild treatment. And don’t forget the trailer. Bound to want a good going over. Crack on lads….time’s money…👍😁
Loving the boat. Just my cup of tea it is lovely to see you guys changing it up a little. Every guy loves a nice wee boat. Can't wait to see what you do with it. Might even put in an offer. Well done
Lovely little fishing boat boys , your going to have a Whale of a time with this one , looking forward to the rest on this one 👍👏👏 Swiss watch the engine 😀 you might need a bigger boat lol.
It's too early for a Seahog. It's a CJR 14. They were made in either 14 or 16 foot and later the moulds were taken over by Seahog. Very stable little boat. Great in the sea. They do slam a bit in the waves but it's a small price to pay for the stability of the Cathedral hull.
CJR 14 my dad had one when we were growing up as a kid (15) and im now 61
Absolutely loved this video, been following a while now and haven’t saw a boat on the channel. It’s like a camper van content, so good it’s different, if I could have a boat and camper in life I would be happy. Cheers lads I appreciate this free content!!!
Very nice guys. A real change from the norm. It will be great to see it cleaned up, and you two guys out doing a sea trial.
Cap’n Pugwash lives !!
Looking forward to the next instalment
“Sorry guys, had a ping pong table in the way there” Classic Quote!!!!!!
What a great variety of projects, whats next a small plane. Love this channel.
Years ago I owned a 15 ' Tunnel boat made out of fiberglass, I forget the size of the outboard but it was a Mercury and flat out 32 mph . I used to be a welder before I retired and I made a frame out of 302 stainless tubbing with rod holders in the middle and stainless 14 ga plate both ends for downriggers all held up with two round tubes and plate top and bottom to bolt onto the boat .Great video .
Another great video, Rob & Chris never a dull moment. Really enjoyed this one, it'll clean up nice. Can't wait to see it in the water. 👍👍👍
Rob/Chris, and old friend of mine once said and I’ve never forgotten this saying, “IF IT FLYS, FU*KS OR FLOATS RENT IT” 😂😂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Shunt Master ..The best advice I ever had ... If it flys F***S or floats ..Lease it ..Wished I done that with my lady !!!
@@jamesharris2073 nice one.
Has Chris had a look for any loose change yet 😂😂
Good to see you two with such big smiles on your faces, maid me smile the all the way through this video. Boats is there nothing you two can't get running 😅👍

You have my interest again, this is my cup of tea 🍵
Sometimes cars and other vehicles gets a bit 🤔 having a boat puts a smile on most peoples chops, looking forward to the launch 😜
whatever floats your boat...how about salvage seabuilds ?
love boats....buy more got two of these mariner 30s great engine.
Love it something different on the channel. Can't wait to see her cleaned up
Nice to see something different guys, we bought our boat in November and love every minute restoring her.
crikey nice one was it on Bullseye?
Look what you could have won
Very cool. I like.
Looks like a salvage rebuilds fishing trip coming up great video guys fantastic too see you both enjoying yourself.your deffo full of surprises, am looking forward to seeing you both in the next video ♥️👍👍
Rob I’ve done all the failing for you. To polish gel coat use, rotary polisher, 9 inch 3m wool pad and Menzerna super heavy cut compound. Then follow up with a decent polish, medium pad on a da forced rotation machine. If it is highly oxidised wet sand with 2000 first. You need the big guns for gel coat , it is NOT like car paint.
Definitely a CJR , seen loads of them.
The switch on the controls is for a kill cord!!! Make sure you get one and wear it when your underway!!
Great content, fun and somewhat educational. With guy’s who a so passionate and enthusiastic. Good stuff.
Hi from Durham guys 👋 👍 am with you rob think the pressure wash will be awesome on the boat👌 and yeah get it ready and hit the water I want to see it all 👍 lol can't wait for this and to see how it turnes out 👌 thanks for your time be safe and see you soon 👍👋
Great little boat, do it up, sell, then buy bigger one, trade up couple more times, then you’ll be into a Sunseeker!
Haha I swear your South end accent has gotten stronger in these recent videos Rob lol. "Thirty orse, this fing ull go like a rocket" "sprayed every fin ap wiv a bit ovv dabble u dee fortee" 😂
I’m not from Essex bud never have been were in kent 👍
@@sruk I know you have said before but that is what it reminds me of. 😄
I just finished rebuilding a 5m Tornado Rib boat....spanking new sponsons on it...mine has a 75hp Mariner on it...you can't beat being out on the water mate.
This series I'm going to enjoy.
Just love boats have had 8 altogether. Look forward to the clean. Great video and light relief for you two as well. Cannot wait for sea trial it will be quick👍👍👍👍✅✅✅✅
A right pair of Delboys
That's right dellboays 4.0. 13 feet. Long
The best 2 days of owning a boat, the day you buy it and the day you sell it 😉
Thanks Chris and Rob - quality content yet again! Boaty stuff is very welcome.
Looking forward to the clean up and seeing you bobbing about on the water! Looks like you are really loving this rebuild.
HMS Waffle needs to be sea tested for sure 🙂

Ship ahoy lol great to see Chris excited can’t wait to see him doing the sea trails with Rob hanging on for his life lol. Great little fishing boat but is Rob going to get the ski’s out? I hope so what a great video that would be lol Tom
Hello Rob and Chris, great video, of course we all want to see you two out on a sea trial😂.
The clean-up video will be just as good.
More great content.
Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged
Looks like a CJR 14 footer. Late 70’s into the 80’s.
Definitely, I have one moored next to the boat I live on.
Living on a nice boat living the dream I’d love to do that or a cheap camper
Never start a 2 stroke with brake clean or starting fluid. Squirt 2 stroke mixed fuel in it.
You two never fail to amaze but a great video, great little boat, good service replace vital parts impeller etc. Look forward to your sea trials, really enjoyed something different.
Great video guys. Can’t wait to see it cleaned up and on the water! 👍👍👍
Rob you need to get on eBay for some water-skiing equipment 😁
🤣🤣🤣
Did you check this out on Boat Vertical before you did the deal ?

Maybe Boat Horizontal?
Great vid, love these slightly left-field vehicles. Looking forward to the next installment.
Another great video lads. Keep 'em coming!
