I didn't do that great in high school. Only got a 36 on the ACT and 1590 on the SAT
I also didn't study much for the ACT. Only took about 15 practice tests beforehand.
I never took em
Didn’t study much compared to other Asians, only took 3-4 practice tests before hand. Didn’t get good grades, only 3.9. Didn’t study much, only like 4 hours every day
@@bigpoppa4094 A for average
@@bigpoppa4094 That is actually very few tbh; in conventional Asian parents' standard kids should study at least 60 per day and the other 40 hours for practicing instruments :/
This is the most normal I've ever seen Arpi lmao
arpi park - "my grades were not the best"...his interpretation of not the best is 3.6/4.0 gpa in high school...my interpretation of not the best is 2.4/4.0 gpa in high school.
Do you think having a 3.6 GPA as an English learner can make a difference?
@@Alejandro-vn2si yes, having a 3.6 or above gpg will definitely get your application reviewed but it depends on other aspects of your application as well. how are your sat/act test scores? what about your extracurricular activities? how well written is your "why you want to attend" paper? you stated that you are an english learner and your name here is alejandro, i dont know if thats your real name but i can only assume that you are either from or your parents are from central/south america. the thing is these prestigious universities prefer to have a very diverse group of students, your background would be a plus for their admissions because you represent an underrepresented ethnic group.
sthao1 GPA how about his SAT
@@sthao1733 well my SAT is not the best one, but I am involved in a club. Also I wrote several articles for two newspapers and I have been involved a lot extracurriculars.
with your background, gpa, extra curricular activities, written two newspaper articles, i would encourage you to apply. im guessing you are entering your senior year this upcoming fall? i would advise you to give the sat another shot. you have all summer to study for it if stanford is truly your dream school. if you dont mind asking what was your score? you dont need to provide the exact score but give me a range like between 1350-1420 or something. even if you dont get admitted just know that its not the end of the world. you can get the same great education from a public school like the university of washington or the university of michigan. dont look so much at school rankings. look more at fit, culture, etc.
Stanford applications about to double
“1590” “36” oh ok.yeh.thansk
Which would your rather get into? Stanford or Google? One charges you money to be there, the other pays you to be there. See that? As an ex-Google Tech Lead, that's why I'm better than both of these kids, combined.
according to my statisTACS, ze TechLead is correcto...
😂👌👍👍👍👍👍
that's factual
*Yeah But Google doesn't give you a Degree* 🤭
@@renjithroy8422 Having a name like Google on your resume is better than getting a degree.

You're really a POS, lots of judging going on. Correspondence attitude.

this is exactly the person I would picture to say stanford is easy with low grades
vivaladavid550 with a 1590 sat lol
Gmoney Mozart and a perfect ACT lol
you're such a great interviewer, you bring out the best sides of both Arpi and Elliot in such a well rounded way, love your work!
Arpi actually looks presentable here lol
Damn I actually love this two small RUclips’s I watched collabed together
This was a really cool video!! I just wanted to comment on something arpi said - I actually go to MIT, and we definitely don't have quotas for grades here. In fact, in some classes it has even been said that technically everyone can get an A if they do well enough in the class. There is also no sense of competition on campus and from my experience, everyone actually wants to help each other because that benefits them more than competing! :)
Nice! MIT is my dream school
Hey melissa,
Actually I ve got some qst to ask u if there's a way to contact u maybe ? FB or ..
@@marouamaroua7261 I doubt any of them reply, but you can try 😂 first thing I'll do if (when) I get into my dream college is actually respond to people that are confused and need help, like I do rn.
'clarifies' that this isn't an interview
* few moments later *
"Soooo, where do you envision yourself in five years"

I know you said it wasn’t, but this really feels more like an interview than a conversation
Thanks joma for everything .
This is so raw yet structured. Great video!
Why AM I CRUSHING SO HARD ON ARPI

He has a chill personality. Someone whom I 'd like to be friends with lol
Since I'm done watching all of Elliot's vids now I'm gonna watch other vids as long as Elliot is there. HAHAHA I'M SUCH A CRAZY FAN! LOVE ALL OF YOU GUYS
What an unbelieveable collab, I follow all three of these dudes
I have just received my letter of admission from Stanford and I must say: Having watched this video before applying really helped me to contextualize the process fr.
I also confirm what Arpi said about Stanford and college applications in general. Having exotic interests and a passion for something really helps to increase your chances.
I followed all 3 of you!Insane!
arpi had to slip in that “i got a 36” lmao
absolutely unreal, crazier crossover than infinity war
Great video. I’m a hs senior and my college application process was similar to arpi’s in terms of scores, etc.
The college admissions process for top schools is really just a big game that depends on your ability to form a coherent narrative and develop a compelling story in order to differentiate yourself from the masses of 1600 / 36 scorers. I feel like that is one the big things that some kids don’t understand, you can improve your odds of admission by focusing on some unique aspect of your application.

Good advice. Where are you headed this fall?

I instantly clicked coz I saw ELLIOT’s name on it. Does this make me a crazy fan of Elliots!!!!
Cool collab and I think it would have been better had it been a conversation with a single person instead of two.
Props to you for bringing out their narrative but also guiding them towards a higher goal
wow this video was very enlightening. i never thought of grades in the way that arpi stated... grades only matter if youre going into grad school. also, i realized that not a lot of people know what they want to do in life. not many people can see long-term goals into the future... they can only plan for goals up to 3 months and the long long long term goals is very dependent upon what life throws at you along the way. thanks for the video joma! i learned a lot :)
It is important for grad school, but a high GPA for your undergrad can help to boost your application/resume for that first job. After your first job, though, your work experience and recommendations are what matters.
OK, so literally 3 of my favorite youtubers just collabed
Joma!!! Thank you for this whole video. I think its rlly great that you r sharing things i wouldnt have known if i havent subscribed to ur channel. Keep on uploading

Is Arpi the Big Head from silicon valley😆😆😆
But really I liked Arpi's personality... Seemed like a simple man. And at 14:49 he was like so clueless 🤣🤣 Absolutely loved that guy😆

YES YES YES A COLLAB THAT I DIDN'T KNOW I NEEDED
Great interview. Video seemed like honest and intellectual conversations. Got a chance to know inspiring people. At the end, everyone tries harder to get what they really wanted even if they say that they did not. The levels of hard work really vary among individuals.
Why have I never seen this video... it has two of my favorite RUclipsrs.. now 3 favorites.
Not me watching this video after the whole Arpi Stanford drama lol
Ppl saying this didn’t age well, what actually happened?
@@bruhmomentum3797 I think he plagiarized his admissions (common app) essay. As far as I remember, he copied a NYT article with some changes. It was big on reddit. I don't know what happened to him tho. I hope he was forgiven by the Stanford committee. I mean he is an intelligent and amazing individual who could've got into Stanford either way but planarization is also a serious issue.

do you have a podcast? this interview was amazing.
Well I mean, now seeing it, getting in to a normal to decent school is pretty fine with me. I know my strengths and I think I know what I can do with the world, so what the heck does getting into a grand university have to do with it. Whether they see what I have or not I'm getting that bread.
Thanks a lot for this sincere and honest interview, as well as for sharing with the interviewees part of the learning process that every college student; particularly students who have a diverse cultural background, go through the social challenges that the west is dealing nowadays!!!!!
Here for Elliot Choy!!
I'm able to help people on most interesting Life, Career, Tech, Travel Tips ever with my brand new RUclips channel.
Thanks a lot Joma.. You really inspired me. :)
Your sense of humor is your asset!
16:35 interestingly for my O levels, i wrote a narrative about developing an interest in learning my own langauge(tamil). i got an A1 too so i guess when u write something from the heart, higher chances of doing very well
i had been struggling for years to speak tamil due to insecurity and not having a practical reason to do so but after meeting my tuition teacher, she helped me develop that interest in tamil by linking it to my heritage and identity. so putting all this into a 3 page essay was very appealing to the examiners who are in the UK and want to see something authentic to my country(singapore)
That's dope. You can actually write up something similar for your college essay as well then
@@artiste9357 i did! i wrote about my overthinking and political awakening as a teen and altho i didnt get into the course i wanted to, i did get into the uni of my choice
Hey Joma,
I know program/product management can be different from company to company, but I was wondering if you could maybe do a video (you or with someone else who is a PM about what it generally entails, mistakes they've made and learned from, what makes a good pm, etc.. ) Thanks and I'm happy for your success and well being!

I took the act once, never studied, terrible score. God I was so unaware when I was younger. Having no one to guide you or mentor when your young is a huge disadvantage. Lucky I learned from my mistakes and was able to help my brothers do better then I did coming out of high school.

NOW THIS IS A WELCOME SURPISE
the fact that im subbed to both already.
Can you explain how twitter chooses a hashtag to trend???
I know you worked as a data scientist so probably you know how something like that work.
L A it’s simple. They see which ones are being used in high frequencies in a certain period of time. Hashtags in high usage will be trending

Private labeled subscription e-commerce is booming. Three guys in a bedroom can outsource customer service, manufacturing, fulfillment and simply run the advertising (FB ads, Google Ads, Email channels, etc) and do seven figure monthly recurring revenues. I wouldn't discount the ease of doing this. I've already seen three year timescales for acquisitions in the space including Native Deodorant and the number of giants in Los Angeles - Honest, DollarShave, ShoeDazzle, MVMT, Chewy.
