The thing about the Master’s laugh is this: This is an incarnation that is *anything* but mad. There’s no room for madness because this is an incarceration rammed to the brim with evil and that laugh shows it. That’s not insanity. That’s someone who is evil and *loves* being evil.
The thing I love the most about this theme is how much it sounds like the theme of a typical “alien invader”. Like, flying saucers, laser weapons, all that jazz And somehow it still fits The Master to a T. At his core, he is an alien threat aiming to make the whole of reality kneel.
God I love this theme, its like a distorted and mad version of the regular theme. Just like how Jacobi's Master is a mad and distorted version of the Doctor
The Master really shouldn't be insane unless they're going down the deadly assassin route imo, I don't much care for the modern series portrayals largely for this element. I guess the End of Time did try to sort of do the Deadly Assassin thing with the Master but they toned that way down and half arsed it, in fact he's just a bit silly in that story. Missy is a hell of a lot of fun as a character but still miles off from being the Master.
@@dommoore6180 don’t worry, Jacobi’s Master is insane in all the right ways. He can be the most charming, kindly and heartfelt old man one moment, and then he’d kill you with barely a tinge of regret in the next, heck he’d probably drop an amusing quip in there too if he has time. He’s much like Delgado in that respect, only he’s far more cruel and sadistic (and much more dangerous too, even the Doctor struggled to keep up with him).
@@EditedAF987i wouldn’t call the Master mad, that was mostly new who. If he really was mad, then the timelords wouldn’t have let him become a timelord. The Master sees non-timelord species as beneath him that they’re not really alive to him. Think killing an NPC in a game like in GTA. And also it was really only John Simm’s Master that was insane, the others were mostly campy, or over the top, but not mad.
@@dommoore6180 frankly, that's why I love missy. @@stewartmair3995 funny you guys should bring that up. in an interview the big finish writers pretty much agree that jacobi's incarnation is the one truly competent master incarnation of them all
@@ShinyaMerveilles66 I think that has more to do with the fact that when we mostly see the master it is against the Doctor, who has a tendency to win. The War Master is far more focused on the opportunity the time war can give him, hence why he tends to be more successful. Especially since he tends to align himself with the time lords
0:08 is my favorite part of the soundtrack, because you can really hear and see the evil, the intensity and the cruelty of the Master’s universe and role in the Last Great Time War; truly The War Masterpiece.

The first thing I did when I could find a Jacobi Master figure ( they should really release a War Master one) was pose Delgado and Jacobi shaking hands. Honestly Delgado would be proud. In my mind Jacobi is the only Master that is even with Delgado ( I really can't decide now which of them is better...that's how good Jacobi is). In my mind the conversation between my figures goes something like this Delgado : "It is quite pleasing to see my evil reputation through the cosmos is in safe hands" Jacobi : "You could say that"... * Evil laughter* *This theme plays*.
Derek Jacobi is THE Master is my opinion. He's so brilliant in the role. So manipulative and calculating. So pure evil in how he destroys people's lives and leaves you emotionally devastated, but wanting more. I do love Missy, she's my second favorite, but no other Master can match Derek Jacobi's pure evil Master.

The drums, the drums, the drums, the never ending drumbeat. Open me, you human fool. Open the light and summon me and receive my majesty!
huh fun how the four-beat rhythm they do for the Doctor Who theme takes on new meaning here

Dereck is THE best master, and that's saying something.

I would say the same for all the big finish masters to be honest. Especially Geoffrey beavers.

Derek Jacobi is the best modern master
He's as good as Michelle Gomez to me. By which I mean joint best
He is by far the best modern master simm and Gomez don’t come close
I'd extend that to best master
Yep
Roger Delgado and James Dreyfus are also really good master incarnations though

I love this so much.
Love how it transitions!
Derek Jacobi, able to change between benevolent grandfather to complete megalomaniac on a dime. Brilliant choice for the Master.
having listened to War Master 1... wow. This guy is a monster.
ALL HAIL THE MASTER!!! ALL HAIL THE MASTER!!!
War is the best master no doubt
I raise you Delgado.
I am the Master and you will obey me.
I'll only obey these people:
God, Jesus and the Doctor
I am Samuel Black and you will obey my every command!
This is so good and on point! Thanks for uploading!
I love how the Master wins in these boxsets, in a normal story the Doctor would outwit him but here in the 2 times he meets the Doctor he beats him
Master’s show. Master’s rules.
Whoever has their name top of the credits has all of the plot armour.

Who are those two in the middle
This would be a great theme for Scarlet Witch.
Can i ask wtf is the face on that girl in the picture? I think she is on the verge of laughing but it trying to also hold a fart at the same time
Still, if The Doctor can return to a former incarnation, and not miss a beat, then so can he. The Master reborn?
It is possible.
