I have an older version Moken 10 and Moken 12.5. I am a fan of both these boats, but my husband and I made the choice to buy two new version Moken 12.5‘s instead the 10 or a Lure. Here’s why. I am a paddler. I come from an open canoe background and I love how the 12.5 handles. I also love the speed of the 12.5 vs the Moken 10 or the Lure 10, 11.5- haven’t tried the 13. It’s 799, and you get a sonar pod, and adjustable seat. I don’t know if I will ever use the sonar pod, but it’s there if I needed, and it has that much needed improvement on the seat. Honestly, that’s the only flaw I can admit in my Moken 12.5. The boat is meant to stand in, but when you’re not a kid anymore, it’s not easiest thing in the world when you’re trying to fish. But that new seat has got to help a lot. And they kept the same hull, so I’m assuming it is going to paddle the same- which is like a DREAM. And again, I’m not trying to knock the 10. It’s a great boat as well, but if you’re going kayaking with someone who has a longer boat, or a hull that’s going to give you more speed, you’re gonna find yourself lagging behind. I went out with my husband with my Moken 10, and his big fish, and it was very hard for me to keep up with him. The 12.5 is sleek, it’s fairly fast, and I had absolutely no trouble with it in the wind even without a rudder. It’s just got to be One of the best boats on the market for the price. Spent a couple hundred more dollars and get a much better paddling boat. It’s going to beat the more expensive Lure hands down as well as far as paddling. I love the 12.5. The only thing is I can take my 10 and place it on the top of my car by myself. That 12.5 is just a little more than I can handle being a woman. But if I use the trailer, it would be no problem.
👍 I'm gonna have to make a 1.5 hr trip to the Nashville area, come better weather, and see the Moken 10 in person. Time for my 13 yr old grandson to upgrade from his Pelican Apex100, and get into something with more features and stability, and the rudder option on the Moken 10 fits the need, and the overall price is really decent. My Lure 11.5 is going into it's 4th season come June. 👍
You’re the 1st video I’ve watched on kayaking and I’m super pleased with your very candid reviews because you’ve answered so many newbie/just thinking about my first kayak questions. I love that you said your shop will be the 2nd purchase if a person finds out if they like the sport so they can upgrade. I’m in New Brunswick Canada and you’ve made me want to go talk to my local kayak shop to make a connection. Thank you again - really appreciate your efforts in making this information available. Happy paddling 🛶
Got rid of my 12' 3 kayak to get something lighter and more compact but could still pack all my gear and stand up in. The only draw back to the moken 10 is the noise it makes paddling through the water but only when there's a alittle chop. it tracks surprisingly well for a 10 ft and i have no problem standing up and fishing. Removing the center counsel and making the whole deck open would of been nice. its really not necessary unless your putting a transducer in, which the Lure 10 was made for. Everything else about the kayak is great. My old kayak had the feel free seat and i can say i like the feel of the moken better, it supports the back better. Wheel in the keel is a god send. after hauling around a 120 pound kayak i don't think i could ever buy another kayak without one. There was no other kayak out there for the price with all the options i wanted in a fishing kayak, feel free killed it with moken.
My only problem with your videos is that they are too good and give me too many options for trying to pick out my first boat. Thank you for all of your videos.
This was a fantastic review...I would love to have the same comparison for the Moken 12.5 compared lure 11.5 . Specifically for large River, Coastal bays.
Man that Moken 10 would be great for camping trips with the family! I hope it can handle fairly big guys (240 Lbs) for recreation and casual small lake fishing in the Rocky Mtns.
Not sure if you already purchased, it he said there was a 2” (Lure 34” / Moken 32”) difference in width and the Feel Free web site says there is 1” difference ( Lure 34” / Moken 33”).
Now this one takes me back a ways when Chad Hoover sold me my 1st kayak eons ago, a sweet forest camo Moken 10., nowhere near as nice as this one. Nice to see Feel Free, Johnny Boast, & many others, are releasing excellent gear at reasonable prices these days, even releasing hella upgraded models at ( shockingly) better price points!!! #amazing
Love your videos and the knowledge you share so freely. I have been watching most of your videos regarding FeelFree, Crescent and Bonafide. Those are the 3 manufacturers I have narrowed down to. My model short list has the Bonafide SS107, Crescent LiteTackle and FeelFree Lure 10 V2. I am new to kayaking and will be out on larger lakes with boat traffic as well as smaller rivers with some currents but nothing classified as rapids. I am 60 yrs old and have C5,6&7 fused so overall weight (for car top loading), stability (avid fly fisher) and capacity ( I stay around 200#s @ 5'-11") are my determining criteria. From these 3 boats would any be "the one" you would recommend? Your reviews are great but you to "talk me into" every boat you like lol! Any input would be great and thanks again for sharing your knowledge as I am sure you are helping many more people than you might hear from.
one year later and $100 more expensive...at least MSRP. But honestly, the Moken 10 v2 is one of the few 10 footers I've found on the market with a decent max weight capacity....especially if you are looking for something and want to keep 100 lbs below max capacity while on the water. Plus it weighs less than 70 lbs. Now, if only I had a place to put it :(
Hey Dan thanks for all the content. Love watching your videos they have really helped me get into the sport. With that said I think your specs maybe off a bit. Feel free says the Moken is rated for 440lbs. Which makes the comparison way closer in my opinion. Again thanks for what you do.
Yes but their weight limited are also way out of touch with reality. I’ve put lots of people in boats and anything close to 300 in a Moken and the paddler is going to feel tippy and probably capsize. 275 is realistic Max paddler weight. Some exceptions are out there, because not everyone is the same, but for the most past its not for big folks.
I guess Covid demand has driven the price up...a lot. This model has gone up from $599 to a current price on the Feel Free web site of $714. Still seems like a great boat for the money....
Dan that is Great but the only thing that is missing in this industry is Trade in it would be Great to go back to your dealer and trade your kayak after the sale that is it sorry. You can purchase a motorcycle, car, boats , firearms on and on but kayak no will do is this correct or yourself take trade in. Dan as always thank you for the video. I hope you can give me some insight. Gio
Hey Headwaters Kayak!! I've been looking through your videos reviewing all sorts of kayaks and I love it. I've been browsing on the internet for a fishing kayak for awhile now and found this particular kayak. I was wondering about the, Hoodoo Element 100s Sit On Top Kayak. It's retailing under $600 and I was wondering if you could do a review about the kayak or just talk about it in your future videos. I appreciate all your guys' work and especially with kayak reviews. Well, hopefully, you can give me or some of us a review of this kayak. Thank you for your time!
Nice that they came out with a 10ft with lawn chair style seat. The 10 footer will shine in skinny water creeks. How do you rate the plastic quality on the hull of the feel frees?
Hey Dan! Somewhat off topic. My Dad currently has the lure 13.5 paddle only. Do you think the overdrive system is worth it? Is it a good drive? Thanks! Love the channel.
Eric Hodges honestly I’d try and sell it and get a Slayer Max. It’s not the cleanest retrofit. It works, but your pretty deeply invested in something that is not as good as its competition.
Awesome stuff. Unfortunately, according to the website ,it's for pick up only and don't ship ,guess I'll need to look for something as awesome as this one somewhere else
Have you done an Ascent 10T, 12T, or 128T review? I believe those are the bass pro shop models. I am a first time kayak buyer myself and I have been watching a ton of your videos. Your content is excellent and I wish I lived in California so I could give your store my business. Keep up the quality content and god bless!
Was hoping to see an on water review of the Standard, its not featured much on youtube. I did just order two of them but it was only because I like the open bow rather than a hatch.
I just moved to a new house on a small river and am thinking about which kayak best fits my needs. I appreciate your videos very much! Too bad I live in SC and can't buy from your shop!
If it's preplumbed for a rudder them why would pedals be an issue? I am a noob so I really am curious as to why pedals wouldn't be an option. Thanks for all the videos Dan! You do a great job!
Can you add the weight in your reviews It’s nice to know which ones are for the 400 lb range for bigger paddlers . That would save watching an entire review only to find out its for a lighter person . Thanks Dan
@@valberde61 It was the V2! I tried the bigger 12ft, since that's what I was interested in, I did not try the 10ft version like in this video. I can stand on it fine (6'1", 200lbs); it's not the most sturdy kayak I've been on, but you can definitely stand if you need to. The biggest think I noticed was that it paddles a lot more efficiently than I was expecting - better than my Topwater 106 for cutting through some coastal chop we have in the estuaries here, but tracking is mixed results (in fairness, Topwater isn't great either without a rudder). I was actually going to buy the yak I demo'd, but it was already spoken for (they were nice enough to let me demo it anyway). As of now, I do intend to buy both versions eventually: the 12 for me and 10 for my gf. Plan is replace our aging Topwaters with them. I definitely plan on doing rudders.
Hello Dan, I would be very interested in your thoughts on the Moken 10 V2 vs the Vibe Yellowfin? Living on the North Shore of Massachusetts I paddle mostly rivers. I'd like to upgrade to a sit on top to accommodate my 35 lb dog. Been waiting on local inventory on a Moken 10 V2 or Yellowfin 120. Only thing readily available is the Yellowfin 100. I'm 5'7 around 200. Currently paddling an old 12' dagger sit inside.
Man. I’ve been stuck between the lure 10 & the JB bass 100. Both have features I love, but I can’t decide on which to go with. Would be using for fishing.
Hello Dan! Thanks for all the info! I have a question on some of the kayaks that have scupper plugs. I've heard some people complain about if you don't have them in, the kayak takes on water. (Hoodoo 100s) and some vibe kayaks. Do i need the plugs to use those? I've used a Jackson staxx before and splash water all over me and it drains right out. Just want to know of those are the same
Can’t make up my mind between the Moken 10 or 12.5. Had a cheap, awful 10ft kayak previously. Both will be a massive upgrade. Mainly stick to rivers but will be on the main lake more with a more stable yak. Think the 12.5 is worth the extra 200 the extra speed and sonar pod? No sonar pod on the 10 is making this a tough choice
so I'm in the market to buy my 3rd kayak- pretty sure I want to go with the ff moken 12.5-use for bay and some lake fishing. I have a bad back and just curious to know your opinion on the 10 ft. boat. don't really have to paddle that far to get fishing (1/4) mile lets say, will the 10 be easier than the 12.5? bay may get 1-2 ft. swell at times with boats going by is it going to flip me out? in a shorter yak or would the 12 be more stable- and is the ff lures seat really worth the extra $$$$- love your reviews and the detail to the whole boat pros & cons your advice would be greatly appreciated. keep up the good work. thanks
This looks like one of the best good, inexpensive fishing yaks for small water yet! I'm in Michigan so I've got a few months to thaw out. However, I have been kicking around the idea of picking up a Vibe Yellowfin 100 but it seems this miht be better in price, quality and options? Maybe Vibe ups their game but all the rage seems to be with the Shearwater right now (whether great or average)? Any chance we could see a comparison between the Moken 10 V2 and Yellowfin 100? I'm also considering the Pelican Catch 100 as I can pick those up locally for $525. If I hate it I'll give it to my kids but any thoughts on comparing all three? I also just saw Jackson has stuck a peddle drive in their fairly new Bite (wonder when Dan might test that model)? That's too rich for me but interesting...
How do these compare to the Pescador 120? Bought one last year only thing I don’t like about it is the rod holders. But then again I’m new to the game. Way better than my son Dolphin that’s for sure.
Just subscribed to your site. have you done any reviews on Ascend Kayaks (fishing)? I think they are sold only through Bass Pro /Cabelas stores. I wish I lived close to you so I could buy from your shop but since im in the midwest , it will most likely be a local purchase.
How do you feel about the moken 10 lite? My kayak now is only 46lbs and the idea of going up to 60-70 doesn't seem great to me. I'm in Illinois and can't go sit in any feelfree kayaks because they don't sell them around here apparently
I have a boat myself. But have been interested in getting one of these for lakes or creeks ect. I even saw a video of someone fishing in the ocean on one of these. Now that really sparked my interest. My thing is I would want to be able to paddle with my legs. And have room to really fish. With a fish finder. I dont not know much about my options. Any advice?
Man was i wrong. I was set on getting a lure. Thought the lure v2 came with the new high back seat. Since that was some of the complaints I heard from consumers. N that would be a big upgrade along with pod and drive. Also im curious with the big fish 105 sonar pod fit the lure?
I just bought my 1st kayak. Unfortunately I don’t live near your store. I am making an 8 hour round trip to pick up a Moken 10 v2. I hope I made the right decision. I’m a big guy, about 295 pounds. This video is a big reason I went with the Moken. Any advice on must have accessories? Are the Feelfree paddles decent? Thank you for the great review and any advice you can give me.
Nice!!! I’m 274 lbs, was looking at the lure 13.5 but it’s so expensive with the paddle and rudder but I was asking anyone that reads this, should I get the lure 10, 11, or 13?
LawDawg if I were you, which I’m right at your weight as well, I’d take a look at the 3waters Big Fish 120. At $899 it’s $200 cheaper than the Lure 12 and weight capacity is within 25# of the Lure. With that savings you can get a paddle and most of the cost of the rudder kit, which you may or may not end up needing. Be sure to paddle it beforehand if you can, but I could see it working well for you. Good luck!
I am a new subscriber to your vids! Great job, I really like them! For this vid, in particular, I like the seat and price range of the Moken 10. I don't want to fish, just leisurely boating. What other kayaks in this price range have a comparable or better seat/options? Is this a good fit for a 6'-2 240 lb person?
I'm looking between the moken 10 and 12.5. Looking for something lighter and shorter for transporting when I take it with my rv. How do you think the moken 10 will perform with a bigger guy (6'2" 280). I currently fish from a 14.5' emotion grand slam angle which is a little cumbersome getting on my truck roof racks by myself...really like the moken 10 dimensions.
Maybe a noob comment to make, but I saw your 2019 video of best beginner kayaks and was wanting to find something that's a bit of an upgrade! I have had the pelican trailblazer 100NXT for approximately 2 years, and I love it! I am hoping to find something that is a bit of an upgrade that I can go up and down the river (moving, with spots of minor white water that I sometimes have to get out and walk it) with (and maybe do some light fishing). Thoughts?
The moken 10 is $769 now. These damn companies sure have jacked up the prices on everything way over inflation costs. This is Price Gouging at its finest!
Freight! Feelfree spent double or triple shipping cost to get boats to consumers since 2021. The kayak itself only makes up part of the boats expense, moving it around the world is the bigger expense and reason for the major price jump.
Love your channel....wish I wasn't in Tennessee so I could visit your shop. Thanks for the review...those two upgraded Mokens at those prices are unbeatable!! Can't wait to try them out and get one. Was looking at Vibe yellowfins...very comparable in size and price....but the seat adjustment and wheel in the keel just takes these Mokens over the top. Perfect for just float fishing down a river. If I fished lakes...probably go the lure for the pass thru deck for a fish finder....at these feelfree prices could just get one of each...Thanks again!!
Brother Dan, when is Feel Free gonna release new Moken 14 ? Or are they gonna redo Moken 14 ? Been waiting on this info & have not heard anything at all on it. Thanks.
Daniel Mcnish At this point they don’t have any plans to redo the Mokeb 14 unless they start getting more demand for the longer boat. But nothing in the works
@@HeadwatersKayak Appreciate that info Dan. Since WS Tarpon series went to 14' , thought surely Feel Free would have overhauled Moken 14'. At least now i know. Great job on the updates & videos.

Do you shipped in the Philippines?
Don’t see $599?
@@OanhHuuNguyen78 nope it says $799 now .
At that price point the Moken is hard to beat. Thanks for taking the time to compare the two kayaks. ✌
I agree. $599 is Bass Pro shop prices, with Headwaters quality and service thats a win win.
IDK the vibe kayaks are pretty hard to beat at the same price point.
I can’t wait to upgrade. Glad the kayak manufacturers are getting more competitive and adding more and better features at lower price points.
Matter of time before China gets involved and sells a perfect replica of a 3000 dollar boat for 129.98 at Walmart

You are lucky in the US, here in Europe, prices are double of that: nothing less than 1600€ for the german model.
It will take a foot pedal rudder system, but not the Feelfree pedal drive. The hand steering does not work on the Lure 10 setup.
It's crazy how the feelfree moken 10 and the moken 10 lite is still 599, and they're 7 years old...and this 2020 version that's 599!!!!??
Can you add the weight in your reviews
It’s nice to know which ones are for the 400 lb range for bigger paddlers . That would save watching an entire review only to find out its for a lighter person . Thanks Dan
Insane how much kayak for the buck the revised V2 Moken offers... Going to demo one in a couple weeks!
Cup & Cone did you try the moken v2? How was it, can you stand on it?
Thanks man
Great Video Thank You I LOVE FEELFREE Kayaks. Stay Safe
Just got my Moken 10 Saturday, dying to get it out on the water!!!
Where did you buy it? My local dealer says it cannot be ordered until September :(
Familia Tejada-garcia I’m in VA, I had to puta deposit down to have it reserved in Amherst
I wonder in the future if Feel Free would put the pedal drive in the Moken 12 V2 it would be nice.
Check out yak gadgets
Thank you for the review!
Great kayaks for the money.
Disappointed the moken didn't have a front hatch.
Dave Bard it’s 599! If you had a hatch you are 100 bucks
@@HeadwatersKayak
And then you gotta ask your yourself, why not the 12.5 then.lol
You are the best man
Just want to know of those are the same
Wish you were closer to Colorado
It’s crazy how much the price is now for these kayaks
Yeah, inflation has gotten pretty brutal…
Meanwhile I'm just tickled to death that I have a Pelican Castaway 100 Angler.
No sonar pod on the 10 is making this a tough choice
badpillowfly I would always pick the longer boat. $200 is not that big of a jump for the performance benefits.
Headwaters Kayak thanks for the input. That’s the direction I was leaning, looking forward to scooting around this summer in it!
You cant install a pedal drive in these Feelfree Moken 10 V-2 .. but you can in the Feelfree lure 10
It’s possible but you better be short.
The new Moken 12 - 2.0 looks great! Almost wish I waited 2 years. Would love to have that seat. Any way to mod that new seat into the old version?
12.5 is hands down the better paddling boat!
so I'm in the market to buy my 3rd kayak- pretty sure I want to go with the ff moken 12.5-use for bay and some lake fishing.
Sorry if you answered this in the video, but I’m working and dodging a meeting, haha. But can you set this up with a pedal drive system?
No I’m sorry.
Wow prices are going down. Just a matter of time before pedal kayaks are a norm for under a k.
Nice kayaks.. any word on shearwater?
Hey man nice video!
which is the best offshore kayak you recommend?
Good luck!
Thanks man
Really helps a lot
Do a video on the Lifetime Teton, its a great boat for the price point
I am a new subscriber to your vids! Great job, I really like them! For this vid, in particular, I like the seat and price range of the Moken 10. I don't want to fish, just leisurely boating. What other kayaks in this price range have a comparable or better seat/options? Is this a good fit for a 6'-2 240 lb person?
Going on my wish list.
I will be getting my first fishing kayak. Do you recommend the Moken for beginners or the upgraded one for 799.00? Thanks
How fast is the Moken 10 compared to say a Cresent ultralight 10?
Have you done a review on the 2020 bonafide kayaks yet?
Maybe a noob comment to make, but I saw your 2019 video of best beginner kayaks and was wanting to find something that's a bit of an upgrade! I have had the pelican trailblazer 100NXT for approximately 2 years, and I love it! I am hoping to find something that is a bit of an upgrade that I can go up and down the river (moving, with spots of minor white water that I sometimes have to get out and walk it) with (and maybe do some light fishing). Thoughts?
Samuel Schiltz what’s your budget?
@@bobseaver7807 the sky is the limit! I would prefer a sit-in under $900 if possible. And I LOVE how well my current kayak glides through the water!
Iam a big fan . I need to know what’s the best 2 person kayak sit on top for the ocean.
James Hairy knuckles ocean kayak zest two is my personal favorite.
How do they stand to the big fish 105.
