Yet another high quality Nick Murray production!! (Obviously It couldn’t have been done without William, too)
I really love your Porsche videos. They are informative & you tell it as it is. You really speak from a professional & knowledgeable standpoint. And a big hello from Sydney Australia.
Another great video with awesome quality, entertaining content, and informative.
Thanks Nick. Your video was really helpful and informative. We pick up our new boxster soon and we are aligned on our thoughts about options.
I got the base 718 boxster, what a great drivers car. Kept options light and don’t regret it. The turbos torque is awesome and makes power available in all gears. Keeping Porsche traditions alive by having a light and nimble car that’s quick and absolutely a joy to drive.
I always enjoy your videos Nick! Keep uploading and we'll keep watching
Nick, I noticed the emphasis on "fun" you made. I knew that was in response to my comments praising how often you said "fun" when you did the base Boxster review -- before you had the 911 back. Made me smile, you did.
Great video as always. I'm impressed by the audio quality even though you had the convertible open, very nice.
Great video Nick you really say as it is...thanks
Great review, Nick! Really helpfull tips for someone who's on a market for a Boxter.
Great video, love the sapphire blue paint! Keep it up with the videos Nick :D
Regarding your advice to skip the "S", it's not quite as simple as having less power/torque. The base is a 2.0L with a lot of boost, whereas the S is a 2.5L with VTG and less boost. For people that care about engine responsiveness maybe the $10K upgrade to the S is worth it (assuming they didn't want to just pick up a used 981).
Kyle Cronin agreed. However, sometimes having the power arriving at once can be fun. I'd suggest a test drive as many won't care. The S is undoubtedly the better car, it's just is it worth 10k
It's $12.4K more but I agree the S is more responsive. Also to me, it sounds better. Don't know if it's $12K more fun but that's subjective, of course.
242 laps on Ring, with my 718 Boxster S, great track car, I did get the $140 fire extinguisher option. PDK was great on the ring. Mash the brakes and it downshifts,
ready to pull out of corner in the right gear, Fabulous track car.
Nick love the reviews really straight forward and to the point, you have a winning formula with young William there he is so well informed. The scripts he writes for you and his video edits are first glass.. well done :-)
Great video, Nick. And I think you’re spot-on about the options on this one. None of them are must-haves. My brother has a Boxster S, a pretty basic version. And he’s still ecstatic about it. Good for him, lol. I’ll remain, and will forever be, a 911 addict.
Great video, as always!
That options video you did for the Cayman was brilliant.
I have a base stripper 981. Only upgrades are 19', bose and convenience package. Love it
That is a gorgeous beast alright, love it in that Sapphire Blue and will definitely increase the resale value. Agree about the aftermarket exhaust and throw on some headers for even more power.
Thanks for the review Nick.
More flat tires, more reviews.
Regardless of which Porsche you buy, the factory sports exhaust sounds pretty much the same on n off.
Best to go with an after market sports exhaust when the warranty ends.
Love the color.
That colour is gorgeous 😍
Great review Nick! I’d love to see you review a 981 Boxster Spyder.
Excellent review…..!
I totally agree with your sentiment "go as basic as you can" it's amazing that with no options the car basically seems like a great value but as soon as you start to add stuff that you think it "should" have suddenly it starts to seem silly. For me really, just the wheels and the speakers are fine. It's hard not to option stuff like Porsche entry and drive or better seats but they just bend you over a barrel for the little stuff
Looks like you're driving through Greenwich...beautiful!
Thanks Nick for another informative and entertaining video. In 1974 I bought a new 914 - 2.0 (mid-engine), for $5,600. At 3% yearly inflation, that would equal about $35,000 today. I know how wonderful a mid-engine car handles.
Certainly the engine note on the 718 is not as sweet sounding as the previous generations, but the new Boxster is undeniably genius.
One big gripe: The sharp creases along the front fenders are an eyesore, and incredibly bothersome to me. The curved (bubble) fenders are Porsche’s iconic signature look. I wonder why Porsche did that. I can’t imagine them doing this to the 911.
It was bound to happen eventually! Your perfectionist editor William wrote 2018 Porsche while it’s a 2019 in the actual video. Busted :-)
Nick; well done. Thanks for a very solid review/production. I really enjoy your videos. ps What brand/style are those pimp glasses you are wearing? ;)
Love my 718 base Cayman.
Actually cracked up at 4:15. Great vid as always.
Love that color!
Great vid as always!
Please review a Lotus Evora 400!!!
I have a boxster 981 and I have been a fan of u for a while. Please keep up with all the porsche video!! A Macan turbo/gts review will be awesome as I’m considering to trade in my 981 for a Macan.
Should have watched this before posting my 718 review! I guess I dont get modern Porsches anymore. Good driving, Nick!
Thanks for the awesome review and greetings from Germany. I'm considering a Boxster myself, but the wife does not like Porsche drivers as they usually drive quite agressively - too bad you and I would be excellent counterexamples.
Currently the first used Boxster are coming into market so that price tag get's a bit smaller. Personally I'm still undecided about the PASM - whether to get it or not - as PASM and the wheel size has a big influence on comfort.
I drive mine on back roads. 2023 718 Boxster S. It’s so much fun I think about it all the time when I’m at work. With any luck, I’ll get fired.
I cracked up when you said, "it's a GD rocket" thats why I want a Porsche. 💜💜💜
Master Key.....Porsche's are so good...once you drive one, you won't want anything else. That's why I've just ordered a Porsche Macan, and also saving for a Cayman s 981.1......yeee hawwwwwwwwww
Really enjoyed the review. Always been a boxster fan but love to looks of the Cayman better.
Nick 😊You're teasing with too many nice cars! 🖤Great video, thank you for the ride! xx
when are u guys making a collab vid? I totally ship you two
😊we must!
And you as a person is teasing me. The combination, you and the Boxter is unbeatable.
In the UK, Porsche Connect was standard with my 718 Boxster.
Great vid.
In the UK they dont offer any packs really.
The smoking pack is 38.00 but nav is standard. But leather is not.
Attention RUclips Comment Readers: I just got my t shirts from Nick and they are very high quality. Better than I expected :). Thanks Nick!
Nice Porch!
nick love this video looks like my 2009 boxster s pdk aqua blue metallic
would like you opinion i think sport mode redundant just go to manual mode for fun
Yeah I tested the 718 Cayman S and with the sports exhaust on or off i really could not tell the difference from the driver's seat. In the 981 however it did make a fairly noticeable difference. Kinda have to disagree on the PASM option tho, with that it makes the ride more comfortable.
Fab, as always
Your review chops are improving. Accent is more legible.
Stuffed bear is growing on me
9/10
Thank God!
It's a glorious day!
Nick Murray awesome job Nik.
Legible accent? I didn't hear his writing.
A big THANKS for not ranting over the engine sound like so many losers have...
Larry Pecharsky But it really does not sound great, especially with the roof down!!!
@Larry Pecharsky I totally agree. I'd stopped watching his 718 vids because I got tired of the ranting. I guess I'll have to finish watching this video now!
@@Fluterra "it really does not sound great"
Special thanks from South Korea. Due to your feedback, I will go with the Cayman with almost no options, not even the sports plus seat and Bose. The PASM and Sport Exhaust is base for 2019 models so I have no choice there, and I’ll option the black Carrera S wheels and GT Silver color and that’s it.
Nick, hello from Greenwich, down the road from you. Sorry I missed your recent meet-up.
We missed you!
Excellent review of an interesting car.
One thing I've been wondering though.. what will you do when the Wheel and Tire warranty period runs out? Will you switch to smaller wheels and tires to help circumvent the constant flat tire incidents?
I find the heating poor for colder weather driving in the UK, feels like the fan is not up to the job as the wind rips over your head down your back. Otherwise, an impressive car. Great video 👍💥
Beautiful car, want one so bad.
My dream car 😍
Hi Nick great videos. Surprised you haven't brought a booster after two great reviews of them but guess dogs need a back seat..But wondering if you have heard rumors that Porsche will drop the 718 line up due to poor sales.please anyone can help with info..Have a 2009 s boxster aqua blue love it and think people that really like driving drive boosters and payments and tks for great videos
Thanks Mr. Murray, I have been looking at 718 boxster and the 2017 911.2. Cabriolet. You can find a certified 911 for about 75k and the boxster is only just a little cheaper. I’m not sure that either model is selling that fast, many of these cars I have been watching sit on the dealers lots for months. I had a cayman before and had a lot of issues with it. Which car would you get? I know you love the 911. Thanks!
4:12 You can do the launch control without the Sport Chrono. I’ve done it few times last February with a non-s Boxster rented via Turo haha
Hi Nick, Listening to you as a foreigner, you give me an impression of being brought up in Australia?
Nick what is the music 🎶 in the beginning please ??? Brilliant Video
Hey Nick, what do you think about the s vs the non s on the 981? Also you look like you’re sitting very close to the dash, isn’t that uncomfortable for your legs?
One option you missed is the painted roll over bar. The 20'' wheels are nice, but I find the disc brakes look to small with those fitted.
YES excellent spotting it totally missed that $640 I think, what a waste of money!
GT4GT4GT4GT4GT4!!! A proper engine is BACK in the Boxster!!! WOOHOO!
Hi Nick, any cowl shake on the loaner Boxster that you experienced?
I like this car but the options and how they are priced are a bit extreme. Love the color, I also dont doubt it would be a blast to drive but 90k? Great work as always Nick, would love to see something aviation related soon!
strange they're using this one as a loaner, maybe someone backed out of an order
Yep, our dealer won't use anything but the SUVs, mostly Cayennes, for courtesy cars. They had too many either held on too long or they ended up in a ditch or tree after too spirited driving.
I'm SERIOUSLY considering buying one soon, but I HATE the cracking and burping. Is the std exhaust better? Aftermarket?
Update to a 2022 model? Just bought one but have time to adjust options
I know this video is getting on a bit now but what make are your shades, really liking them?
Hi Nick -- Any word on chips for the 718 Boxster/Cayman S?
Mr. Murray, hope you are well. If you could. Could you please review a 3000gt Vr4. It’s quite underrated and people often glance over it in favor of the z32 or Supra
Excellent as always Nick. Thanks for the excellent work! 90K seems like a lot of money for a Boxster...Used 911 would be the way to go I think...
I agree
Disclaimer: I am not a "if it's not a 911, it's not a real Porsche" fanboy. I try to choose cars that feel great to me - with that certain intangible sensation you (rarely) get from driving machines. I've owned a wide variety of makes and models - but only a few have been truly special (and memorable). Like Nick was, I'm in the market for something new to replace my M4 (manual). I loved my first gen Boxster manual I had years ago - just a special little car....sure it needed more power, but the handling was something really special. I also miss not having a convertible in the fleet (though my wife drives an S5 convertible). So, I recently went to test drive the Boxster 718s and 991.2 cabriolet back to back. Both were similarly (heavily) optioned with PDK. For me, hands down the 718 put the bigger smile on my face. It felt light, nimble, precise and, to quote Mr. Murray, it was a goddam rocket. By comparison the 991.2 cabrio felt heavy, much less nimble in cornering (mid engine just lets you pivot the car so nicely), and actually felt less fast (turns out it is). I must say that sound-wise, the 991.2 had a turbo whistling sound I didn't hear in the Boxster (and I didn't like it). If I bought a car on what other people think, I would buy the 911. But I want a car that speaks to me...one that is super fun to drive, looks great, and makes me want to leave work early on a sunny day. For me, that is the 718 Boxster. My GTS is on order and I can't wait. Expensive? Yep. Worth it? I think so. Buying a used 911 cabrio at the same price wouldn't give me the same joy. Buying a new one wouldn't either. Now Cayman vs. Carerra 2S? That one might make me go for the 911 - given the lower weight.
Rick, I don’t agree with your statement. The Boxster is a mid engine roadster. The 911 is a rear engine coupè. Two different cars. At this price, most of the Boxster’s buyers could afford a recent or even a new 911, but if they buy a Boxster it’s probably because they like it. The old statement “Boxster = poor man’s Porsche” is as good as saying “911 = poor’s man Ferrari”
Boxster and 911 are different cars. 911 is a great touring to track car. Boxster is a mid engine roadster. Some of us like no rear seat. A Boxster S at 350hp optioned well with 18 way seats& sport chrono is still 16k below base Carrera 370hp.
CFI Marco
You can't compare a new car to a used one. A used car is not new. Nothing better than a new car.
Sounds like Porsche has been taking lessons from the king of nickel-and-diming their paying customers - BMW. What a shame. And this coming from a Porsche guy. Thank you Nick for giving us the real scoop!
Stephen Overstreet Mercedes is much more egregious with their options compared to bmw
Agree.
Had one for a month ... drove great but the whole package was just missing something. great fun on the track but still was too loud at WOT for Laguna Seca (99.1dB) which was part of the reason I got it... so I could go all out there and not get flagged. Nice car, fast, just not for me. Partially my fault as it was an impulse purchase off the showroom. Probably will move into the 911s next time I want to give Porsche a shot.
Nick thank you for sharing this video. Holy Toledo that sounds like the Subaru WRX STI sounds like RUMBLE. If only the STI FUJI Heavy Industry got with Porsche perhaps this would be the better engine repalcing the EJ257 Unequal Headers. Give give more boost like 23 PSI that might give another 60 HP 1 PSI = 10 Horsepower as STI is at 17.2 PSI....
Hi Nick, how about another video of your Golf. Even though Porsche is King a lot of us are Golf fans too. Maybe do a review of the new Golf as well and even the new Beetle.
Car & Driver clocked the 718 Boxster S PDK w/Sport Chrono 0-60 in 3.6 sec. Porsche manufacturer claims have always been conservative, but way underestimated in this case.
The 2019 718 is now available on the Porsche configurator. Bump in price; the sport exhaust (PSE), is now standard, on both the Base and S, along with a few other goodies. If you do the math, the bump in price is a good deal, if you like PSE... I was on the fence from the start about buying the 718, and never liked PSE. It appears I may be in the minority...
I've driven both Base and S, and they are incredible cars, no doubt.
But unless Porsche offers an opt out for the sport exhaust, sadly, I'm out.
Great video, I have prank idea you could enter debuging mode in the car computer and write coxster instead of boxster so guys working in Porsche could have a laugh hehehehehe
You may wanna send a few of those new stamps to the Porsche dealer since they have to deal with you on a regular basis.
Nick what's the name of the music on the begging of the video? Regards from Brazil
Nick, the 70’s called, they want the sunglasses back. 350 hp for boxster, wow. Just concerned with road noise with top up. Funky exhaust, huh? Is that the 4cyl?
Sports cars are like ladys. No fun if the top doesn't come down!
You Sir are a philosopher
toshibavoodoo And are high maintenance.
My guy, where did this come from? 🤣
WhoooHAHAHAHA😂
Nick, in the USA does the dealership give every customer who has a flat tyre a courtesy car or just you so you can do a car review? Does it take several hours to change a car tyre? Would have thought the insurance company would contract out to a list of reputable mobile tyre fitting firms who meet you at the vehicle & change/repair the tyre in 30 minutes of so.
Just Started watching the Video & i'm Sure Nick will talk about the Bad Engine sound of that 2.5 liters Boxer ;)
Just be glad I did not talk about the GTS :)
Subaru Boxster
stupid comment : it is simply the sound of a boxer motor. If any other car would have a boxer motor it will sound nearly the same. You also notice a similar. sound if you have a V6 or whatever, so why don't you comment on that as well ? The Boxster is a superb car !
Nick, I’m thinking of buying a Porsche Boxster. I had one about 10 years ago and kinda just fancy another one. HOWEVER! Are there any other cars in this category I should be considering? Just conscious I’ve had one before so feel a bit like getting another one is... like going on holiday to the same place if you know what I mean! I have to say I think people are making too much about the 6 cylinder vs 4 cylinder turbo thing. The world is moving on is my view and it’s right to be more environmentally aware. Best, Paul
Nice bit of Gorrilla Neopost advertising!
Is it possible to get rid of the HUGE YELLOW warning stickers obove the eyes?
Any chance you're getting the 911T?
Hey Nick, can we get a LC500 review?
Great review. I love Porsche, but for 90k I would probably go for an Ftype or new TTRS. Or save my pennies and go for the base 911.
That is quiet. William said turn off the seat heater. Good review.
My 2018 A4 has apple CarPlay as standard!
Why would a dealer tick so many option boxes for this Boxster? Isn't it just a replacement car?
Nice review Nick. I agree with all your comments on options, although I rather like the painted model designation in Sapphire blue. Porsche should be ashamed of themselves for not making the nav standard.
what kind of a noise does the 2l engine make?
This Nick Z guy knows how to run a camera vehicle!!
Nick Zarnetske for a registered sex offender he has his uses
I love the sound! tough as.
Which one it’s better corvette c8 or Porsche boxter?
Thank you from UK Nick; interesting points. The big plus in these 4-cyl cars is the turbo pick-up - they're just faster in everyday driving and have lots of minor improvements over the 98. The big minus is the same 4-cyl - it sounds dreadful compared to the previous flat-6. All the most respected UK motoring pundits like Steve Sutcliffe and Chris Harris like these 718s but can't bring themselves to give them 5 stars - always 4.5. Owned a 981 Cayman S manual and regret selling it. So its's got to be a 981 either S or GTS spec - probably the last Porsche flat-6 with a proper (i.e. not robotised) manual gearbox.
Nick are you annoyed that the Porsche ceramic Breaks are only available in yellow. Its a bit odd in my opinion.
Do a drag race between this and your car!
