excited to try out the Chop Top on our boat today! Thanks for your hard work in creating this content, it's a huge help for anyone who wants to make their boat beautiful again.
WOW! super happy seeing a pro working this magic! Question if I may please ... Would this product be good tp cut and polish kitchen stone benchtops too. You have well and truly inspired me to say the least :)
Sounds like Farecla G360 (use on cars). Cuts. Leave residue put s dot on a pad and finished out pretty nice. I might try a boat this yr here in Ontario Canada.
@@ericbond1605 if I do a boat this year it will be my first first! Check their vids on the cars. My buddy uses it at his body shop. I haven’t seen it used on s boat yet. But would love to know how it works out! Maybe check with the company via email and ask?
Works amazing on heavier oxidized gel coats if you through a couple dots of heavy cut in with it. Also typically don’t have to use a second polish step if you take there ceramic cleaner wax as protection and some polishing!
@@DrakesDetailing yeah their products are super versatile and doing combos with the products on pads can give some great results. I got advice from someone to not use their classic polish on gel coat though. They said it doesn’t like it but to inseam if needed use the burnout or their slick back primer polish.
Glad to see you back. I have been detailing in Reno Tahoe area for 20 years this July. I was struggling on some boats and turned to you tube and found your channel. I have been using Menzerna 400 Jescar Power Lock and the Mirka Abrolon sanding disc's for almost 2 years now. Hey Drake, first thank you for all the awesome content, I really appreciate all the knowledge your spreading. My question for you is: I just buffed and polished the inside of my boat but I ran out of time to wash it out and apply a sealing coat, can I wait a few days to seal it? Is there any problem that may arise for waiting 3 days to seal? Thank you, god bless and enjoy your Easter.
Working on my first boat. Its kicking my butt physically. Hasn’t been Touched in 20 or so years. Heres my question. About how much product (compound/polish) did you use on a boat that size?
Great video as always. I boat on Lake Erie, Ohio. After using choptop what would you recommend for a finishing product for the elements of northern Ohio?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but can you use this product and technique on rv/trailer oxidation too? Total newbie to the detailing game here. 🙋♀️
Boat looks great! Watching and learning from your videos has given me motivation and knowledge to detail my own boat this year. Question for you. How should I go about buffing over my vinyl pinstripes? Will a heavy cut compound and wool pad ruin them?
Hey Drake, I have been watching all the videos and have compiled a list of supplies I need to do my boats. Early in watchin the videos I was guessing I would do a wet sand with Mirka 1k grit on the DA, then Ardex 600 on the rotary medium wool, followed by Menzerna 400 on the orange LC pad, and then Mezerna 2500 with the LC white as I have a darker color boat, finished off with the Jescar. I am not a detailer just an DIY'er, do you think I could get away with just using the Chop Top as you have described here? This video kind of made me question my stance on what to buy but if I only need the Chop top, and Jescar to get decent results I would go with it as I am not super picky just want a good finish boat to be proud of. Thanks, and keep the vid coming , I love your vids and your personal journey God Bless!
So my aunt has a 99 28ft searay that is chalk white lol. I'm use to using 3m perfect it in tje auto world so I'm not familiar with gelcoat waxes. I would love not to have to sand if possible but it is a matte white now lol. Would you recommend using this one the searay over something more aggressive like 3m?
Phenomenal video man. I’ve learned a ton from your channel and super grateful for the knowledge you’ve shared. Would I be able to get this similar result with a DA and wool pad? Never touched a rotary so I’m definitely nervous to try it as I don’t want to damage anything or eat cost of repairs. My experience compounding is on cars with DA machines.
You won’t get the same results because a DA does not have nearly the cutting power that a rotary has. The rotary is made to cut away the oxidation I the gelcoat and the DA is only made to do light polishing after the main cutting steps have been done. However, if your boat is not oxidized at all then you can get away with just a quick polish and a seal with just the DA all day long.
Love watching your vids, very helpful. I have a black 22' Cobalt and trying to buff inside the chrome COBALT letters. I can't get it looking good :(. Also, what do you suggest for buffing around the small deck hardware where full size pads can't get to. Thanks!
They aren’t necessarily comparable. Level R is a extra heavy cut, chop top would be more of a medium cut on a boat. Chop top lands in between starke level R and starke elevate
Bro. Been using shine supply for almost 8 years now. It's the real deal. 🤟 question though, what have you found best for polishing behind the rub rail on these things?? Currently working on a summerset. Almost 100fter lol
Just bought the chop topand Makita rotary for my white oxidized wellcraft, do you think the chop top followed by jescar sealant then collinite marine wax with a DA would be a good system? Thanks for all you do
Hey man! If you do Jescar , there is no need to do Collinite. Collinite is “real” natural wax, and it doesn’t last more than a few weeks. All you need is a polymer sealant like Jescar. It’s synthetic chemicals, not wax so it will last you way longer. Putting that Collinite wax will only hurt it’s effect.
So does Starke level-R contain fillers? Also how would you compare this to level-r ? Level R says removes 600-800 sand grit & this one says up to 1500 so would level-R be a more aggressive compound?
Yes level R is more aggressive than chop top. Chop top did great on this boat, but if your boat is more oxidized then you may need more of an aggressive compound
I bought a 01 Mariah z275 yellow boat with some heavy oxidation. My question is, it has some pretty deep cuts and nicks past clear coat and paint. Just a much of those small ones but they are deep. Can I still cut and buff like in your videos or do I need to fill those gouges first ?? And if so what do I use to fix or fill the cuts. Thanks and keep up great videos learning a ton from ya! A
is there a limit to how many time gel coat can be compounded before it takes away too much material? Also, same question for motorhome exterior? Thanks for the videos, Great to Binge watch LOL
Haha, thanks for watching! Gel coat is pretty thick. The oldest boat I’ve personally have ever done where the gelcoat had burned completely off was a 1974

Would you chooses Chop Top for a heavy oxidized boat, or should we stick to Ardex or Level R?
Ardex is probably a little heavier, but Chop top is great for heavily oxidized boats

They aren’t necessarily comparable. Level R is a extra heavy cut, chop top would be more of a medium cut on a boat.
Chop top lands in between starke level R and starke elevate
Great video, can you use the rupes Millie with a micro pad to apply the jescar?
You sure can!
What’s the difference between shine supply heavy cut and chop top vs like starke level r and finish r?
Heavy cut by shine supply does not diminish, so it’s going to keep cutting. Stark level R will break down the more you rub it into the boat.
Bro. Been using shine supply for almost 8 years now. It's the real deal. 🤟 question though, what have you found best for polishing behind the rub rail on these things?? Currently working on a summerset. Almost 100fter lol

Yes level R is more aggressive than chop top.
Chop top did great on this boat, but if your boat is more oxidized then you may need more of an aggressive compound
