So excited for this channel. I’ve been detailing boats for years but just got in to sanding last year and have so many questions. But usually no one to ask. You should try one of these bonnets to remove the wax they work really well. Of course you have to go over with a towel later but you get up 90% of it with the machine.
if there is any dullness in the gel coat, you have to use a regular rotary buffer, and a wool pad. Also marine oxidation remover. Most boats I deal with need oxidation correction.
Thank you for the feedback! I agree with you that the floors should be done before the wax, But we always seem to get them dirty again even with shoe nets, So I am very careful not to get the purple power on the freshly waxed surface, and if I do I spray it off. I had someone else ask me the same question

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I'm a little surprised you don't treat the floor after the final clean. I think Woody wax even makes a non-slip floor wax that will help with clean up after a day of fishing. Thanks again...will definitely try the purple power.

Hello drake been watching many of your videos just love it you are the real deal, quick question can you do a video on the process of cleaning a seadek , keep up the good work 👍
GREAT video! I'm subbed...quick question, you actually used the DA and applied the synthetic sealant on the textured non-slip part on top of the gunnels? Also do you ever apply the synthetic sealant directly on the textured floor of the boat?
Great video Drake! Do you detail inboard wakeboating boats? Would love to see a video on a Supra/Malibu/Natique/etc. type boats with more delicate interiors. Thanks and great job on these videos and products!
Fantastic deep cleaning, that is a lot of surface area to clean. Would you say that boat detailing can be more lucrative than automotive cleaning? Thank you for sharing 👍✌🏼
Great vid, just picked up some products from your links. Any suggestions on product to deal with cleaning up a vinyl wrap? I just got center console with a black vinyl wrap and it’s got water spots and minor scratches. Any suggestions on products for that?
You can polish is lightly with menzerna 2500 on a black foam force lake country pad. Just seal it with jescar power lock after using another black for pad
I know a guy who lives near our marina in KY and he details houseboats in the spring and early summer then lives the rest of the year in the tropics. He makes 100k a year doing that. A houseboat is big money. FYI. I should add....hes not detailing in the tropics he is relaxing.
Awesome Drake, your videos are a awesome and very informative. Went and got most of your supplies to keep our Scout looking amazing. Quick question, on the Non-Skid floor could I add sealant to help keep from staining and a tuff wash down after returning from a day on the water? What would be your suggestion? Thanks a lot!!!
GREAT videos! Can't thank you enough! I'm just maintaining my own Whaler and am curious how you'd clean and protect the black rub rail. Is it OK to hit it with the machine pads? Or should I tape off? - Also, you mention not using Salt Away, which has been the go-to out here on the Oregon coast. What about engine flushing? Straight water? Thank you, and all the best!
Thank you! Taping the rubber would be best, to avoid more clean up for your self. I like protecting all vinyl and rubber with 303. Salt away will take your wax off unfortunately, try just waster, and alittle orpine wash and wax soap
Great job and killer information. I've been non-stop watching your videos for about a week now and I'm loving getting all the information, I do have a question that is probably redundant but my question is you washed waxed everything on the boat inside now and then you clean the floor after you wax the inside so what do you do when you're spraying it off you just rehand dry everything and you can hand dry the wax already too? I'm sure it's probably a stupid question but just want to be clear. Also when you're doing a wash and wax on a boat's on a trailer do you wax from the water line down underneath the boat as well or you just go to the water line and then just clean underneath the water line?
I have a boat that has not been detailed in years. Do you recommend using the Griots Garage Machine? Will it remove the oxidation? Thanks!! Love your vids!!
Ima be honest, haven’t had much luck getting heavy water marks off screens... most of the time, a light polish will do it, but it will take the factory coating off the screen... you’ll have to re ceramic coat it, or keep it waxed often. And yes, you can put woody wax on all screens and gauges
I see you use the buff and shine microfiber with the Jescar sealant. Do you recommend this over a black foam pad because its gel coat. I'm assuming a foam pad will not work the sealant in as well and help polish the boat. Thanks and I recently subscribed yesterday and look forward to watching more videos. I'm looking to expand my auto detailing business to include boats since I'm in Florida.
You’ll make great money doing boats! I started out only doing cars now all I do are boats! The reason I use microfiber is the fact that they are very thin, it doesn’t waste a ton of product by getting soaked into the pad, that’s pretty much the only reason. You can wax with foam but use a polish pad or a med cut pad. The black foam is way to soft for gel coat.
Hey Drake, I'm currently working on a restoration on a 2008 Robalo r260. There are a lot small rust stains embedded into the non skid deck. What do you recommend to completey remove them? I'm applying a ceramic coating to the hull and tow rail. Do you recommend applying a ceramic coating to the non skid on the floors and the lids to the compartments or applying Jescar power lock sealant instead? The robalo will be spend at least 5 months of the year in the Gulf of Mexico.
Rust aid should take the rust spots out. Ceramic coating on floors by itself will last about 3 to 5 months, but if you keep it topped off with Mckees 37 hydro pearl it will make it last a lot longer! Ceramic is usually the best option, But to coat non skid takes a lot of coating, usually takes about double the product! So make sure you budget that in. Also, What coating brand are you using?
Hello are you using the Griot's Garage G9 new version or old one? Looks like the older version. Curious on your thoughts on the one I should purchase. Great videos!
Drake, binge watched your channel. Thought as a “Lakelander” and growing up with at least a Gheenoe since I was 14, I KNEW EVERYTHING ABOUT BOATS. Turns out I’m an idiot. (Grades at LHS and Florida Southern should’ve been my first indicator) Here’s my issue. A Waverunner with gray seat cushion. (2008) Out of nowhere developed a speckled black mold. Tried the usual cleaning solutions, mold sprays, even the “30 Second” mold spray that works like a charm on the house. I’m curious if you’ve run into this issue. And if so, will you help out a Floridian exiled to central Georgia?
Great video. Quick question,,,can I wash the entire boat and then apply the Jascar a different day....it's out of stock for 2 days but I need to at least use the purple power and to wash the boat on the outside today.
Thanks for the videos! Had one question if you dont mind...For the purple power, are you using regular concentrate cleaner/degreaser, pressure wash concentration or the vehicle boat pressure wash? Does it matter?
Great video! If you don't mind me asking, how much did you charge for a detail like the one in the video? Im trying to get into doing detailing as a side hustle and was trying to compare for prices. Thanks!
@@DrakesDetailing Oh ok wow! For someone just starting out like me, what would you recommend to use for price estimates (ex: interior and exterior wash and wax is $30/foot)? Thanks!
I would say if you’re just starting out to be around $15 to $20 a ft on boats smaller than 45 ft over 45ft do $15 for topsides and $15 for rub rail downs. If they are in the water.
Thanks bro! If you would like to expand your boat detail knowledge I have this great online live recorded boat detailing training course available for purchase! You can take it at your own pace😎. Feel free to check it out! Here’s the link for it: www.detailuni.com/a/2147504321/GMGkUUpS
I’m hardcore debating on starting a scuba hull cleaning business know there is demand and have the skill set wondering what an initial capital investment would look like to secure the compressor, hoses, cleaning equipment. Have backers but am putting everything together to pitch. Would really appreciate any advice you def seem to know what’s up. Thanks
Unfortunately I don’t have any experience with that line of work, I have seen the guys out there doing it, it doesn’t look like much. Most just have a small compressor on a dolly and a few scrapers and scotch brite pads. That’s about all I can tell ya! Sorry
Great video! Will be applying your technique to detail by 26ft MacGregor, this coming weekend. How much of the Jescar Power Lock would I need? Would one 16oz bottle suffice?
Any advice for a boat that the customer just wants washed every 2 weeks that is stored at a marina. Its on a lift at the marina over water and can't be moved. Any recommendations for a good boat wash that is safe for the water and won't remove the wax. Thank you
Yes! I like orpine wash and wax soap! Also, every few weeks use McKees 37 hydro blue Si02 spray on it, just spray it on and rinse it off then dry it, that will get it shined up and “ waxed “
GREAT video! I’m picking up a boat this week and it needs some TLC. I’m excited to dig in. I read in one of the other comments that you didn’t wax or seal this floor. If you were to do that, what would you use for the floor after the purple power. Also, is it worth it to use the sealant and a wax on the hull? I’ve been watching your videos for the past hour, awesome! Subscribed and liked!
Any time you wax or seal the floors it will make it alittle slippery, but I would recommend after purple power to spray Mckees 37 hydro blue on the floors. Just spray on, rinse off and dry. You can find it in my products video, I talk about it. As for the hull, it’s always the best option to seal it with jescar power lock, it will just wear off very quickly because it’s under the water line... especially in salt water, if you are in freshwater it will last a little longer
You can do both! If you were todo both, the jescar power lock ( sealant ) would go on first! Then you can wax on top of the jescar! I don’t ever use wax, a lot of the times if I say wax I’m talking about jescar power lock, it’s a bad habit that I have. Most people only know wax, so that’s why I say it. Best case for a boat in my opinion would be to apply 2 coats of jescar power lock, and top it with mckees 37 hydro blue! Mckees 37 is an Si02 ceramic spray.
I understand that thier are some detailers out there that assume they know everything you need to know because they simply have a RUclips channel..but I wish I could show you a truly filthy.."light a match and burn it" type of boat detail and have it look near as new as new can be..many boats come with ware n tare and it would be unrealistic to assume a detailer is going to wave a magic wand and fix damage parts and aesthetics that demand attention from other fabricators or boat specialists..We specialize in the care and look of any automobile..boat..motorcycle or airplane..doesn't matter..Quality..discipline..ethics and performance are key..I respect your business and the fact that your a detailer..because Detailing is NOT for sissies..PERIOD!..But I also have to be brutally honest and tell you that this video does show steps and how to's but when it comes to an absolutely dreadful boat that's brought back to a pearl..this DOES NOT show that..if youd like to see some REAL filthy boats and the after photos..or just simply see the work we do..thier are thousands of BEFORE & AFTER photos..from oxidation removal..engine detail..headlight restoration..Motorcycles..RV's..SUV's..Off road vehicles..boats..paint touch up..interior blast outside to paint correction and Pearl upon PEARL results..go Facebook and type in ALL PLATINUM MOBILE DETAILING..If anything..this vid inspires me to create my own channel and show some REAL grind! Dont get me wrong..we too do boats that simply need nothing more then a wash and wax..but I have yet to see ANYONE do a totally FUC$#D Boat and bring it back to a PEARL..if you wanna see what it looks like..you know where to go! Thanks!😊😉
I just watched all of your videos And I subscribe to your channel, I’ve been a detailer for a few years now I’ve recently been getting into boats, I have a job coming up to 25 foot boat in the boat house very little room to work around it, I was wondering if you think it’s OK instead of washing the boat Do you think I I can just wipe it down by spraying some degreaser diluted with water? I can’t pull the boat out and I don’t want to get soap and water all over his nice boat house walls, Also I’m gonna be using Maguires marine wax Not sure if you’ve ever used it but I’ve watched your videos were you wax and then wipe it up later Do you think I can do that with this Maguires or should I wipe it off right away usually I wipe it off right away but it takes a lot more time the way you do it looks a lot faster were you wax it and then wipe it all off at the end let me know your thoughts I would really appreciate it
I would say yes, to wiping it down with diluted degreaser! The only thing that would make that difficult is if the boat is really dirty... if the boat is practically spotless then sure that will work. As for the wax, I have never had any issues with letting other waxes sit before taking it off, you should be fine! Thanks for the comment!
Hey man, I’m from Robertsdale and I am also an avid detailer. I was wondering if I could get in touch with you about maybe helping with the boats at sportsman. I’m looking to learn as much as possible.
So many of my boats have snap in mats. So, I always have that extra step. I found a lot of these mats are breaking down. It is such a mess. I’m not sure if it’s from them getting wet or if someone isn’t rinsing them properly. W

Drake's Detailing what tool would you recommend to be able to use both products and what type of pad? Never done any of this before learning from your videos
We are boat owners that want to protect our investment. We’ve enjoyed your video’s....one question. I bought my husband the Flex 80 and the Flex 8-125 18.0. Do we need the Griot’s garage too? Also our bottom boat is painted black but gets white streaks in it from cleaning. What should I do to clean those up or avoid them all together?
Thanks for watching, If you have a Flex 8-125 18.0 you don't need the griots machine. as for white streaks, the best thing you can do is keep your hull waxed. that will minimize the streaks. What year is your boat? when you rub your boat, do you get a white powder or chalk on you hand?
Drake enjoyed your testimony. Question, got a new Chaparral 267 ssx well 8 months old, fresh water. Want to do a polymer and wondering tools of the trade and which vid should I watch. Cheers from texas
Hey bro! If it’s just a polymer, I would use a DA with a microfiber pad with Starke Hyperhold. This video is a tad outdated because I have now switched to Starke Hyperhold! m.ruclips.net/video/mji0TEhkr3w/видео.html
Have you ever put a microfiber pad on a dual action or on one of those telescoping rods to be used only for wiping off compound or wax? I feel that would be easier on the arms. Just curious if that's a realistic option or not.
To sum up the question better. Can you use a microfiber pad on a dual action to make the wipe up process faster? Instead of just elbow grease and towels.
I clean houses and I was asked to detail a boat. This looks like a great teaching tool for me to start with. Thank you

Hey bro! Absolutely! It’s a whole different ball game.
Could you do a video on detailing startup business steps? Whats the average you can make in a week?
Sure! I’ll see if I can get something out like that here in the new few weeks!
I know a guy who lives near our marina in KY and he details houseboats in the spring and early summer then lives the rest of the year in the tropics. He makes 100k a year doing that. A houseboat is big money. FYI. I should add....hes not detailing in the tropics he is relaxing.
🔥🔥🔥😎
Awesome Drake, your videos are a awesome and very informative. Went and got most of your supplies to keep our Scout looking amazing. Quick question, on the Non-Skid floor could I add sealant to help keep from staining and a tuff wash down after returning from a day on the water? What would be your suggestion? Thanks a lot!!!
yes you can use the jescar power lock on the non skid! top it with mckees 37 hydro pearl!
What is “303”
Great video- any advice on cleaning a bilge? My boat has twin I/Os and sits in a slip.
No, you’ll need a makita rotary and wool pads to remove the oxidation. The griots is good or light polishing, waxing and sanding
Great videos. Anyway to get the water spots off my simrad screen? Can you put the woody wax on the screen? Thanks
Ima be honest, haven’t had much luck getting heavy water marks off screens... most of the time, a light polish will do it, but it will take the factory coating off the screen... you’ll have to re ceramic coat it, or keep it waxed often.
And yes, you can put woody wax on all screens and gauges
Drake's Detailing thanks keep up the good work. Your videos and links are the most helpful thing I have come across. 👍🏻
Thank you!! I have a lot more coming! If you want daily tips and tricks follow me on Instagram @drakes.detailing
What are the best options for removing scratches from a cowling and polishing a cowling?
Thanks!
You can use a medium cut compound like starke elevate with a wool pad on a rotary. Follow up with a foam pad to remover swirls
Do you use a microfiber brush for the gelcoat when doing the soap down or a soft bristle brush?
Just a soft bristle brush
If you can find the older one get that one, it’s better in my opinion
Awesome videos! Quick question, what is your dilution ratio for the purple power??
usually about 50/50
Drake, binge watched your channel. Thought as a “Lakelander” and growing up with at least a Gheenoe since I was 14, I KNEW EVERYTHING ABOUT BOATS. Turns out I’m an idiot. (Grades at LHS and Florida Southern should’ve been my first indicator)
Here’s my issue.
Hey bro! Thanks for watching!
I’d try purple power with a magic eraser. Lately at the seat with the eraser in the purple power.
Great site for DYS. I HAVE A ROBLEM how do you get at the front of the bridge on a Sea Ray 380 AC to buffer, polish and
You’ll need suction cups or a rope and harness.
Watch my video on how to buff the brow
This was absolutely helpful. What advice can you give someone like myself looking to start up a boat detailing and winterizing company?
Hey Matt, just seeing this comment. Did you ever pursue the boat detailing company? Thinking of starting mine as well here in South Florida.
Great video. Quick question,,,can I wash the entire boat and then apply the Jascar a different day....it's out of stock for 2 days but I need to at least use the purple power and to wash the boat on the outside today.
Absolutely!
Thanks for the videos! Had one question if you dont mind...For the purple power, are you using regular concentrate cleaner/degreaser, pressure wash concentration or the vehicle boat pressure wash? Does it matter?
It just says industrial concentrate
Well done for a beautiful boat ..Thanks for sharing
Great video! If you don't mind me asking, how much did you charge for a detail like the one in the video? Im trying to get into doing detailing as a side hustle and was trying to compare for prices. Thanks!
This video was about $1300
@@DrakesDetailing Oh ok wow!
@@DrakesDetailing sounds good I will do that! Last question, but how would you recommend advertising if I'm starting from scratch?
What’s your advertising budget?
Just got a detailing job! Thank you so much
Awesome! goodluck!
@@DrakesDetailing much appreciated! Possible to do a video on starting your own detailing business? What you need to start?
Excellent simplified work sir!
Thank you for watching!
Watch those magic erasers on highly polished gel coat. I used them once and found they dulled the gelcoat.
👍🏻
Great work dude!! I own a mobile detailing business and am going to do my first boat. This helped a lot thanks
Thanks bro! If you would like to expand your boat detail knowledge I have this great online live recorded boat detailing training course available for purchase! You can take it at your own pace😎. Feel free to check it out! Here’s the link for it: www.detailuni.com/a/2147504321/GMGkUUpS
Great process. What Purple Power do you use?
It’s a brand name cleaner, it can be found at Walmart, Home Depot, ace hardware, etc.
You should be able to seal your boat about 4 times or more with that 16 oz bottle
@@DrakesDetailing ok thanks. I just want to make sure its eco friendly and OK to be in the water. Thank you
@@andrews1982 Look up igl product! they are all eco friendly
Thank you for subscribing!!
Drake's Detailing do you wax it AND seal it? If so, what goes first and what wax do you recommend on the outside of the boat?
You can do both!
If you were todo both, the jescar power lock ( sealant ) would go on first!
Then you can wax on top of the jescar!
I don’t ever use wax, a lot of the times if I say wax I’m talking about jescar power lock, it’s a bad habit that I have. Most people only know wax, so that’s why I say it.
Best case for a boat in my opinion would be to apply 2 coats of jescar power lock, and top it with mckees 37 hydro blue!
Mckees 37 is an Si02 ceramic spray.
Very helpful video! May be a silly question, but what type of brush do you use wash the boat? Also is a soft or medium bristle? Thanks.
I’ve been binging your detailing videos. Great work! I’m wondering if you can do one on detailing Imron. I don’t believe the process is the same.
Thanks!😊😉
Awesome! Good luck bro!
One thing I learned from detailing is work smarter not harder. Get higher end customers and boats and set them up on maintenance schedule.
You a great job and can't wait to see more 😊.
Thanks, ha! More content coming at you soon 😎
@@DrakesDetailing hay loved the job you did on that potoon but can't find that finishing kit you where talking about ?
What product/method do you use to remove rust from cupholders and other stainless steal on the boats?
Metal polish, or menzerna 400
Drake's Detailing OK thanks a lot I appreciate it and thanks for your videos they’ve been helping me out a lot!!

When doing the first exterior cleaning for the year , what should I wash with?
Just subscribed, amazing work and videos! I'm curious what you use to film?
Thanks bro!!! Just a nice middle of the road go pro with some suction cups and some mini tri-pods
So many of my boats have snap in mats. So, I always have that extra step. I found a lot of these mats are breaking down. It is such a mess. I’m not sure if it’s from them getting wet or if someone isn’t rinsing them properly. W
Yeah, it’s probably the stuck dirt/grim that gets under the backing
@@DrakesDetailing yeah poor boats. I always tell my customers about it.
How do u get the non slip fiberglass clean? Can you wax it?
Yes, check this video out !

How do you get the compartments dry? I feel like they’d hold a lot of moisture and water.
Dry with towels, or leave them open to air dry.
Does the purple power removes marine waxes?
Yes it will, don’t get it on waxed surfaces unless you want to take the wax off
How much would you charge for this detailing job here ?
I detail boats and we charge $15 a foot but you can do whatever youd like
When you went over the outside of the boat with the waxer, will That pull out scratches? Never detailed a boat before and looking for all the help I can get. Thanks for the great video!
No, the jescar power lock has no cutting agents in it. It will not remove scratches. You will need todo a polish like menzerna 400 to remove scratches
Drake's Detailing so will that polish it and wax it?
The menzerna would polish and the jescar power lock with wax it
Drake's Detailing what tool would you recommend to be able to use both products and what type of pad? Never done any of this before learning from your videos
You can polish and wax with the griots garage g9. It’s a great machines!
Yeah about 30 foot a nice price I'd charge 20 but I live in Biloxi Mississippi economy's a little different so that's right on par
💯💯

Drake enjoyed your testimony. Question, got a new Chaparral 267 ssx well 8 months old, fresh water. Want to do a polymer and wondering tools of the trade and which vid should I watch. Cheers from texas
Hey bro! If it’s just a polymer, I would use a DA with a microfiber pad with Starke Hyperhold. This video is a tad outdated because I have now switched to Starke Hyperhold! m.ruclips.net/video/mji0TEhkr3w/видео.html
@@DrakesDetailing appreciate the follow up. Hope all is well you and the Fam.
Yes you can, but you’ll still have to go back over with rags to level any streaks out
@@DrakesDetailing Thanks man as always you're a huge help to all of us. Keep on Bro.
