140k spec car vs a 74k spec car for one, the c8 z06 is nasty in its own league, but considering it’s double the cost of the gt500, I’d say the coupe put up some dang good competition vs a dedicated race car with carbon ceramic brakes for instance.
This is a great concept! So much better than just 0 to 60 or quarter mile only. Please make it a bit better. Put the good driver in each car at least twice - once in each lane if not more. Show us how good these amazing cars can really be after you have a slight learning curve on each one.

Driven a GT500 exactly as is like this one on track, it handles amazing! Z06 is even better on turns and weighs so much less. A CFTP GT500 would have given the Z06 more of a challenge, but other than that amazing race. Two American beasts.

My biggest qualm with that car, the design the most gnarly engine that the Corvette has ever gotten, but they don't put it in a package that has REAL weight reduction on par with that engine. The Z07 option gives a decent weight reduction, but I believe it's all just from the Carbon Revolution wheels, doesn't seem like they went after weight anywhere else. "The best Corvette ever" shouldn't weigh 3700lbs lol.
I would like to see Ford make the GT more affordable as in the Corvette price range with higher production numbers. Then we would have a true Corvette rival that is more accessible. Maybe that takes the "specialness" away from the GT, but what's the point of a super low volume car that nobody actually drives or sees on the road?
The Ford Gt is one of the coolest American cars. I also wish I could see one in the road. The corvette is a great car, however they aren’t as special as a GT.
@@Clooger-i prefer vettes but its not really a fair comparison. the shelby is at the end of the day like 500-600 lbs heavier and $40k less, plus it starts off as a $45k car which is then modified into a gt500. the z06 on the other hand was developed specifically with that LT6 motor in mind and was basically built around it. being mid engine also helps a ton with putting its power down.

Be good to see the braking stats as well, like if it was possible to see entry speed at the braking cone and how much they’ve slowed down by the turn. This is such a good series hope you do looooooads more of it.

I think a ZL1-1Le would be a better race for the GT500. I can still seeing the GT500 winning out of raw power on the roll back, but the lighter weight and handling of the 1le should make it interesting the first half. Please make it happen Edmunds

@BB-pg5kl no... that's because they didn't lower the tire pressure to 24psi like the GM manual says when tracking them. Auto journalists are required to run door panel psi recommendations which is 35psi, and it beads the tire to have safer traction in rain and the slick portion of the tire stays lifted off the surface. It hurts launch, braking, and cornering performance
That Z06 is a terror. Wow! Even with the 2nd race and the 500 jumping, the Z0^ still out the 500 down. This U-Turn race adds a new dimension for real world performance.
You guys should really consider doing a series like Hoonigan's This vs That with the U-drag and modified cars. This is so much more interesting to watch than a straight drag! 👍

The Camaro tends to launch better on unprepped surfaces. Also tends to achieve higher G's as well. I wonder how close it would be with the GT500 vs the ZL1 1LE.

Great comparison that I was expecting !… I know it’s not easy, but would have been fair to race a ZO7 with a trackpack GT500… or a base ZO6 with this GT500.. Great camera placement, impeccable editing, great sound, entertaining (sometimes hilarious) comment, and a professional handling and delivery of a subject matter which is not easy to capture in video. Hats off to your entire team. On the actual subject, I must disclose I'm a hardcore GM guy: I have right now in my garage a 4gen FIREBIRD, a 5gen CAMARO and a CHEVY SUV. Having said that, while I'm elated and impressed by the CORVETTE demolishing performance and consistent results, I do acknowledge the victory of the pony car in this contest. True to its roots as an affordable high performance steed with a somewhat accesible price range; an authentic contact sport athlete which put up one serious fight; the contender punching above its weight class. The C8 Z06 VETTE is, in its own right, a legitimate world class, top tier super sports automobile. It delivered results according to its pedigree and exotic car status. For about half the price, and much lesser mechannical complexity, the MUSTANG SHELBY GT delivers above its price range and fulfills all the high and exacting expectations set up for it. Delivered stupendous results which, under other conditions, can be improved upon - that is the most impressive issue here: these results are not the absolute capabilities of the car. It's quite a car... no, it is a huge lot of high performance auto for the money. And that makes it a deserving winner in any objective and impartial contest or comparison. Again, thanks for an outstanding and entertaining presentation.
The Z06 has a strange issue with its brake by wire system where it can sometimes misjudge its needed pressure, until GM fixes that with a software update the only fix is turning ABS off. A lot of us on the track have seen the issue but it's quite rare
The biggest advantage is the engine weight over the rear tires. I have the new Z06 and would gladly own the GT500. The sound and looks of the GT500 are awesome in person.
Z07 package vs CFTP is what we need. Or base vs base. Not 100% fair here but good race. Truthfully the CFTP GT500 vs the base Z06 is actually the comparison that’s closest in terms of MSRP
What we need is the Camaro ZL1 1LE vs the GT500 CFTP or Base ZL1 vs Base GT500 in this same format and see how it shakes out!! Mustang vs Corvette two cars in two totally different categories.
Lol imagine thinking that some nicer aero and spoilers would make any difference in the outcome. The GT500 is only good for Highway pulls. It can’t compete with the Z06 when you have to actually start, stop and turn.

To your point, we would've loved to have a Carbon Fiber Track Pack car to use, but the GT500 is already out of Ford's fleets and is no longer readily available. We had our long-term GT500 that we owned that doesn't have the CFTP, so it was this or nothing. Honestly, I wouldn't expect for the end result to change given the gulf between these cars.
I'm always amazed a Mustang is compared to a Corvette when Ford still has an actual mid-engine car that truly competes with this generation of Corvette. I honestly thought the Corvette would beat the Mustang in Lbs/Hp, turning Gs, and braking.
The Mustang and the Vette are not in the same class. I'd like to see the Ford GT vs the Vette. The U drag is brilliant. There should be a series for this! No question the GT500 is amazing.
great video but my feedback. you should've got the gt500 with the carbon fiber track package as it has better aero and tires which would def help for this. and instead of a gt500 you guys could've done a c7 zr1. i think that could've been an interesting comparison
@@halow4that's only the manual ZR1, The auto ZR1 walks the GT500. Horsepower obsessed raced his manual Zr1 against a C8 Z06 and they were neck and neck with the ZR1 having a slight edge. The auto has an extra gear and shifts much faster, and it has a shorter final drive ratio for better acceleration
All that Aero hurts the cars straight line performance. That large wing is creating unwanted down force on the straights. The non Z07 package, would've pulled away from the GT500, even harder.

In the C8 you can look back into the engine bay. I work part time in the service department of a Chevrolet dealership as a car runner. Yesterday was my 3rd time parking a C8. It’s basically a gokart with a body on it. Visibility is poor especially to the right and rear, your eyes aren’t much higher than the top of the front fenders but I’m sure it would fun on the road or a track. If I’m having a day in which I’m feeling stiff it’s a challenge to get into and out of.

I was hoping you'd get the GT500 with the Carbon wheels. Would definitely make a difference. Not sure if it'd be enough but would be a closer race. Also a roll race would be nice since that's the race 80-90 percent of these cars cars will be seeing on the highway..
@@danielallen7384 The Carbon package on the GT500 also includes stickier tires (Michelin Pilot sport Cup 2) which would also help with launching. Which is where the Z06 got away from the GT500...
@fnfastone the Sport Cup 2's are great tires, got them on my c6 Vette now. The Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar EMT's were worn to the cords @ 13,000 miles, and that's with "0" track time. The factory toe-out/camber set-up is for track use, that kills them quickly.
Since you guys had the Z07 package, you guys need to get the GT500 in the Carbon Track pack package instead of the carbon fiber handling package because the Corvette going against the Mustang already isn’t fair, and they corvette had the best package the car has to offer.
Love the u-drags. In this case, it would have been more apples to apples to run the CFTP version of the GT500 (with carbon fiber wheels, wing, etc) vs the Z. Would love to see that match up. Regardless, both the GT500 and the Z are monsters. 👍🤟
They may technically be different classes, but we still felt it was an interesting race given that the Corvette is down on power (670 vs. 760) compared to the Shelby while weighing a few hundred pounds less. You never know!
They never will. Jason Cammissa started this Corvette vs Mustang junk and you tube ran with it. The Camaros on track are monsters, but lose in acceleration simply on Horsepower.
Congrats to the Z06, but that GT500 is so impressive! A RWD heavy muscle car keeping up with the Z06. I would like to see a ZL1 1LE comparison in this format though.
@DJUNKNOWNxx Don't forget the Z06 has a weight advantage of around 400 lbs. That along with the mechanical grip being that it's mid engine makes a HUGE difference.
Not sure why anyone wouldn’t expect the Z06, especially with the Z07 package, to win this type of a race. It has much faster real world 0-60, it’s lighter and handles better. Shelby is a tiny bit faster at higher speeds but that’s about it. I wonder how the CFTP GT500 would do, even though if I’m not mistaken you guys put Cup 2s on this orange GT500. Pretty sure it’s going to be the same result. Cool video though!
to be fair, z07 has extra downforce so in drag races that hurts the top end but the carbon fiber wheels would help in drag but the extra arrow not so much.
@@arbiter1 the braking and the turning is everything. The zO7 is a huge advantage. The GT500 Carbon Track Pack is much lighter then the gt500. Rear seat delete. Carbon fiber wheels. GT500 CTP comes with cup 2s. The aero definitely helps. The 1/4 is important but not nearly as important as everything else. Not a hater. Doesn’t change the fact that the zO7 wins easily hands down. It changes the fact that the Gt500 ctp would run a faster time and move up in that ranking maybe. At the very least hold a firm spot in the position. I own both Gt500 ctp and zO7
Took Chevy long enough to "take down" a 4200+lbs GT500, in a U-Drag races of course 😂 Now do a proper roll race or a drag race and we'll def see that GT500 towing that Corvette to the junkyard 👏
On the old course, before y'all lengthened it (I think), both the C8 Vette and Caddy CT5-V Blackwing ran a 31.4 but I'd love to see @Edmunds bring the Caddy back for a re-run on the longer course.
Great content!! A better match for that vette was a CFTP GT500 - would have pulled an easy 1-1 5 second quicker with way more downforce and stickier Cup 2s!!
Can we please see the GT500 with the track package? It would only be fair to get a C8 z06 with the z07 package but the GT500 is only a base. With the track pack it has lighter wheels and weighs less, and has better stickier tires

@@dj2livinginwheeltime265 I had them both 2022 shelby gt500 CFTP white w/kona blue race stripes and I currently own a 2023 Z06 3lZ hypersonic grey non Z07 aero with carbon wheels the Vette is on a whole different level the sounds it makes and the fit and finish toped off by its wicked acceleration is truly amazing.
The gt500 is an awesome car I can truly attest to that. It pulls harder than freight train and the cftp makes it even more exotic but the vette is just different these videos do it no justice trust me.
Having a 2020 Gt500 CFTP. One thing Ive learned is don't use the launch control, its a joke ! Just have to learn how to launch it As for the Z06 I love the car. Just not the crazy markup Im seeing . Here in Cincinnati Ive seen dealers asking 200,000.00.
You guys never make the match up even… if you guys get a Z06 with Z07 package why not get a GT500 with Track pack? Won’t help the straights but cornering would be mikes better and would probably be a better race.
This is an awesome way to showcase every aspect of a car. Lets the cars with raw power shine and also exposes weaknesses. Id love to see you guys run a final run that is the same format but start from a 30-40 mph roll right from the beginning to eliminate all wheelspin.
The Gt500 is 96k(without the track pack). The Z06 with the Z07 package is 160k. I’d take the Shelby with back seats and is more useable for everyday driving
From what I know base model GT500 is around $75k-$85k, Carbon Fiber Track Pack is $100k+, and I'll take that GT500 as well, I'm not paying 6 figures for a Chevy
You're just making numbers up as you go along. I looked at the shelby when they first came out. Was $168k so $50k over sticker. I wouldn't pay over sticker for any car. The window sticker on the Z06 is under $130k. Fools wanna pay $200k for the Z06. Compare the window stickers. The Z06 beats the million dollar Ford GT to death. Explain that.
I wanna see The E Ray go up against The C8 Z06! I think no one really shows this yet to keep the over inflated value up for the Z06 because the E Ray just may give the Z a spanking surprisingly, that extra 135 pound/feet of torque gotta go somewhere 😅😊
Both cars are bad ass but between two im taking Z06 all day everyday. Mid engine, top down driving when you want it, damn good at the drag strip or road course. Also nice interior and sound

Took me 3 years to significantly improve traction in my 850bhp 10R80 mustang GT. Only when I changed the diff centre to a wavetrac did it change the dynamic of the car. It’s far superior to the torsen that’s in the GT500.
Love catching these races, this was a great match up. Would love to see a side -by-side roll race after the U -drag just to see how they compare with the launch taken out of the equation
It actually needs another type of diff called a wavetrac, far superior to the torsen and it needed to run on say 315 x 30 x 20 r888r rubber out back. If it was also tuned on e85 would of been very close.

I’ve had my Z06 now for a few months absolutely great car. I’ve had a few exotics, but this car has exceeded expectations.

Great race! If you get a chance, I'd like to see an old-vs-new race, same model. For instance C7 Corvette vs C8 Corvette, to show how much the new model has improved.
Be good to see the braking stats as well, like if it was possible to see entry speed at the braking cone and how much they’ve slowed down by the turn. This is such a good series hope you do looooooads more of it.

I think a ZL1-1Le would be a better race for the GT500. I can still seeing the GT500 winning out of raw power on the roll back, but the lighter weight and handling of the 1le should make it interesting the first half. Please make it happen Edmunds

@BB-pg5kl no... that's because they didn't lower the tire pressure to 24psi like the GM manual says when tracking them. Auto journalists are required to run door panel psi recommendations which is 35psi, and it beads the tire to have safer traction in rain and the slick portion of the tire stays lifted off the surface. It hurts launch, braking, and cornering performance

You guys should really consider doing a series like Hoonigan's This vs That with the U-drag and modified cars. This is so much more interesting to watch than a straight drag! 👍

The Camaro tends to launch better on unprepped surfaces. Also tends to achieve higher G's as well. I wonder how close it would be with the GT500 vs the ZL1 1LE.

On the actual subject, I must disclose I'm a hardcore GM guy: I have right now in my garage a 4gen FIREBIRD, a 5gen CAMARO and a CHEVY SUV.
Having said that, while I'm elated and impressed by the CORVETTE demolishing performance and consistent results, I do acknowledge the victory of the pony car in this contest.
True to its roots as an affordable high performance steed with a somewhat accesible price range; an authentic contact sport athlete which put up one serious fight; the contender punching above its weight class.
The C8 Z06 VETTE is, in its own right, a legitimate world class, top tier super sports automobile. It delivered results according to its pedigree and exotic car status.
For about half the price, and much lesser mechannical complexity, the MUSTANG SHELBY GT delivers above its price range and fulfills all the high and exacting expectations set up for it. Delivered stupendous results which, under other conditions, can be improved upon - that is the most impressive issue here: these results are not the absolute capabilities of the car.
It's quite a car... no, it is a huge lot of high performance auto for the money.
And that makes it a deserving winner in any objective and impartial contest or comparison.
Again, thanks for an outstanding and entertaining presentation.

The Z06 has a strange issue with its brake by wire system where it can sometimes misjudge its needed pressure, until GM fixes that with a software update the only fix is turning ABS off. A lot of us on the track have seen the issue but it's quite rare

The biggest advantage is the engine weight over the rear tires. I have the new Z06 and would gladly own the GT500. The sound and looks of the GT500 are awesome in person.

To your point, we would've loved to have a Carbon Fiber Track Pack car to use, but the GT500 is already out of Ford's fleets and is no longer readily available. We had our long-term GT500 that we owned that doesn't have the CFTP, so it was this or nothing. Honestly, I wouldn't expect for the end result to change given the gulf between these cars.
I'm always amazed a Mustang is compared to a Corvette when Ford still has an actual mid-engine car that truly competes with this generation of Corvette. I honestly thought the Corvette would beat the Mustang in Lbs/Hp, turning Gs, and braking.

@@halow4that's only the manual ZR1, The auto ZR1 walks the GT500. Horsepower obsessed raced his manual Zr1 against a C8 Z06 and they were neck and neck with the ZR1 having a slight edge. The auto has an extra gear and shifts much faster, and it has a shorter final drive ratio for better acceleration
All that Aero hurts the cars straight line performance. That large wing is creating unwanted down force on the straights. The non Z07 package, would've pulled away from the GT500, even harder.

In the C8 you can look back into the engine bay. I work part time in the service department of a Chevrolet dealership as a car runner. Yesterday was my 3rd time parking a C8. It’s basically a gokart with a body on it. Visibility is poor especially to the right and rear, your eyes aren’t much higher than the top of the front fenders but I’m sure it would fun on the road or a track. If I’m having a day in which I’m feeling stiff it’s a challenge to get into and out of.

The Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar EMT's were worn to the cords @ 13,000 miles, and that's with "0" track time.
The factory toe-out/camber set-up is for track use, that kills them quickly.

Since you guys had the Z07 package, you guys need to get the GT500 in the Carbon Track pack package instead of the carbon fiber handling package because the Corvette going against the Mustang already isn’t fair, and they corvette had the best package the car has to offer.

They may technically be different classes, but we still felt it was an interesting race given that the Corvette is down on power (670 vs. 760) compared to the Shelby while weighing a few hundred pounds less. You never know!

Not sure why anyone wouldn’t expect the Z06, especially with the Z07 package, to win this type of a race. It has much faster real world 0-60, it’s lighter and handles better. Shelby is a tiny bit faster at higher speeds but that’s about it. I wonder how the CFTP GT500 would do, even though if I’m not mistaken you guys put Cup 2s on this orange GT500. Pretty sure it’s going to be the same result. Cool video though!

to be fair, z07 has extra downforce so in drag races that hurts the top end but the carbon fiber wheels would help in drag but the extra arrow not so much.
@@arbiter1 the braking and the turning is everything. The zO7 is a huge advantage. The GT500 Carbon Track Pack is much lighter then the gt500. Rear seat delete. Carbon fiber wheels. GT500 CTP comes with cup 2s. The aero definitely helps. The 1/4 is important but not nearly as important as everything else.
Not a hater. Doesn’t change the fact that the zO7 wins easily hands down. It changes the fact that the Gt500 ctp would run a faster time and move up in that ranking maybe. At the very least hold a firm spot in the position.

@@dj2livinginwheeltime265 I had them both 2022 shelby gt500 CFTP white w/kona blue race stripes and I currently own a 2023 Z06 3lZ hypersonic grey non Z07 aero with carbon wheels the Vette is on a whole different level the sounds it makes and the fit and finish toped off by its wicked acceleration is truly amazing.
The gt500 is an awesome car I can truly attest to that. It pulls harder than freight train and the cftp makes it even more exotic but the vette is just different these videos do it no justice trust me.

The Gt500 is 96k(without the track pack). The Z06 with the Z07 package is 160k. I’d take the Shelby with back seats and is more useable for everyday driving
It is about a 25% difference in price between base cars.
From what I know base model GT500 is around $75k-$85k, Carbon Fiber Track Pack is $100k+, and I'll take that GT500 as well, I'm not paying 6 figures for a Chevy

Took me 3 years to significantly improve traction in my 850bhp 10R80 mustang GT. Only when I changed the diff centre to a wavetrac did it change the dynamic of the car. It’s far superior to the torsen that’s in the GT500.

A 335 rear at the GT500 would help so much!
It actually needs another type of diff called a wavetrac, far superior to the torsen and it needed to run on say 315 x 30 x 20 r888r rubber out back. If it was also tuned on e85 would of been very close.
3.35 gear? Heck and 3.73 or 4.10 would have been perfect for that stretch they ran.
That GT500 ain't no slouch despite being gapped hard by that Z06. I would be just as happy with either one. Love these cars!
