You guys are just Springbank obsessed 🤩 agree it is a little overhyped but it is a great new distillery that you can actually get, try more than one bottling and you can see the potential that is there.

The Springbank comments come from Roy's chats where I've seen a good 15 people bring up this comparison. I'd have never in a million years gone this direction otherwise lol.

Just found an AD/02.22 a few months ago. It's good and very enjoyable. I wish I opened it sooner as my dawdling caused me to miss the sherry cask strength release.
I shall be on the lookout for more in the future.

The ArdnAmerica tour bottling is something and the youth is well hidden. They used very active Oloroso and PX casks so there's at least the fruit. I would say closer to an 86.
This CS is a serious temptation for me. I don't know how the hype got to me. I vowed never again to spend big money on whisky I knew was to young. The prices are a little less than the last time I bought an NAS like this but it's not my responsibility to help them get into the black.
The greenest I bought recently was the standard Raasay. Holy cow it's fresh! $64 is nothing to complain about in 2023.
By 2030 these are going be something to watch out for.

Oh thanks for saving me $90 the May 2023 version of this just appeared in my local store. Glad I left it on the shelf and didn’t get caught up in the hype. Anytime when a whiskey makes you think of bathrooms and stones I think I’ll pass. Appreciate this super honest review.

If you scan the QR code on the back of the bottle you can get a full (and i mean full) cask breakdown for the batch. Think it’s usually 50/50 peat/unpeated

    and thats why i love u guys🤣
to each their own. obviously nothing wrong with those who love and chase this. its alot easier to find than springbank so there's that. but i was suspicious, i wouldnt buy a bottle without trying it first. i have plenty of smokey stuff already and each new one i wonder how its gonna stand apart from the rest. appreciate ya.

I got this basically free shipping from the UK thanks to a mistake so it was the "right time to give it a go". I like what I got, but people are going wild! This is right now a whisky you mix or have at the end of the night to get a buzz. It's not fancy.

Where AD really shines for me is their single cask bottlings. I got the Polish Exclusive single cask, been open for a couple of months. And for me it's on par with Springbank 10

You guys seem to echo my thoughts on Ardnamurchan... it's going to be very good but it's not quite there yet. This is a heavy distillate that needs a little extra time to show itself, I think. I can't wait for it to be 10-12.

I'm fond of this expression and I've killed a couple of bottles thus far. Ardnamurchan deserve a lot of praise for being a great new distillery doing everything the way we like. However, there's a lot of hype and hysteria surrounding them at the moment. Is everything that's good to be compared with Springbank these days? The hype surrounding Springbank is completely unimaginative too. A great distillery with a particular profile but there's a lot of different styles to enjoy as well. That's how I feel about Ardnamurchan. It's not necessary for us to think everything they do is amazing. I had a cask strength sherry which I wasn't crazy about. It was too immature for my liking.
Is it possible for us to enjoy whisky without it being 'Amazing'; The Best; 'Springbankesque, etc, etc. Springbank has history and Ardnamurchan have just started. Springbank have their style and let's hope Ardnamurchan develop their style too. It wasn't that long ago that the whisky community was nuts about Macallan and a few others like Balvenie. They've been replaced in the hysteria by Springbank for the time being. Let's keep the lid on this trend by saying a whisky can be a good whisky without it being the next greatest thing ever.
Enjoyable review as always. Happy Christmas. WT

    • @topshelfwhisky
      @topshelfwhisky  8 месяцев назад +4

I agree the best plan is to be the best you can. Not imitate others. Find your style... And yes, is possible to enjoy without being amazed but we tend to come off a bit judgy on this channel ;)

@@topshelfdustin3060 Fair enough about the clickbait Dustin but I'm glad you're honest and confident enough to express your personal preferences. The whole thing about Ardnamurchan and a few other 'on trend' expressions/distilleries kind of concerns me. It's not Roy or Ralfy's fault but the moment they say they like a dram large parts of the whisky community go into a state of collective 'group-think'. I often get into stupid online bust ups with idiots who won't accept that we don't all have to think the same way. (Yes, that includes saying that Springbank 10 isn't that amazing that it should be the guaranteed winner of a certain award 3 years in a row.) You and I have had some disagreements but they are honest, respectful and constructive.

@@welshtoro3256 some of these awards need actual guidance before I can even take them seriously, lol.
If I'm to pick the best whisky and I'm told to put heavy weight on price, availability, and consistency....I'm not sure how anyone beats Ardbeg 10, and Mike and I have gone as far as to effectively ban Ardbeg's official bottles from the channel in recent years due to their LE's being horrible value for money. But the 10 is still a value in nearly every region and always on the shelves. But it's nowhere to be seen on those awards.

the single cask stuff is their best stuff but even with years more of age it will never be in the league of Springbank but they are making decent stuff. Where is your Old Stagg Prohibition series review ? I thought you were top shelf ? Are you going to have to change the name of the channel to Mid Tier Whisky ? Grumpy Gav is now the king of Springbank on RUclips but I can barely sit through one of his videos
