    I've always found 9mm to be a little too snappy in small pistols. I for one like 380 for small concealable handguns, makes it lighter and more accurate for me to shoot. Good review Sootch.

      I think the key is how well you shoot a specific platform. 👍👍

    • @bannedbycommieyoutube5time920
      @bannedbycommieyoutube5time920 2 года назад +5

      A big aspect of this people don’t realize is ammunition choice. Different bullet weights, different seating depths for bullets, and different powders (some faster burning than others), and +p vs. standard pressure can make a very noticeable difference in recoil.
      The trick with small 9mm guns is to find the ammunition that finds the right compromise between performance and felt recoil. I’ve found that the standard pressure, heavy for caliber offerings provide the best compromise out of a 3ish inch barrel. I then reload some 147 grain FMJ to a similar velocity so practicing with something that feels similar is possible.

    • @scruffysstash
      @scruffysstash 2 года назад +5

      @@bannedbycommieyoutube5time920 Correct you are. The issue I would then encounter is logistics. I'd be selecting such a niche sliver of ammunition, that it's not readily available. For 380, it wont really matter what I get, it will all already be softer than 95% of 9 mm.

    • @bannedbycommieyoutube5time920
      @bannedbycommieyoutube5time920 2 года назад +3

      @@scruffysstash agreed on recoil, a Glock 42 for example is a pleasure to shoot (you’d need a locked breach gun like that and not a straight blowback gun to actually get the recoil reduction benefits). People who don’t practice consistently, which is most people (not saying you are one of them, in general), would greatly benefit from a 380 gun in the P365’s size range.
      As for 9mm ammunition choices, you could really narrow it down to 2-3 loads that would fit your criteria, then bite the bullet when it’s available and buy several hundred rounds of it. If you didn’t want to go as boutique as 147 grain, there are some 124 grain standard pressure loads that aren’t bad either that are generally more readily available (Hornady offerings seem to have mild recoil (relative of course).
      Then store your choice in ammo container with a good seal in a place in your house that is most protected from the elements/humidity. Then it comes down to buying far more available practice ammunition. You don’t have to switch out your carry/home defense ammunition much, maybe once a year and you’re set for a very long time. This allows you to stock up during good times as well since you have plenty of it in reserve.
      Lastly, I personally question the viability of 380 hollow point ammunition to penetrate deep enough consistently to get the job done, I’ve seen too many gel tests that suggest otherwise, and these short barrel lengths don’t help. Some suggest using FMJs only for that reason. I have also seen 380 hollow points perform quite well consistently, but it was a minority of them, so you are back to the speciality ammunition you noted you were trying to avoid.
      At the end of the day, as the original comment stated, it’s all about what you are best with. Trying each caliber out in a similar size gun on the clock at no further than 7 yards is a good way to see what the true benefits are. Happy shooting 🇺🇸!

      I agree about the micro-9s being very snappy, at least for me. I just "retired" my Beretta APX Carry after receiving my P365-380 and I couldn't be happier. Granted, there are expansion concerns with .380 defensive ammo shot from such a short barrel but there are also some nice "fluted" .380 defensive ammo that is a great alternative to JHP.

    As the nerve damage in my hands got worse the P365 in 9mm was getting harder to use. I kept wishing Sig would make a 380 in the same size. And they did and I traded for it. No regrets. My Underwood Extreme Defender ammo leaves me feeling quite secure. Follow-up shots are a breeze now. I ordered one as soon as my gun store could get one for me. At 71 I feel able to defend myself just fine.

    I picked mine up two weeks ago after trading in my shield plus & I’m very impressed with the P365 in .380. I think it’s the perfect platform for it. 9mm in a micro package is a bit too snappy and Sootch himself kept answering his own questions by stating that with this 380 version he can shoot faster & more accurately than the 9mm. Lol that’s the whole point of self defense. Kudos to Sig & 2 thumbs up to Sootch for helping me decide on the new P365! You have a new customer here! 👍🏻

      It absolutely the optimized power level for a pistol that you can barely hang on to with flush mags. It’s a double stack Glock 42 is what it is. On handgun hero their slides are identical in height. The sig is wider that gives it the extra 3 ounces. It’s just the perfect round for the size pistol you want.

    If you're asking "what's the point???" then this isn't the pistol for you. It's for people who have issues dealing with the recoil of a 9mm. Female users, elderly people, and those with physical or medical issues are the ones who are going to be interested in this pistol. The LCP Max may look more size-efficient but it recoils more. This gives those folks a compact 11-shot pistol that's actually easy to operate and shoot.

My first shot with the pistol with 100 grain fmj (sig sauer elite performance) 15 yards dead center head shot. It only was a little low Poa/poi with +p underwood and even then the groups were ridiculous. I love carrying this. Lightweight, disappears under a shirt and 12+1 underwood extreme defenders or XTPs I don’t feel under gunned. I won’t sell my 42 but this 365/380 will be fired a lot more. It’s just fun

    Considering there's not much of an energy difference between 380 and 9mm, and handguns aren't very good at stopping threats anyway, if you find a 380 load that penetrates deep enough, an argument could be made this is better than the 9mm version. Shot placement is king, and the ability to put more rounds, more accurately, into a threat with this is pretty compelling.

      @@TheKalkara131 possibly depends on where, but 150ft lbs is more than an additional .22lr round shot from a rifle or two additional.22lr rounds shot from a short barrel pistol. I can unholster while in my pocket turn it and aim for a real upfront and personal defense while never leaving the pocket. I’m 68 and as that I’m a target everywhere. I use a cane or walker, so it screams an easy target. Not! Between a 365 XL and that one I feel safe. It’s a choice, yes. But the 365 is more comfortable to me after it’s drawn and definitely at the range. They are two different guns and a different purpose for the same reason. Self-defense. Oh my LC-9 is narrower in the handgrip and the sights stink. But I point that, I’m not range shooting it and the triggers horrible.

    Ruger pretty much owns the micro .380 market and has for a decade. I don’t see sales of a .380 P365 coming anywhere close to the 9mm but it’s costing Sig virtually nothing but a barrel swap and minor mag mod. It’s not like they are having to redesign the pistol and it is going to appeal to a certain segment of the market. I have a Glock 42 with the Vicker’s tactical +2, which is a terrific summer and light clothing carry piece.

    Nice one! Personally, I've been all over the place with this P365 business. I tote around a LCP Max (normally aiwb), which my wife intends to appropriate when she gets her CCL. She really likes the little LCP...whereas I, I'm not in love with it. But it boils down to shooting experience really, and I got a bit more than her, so I know the difference between a snappy little bastard and a pleasant shooter. Whereas my wife, with her limited trigger time, all pistols >.22 are hand-help cannons to her. I'm sure her perceptions will change as she shoots more, but in any case, for now she shoots the Max pretty well, and likes it, and I don't (although I do like it WAY more with the 12 round mag)...hence my LCP Max is gonna have a new owner.
    So anyways, back to the P365, I was looking into one for my next carry pistol, but which one? I went studying at RUclips/Reddit university for the answer. Per reports so far, the base model is yet another snappy little effer, although a 9mm now. Things seem to improve somewhat with a 12 round mag or the X frame. And the X model seems the plateau, as the XL model's added benefit in size is countered by the heavier slide slapping back...so basically on par with the X-frame. Hmm, decisions decisions, but then P365-.380 enters the chat?
    Btw, the .380 round ain't no slouch, at least with Hornandy Critical Defense or Underwood Xtreme Defender representing. Either one of those rounds will absolutely tear a dude's chest up just fine, especially considering the higher likelyhood of accurate followup shots with the .380's lighter recoil.
