Ruger is a great choice, the price is good, reliability is good, ease of use and maintenance is good, capacity is good and the only issue I had with it was the thumb safety, but it’s well designed and with a little practice not a big deal.

Highest recommendations on the Security 380, my wife loves hers. 100% reliable with all ammo types (Winchester, Blazer, Federal, Armscor, Fiocchi and others). The easy operation is great for her and it's easy to shoot. I actually enjoy shooting it as well and it feels great in the hand.
That said I would love to have her try the P365 380.

Great comparison. I bought the Ruger Security 380 for my wife. I absolutely love the way it shoots and could not be more pleased. Long ago I debated between the Sig P365 380 and the Ruger LCP Max. Tough decision but I eventually went with the LCP Max.

After about six months of research, I chose the Ruger Security 380 for my wife (we're old folks, and she cannot handle the smaller, concealable 9mm's), but I tell ya what, I sure like the way that gun feels in my hand(s). It's a perfect size and weight. I've been a Ruger (two other Ruger handguns and a Ruger PC Carbine) fan for a while, and this weapon reaffirms my trust in the brand.

I'm really glad Ruger actually made this pistol very affordable unlike Sig. Sig and other very popular brand firearms are like Harley's your just buying the name brand overpriced firearm. I think gun manufacturers are getting way too carried away over pricing their products these days.

The Glock 42 & Sig 365 380 are the ones I recommend for people wanting a .380 for carry.
For range toys, I like the S&W EZ Performance Center & the new Beretta.
I've also heard good things about the Girsan with the tip up barrel.

    I shot a fellows Ruger Security 380
Amazing light rack .. crazy light
    With Remington 95gr FNFMJ
fast flat shooting.. even with my first mag .. I was able to shoot fast and accurately… 16rds in a 8 inch paper plate at 8yds .. at very fast rate
I found double taps was fast and accurate.. also a few Mozambiques
Shoots much better than my LCP Max
I think Ruger definitely has a winner here
But I feel they should have we with the Max 9 size pistol for this build
From what I understand Taurus is coming out with a GX4 & GX4XL in 380 acp
    Which will be 11rd & 13rd capacity

Considering the price I'd go with the Ruger I'm not much on sig anyway. They're 22. Had problems with leading in the barrel which I haven't heard anymore on but they put stuff out there and they don't have it fully tested. There's no reason why a barrel would. It should let up like that when there 's right out of the box and quite a few different firearms a hair and see any more on it now and they had drop issues and they are expensive. A lot more expensive and the finish on the Ruger is better. I would like to have a opticut but they were shooting for a bargain gun and his blacksoxide which to me is a good idea

I have a. 365 and a 320, both with external safety. I want the external safety because the trigger pull is light.
My da/sa Sigs have no need of an external safety.

Warning about the LCP Max. In a pocket holster the mag release button is prone to depress causing the magazine to eject. It fits tight in the first place so when you "tap-rack-access" tapping the magazine might not be strong enough to re-seat it. I know this isn't a LCPMax thread but other then the fact the trigger sucks the Max is not a bad 13 shot piece. I can attest the 365/.380 is an excellent gun. Very good capacity, excellent trigger, very soft shooting, very dependable. I have both .380 and 9mm ones and love both.

For me the reason I bought a .380 was to get the smallest pistol I could while avoiding rimfire ammunition. I bought two. A Ruger LCP .380 (the original design, not the LCP II) and a Taurus TCP 738, more commonly known as a TCP .380. To the best of my knowledge, these are the two smallest .380 pistols ever made. And they both work just fine.

Lotsa ppl knock .380 but i have tendon damage in my rt hand and the Lite Rack system in Ruger made choice for me but overall the Sig is a lil nicer better made gun. Hard to beat the price on Ruger too, got mine for $340 tax and all.

    • @scooter5940
      @scooter5940 9 месяцев назад +1

People who knock the 380 are fools who lack a frame of reference. Just because a caliber is not right for them doesn’t mean it isn’t right for everyone. I have all 9mms except for an LCP Max, which serves a specific need for me. But, as I age, I can see expanding my 380 collection. I helped my older sister with a S&W 380 EZ, but the Ruger looks like a solid choice and a great value.

I definitely take the security 380 over the Sig. Sig's quality control has taken a hit lately. At least with Ruger I know I'm not gonna get jerked around *IF* I need to use their service. Of course the Security 380 itself is a pretty nice gun. The smaller mag and grip makes it easier to conceal and even pocket carry depending on what you are wearing. It's not straight blowback so despite the weight it's still VERY easy to shoot.
The larger mag and grip sleeve let's you have more ammo and have an easier time shooting if you want to carry a larger gun without buying a larger gun. The sights are pretty good out of the box and there's metal protecting the fiber optic. Gun's very easy to rack. So good for anybody. Could basically make this the communal pistol for your household. It's also cheaper than the Sig despite having more going for it out of the box.
Only dings on the pistol would be lack of optics cut (probably not doable with all the weight they shaved off the slide) if you care about that. And the finish on the slide probably isn't as good as the Sig's, but it's definitely better than the crap they've been using on the EC9 and the LCPs, haven't noticed any rust on mine so far during this humid Appalachian summer. And maybe the takedown? It's not a hard gun to take apart. And realistically most people are going to just lock the slide back and run a bore snake a few times and call it a day unless they think it's really dirty.
I don't hate Sig but there's been too much crap happening with their guns lately for me to trust them at this point. The Security 380 is just a better deal overall.
EDIT Oh yeah the Pic rail. Forgot about that. Don't have to worry about buying proprietary stuff can just buy whatever and then have a night stand gun and CCW all in one.

On the note of hand strength being an issue for the 365, that's another benefit of being optic ready. The optic gives you MUCH better leverage or can even be racked against an object. It's not lite rack like the security or the EZ but it has it's own workaround

Unlike most Rugers being overpriced, the decision to price this gun so reasonably was a shrewd decision. Rightly or wrongly, my perception has always been that the level of long term durability of some Ruger pistols, lacked a little. As compared to most S&W, Walther, Beretta, etc. I do think that this pistol is a wise effort to market to a demographic that's been mostly neglected till the last couple of years. I'm hoping that this turns out to be a solid, reliable choice. I'm very interested for the first time, since the SR series of Ruger pistols. More choices is a great thing for the consumer.. I'd probably get one for sure, if it was just a wee bit smaller, for maximum concealability. I'm thinking that the G42, though low capacity, is probably the best for me, for the occasional need of highly discreet carry. I have compact sizes for when max concealability isn't an issue.

Just bought a Ruger Security 380 for my wife. What a hunk of junk. I am totally disappointed. Won't run more than a round at a time -- malfunctions consistently. Failures to feed, eject and go into battery. Tried cleaning it, the feed ramp and multiple ammo types to no avail. Going to Ruger for hopefully a replacement. Very, very disappointed in this Ruger firearm.
