    I’m 78, and though I can still handle a 9mm, this Security 380 is so much more fun to shoot. I’ve had it for a month or so now and absolutely love it. I’ll keep one of my 9mm’s but the rest are going up for sale. Shop around if you want one of these; I paid $299 for mine.

    I bought one of these a while back, and I have to say it is one of my favorite centerfire guns now.
    My 365 9mm feels better in my hand, but I actually shoot this better and quicker due to the less recoil.
    With a .380, you only give up (on average) about 2 inches of penetration, and somewhere between 1/8" to 3/16" inch expansion.
    However, you also lower the chances of overpenetration and injuring someone beyond your intended target.
    Over-all, I am comfortable giving up those minor advantages in exchange for more accuracy and quicker shots on target. This is my EDC carry gun now that I had a holster built for it. (OWB kydex from Rennaissance Firearms)
    This gun is super easy to rack and has very light recoil also. Anyone with a weaker grip strength or anyone that is recoil sensitive should look at one of these.
    Cheers!

    I have about 700 rounds thru mine with no issues, I am 68. My caliber of choice for range fun is 45 acp but the security 380 is a lot fun also. I did carry it once, although much larger and heavier than my lcp max, it is much lighter than my m&p shield 45, cz rami and 3” 45 acp desert eagle although a little larger. My recommendation is if you come across one, buy it.

    Ruger was smart with this one, making it compatible with existing Security-9 Compact holsters. I'm pretty sure the lowers are exactly the same and the slide is similar enough to cause no fit issues. Anyone who already has an S-9c will be ready to carry right out of the box, and those buying in for the first time will not have to go custom or wait for the market to catch up. That's money in the bank.

    I think Ruger made this to go head to head with the M&P 380 Shield EZ. It’s about the same size but has more capacity. It having a rail and being bigger than the Ruger LCP Max makes it a better option as a home defense firearm chambered in 380 acp.

    Good review. Now I need to decide between this one and the Bersa Thunder 380 plus. Kind of leaning towards the Ruger if for no other reason then it comes with (now I thought it had 3 15 round mags but you say only 2 and one of them is a 10 round), going to have to look into that and the Bersa only one (the mags are close to $50 each). I do like the Bersa's all metal frame and I like DA/SA guns. But the Ruger is about half the price and that is something to consider. Sigh Decisions, Decisions. Thanks for the review, keep up the good work.

    It looks nice. One issue I have with small pistols is I am left handed and have several 380 pistols that don't have good left handed holster options. I'm so accustomed to having the mag release on the left side that I don't think moving it on some pistols would be useful. I cannot carry my S&W bodyguard .380 in a waist holster or ankle holster because the mag releases so easily and a pistol without a mag is not a situation I want to be in when I need the pistol. Also I found the laser gets turned on every time it goes in or out of the holsters. The laser is useless but the battery just will not die! A red dot on the ground aside my foot isn't something I want to explain. I do carry it in a gun pocket in my vest when I am on my motorcycle and sometimes in a holster shirt. I also have arthritis in both hands so an easy slide with good gripping area and not to stiff a recoil spring looks tempting...if my state approves it on it's multiple rosters! In winter however I carry a 9 or 45 in a larger frame.

    • @XRinger
      @XRinger 9 месяцев назад

      You need a better holster for that BG380. My IWB holster covers up the mag release button.

    • @moushunter
      @moushunter 9 месяцев назад

      @@XRinger My holsters cover the mag release too. The kydex and the leather holsters can't hold back the pressure from my belt however. Everything I've tried puts the mag release at the belt line. Even the 2 ankle holsters dump the mags. It could use a heavier mag button spring. S&W is in the process of escaping Massachusetts. I don't know if they have Customer Service set up still/yet. I doubt they make a stiffer spring but they might be able to recommend something. My laser is incorporated to the frame. I could probably gut it but that would leave holes in the frame.

    • @moushunter
      @moushunter 9 месяцев назад

    • @XRinger
      @XRinger 8 месяцев назад

      @@moushunter I just looked at my BG380 holster and noticed a bump in the Kydex on the mag button.The Kydex runs tight on both sides of the trigger guard bottom (also on both sides of the grip and slide). No matter the pressure, I can't get the mag to pop out. The button is sitting inside a little round tent of Kydex. The kydex can't reach it.
      If you have a heat gun, you might be able to fix your holster. Stack a 4x4mm square stack of gorilla tape (1 or 2 layers) on top of the button. Heat up the kydex where the button is, insert the pistol and then push the hot kydex down around button. Forming a little round house for you button. let it cool off, remove the pistol and tape. Besure it's unloaded of course..

    I made it to 1:22 before I quit watching. Still looking for a review for this gun that doesn't relegate it to females and elderly people. I'm an able bodied middle aged man with strong hands. I carry many calibers, usually .45 or .40, but I own plenty more for various reasons. I want this gun because it's 16 rounds of .380, while everything else on the market is little pocket pistols with half the capacity. And, it's half the price of the 80X Cheetah. It will do well as a home defense gun in a particular room, and also as a range gun. Funny, the same people that shit on .45 in favor of 9mm using the arguments of faster follow up shots, shot placement, and "advances in modern bullet technology" don't realize the same can be said for .380 over 9mm.

      You may want to check out the Ruger Security 380 which can hold 15 + 1 rounds of 380 and has their "lite rack" system. Although it is generally targeted for women and folks with any kind of hand/dtrength issues, it appears to be well builit by a reputable company that stands by their products if you should have any problems.
      Hard believe most reviews these days by the "name" brand reviewers as most are suppled a T&E gun to review and you can be certain that the manufacturer has had someone check out the function of the T&E gun completely before shipping it out so that the reviewer will write a favorable review. In some instances the difference between the T&E unit and one anyone else can buy off the shelf can be dramatic. Don't want honesty getting in the way of sales. I am interested in this model and am waiting for my range to get one in for a rental since any gun that stands up to rental usage probably will be trouble free for the average person.

    • @wilycoyote9091
      @wilycoyote9091 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@BenjaminDaniel85 I've had my P89 since '94 and it is hardly broken in after thousands of rounds, a true tank of a gun. I have arthritis now and bought a Walther CCP gen 2 and it is easier to rack than the P89 but isn't nearly as easy as my Shield 380 EZ. The Shield is a great gun but the capacity is limited to 8 + 1. Having 15 +1 with a lite rack system is very appealing. Waiting for my range to get one in so I can rent it and try it out before buying one of these. Think that Ruger has a winner here. I have shot the LCP II but it is too small for my large hands and digs in right where it hurts most and having something closer to a full grip makes all of the difference, though it won't conceal well in a pocket like the LCP. Have no doubt with today's choices of 380 defensive ammo that it can do the job if ever needed.

    My one and only complaint about this gun has to do with the inevitable flaws of any compromise design. Because the magazines are modified 9mm instead of dedicated 380, the follower fits kinda weird. The nose tends to tilt up quite a bit when empty, which causes some weird interactions with the slide lock tab, but it has never failed to work correctly so it's a non-issue. It feels kinda weird inserting the mags sometimes and I worry I'm going to break the guide tabs on the bottom of the follower if it were to pop out too far, so I do tend to pay it some extra mind when handling it empty. Aside from that, it has worked flawlessly with several hundred rounds so far. Softest shooting pistol I own outside of 22LR.
