    This movie won't suck because Duncan Jones is the son of David Bowie and Bowie doesn't breed losers.

    Holy shit this guys seems perfect. You can tell he respects the hell out of Warcraft.

  • @it-s-a-mystery
    @it-s-a-mystery 9 лет назад +21

    He has got a very serious point about the lore of Warcraft. It completely changes everything when the source material has such an expansive world with hundreds of established notable characters and events. They could be breaking the mold with this one.
    Not that I expect Blizzard to allow a film to be made with their IP without having 100% confidence that it will be good. Even with Activision I doubt it would happen.
    Also, ever notice how the majority of videogame movies are made by people who have never made a good movie to begin with? As far as I'm concerned Moon was very good and Source Code was pretty damn good too.

    • @BuffPsyduck
      @BuffPsyduck 8 лет назад

      +Farrell Roll I've heard a lot of good things about Moon. Haven't gotten around to seeing it yet though.

    • @reubidoo
      @reubidoo 8 лет назад +3

      +N Word Joe Watching Moon gave me hope that this is going to be way more than your average blockbuster. It's a very well-made film and I'd definitely recommend it especially if you're into a bit of hard sci-fi drama with a really small cast.

    • @frostbitemn7395
      @frostbitemn7395 8 лет назад

      +Farrell Roll Blizzard is no longer part of Activision.

    • @reubidoo
      @reubidoo 8 лет назад +2

      +FrostBite MN I think he's talking about the Assassin's Creed movie with which Activision has the same role as Blizzard does with this movie.
      I think I heard Activision is even more involved with their production than Blizzard is with this.
      Anyway, everyone reckons the Warcraft and AC movies which are both being released next year are going to determine the fate of a whole bunch of video game to movie adaptions to come, hence the mention of Activision I believe.

    • @zacharyvowles6513
      @zacharyvowles6513 8 лет назад

      +Reu Train Yeah, I agree, because basically every video-game movie that's been produced so far, has ... sucked to be frank, and these two games have a lot of fans and have amazing story lines, so of course Activision and Blizzard have to put quite a lot of effort into making these movies successful. Both of the franchises have a really detailed plot and story, so both of the companies have to option to make a succession of movies, which could turn into a one-upmanship competition between the franchises, turning the three potential movies into an entire series, maybe 10 or so movies of 1.5 hour length.

      I haven't played any of the games, and frankly don't know much about it, and I'm still excited for this movie and hope it succeeds largely because it feels like it was made by passionate people who really cared about it. And that's great.

    • @PauLtus_B

      +FlyingFocs As much as Warcraft gets a bad rep from WoW (though only due to people's addiction to it's success), Warcraft does have an amazing story, and if it's being made as a guy as passionate about it as this, it will be an awesome movie.

    • @AsifIcarebear3
      @AsifIcarebear3 9 лет назад +1

      Brad Reason No thank you. CGI matters a great deal in this kind of movie. You can't practical effect a warcraft-orc, for instance. It has to be computer animated, and if it'd been done in '08 or '09, it'd have been garbage. This is the sweet spot - WoW is still big, we're used to movies that rely heavily on animation (thanks, Marvel), it's caught up to a point where they can make beautiful models that don't give me eye and ass cancer.
      Whether the story will be told well is another matter entirely, of course.

    • @it-s-a-mystery
      @it-s-a-mystery 9 лет назад +1

      AsifIcarebear3 I think you are really underestimating practical effects judging from that statement.

    • @AsifIcarebear3
      @AsifIcarebear3 9 лет назад +2

      Farrell Roll I think you're unfamiliar with just how different a warcraft orc is from a regular human being. Their arms are thicker than normal thighs. Their hands are like 4 times bigger in relation to their bodies than normal hands. Their shoulders are twice as broad in relation to their bodies.
      You can't practical effect it - and if you did it it'd massively limit the actor's movements.
      I'll take modern CGI any fucking day of the week over shitty bigfoot costumes.

      +Black Widow The film has basically been done for a few months now. It was moved to June due to Star wars so he has probably seen it by now, even if he didn't Duncans previous films are really good so there's that. Good luck to Duncan dealing with this now it must really difficult for him I wish him all the best.

    It seems like this guy was hoping he could blend pure CGI with live actors. Unlike Avatar and LOTR, this trailer seems like he fell very short of the mark. The distinction between the CGI and live actors here is painfully obvious. I mean even 12 years ago, the first LOTR seemed more realistic. Gollum seemed infinitely more real than any of the CGI characters here.

    Self affirming & self selection of critics does not result in great movies.
    0:25 "I know that it's good" & "I've shown it to people i trust and whose opinions i respect and who are honest with me."
    Get someone that doesn't care about your circle-jerk to praise your creation then you can say it's 'good'.

      It would be best to listen to the Critics who didn't hate the film. The whole reason it's getting so much hate is because it's a video game movie but if you looked past that then you'll enjoy the film for what it is.AngryJoe, Chris Stuckman, and Kermode gave it passing to good reviews.

    Why the movie will suck: the target audience this movie is directed at is going to have unrealistic expectations of the movie, and because they are unrealistic, they won't be met. As such, a wave of negativity will surround the movie because it wasnt 'good enough' for an audience that is heavily invested in it.

    I hope Jones breaks the curse of video game films sucking. In theory -- things should work out, some games have a narrative that works (The Witcher for instance). One reason is because Uwe Boll directed a bunch of the video game film garbage. Boll is known for pretty bad talent, when it comes to making a film work.
    Thank god he didn't do this one.

    • @Goujiki

      +Sam MacDowell Uwe Boll was a scam artist. I forgot where I heard this from, but There is some kind of German Film-making law or something, that basically if you made a movie no matter how much profit it made, you would always gain a net income of a certain amount. So what Uwe Boll did was bought a whole bunch of video game licenses to turn into movies (because getting game licenses for movies was CHEAP back then) so he could turn them into movies.
      And so basically because of this Film-making loop-hole or some bullshit, all he had to do was actually create a film and he would profit. It did NOT have to be a good film AT ALL, he just had to make one, and basically he would profit because of a certain financial loop-hole. I forget exactly what the loop-hole was, but thats why he made a SLEW of SHIT video game movies, because the license to get to turn into a movie was cheap as hell, and making a low budget garbage movie was just what Uwe Boll wanted, because he would profit either way.
      Uwe Boll is basically single handedly responsible for why video game movies have been complete garbage and why every studio is scared to translate them into films.

    • @sfmacdowell1
      @sfmacdowell1 8 лет назад +1

      ***** I believe it was a patron tax deduction law -- if you financially supported the film industry in Germany. You only paid tax on the profits the film made. So a wealthy individual could fund the film -- halve their tax bill, and claim any amount of money that the film had slightly made, but still not pay any tax as the film didn't make a profit. Uwe Boll fit this role well, as although he has a bad track record of making flops, he still gets those films made, released, and on budget. They may not make a profit -- but they make some money at least.
      In Australia they had a similar thing going in the 1980s -- albeit with a few more restrictions -- such as the filming location had to in-country. It kinda worked for the Aussies -- Mad Max was pretty good.

    His body language (touching his face while making statements and self embracing)does not instill confidence in me. Nor do statements like, "find a way to make it as accessible as we can to a broader audience" - translation, we butcher the lore so that more people will like it.
