What he said about the first year is entirely true. My whippet and I had a contest of wills for the first couple of months so I was lucky. The third month the earth parted. I spent an hour every day when I first got him training him and having him outside. He ultimately became a one man dog. I never had him on a leash after the first 6 month unless legally I had to. Everybody loved him because he was so well mannered. Though I would admonish people not be fooled, invariably they would be. I had a bad experience with a kennel once so I never put him in a kennel again. I would always find a trusted friend to take him when I had to leave town. Like clockwork, he behaved 3 days and on the 3rd day he became a demon. It was like he thought, OK 3 days are enough and now I am going to be so horrible you will bring my daddy back. It worked and on my return, he would look at me quite satisfied. Whatever friend had taken him would always ask...what happened...he was so good at first. I had him 14 glorious years. The night he died, he knew he was going to pass on and he came over to me and gave me a look unlike he ever had before and i knew. He died that night.
So sorry 2 here you lost your amazing whippet, my last lurcher lived to 16 years. So I know how emotional it can be. You can never replace them, just carry the memories of times you had together. We have just got our first whippet puppy, a little boy named jasper. He will be 12 weeks old this Friday, and things seem to be going well. I am open to any advice on whippet puppies.
These are great dogs. Sleep nicely in the bed. As loyal as a collie and as clean as a cat, and they can lie around the house as beautiful living statues, then take off on the coursing field at 35 MPH.
Honestly, he's so right about the first year of having a whippet. My dog drove me crazy the first year but I'm glad I never gave up on teaching him good manners. He's 2 now and the most chill dog ever loves people and dogs ,dosent even bark and he gives the best cuddles.
How did you get your whippet not to bark? We have a whippet mutt (accidental breeding, we know the parents. He's Whippet, Labrador, Border Collie and German Shepherd. He takes more after the Whippet)

One of my whippets passed on just 2 months ago on August 6th, he was 10+ years old and that whippet taught me unconditional love on levels that No human can ever come close to teaching. Marlee was all white with black ears. Marlee was an Angel of Light sent to me in this life from the infinite magical Universe of Spirit to show me so many things. And oh my goodness did he ever show me in so many ways, all that time eye thought eye was carrying him on a leash, but my goodness the truth is..... Marlee always had me on his leash in ultimate reality... Marlee is forever in my heart and eye will allow him to guide me in the heavenly realms when it is time, although eye have already traveled the infinite Heavenly realms of infinite magic and beauty with Ayahuasca. But eye told Marlee as they gave the shot to put him to sleep before administering the final shot ( as he had terminal prostate cancer), and as he dies in my arms lookng at me, and eye looked him in the eye and eye told marlee that ONLY you will guide me in the infinite heavenly realms as the Angel of light you are.... You are the ONLY one eye trust... and he fully knew what eye was saying.. We whippet owners can read them through their eyes, and Marlee fully knew. Eye am so grateful that eye had a magical weekend on August 4th and 5th with Marlee to spend every moment with him, as he was on painkiller medication. As eye knew what would ensue on that monday morning on august 6th. the the ten+ years it was Magical time of spirit with that animal (the word anima comes from the root "spirit) of infinite magic and wonders !!!! .. and eye always laugh when humans call another human "you're an animal" when they try to put the other person down... When in reality, that is actually a fantastic compliment !! :- )

My best mate used to have a whippet, it was one of the best dogs I've ever known. As it says in the video, as long as they get a bit of exercise, they are so chilled out. Which was great back then, as we were in our 20's and a lot of the time I was there, we were hungover!
I've had Whippets all my very long life. The current one I live with is 6 years old. My longest lived one lived to 18 years old his life was in very good health up until 2 weeks before his death. It was almost like a switch. Most people didn't think he was the age he was. My Veterinarian kept saying it's like he didn't have an aging process, but as we all know, none of us live forever. I was so lucky to have my sweet boy as long as I did and as healthy as he stayed till the end. Whippets steal your heart and keep it forever. ❤ They absolutely are mischievous puppies, but I've always used a light long leash attached to me when they are pups, and I found it was the greatest tool to teach them how to be civilized. They are so easy to teach because all they want is to please you and always be in your good graces. All 22 of them. One is enough for me now at my age. In the past, I always had 2 to 4 at a time. 22 of them over the years and loved every moment with them and still do.❤
Love my whippets! Over 30 years of whippet ownership is still not enough! My new Whippet puppy Louie will be here in a few weeks and my parents are getting another also. So excited!!! Bo got us our first whippet when I was 5 or 6. I named him Maximum after seeing him run once. As impressive as it was to watch my Greyhound run, I believe Max was even more impressive. His heart was in it 100%. Bo if you see this and want to meet Louie, I think we're neighbors. Thanks for introducing my family to this breed. They've been such a joy throughout my entire life.

I really believe what he says. The whippets on the CACIB Nuremberg were very sweet and majestic, even they are a bit smaller. I just think living with one is very relaxing.
Whippets are the fucking best !! If the world was run by whippets instead of blind and ignorant humans, this world (society) would be an infinitely better place. ;- )
Watching this with my two whippets cuddling me Gotta say, VERY accurate. His stories have been my lived experience, up to and including the Dad story at 6 minutes. My parents also two whippets, who are therapy dogs and visit nursing homes. A very gentle and affectionate breed. They will be my companions for life.
I love my whippets dearly. Just like the man in the video, I have grown up with whippets and I just can't imagine having any other type of dog. If you are considering getting a whippet, just be prepared that they will be on your furniture and possible in your bed. Luckily they shed very little and do not have even the slightest doggy smell. A warning about whippets is they are a bit prone to seperate on anxiety, so they either need a person who can be home with them a fair amount, or you need to have another dog to keep your whippet company. Being sighthounds, whippets are also at a higher risk than most dogs of being hit by a car. They lock onto something they are chasing and they run without looking. Sometimes they can run out in the street and out in front of a car. They need to be on leash at all times outside of your home, unless they are in a fully enclosed area. They are also amazing jumpers, so it is good to have a tall fence. I hope this info is a helpful. Whippets are great!
Every time my wife comes home from work and I have a hug on the doorstep my whippet joins the hug (and we do not mind in the slightest), even from the comfort of a warm couch. That particularly is an example of how aware, and how much they just want to be there. If anyone is looking for a dog that is just a "I want to fit into your life" kind of a dog. I couldn't imagine a better stock to choose from. We don't have the prey drive instinct so much with ours, but obviously each will have their own subtleties. Every other whippet owner that I have spoken to says that they couldn't imagine a sweeter breed. One owner recently told me that after owning a range of different pedigrees, they would not choose a different option next time. The most elegant eloquent dog they have had. It's my first time owning a dog myself, but looking at other dogs from a third party perspective, and personal attestation from other owners, I guess I just lucked out.
I love this guys knowledge. It’s so incredible. He can talk me into buying a jar of peanut butter I’m sure and Im allergic. I’ve never paid as much attention to whippets. But now I see how elegant they are
What a wonderful wealth of information you give. I had a Basenji for over 15 years. I am considering either another Basenji or a Whippet this time. They seem as easy to take care of. I also understand that they don’t bark much which is a major consideration. Your video has now made me want a Whippet. Thanks
We have a little boy Whippet named Gino, he's 4 months old and my best mate, although the puppy behaviour is challenging sometimes I love him unconditionally and he gives the best cuddles, if you're thinking about getting one then just do it, using a crate when they are young is deffo a good idea.
I got a whippet from a breeder here in Texas and he's the most wonderful dog ever. He turns heads wherever we go. He's the sweetest companion and the best thing is they don't bark! (unless he get's really excited playing)
Anyone who knows the whippet loves this breed. I was lucky enough to rescue one. It's been 11 years since he passed and I'll never forget him. He was athletic, gentle and elegant. RIP Scotty boy.
I agree with him 100%... such an easy and elegant breed. Very loving and extremely clean. Notoriously food driven which makes training with treats very easy but means all food has to be on lockdown. My boy is 9 years old and iz still as fun as a pup. He is a jedi master in holding down couches, beds and chairs and lives for a cozy snuggle. Also agreed on the puppy stage being like having a squirrel in the house. Gotta give them chew toys and watch them. After mine was about 1 he has never chewed or destroyed a single thing.
I love my whippet. He's my second.. and they are absolutely amazing pets. Sweet, athletic, personable, loving.. I'm surprised how many people aren't very aware of the breed and how awesome they are. Thanks for the video!
This is awesome! I’d love to see a greyhound video as well! Been following for like three years now since it was bully badass. Can’t wait to see this channel explode!
Carole Archambault hang in there, it will get better! My whippet pup is 7 months now and it's been two months since he's destroyed something valuable. I give him LOTS of chewing toys, but his favourites are cardboard boxes and empty milk jars, yaaay!
I am also curious how everything is with the whippet. I currently have a doberman. He is a wonderful dog, but he is definitely the most needy thing I have had. Not sure I want two at one time.
@@lizbelli8287 I have two whippets now and their great. They're surprisingly lazy dogs and one good run a day is all they want. They're also very needy and love nothing more than lying on the sofa with me. I'll always love dobes though but they just don't live long enough. I had two males that both died at 4 years old and a bitch that died at 9.
I had 4 greyhounds and a whippet during my childhood and I miss them soooo much! There are no dogs that can compare to their elegance, speed, personalities and looks! Plus they are just so sensitive! I love them so much there is no dog I want around my kids more then a greyhound/ whippet/ Italian greyhound
I have an 8 month old whippet and I absolutely love him, but he is very cheeky, he chews and destroys everything in my apartment. I really hope he'll get better after the one year mark
@@goodboyzeek5844 He turned 2 in June and he is soo much better!! Still very attached to me but the separation anxiety has gotten a lot better, thanks :)
I have an ex-racing greyhound, and it seems the personalities of the two breeds are very similar. I have also heard that greyhound puppies are little hellians for the first year or so. I am glad to have missed out on that part. My boy is so sweet and even-tempered it is hard to imagine he was ever such a wild child. Italians seem a bit too small and timid for me so, who knows, maybe there will be a whippet in my life at some point.
Absolutely love all of dogumentaryTV’s content but I especially like the whippet content. Any plans for more sighthound or whippet coverage? I’m personally interested in learning more about the emerging breed called the “silken windhound”
Kyera, If you can spare the time and the effort that it takes you would be amazed. This video does not do justice to my personal experience of owning a whippet. With a little ongoing training each day to keep the skills up our dog is well ingrained into family life.
I have a whippet cross. She was a rescue puppy , so I don't know what she's crossed with. she'll be 10 this year and has been an amazing family pet. she was definitely a handful as a puppy, and has always had a very high prey drive. But is so affeciate and loyal that she follows me everywhere I go.😍
I have a whippet and I just adore him. Everything he says in his video is true. There's nothing not to like. They're the sweetest little guys. Just the best.
Im looking at whippet but im purchasing a puppy along with two American Akita puppies. I want three dogs and I want them all to grow together. I love snugglers. My wife said that too many but I said its just enough.
I loove greyhounds! Xoxoxo I always want a smaller greyhound like a whippet or italian greyhound. They are so low maintence and a lotmof them I met even the large greyhound were friendly.

Silken Windhounds
I have a whippet and she's amazing
only can wants more whippets
I really believe what he says. The whippets on the CACIB Nuremberg were very sweet and majestic, even they are a bit smaller. I just think living with one is very relaxing.
Italian greyhound
Owning one is better than what the video says. It's indescribable
I love Whippets! And what a sweet and knowledgeable man! I definitely plan to have a Whippet in the future.
Go to a reputable breeder to get one without issues and you cannot go wrong with a little training and firm frame work to operate in.
Sweetest dog in the world !
man's best friend all the best from one man and his whippet adventurers
whippet puppies are the sweetest
This is beautiful! Thank you for profiling whippets as the man said in the video they really are the secret of the dog world.
S. Aren't they and thank goodness they are too. Dont see them in puppy mills in the states which I'm crazy grateful for
Whippets are the fucking best !! If the world was run by whippets instead of blind and ignorant humans, this world (society) would be an infinitely better place. ;- )
Wonderful video! I have admired Mr. Bengson for probably 50 years too. I agree with every word he says.
Watching this with my two whippets cuddling me
Gotta say, VERY accurate.
His stories have been my lived experience, up to and including the Dad story at 6 minutes.
My parents also two whippets, who are therapy dogs and visit nursing homes. A very gentle and affectionate breed. They will be my companions for life.
Whippets are truly wonderful ❤
Whippets are great!
we're trying so hard to spend time away each day. dad just loves me so much and i love to be playing!!!!!
Another awesome video. But still itching for that Greyhound video!
Yes! I just adopted a retired racing greyhound and would love a Greyhound video, too! :)
Yes!!!
Sweeney is my boy, my angel, my best friend. I dread the day I must say goodbye but am so grateful to have been blessed with him. He’s the best dog.
Remember that he was here, not that he is gone.
WHAT A LOVELY BREED! THANKS FOR THE VIDEO!
Thanks
This channel deserves a million!!! subs two👍👍 up from New Zealand ((🐕))
Why not 10 million? 😆
Dogumentary TV lol!!!!👊😂
These really are THE BEST DOGUMENTARIES IN RUclips
What a sweet video!
NORMAL SIZED CERMITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Elizabeth Stanley normal size is greyhound size...
Do not say that some cermits are normal sized and some are not, it will not help them grow.
He got watered too much
What's cermit?
What's not to love!! I endorse every thing said. I just adore them!!!
We have a little boy Whippet named Gino, he's 4 months old and my best mate, although the puppy behaviour is challenging sometimes I love him unconditionally and he gives the best cuddles, if you're thinking about getting one then just do it, using a crate when they are young is deffo a good idea.
how good is screaming when u getting crate trained !!!!!wooohoooo love telling dad my feels
I got a whippet from a breeder here in Texas and he's the most wonderful dog ever. He turns heads wherever we go. He's the sweetest companion and the best thing is they don't bark! (unless he get's really excited playing)
What a wonderful video! He is so kind and knowledgeable. Thank you!
Haaa….our baby whippet is like having a squirrel in the house…or billy goat climbing on everything!!😂❤️❤️
Great. Really enjoyed that. Thanks to you and your guest.
Thanks!!!
Anyone who knows the whippet loves this breed. I was lucky enough to rescue one. It's been 11 years since he passed and I'll never forget him. He was athletic, gentle and elegant. RIP Scotty boy.
Best whippet video I’ve seen…love my whippet…if you get one, you won’t regret it, but be ready to exercise them regularly and adequately.
After mine was about 1 he has never chewed or destroyed a single thing.
very elegant dogs
I love my whippet. He's my second.. and they are absolutely amazing pets. Sweet, athletic, personable, loving.. I'm surprised how many people aren't very aware of the breed and how awesome they are. Thanks for the video!
I think my whippet is broken. All he does is sleep.
Beautiful photography and storytelling. You know your craft.
Whippets are wicked cool!! Great friends. Very beautiful.
Super video.....totally can confirm what he says.......wonderful breed......so affectionate.........thanks for posting
All good quality/accurate information.
Our girl is ten months, still a bit wacky but as you say the perfect pet.
I love my whippet. She is the sweetest.
How wonderful! What a beautiful person you are! 👍🏼
This is awesome! I’d love to see a greyhound video as well! Been following for like three years now since it was bully badass. Can’t wait to see this channel explode!
My brother has a whippet so I’ve got one in the family he’s amazing. So sweet
Love dogumentaries! If ever I have a question about a dog breed I come here!
the music suited this video so much, good job!
So happy I have seen this video, just had my whippet 5 days ago, 9 weeks old, happy to see that after a year he will stop chewing on everything 😆
Carole Archambault hang in there, it will get better! My whippet pup is 7 months now and it's been two months since he's destroyed something valuable. I give him LOTS of chewing toys, but his favourites are cardboard boxes and empty milk jars, yaaay!
Whippets are wonderful family pet. Great with kids🐶❤
The Whippet breed is lucky to have an ambassador such as Bo.
Love your channel. What pleasant and informative interviews!
beautiful dog
Awesome finally a sight hound, documentary, I have Whippets
I get my first whippet in 5 weeks and I can't wait. I've had dobermans for 15 years and am looking forward to a different breed.
Definitely the secret breed. Adopt a sibling!
Got my whippet about a year and a half ago and can’t imagine having a different breed ever again
Give it another 18 months. They get worse!
@@cmcc3721 If yours did I think you raised it wrong, raising a whippet wrongfully should not be possible.
I really hope he'll get better after the one year mark
dad is working on apartment help atm for younger whipperoos. how'd you go since a year ago?
@@goodboyzeek5844 He turned 2 in June and he is soo much better!! Still very attached to me but the separation anxiety has gotten a lot better, thanks :)
@@todaXPTO so great to hear! sounds like a great doggo!
I tried to type "Whip It" but I get this im not disappointed.
CAN CONFIRM WE'RE THE BEST!!!!
but don't forget the rest all doggos are awesome champs!!
Lovely video and my favourite breed of dog. Many thanks!
Hounds of love.
This video is really good, I’ve wanted one for a long while now and this gave much information
Kyera, If you can spare the time and the effort that it takes you would be amazed. This video does not do justice to my personal experience of owning a whippet. With a little ongoing training each day to keep the skills up our dog is well ingrained into family life.
best dogs ever !
I have a whippet cross. She was a rescue puppy , so I don't know what she's crossed with. she'll be 10 this year and has been an amazing family pet. she was definitely a handful as a puppy, and has always had a very high prey drive. But is so affeciate and loyal that she follows me everywhere I go.😍
Beautiful dogs. and thanx for the video
This video is so well done! I myself have got a 1 year old female whippet and I am thinking of getting a second one.. they are just too wunderfull
our senior cat would do well--when he adopted us we had an active senior Lab and the cat would wrestle the dog until the dog wanted to come in
Whippet good!
I have a whippet and I just adore him. Everything he says in his video is true. There's nothing not to like. They're the sweetest little guys. Just the best.
Sophisticated - a perfect adjective for my little man.
Im looking at whippet but im purchasing a puppy along with two American Akita puppies. I want three dogs and I want them all to grow together. I love snugglers. My wife said that too many but I said its just enough.
Lovely video
Very informative! Whippets seem like great dogs.
I am waiting for the Chihuahua 🤓
pan potato the weird rat that kinda looks like a deformed dog?
The music suits the video/whippet so well...like if you would choose a song to describe them that would be it.
Watching this with our beautiful whippet Margot!😃
Great and beautiful video! Would love to see more videos on sighthounds :)
***so wonderful***
definitely, they deserve every couch and bed you have...
My dream dog 😍😍😍😍
Another great video ! I'm learning so much!
came here after watch Flyball competition on cruft
Any chance you’ll show more of the giant schnauzer? Tough to find dependable informational videos on the breed
I'm working on it but there are many folks with the dog in California.
Please do a greyhound one! Ex racers are fantastic dogs, I love mine!!
I know 2 whippets that we’re going on hikes, at 18!
I loove greyhounds! Xoxoxo I always want a smaller greyhound like a whippet or italian greyhound. They are so low maintence and a lotmof them I met even the large greyhound were friendly.
