I think most of the credit for this incredible rendition is the Bass player Bobby Vega! A legend in his own right.. Jerry is dancing to that sweet sweet Bass groove 🔥🔥🔥
They really brought the dance out of Jerry that night. He couldn't help but move around and shakke his bones for this one. Well played
It was snowing
@@JD-bl5xylol probably
That sound will never be lost . I am 65 and I have little Granddaughter,s that Love the sound of the G.D.

@@peggy2360 MY Pleasure 🤗🌹😘
Definitely one of the coolest and most moving renditions of this song I've seen!
Me too
Petaluma vets building. Benefit for music in the schools. Baba Tundi Ola tunji. I was video EIC for this.
Hey! Lived in Petaluma in the 80’s. Phoenix Theater😎👍🎼🎸
Cool
I've seen Jerry and Santana. A guy I guy I grew up with played bass for Carlos for 5 years... David Margen. Fire on the Mountain is one the best. I've seen the G.D. and Garcia 3 or 4 times. Winterland and Oaklandback in 60's 80's and 90's. I love the S.F. Sound ! Peace
@@johnk4437 We probably danced together! 😜 Friend of Phil's here...only time my ex was speechless was meeting badass, sweet Carlos! Those days at our California Dead shows!!!! ❤️ Big hug to you!! ❤️🙂🙂🙂
@@trishfeatherstone4549 Phil Lesh was a Berkeley High graduate like myself. Yeah, I danced at those shows to. 😊
❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎
Love how during the second solo after Carlos played, jerry goes diving for the note and you can see on his face how he's reaching for it and looking at Carlos as if to say, I almost got it and then when he strikes oil, he beams and smiles and looks at carlos as if to say, isnt this great! We got it!
This is the only footage of Mickey solo I’ve found. Awesome. Always wondered how he’d sound alone
Thanks for the SMILES 😋
GOOD STUFF INDEED !!!
PEACE LOVE HEALTH N HAPPINESS TO ALL MY BROS N SISTERS ✌️❤️🎶🍀✨🌹🌈
Love ya lots brother. Nice to have you out there!
This took place on 2/15/87. There is a full hour and a half video of the complete benefit show on RUclips.
Yes. Full music documentary is "World Music in the Schools". First 30 minutes is the school documentary with Baba Olatunji and the second 1 hr. is the benefit music performance in 1987. Thanks for mentioning this.
Probably a year or so after his coma in 86. Once he rebooted he came back with an almost youthful vengeance in his playing. Nice to see Carlos without a hat.
Thank you. This is probably the most interesting comment I've received about Jerry.
Hampton shows were just amazing. Watch the Terrapin from night 3 (3/24/87). Never saw Jerry that animated.
This is amazing! Surprised I haven’t seen it and it hasn’t been shared and appreciated
Maybe because he sounds like someone strangling a cat?
This is cool. Think Carlos kinda kept it short n sweet though out of respect to Jerry. If he woulda gone for about another minute on that solo they mighta just had to end the whole show there 😆
Omg Jerry looks happy and bopping around on this great beat, and Mickey Hart is enjoying this as well, Carlos is great as always , thanks for posting. Anyone know if this is available in cd or record ?
The complete music documentary, "World Music in the Schools" is available on DVD. Contact David at dlcreativelight@gmail.com
So ffff awesome!!! Stomping heart beat. ❤
love this..Jerry always could play with anyone...2 greats together
Two flavors of Spanish American music.
At least 4 greats Olatunji and Hamza Al Din were masters that the Dead and Santana looked up to, and exposed to their audiences for a reason. Bobby Vega on bass is great too.
@@mcityline8210 Jerry was not Mexican. His father was Spanish.
@@5thlevelweb887 I edited in a correction. Maybe I should have just left my ignorance on display. Keep on truckin.
@@mcityline8210 no worries!
Mannnn!!!! to have been at this show. 2 of the greatest guitar players ever and to be forever.
Was there
I saw Carlos join the Dead both days at Mountain Aire '87 and a few other times. But this performance takes the cake. Absolutely fire Fire.
The right song for this benefit. Jerry was feelin' good playing with his friend Carlos. Jerry was all smiles.
Jerry was stoked to be alive again
Thank you for this. Pure joy around 7 mins. Baba old n’ spongie and Carlos what a treat!
They sound great together makes ur soul smile .🙃😏😉
Well said 🌹
Tiger 🐅 Tiger 🐅 burning 🔥 brightly … loved Jerry’s smile
Thanks for all the Great music 🎼 Jerry ❤ it was very cool to see you in person!!
Doesn’t get any better. Two of the greatest showman pure talent
A great live performance. Very special with a feeling that you don’t get from studio versions.
Here's the video to the Post about Jerry Garcia and Carlos Santana playing a benefit in Petaluma ... Sorry...
So there were a few things I was going to write about but today is September 13th my ex-wife's birthday now I mentioned Steve Marcus and there's a story about Steve Marcus Patty my wife and myself but that's not what I'm going to do Jerry Garcia and Carlos Santana played at a very small high School in Marin.. one day while watching RUclips I found this video in the middle of fire on the mountain they turn and full screen is my ex-wife Patty doing a snake dance and they should leave it on there for quite a bit anyway that's why I'm posting and here's the link Jerry Garcia Carlos Santana fire on the mountain with Patty in the middle
Peace

Mickey and planet drum!!! Then you add 2 Baytown rockers!!!! Epic!!!!
They sound awesome playing together!
Carlos joining the dead that year at la guna Sega was 🌈🎈🚬😎
So uniquely Grateful Dead and how they folded anyone who played with them into their envelope.
Bobby Vega on bass!
Wonderful performance of a great song.
I'm crying 😂 I miss Jerry! 💜
Thanks for posting! Wow, first time hearing this. Yeah, great solo by Carlos after a very Jerry solo or two. The thing that made it all so special for me--Jerry kind of fed off of Carlos; kinda shifted to something harder and more driving for the next solo at around 7:00, while Carlos is totally on fire playing a furious rhythm. It's like they kinda locked in on each other achieved liftoff. Also, I've seen Mickey Look excited but man, he was ecstatic, playing with this rhythm section.
jerry fed off of something!
1987 was a great year for Jerry! Some of my favorite Dead shows that year: Calaveras, Ventura, Greek, and MSG! He was happy, healthy, and on FIRE!!!
🌹I agree! Friend of Phil's here....those were the days!! What a long, strange trip it's been!! Big hug to you ❤️🙂🙂🙂
Calaveras!!! "Ever So Gently!!".
Mardi Gras at the Kaiser, Frost, oh that Ventura Greek, and the Rocks/Telluride with Phil walking around town with Fam. I missed MSG though made it to the Spect. Then one of my favorite places still today, Shoreline. Back to Kaiser, Long Beach. Then that 87 New Years with Jerry Santa & Mickey Spok back stage!!
My first show was 12-31-79 and 87 was definitely a favorite of mine. What great energy from them and us.
A big virtual hug to you for sharing that amazing energy that year!!
I loved it!
Waaaaa waa waa....love that Envelope Filter!!!! 😜✌️
Cool first time I smiled all day thank you
2022 best video now I vote grow together wow the Jerry Garcia and Carlos Santana what a gift 🎁 to witness this 👏celebration for this time and.event they performed at
They deserve more attention than the president of America 🇺🇸lol 😆
Perez Thomas Lewis Patricia Gonzalez Sharon
Very glad to happen across this clip! Good to them in such fine form & humor.
Its a shame about the bad quality audio, cause that Carlos solo was about as good as it gets. But Im glad I got to see and hear this video, thank you.
Davis Margaret Gonzalez Helen Miller Edward
Good good vibes Mackey in the groove love the exchange between him and Jerry at about 3min
Thx for posting this, this is something I really enjoyed. Jerry & Carlos jamming together is worth the listen.
This chord prog.is like hypnotic...😅😅😅
Was that at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds?
I remember this show afterwards. I finally made it back to the bus wearing only my shorts and one flip flop. Killer hits that night. Thanks for the tasty jamz 💙⚡♥️
Gerry had such a unique sound.
That was an absolutely killer solo Carlos played, And Jerry wasn't to shabby either, Fun video !
Talking bout....love when Jerry does a little dance action....way up...under the rap trap and over the wire!!!!
What a pro.. love and miss him so much! ❤ you all..
Oh how great these small venues were........ Marin vets hall anyone!!!! Etc.. yeah ... thanks for the video /memories .....
I’m sure there were rehearsals but Carlos and Jerry could improvise the hell out of a song.
Just Wow.
For Jerry to be this animated he must have been ripped
Ahhh! That is some choice quality stuff. Nothin too do but smile.
Man the guitar tone is so wild.
Never sent Jerry this Perky, a great watch. Had to revisit it several times just for the shear enjoyment.
Our cowgirl creamery
Jerry looks happy
not bad for a two chord song.
Fantastic.
Did they do Jingo?
his enthusissm !
he likes being up there with all that happenning...
Carlos solo !
wish the sound was better !
thanks for sharing this history !!!
loved seeing him dancing and smiling..
great rythmn outro...
wished the guitars would have riffed over it a bit...
phantastic!
always loved carlos shows..
💗♾️🌞🌄🌈🍀💫
San rafael...jerry
Tis the best ever !! look at Garcia glow and sway to the carribean sounds they are exuding at full volume just pour me another pina colada and play loud aloha
Fat man rocks with Carlos. Jerry would not be outdone by any one else on the stage
Not sure that Jerry was the kind of guy that being "out done" was important to him. No ego at all. Peace brother...
Was this a Cinemax special way back in the day. Ruben Blades was MC, am I right?
😎
Too noisy and too busy… Jerry is trying to keep it tasteful , but it’s basically a train wreck
Which came first, Fire on the Mountain or Burning Down the House? Exact same rhythm lines...regardless, this is an excellent set with a lot of energy. The whole stage is moving as one.
have the tiger inlay on Jerry's guitar decal on my desk. thanx , jrh
Wait, did Mickey Hart tour as Carlos Santana's drummer?
Yo, man, thank you for uploading! Can’t believe I haven’t seen it before!
Jerry and Carlos are you kidding me?! Blissed out....
Throw it down one time, big man! Look at Jerry move! ❤️
Love it! ❤❤
Amazing Wish I could of been there
Santana ho my lord......and Jerry very pleased...
This actually sounds like the Mickey version off of Digital Rythem
Olatunji and Hamza Al Din on the same stage !!!!
I like the dead but I think Carlos plays better than gerry.
Viva La Santana! & The Jear Bear. There's a dragon getting down on the street, mijo!
This is just FRICKIN GREAT!!❤❤
Jerry's guitar sounds are so soothing .. 🌞🔥
That's with Baba Olatungi and Carlos Santana.
that was Fing terrible damn I had high hopes
Jerry is very animated. I think he was digging the conga drums!
Making beautiful music
Improv
Smoking hot stuff
I believe this was called RAP fire 🔥 😳
