Thanks for posting this. My (then) husband and I attended with our 2 month old son. For more than a decade, I've been searching old videos of this event in hopes of finding a glimpse of us in the background footage. I found us at 33:25...he's standing (bearded, pale blue T shirt + green shorts) and holding the baby and I'm seated in front of him (leaning forward, braided hair, white T shirt). What a treasure!

I first saw him at Lou’s at S F, then at SF Music Halll. He told my sister that he was from Richmond, Ca. I told Norton I would Never folllow a lower classmen. Then he talked to me about his relationship with the Anshuiits family.? I was a classmate with Rick since middle school. His older brother was friends with my brother, Kelly took me to my Jr. Prom. We never dated or had any relationship. Many years later I saw Norton at Vinnies at Concord. He remembered that I saw him Lou’s and the Great America Music Hall. He also told me that Kelly had passed from a heart attack. I was overwhelmed since my brother had passed 6 months prior.Kelly and my brother were friends from high school football. That was in June then the comments went out that Norton had stage 4 lung cancer: I was devastated. I have never gotten over his passing. I miss his music.

Norton and I were in High School together (before he changed his name) - he played trombone in the school band, but he had a bandolier of harmonicas that he played in several garage bands around Richmond, CA. I was off in the Navy when I read about a rising star in the Steve Miller Band, some harp blower from the East Bay...

That is so cool that you were classmates back in high school! I read that he played the trombone too in his school’s jazz bands. Do you remember if he ever played harmonica in the school besides at talent shows? I figure he must have been in the choir or school musicals too.

@@BoazKimMusic he mostly kept the harmonica playing to the garage bands, not in school very much. We didn't share any classes except for band (concert, marching, jazz) and Pep Band (not a class.) I don't think he was in any of the choirs. I was a year ahead of him, don't know what he did in his senior year.

@@creativelight100 I first met and saw him open the SF blues festival when he was younger than he is in this video. His father on bass (just like in this video) and I helped him put some stuff on stage. I asked "what are you gonna play?" He said "A tribute to James Booker". He rocked the 88s so well I fell in love with that type of music from then on and found the passion for the piano because of him. I saw him a few times in Sebastopol at my grandfather's after this. He was getting better and better. Then he played at his going away party for college and John Allair played as well. Super fun. He also came to play in my hometown at a street parade. Made a CD of it. Fun times. This was all a long time ago. Still keep in contact with him and his father 🙂
