My mother met Carlos with his band in the 90s when they were touring in Finland - my mum was a guide for the artists at a festival here. Carlos is the most humble and down-to-earth, just a fantastic guy. The other legendary artists at the festival were always a bit late, just to be diva, and the "main stars" always had limousines whilst the band travelled by bus. Well, Carlos Santana was always on time (usually even before his band) and travelled with the band (a very big band) in the same bus. He was the total opposite of the stars, of which some treated the backing band like work colleagues and the guides like servants - for Carlos the band were his friends and the guides he treated as equals, as work colleagues. So if anybody is wondering whether Carlos is only a nice man for the camera - well, I can tell you, he is the most nicest man outside of it.
I was once very fortunate to be checking into the Beverly Hills Hotel for the Grammy Awards and looked over my shoulder only to see Carlos Santana standing there with his guitar slung over his shoulder. I introduced myself and you could not meet a nicer, more open, friendly and genuine guy. He is the real deal. One of the highlights of my life.
That's a sentence I will never be able to say: "I was once very fortunate to be checking into the Beverly Hills Hotel for the Grammy Awards." I don't even go that big in my DREAMS. What an awesome moment!
Reminds me of when I did stage security for the Grateful Dead for two shows at the Philadelphia Civic Center in 74 . Jerry Garcia was totally down to earth and I had a short exchange with him . Fun memories. I’ve seen Carlos several times over the years and it’s always a great time 😊
I was the chef of the Foundation Room back when Carlos first started his residency in Las Vegas. I had meetings with the chef from House of Blues downstairs and we both smoked so we'd hold our meetings outside the back door, right next to the theater. So our meetings were scored by Santana rehearsals ;) (and 5 minute meetings would last an hour). I was told he loved tuna fish sandwiches and to have them on hand should he pop in after a show looking for a tuna sand. So I slow poached sushi grade ahi in olive oil and made the absolute best freakin tuna fish you ever saw, but he never came up.....:( His band did though and I tried to get them to eat it so they'd tell him about it but they were too scared to eat his tunafish! So me and my staff ate the best tuna fish sandwiches ever until he went on break. Making new batches and eating the old one every 2/3 days. I still use that recipe and while I don't sell tuna sands, everyone who does try it can't believe tuna can be that good. So thanks for making me create that recipe, Carlos! Just cover the tuna in basic or Pomace, olive oil. (use any Ahi you can find but not one giant piece, cut manageable sized chunks for your baking dish) Add a Tblspn Kosher Salt (or not and put the salt when you put the mayo) Sprig of Thyme, Rosemary, Marjoram and a bay leaf (laurel), Cover with tin foil and bake at 250*F until the tuna is just cooked through (145*F) Remove and let cool under wrap, as is. Make your tuna how you like it once its cooled completely Break with your hands wearing gloves and finish with a little extra virgin olive oil after the mayo.
I agree, at the end of the video the vision of mr Santana is complex and can be misunderstood. But Lee is really great and without correcting Santana he just floting around the subject... 🙏
Yeah it’s tough, when a superstar starts recommending trying acid it’s tricky ground. I’m an atheist and have never taken acid, I worry for my playing 😂
What a living legend this guy is. Crazy to get your head around the fact that he played Woodstock and is still alive during the 2020 pandemic! He just emanates chill vibes
I mean, sure. It is. But lets not kid ourselves here too much. Paul Reed Smith certainly helped hook this up and the reason is because Andertons is a major PRS retailer as well as a major musical instruments retailer around the world. I love Lee and those guys Andertons. They've done great things growing this RUclips channel and in the process getting people inspired to play a lot of musical instruments. However, they sell those instruments and they sell a WHOOOOOOLE lot of them, all around the world, including PRS'.
Wow! I remember him after his set running all around backstage with a cowbell being worked on like a maniac during Eric Clapton's set. Was In Vancouver 1980ish. It all makes sense now. This was when he was all in white. What a performer.
Mr. Carlos Santana has traveled the planet, then went through the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, exosphere, into the cosmos unknown and came back to us with a wealth of knowledge and insight . We need more people like Mr. Santana, of course that's impossible, so let's all enjoy this GREAT interview and take away many positive vibes. Great job Capt. !
As soon as 'Inner Secrets' was released Carlos instantly became a guitar god for me!!!! It also made me go backwards through his catalog and discover Oye Como Va! Just brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This interview, having seen it for the first time tonight, after the night iv had has literally changed my life in ways I can't even explaine. I wish so badly that I could meet him. iv never heard someone comect with my soul like Carlos Santana has when it comes to music. Just I have no words
OMG, I never heard of Sonny Sharrock, but after this interview I spend all day listening to him, WOW so great. I recommend Sonny Sharrock Band at Lucerna Hall Prague.
Amazing interview! Carlos Santana is one of the guitar heroes in contemporary history and the Captain has done such a fabulous job. I enjoyed every second of this. Well done!
Wow! What an interview. I always say that Pink Floyd's Echoes is the only song I can recognize with a single note but I have to say, Santana's tone, even on a single note, is instantly recognisable.
Man, the way he explains his vision as an artist is unbelivable, that is the reazon of why he became a legend, he is just inspiring and he is able to transmit his voice through his guitar. I think that's the most important thing if you're going to make music of any sort, to be able to speak through your music and forget about the tones, money, amps, guitar, etc. just worry about the message you are delivering. I bet that Carlos can grab a bullet strat throug a line 6 spider and make it sound totally magnificent. (sorry for bad english, i could go to google translate but it would be worse).
This is awesome. Abraxas to me is one of the greatest albums ever. I love Caravanserai, Moonflower and Lotus and the likes of those. And particularly Incident at Neshabur is just some of his best stuff live and has itself massively inspired me as a guitarist.
As I look out upon the red/grey skies of Marin County, CA - used to be Carlos' home - life has never seemed so bleak...surrounded by fire & ashes...what a treat to see two such superb human beings engage...thank you both...
The words of Mr. Santana brought me to tears. We talk so often about people being inspirational, but the place Carlos describes is where I want to go. Thank you.
A very insightful interview. Carlos is an open soul. Lee is maintains his composure so well in the company of modern musical masters, keeping the conversation flowing ; without the dreaded video conferencing talkover that still plagues that technology. Andertons is building quite an archive of important musical history , with the creators as analyst. In Carlos' case, the creator and the preacher. Well done .
This is just too cool , I've been so depressed lately, this has cheered me up no end , I have tears in my eyes , tears of joy , this man is what you call a legend, thank you for all the cool music , and lee thank you
Absolutely fantastic to hear such truth, such authenticity from this master; a real true MAESTRO. I'm grateful for Carlos Santana Life, Opus, Music and light . Thanks Captain for making this interview happen!
I stopped the video right after Santana's recommendation, checked this song "Sonny Sharrock - Who does she hope to be?", and what an amazing guitar player!
Incredible interview. Eye opening as Carlos is being open and honest...love him so much as his music has carried me thru some hard times. Thanks Captain for this.
Thank you very much Captain for that interview. Any interview with Carlos Santana is a master class not only in music and guitar playing but in life itself. He's so much more than just a musician and/or a Rock Star. If you notice, he's not known as a Jazz musician but on basically every interview he never fails to mention two of the most important pillars of that genre, Miles Davis and John Coltrane as his biggest influences. From the world of Latín music he also mentions two of our biggest stars, band leaders and huge influences on his music. Percusssionist Tito Puente, composer of one of Santana's biggest hits, (OYE COMO VA) and pianist Eddie Palmieri. In that sense, I suggest you get in touch with Eddie Palmieri (Puente already died) and interview him too. Like Santana, Eddie aside from being a great musician is also a very spiritual human being, a thinker, a well read individual, a historian, a philosopher and a very nice guy too. With a career of more that 50 yrs, between tropical music and Jazz, Eddie has been an inspiration for generations of musicians. Check him out. I'm sure your audience will enjoy hearing from him.
It's amazing how important the PRS SE line has been to so many thousands and thousands of guitar players,, and we have Carlos to thank. Thank you, Carlos! I'm not going to drop acid, but thank you!
Beautiful interview...I love to hear and learn the background behind great musicians. I love Carlos. May he be healing well from recent heart surgery. Prayers to Carlos. 🙏🎶♥️ Head, chest and belly tones. That’s why his music is perfect to dance to. 😊 OMG the Gabriel purple guitar is gorgeous.
What a guy, we had tickets for his concert in Amsterdam this year, unfortunately cancelled due to COVID! His music is magic! Than you captain for this interview, loved it
As someone who has experienced psychodelics, I loved how responsible was Carlos's recommendation of doing it with someone you trust, an experienced person. Yet not discarting it
This guy is a genious, besides all the spiritual stuff and love for humanity speech he really knows what he is doing in terms of music and all the aspects around it, including how to manage the industry.
I began listening the Andertons podcast just before the pandemic, and I have yet to listen to a "The Captain Meets" episode without becoming profoundly interested in the conversation. Can't recommend them enough.
this is the most down-to-earth interview with Santana I've seen in awhile...such a likable guy, and a long time hero of mine. he's certainly given me chills quite a few times in my lifetime!
People suuure like to talk smack about Carlos, but it's good to sees so many of you guys who get it. He's a musical hero of mine and I've worked with him a lot over the years. I'm glad he likes to share his history and perspective, which is as close as we're ever going to get to those iconic days of Woodstock etc. You're not going to get that information in YOUR communication style, you're going to get it with all the flavor that comes from the source. It's best to slow down and absorb what you can!
Goodness me, I can't believe Lee just moved past the fact that Santana said he emailed Clapton to talk about Albert King playing with The Doors. I wonder if that's a common occurrence. Just Santana emailing Clapton lol. Do guitar heros have email threads or group chats?
Mr Carlos Santana is a spiritualist and he always connects music with soul and divinity....an amazing human being indeed. Thank you for being such a huge persona of our education in life!! Let me add that within 5 minutes he goes Beatles, Clapton, Violin, Miles Davis and beyond....true global musical education!!!
Best interview Captain ever!! Awesome guy Santana!!! very modest and friendly and one the most talented guitar players ever!!! his Woodstock performance should be sent to all!!!!!
Anderson’s new mushrooms line starting to sell in few weeks 😀. Man Carlos is one in the human history. Got a love the man and the legend. He was and is a man with the vision and the insight. He is the preacher.
If you're into John McLaughlin and can appreciate a bit of wooden music, then you have to listen to "Friday Night in San Francisco" - an album where John complements Paco de Lucia, a flamenco superstar, and Al di Meola.
Fantastic interview I’ve loved Carlos & his music for years & years. But to get the chance to really hear him talk about it at length is so interesting & inspiring. I’ve just found Sonny Sharrock on apple. He’s right he is amazing if not for this interview I’d never have heard it. Great stuff thanks Captain keep it up . Cheers 🎸
Lee's face when Carlos started talking LSD 😳 glad it was discussed and not avoided, those were the times. One of my heroes on guitar, fantastic interview. I would also love a Clapton one and a Gilmour one.
A very insightful interview. I’m glad Lee didn’t side step the drug references and gave Santana the chance to fully explain, in the most thorough way, how it effects music. I was worried that in these politically correct times Lee may have felt obligated to steer the conversation in another direction. It just goes to prove that this channel is big enough to not be pressurised in to conforming with small minded do gooders. And for the record, I’ve never tried LSD.
Humbling Interview. Love Devotion and Surrender . Selah Massive Thanks to You and Carlos for your time thoughts and the Flow of where the direction the conversation ended up going. Carlos Thanks for your daily posts on Fb
Amazing interview! Thanks so much! It’s really special! Kind of funny though, I know Andertons is a major PRS supporter. Santana had his PRS guitars ready for the interview. Santana mainly just plays those live. When he practices when the cameras are off, it’s usually with his strat that he bought in Chicago. He used it all over the last couple of albums. I think the “Africa Speaks” doesn’t have any PRS on the album, it’s mainly it’s his strat.
I met him walking on a beautiful spring Sunday morning in New York in 2004. I humbly walked up to him and told him that I also used PRS. He asked me about my playing style and we spoke about spiritualism and playing while we walked for a block and a half in NY. So gracious. Such a legend and a true human of this earth.
I have two of the first-gen Santana SE guitars, a blue and red one. I paid $500 for one and $300 for the other on closeout, both brand new. The blue one has been my main player since I bought it in 2001 up until just a few years ago, and I kid you not, I have never touched the setup on it and it's still perfect. I did put locking tuners on it, but it was just for convenience of faster string changes, not because it needed them. I even changed the pickups once to much more expensive boutique ones, but the stock ones sounded better so I swapped them back. It's not flashy, but it sounds fantastic and is rock-solid. It's so solid that it's almost boring -- it just always works, always plays great, stays in tune, never any surprises. The red one is still like new because I bought it as an inexpensive backup but it's never been needed!
Captain just keeps on knocking these outta the park! Mr. Santana is a true legend, and is as humble to his gift as he ever was. It's always good to see that even with his legend status, he strives to keep his spirituality on point and he's still the same guy that slayed on that Woodstock stage all those many years ago. Love the new goldtop, as the Gabriel motifed axe. Just an o.g. badass.
I was fortunate enough to see Carlos Santana just before the pandemic hit. I saw him at House of Blues in Las Vegas. He was fantastic such a great performer. Best show I’ve ever seen. He is such a real human being.
Carlos Santana.... I just couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this in my notifications! I am so pleased that he is happy and doing well! He is purely a blessing to the world. Thank you, Lee!

I can’t think of anyone who could have handled this interview with such a great balance of awe and cool. Well done Cap!
Cheers 🎸
Bukky Leo is good, afrobeat visions is an interesting album.
What a legend, he’s so on point!
His tone is soooo insanely good
Santana isn’t bad either
Two months from this, still came back to it. What a great interview. I meet Sonny Sharrock here, it´s amazing. Thx Captain!
Lee's face when Carlos started talking LSD 😳 glad it was discussed and not avoided, those were the times. One of my heroes on guitar, fantastic interview. I would also love a Clapton one and a Gilmour one.
One of the last heroes alive. Right up there with Miles, Hendrix, and SRV
Yep, unique sensual sound Samba Pa Ti , Europa , great cover of Peter Green's Black Magic Woman , the Moonflower live album is rapturous.
@@barblessabledon't forget "luz, amor y vida" and "blues for salvador ". These are My Favorite santana songs.
My favourite captain meets so far, together with Guthrie. Keep ‘em coming man.
Lee is english. No need for PC in Europe.
I took a pile of acid and mushrooms back in the day. We smoked huge hash pipes too. We played all of Santana's records too !
@@carpetcrawler79 Europe is the most PC place there is.
@@51MontyPython maybe you mum
Well said, Iron Guns T!!
Well done Lee, and thank you Carlos for all of the music! Great show in ABQ NM a few years ago, great Masterclass!
Humbling Interview. Love Devotion and Surrender . Selah
Massive Thanks to You and Carlos for your time thoughts and the Flow of where the direction the conversation ended up going. Carlos
Thanks for your daily posts on Fb
I’m really enjoying this interview… first time I’ve heard Carlos speak and he’s a very generous and gracious person.
I think the “Africa Speaks” doesn’t have any PRS on the album, it’s mainly it’s his strat.
he is Legend , Love Santana I grew up listening to his music cos my Dad and Uncles love playing all the time!
Woah - superstar guest - my favorite guitarist - thanks for sharing
Carlos is just amazing, thnaks for the interview.
Damn! Next step Jimmy Page. This is fantastic!
Just an o.g. badass.
Carlos . I’ve seen him several times including just a couple years ago and was as great as ever . His wife’s album looks to be awesome 🙏👌😊☮️❤️
Thank you both for this extraordinarily beautiful conversation.
I was fortunate enough to see Carlos Santana just before the pandemic hit. I saw him at House of Blues in Las Vegas. He was fantastic such a great performer. Best show I’ve ever seen. He is such a real human being.
Well done Lee, people criticize easily, but you did a fantastic job. It's not easy interviewing a living legend.
Brilliant video.
I LOVED the turn this interview took at the end about the spiritual aspects of music and psychadelics. Excellent interview Lee!
You can say anything, but first time I heard "Samba pa' ti" it gave me the chills and wanted to cry, this man knows what he is talking about.
One of the best interviews I've seen with Carlos. And, of course, one of the best Anderton vids ever! Well done.
What a fantastic interview!! Very well done, and so interesting. Kudos to you, Captain! You're really good at this!
8:00 now thats a good observation, captain nailed it
Carlos Santana.... I just couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this in my notifications! I am so pleased that he is happy and doing well! He is purely a blessing to the world. Thank you, Lee!
