    We just have to admit Lucy's enormous mental strength. Outside is very pretty, athletic woman. But inside - there is a tungsten core. Unyielding will. You're an inspiration, Lucy!

    It was a small moment in the video, but when your physio asked, “Are you going to destroy that pool tomorrow?” and you replied, “Yes. And everyone in it,” I got chills. Sure, it might be nothing or just a small moment, but I just *love* seeing the mental fortitude the world’s best athletes have. It’s inspiring. I know it’s not an “everyone sucks but me” attitude but more of a confidence they have in themselves. Love seeing those little moments. Great video and I hope the injury is all healed up!

    I remember watching the Kona broadcast and the announcers mentioning you had an issue with your achilles. That's insane that you were able to run that marathon on a tore calf! Hope you continue to heal up and cannot wait to see you race again whenever it makes sense for you!

    Back in March I tore my Gastrocnemius Medial almost completely from the connecting tissue and that was b****y painful! I can‘t imagine running anywhere in a fraction of that pain, let alone an entire marathon. Your performance blows me away when your‘re healthy so this is just out of this world! Forget Iron Man, you‘re a woman of Steel!

    • @ceheck
      @ceheck 6 месяцев назад +1

      I'm still confused about the different terms in English, e.g. the difference between tear and rupture, but just recently (two days ago) I sustained what I would call a rupture of a muscle fibre (I would also say gastrocnemius just like in your case) and I haven't been able to walk since then. I already sustained a pulled muscle (in the other calf) last year but this is/was different as I really can't put any pressure on the injured leg (without pain) as of now. Either way, bottom line, running a full marathon with a hurting calf AT THAT PACE sounds like an incredible feat of mental strength.

After that I was also in Kona and make it the most beautiful race in my life, unfortunately not with the time that I wanted, now I am also in the recovery. I hope I see you again in Kona on 2025 and also I can start and finish again this time with a better results. Good luck 🍀

    Fingers crossed your recovery continues on point. I tore my right calf twice over the years and I now have a very inelastic area of scar tissue that is constantly playing up and getting minor tears. Definitely recommend being overcautious on recovery. The long term impact of living with it if it doesn't heal properly is pretty dismal. I'd go back and slap my younger self if I could, I definitely didn't take it seriously enough.

      He may have been the best marathon runner. Personally I like Prefontaine. The interesting thing is you mention Shorter's Duathlons which he turned to after running. While he probably still had a faster 10k time than LCB even in his 40s, she would have done him on the bike. And you don't say what injury he had? Lucy had a grade 3 calf tear, lucky not to need surgery. What did Frank have?

  • @emmonsj1
    @emmonsj1 6 месяцев назад +1

    Obviously an elite athlete, but what about to those who see her as inspiration and push beyond their limits and do themselves real harm? And don’t have a team of physios and can’t spend hours prehabbing and rehabbing. I believe a video like this can be irresponsible without the appropriate context. The algorithm brought me here. As a runner I know we all push beyond our limits and we all start running well before we’re cleared too. We’re stubborn, and to put out a video saying it’s worth it to ignore the warning signs just doesn’t translate to the majority of us who don’t have the background and resources of this runner.

      You sir are why there is a saying "health and safety gone mad". You actually proposing elite athletes should prefix everything they do with "don't try this at home"? If I run 1 400 at Lucy torn calf marathon pace I wreck my hamstrings. Dude, get real. I'm not going to have her tell me not to do it. I'm an adult. Being an athlete shouldn't be labelled a dangerous activity to be controlled. Seriously.
