this is kind of random but the most inspirational and motivating part of this video is where you showed your finish line photo back in 2014 as an age grouper with a pretty "average" finishing time. It really shows that even the best pros started from somewhere and it took so many years of hard work and dedication to get to where you are now
And to think I got the Ironman tattoo because for me it was a big achievement at the time to just finish it! It’s amazing to look back on the journey from then until now 🤩
Lucy you are such an inspiration! I’m so glad you finally won the Ironman World Championship after coming second 4 times. Your next tattoo should be the words “NEVER GIVE UP!” 🤟

As this is an evolutional Journey Lucy, I recommend that the mermaid got wings to fly across the course (and do not need legs). BTW very nice that you mentioned Daniela as an inspiration in your thank you speech in Kona, you can see how much it meant to her by her eyes and facial expression. Not being first does not mean you are off the radar, you still mean something to people, you inspire, you be a role model. Very similar to you Lucy, where this is about diciplined training to work on the completion of your dreams, regardless which age group, which time, but I dream about improvement and your videos about stubbornness/sacrifice, defects, injuries you don't care, you wake up and chase your dream. Lucy, watching your journey has really inspired me and my family. Both of my parents have picked up running and cycling recently and completely changed their health since the pandemic. Watching you win Kona has inspired all of us and is a testament to how with positivity, hard work, a good support system, and grit, anything is possible.y dad and I both completed our first half marathons this past year and we are so inspired by you and now have a goal of completing an ironman one day. I think if you were to get another tattoo, it would be really meaningful to have one that represents your journey. Maybe stack your first ironman finishing time above your next World Championship time with some sort of Flower crown or motif to Lola, Pickle, and Reece around it. Kind of like a representation of your journey and the ones that have always been by your side.
I love your tattoo! Brilliant representation of you and your year. I’ve actually been thinking about a new one since I did Kona for the first time in 2023. I definitely want a M dot, and some native Hawaii symbols, along with the bright colors of the island.
You once passed me and my friend Valerie when training in the canary islands. Ever since, i have been telling the story of the time i was training with Lucy. I think you could do another mermaid but have the hair plats made of miniture images of your silhouette running or cycling. Valerie and i did our first ironan together. But she qualified for the world championships!! If you select me, i will give the prize to her. It would make the best surprise present ever. She has the same attitude as you, a whirlwind of positivity.
You are an absolute ROCK STAR! You inspire me everyday with everything you do. I too was a swimmer who came to triathlon so you are my spirit animal. I also love tattoos and the significance of marking yourself with art to signify a great journey. Hawaii is an epicenter of tattoo culture combining ocean, sky, and hardship. Sailor Jerry while rather passe these days had many mermaid and sparrow flash representing what is now a very classic tattoo style. I will someday get wing tattoos on my ankles to help carry me over the road on my long runs. You are much more than a mermaid now, you are a mermaid who flies!
I really like the idea of letting a close person in ur life design smth little for your body. I for example wear little flower tattoos all over my body, each individualy desgined by my dearest friends and family. Like that I carry a bunch of flowers with me wherever I go, gifted to me by important people. This can be anything else ….. words, tools, dreams, symbols important to these people. So for example may let Reece or one of your parents desgin smth meaningful for you? I really like the way your mermaid tattoo turned out and think ist suits you well! Super happy and proud for you!! Congratulations Lucy, as a swimmer myself I always have looked up to you and your natural talent. I think your next tattoo should be the mantra you always tell yourself before any race or event, as a little reminder of the wonderful things you have told yourself and the amazing things you have accomplished.

Love your Mermaid tattoo! 😊 I have similar thoughts about strong meaning of each tattoo. I have also one in my arm which I see always when cycling and it reminds me of many things. I have wanted to have a tattoo of things which have meant a lot to me and which I want to keep with me forever, e.g. paw of my first cat. And will definitely have an Ironman tattoo as soon as able to finish it 😅 I saw the stickers of Lola and Pickle in your helmet so maybe next tattoo could be something related to them? 😊🐶
What an incredible achievement, especially given your journey.... humble respect and massively inspirational. 🙌 Tatoo's are definitely addictive and so if I was to recommend a next tattoo... the mermaid symbolises freedom, independence, magic, and if you added an anchor, a mermaid anchor tattoo, it symbolises a person in tune with themselves and who holds strong to their values....if there was a way to incorporate this, it would resonate...in my humble opinion. Always inspiring to hear your story. My wife and I have been following you since we did our maiden Mini-Tri. Since we train together and you and Reece train together, for your next tattoo how about a love heart for Reece, to remind you that he's always there for you, through thick and thin.
I have a puppy paw on my wrist to symbolize all my pups throughout my life! Inside the big part of the paw is a heart. Simple but meaningful!

If you go for another triathlon related one I love the idea of adding on to your original IM tattoo (maybe in another colour)? Add the crown but also add hands underneath it, lifting it up in a way (representing Reese, your family, your support system)!

You said at the start of your journey your nan/Grandmother was your greatest fan/supporter/friend/motivator, but she also gave you her DNA, which has enabled you to evolve into the star you are today. She clearly meant a lot to you. I think you should get a tattoo of something that reminds you of her i.e., a flower/sign/year of birth (whatever makes you smile and remember her) as it will give you strength, comfort, and inspiration when you need it. I am sure she has been with you by your side on your journey, never far from your thoughts. She would have been so proud of what you have gone on to achieve…. Congrats Champ.
I have been debating getting a tattoo after qualifying for Kona IM WC in my first ever full IM and completing a PR while you ruled the day! I think you could give your IM tattoo this signature braids to remind you of how good of a role model you are for gals all over the world!

This is awesome! I was cheering you on the whole race that day…though you made it look easy by leading the ENTIRE time. One cool tattoo idea I’ve seen is to get the elevation profile of a race done. Could start with a wave image and then crash into the elevation profile of the bike/run

Your story is so inspirational that I eagerly wait for your new videos to come out and listen intently to the info and guidance you offer. 💕Like you I intend to get an M Dot tattoo when I complete my 1st Ironman in 2026 - age 60 years young 😁. I have a long way to go as I can only swim 25m but I will not give up 💪👍. For your next tattoo it would be so lovely to have an image honouring the selfless devotion that Reece has shown over the years supporting you on your journey. My partner is very much the same and I could not do what I do without his support and encouragement and for that I am eternally grateful ❤️. Perhaps an entwined symbol using the letters of his name. I’m a stick figure artist so can’t sketch but I’m sure you get the idea. Good luck for 2024 - I’ll be cheering you on 🏊♀️ 🚴♀️🏃♀️🙌

Your next tattoo; should be Lola and pickle, I know you have their characters on your helmet; but I have my dogs paw prints on my foot, so there is a couple ideas, or how about a few mermaid scales on your feet, as if it’s under your skin!! Love the tat!!

If i were you, i would map the island geographic site with the main sightseeing things representing that place and the race that means the most for you - the one that you worked really hard to get, and put it around my hand , almost to look like a bracelet. Frist it's cool and second it's a reminder of the effort and work you put to accomplish it. I did a similar one when i finished my first marathon in Valencia- basically took the medal engravings as the initial idea, expanded it and put it as i mentioned above on my hand, so in a way, the medal is always with me .. sort of :D
Great video. Your next tattoo(s) could be the times of all your races but running down your back side by side like the Angeline Jolie tattoo. (like the numbers in green, in the Matrix movie). So each important race you finish 1st place, could be put side by side on your back. Consider this outside the tatoo idea competition as I don't need a gift. Since you are asking: You are pointing out that the tattoo has the ability to motivate you in triathlon and hopefully beyond aswel. May I suggest a Haida tattoo design. These people managed paddle across from Haida Gwaii to Hawai to do business. This way it can carry meaning far beyond your triathlon career plus, they have orcas in their typical art.

You have been an inspiration for us women. I started last year with triathlon. For your next tattoo I do think that you should have “no.1” this can mean a lot, like choosing yourself first above others, or you are number 1, and no matter what age you will become you are number 1 its not a session it is a personal choice. 😊
A Lola and Pickle tattoo of course! I also like the idea of going to a tattoo artist and just kind of telling them your life and letting them design something based off of that since they’re such creative people
Love the mermaid! Next tattoo could be the xray image of the bone you broke in your foot over where your injury was. I hear feet are some of the most painful places to get tattooed so it could put your pain tolerance to good use and remind you of how you overcame the pain of the injury! Don't know if too cliche but a phoenix comes to mind. I feel like one of the most inspiring things about your journey has been how you fall down and pick yourself back up. From the back-to-back 2nd place finishes to getting a big injury right after switching bike sponsors, you just keep going and putting in the work. My 2 cents. (or is it pence?)
Definitely one reason I don't have more tattoos is you can't swim for 2 weeks while they heal. I love to swim! I noticed a lot of ultraman and epic marathon swim guys have huge tattoos across their chests and down the arm, so I got one like that of the Japanese crashing wave scene. If I was to get more tattoos, I'd get ones with the symbols of the different crazy endurance events I've done. Ultraman, swimming 22 miles across Lake Tahoe, finishing a 100 mile trail ultramarathon. So when I get really old and the nurses are taking care of me, they can ask I can relive them as I tell them. :)
I really like the kona mermaid tattoo. Other ideas could be your personal mantra (i have "I am ready" tattooed on my wrist where i can see it in aero), or perhaps the coordinates of a special location, like the kona finishline. I'd put either one vertically or horizontally down my side (size dependent) since i already have my wrist done 🙂

I write on my hands when I race something that means a lot to me, and seeing those 2 words in my hands makes me push harder and sometimes people cheering scream those words to me it's so cool.
I think your idea of adding the hawaii flower crown to your ironman symbol is super super cool. You should do this and then when you win the Nice world champs next year, you can a tattoo of the ironman symbol in the 3 stripped colours of the french flag (blue/white/red) with maybe a cute little pint of beer since you pour that on one another on the podium haha. This way you can get a little collection going of ironman tattoos representing each world champs you've won :)

Great to see your tattoo up close. I also wanted one to celebrate my first 70.3 but maybe full IM is more meaningful. Anyhow also tought to stay out of the pool and wait for it to heal... When you’ve had so many successes it’s hard to choose the best design to fit your story!!! However, as your story has been quite the journey, ups, downs, highs & lows, you could go for something like some little mountains that reflects that long journey with highs & lows, maybe a mountain each for the two doggos & Reece 🙌🏻
You should do a ‘gun to tape’ tattoo because that performance was incredible but I also believe you have plans to have many more of those ❤
Love the tattoo. If you get another why not color her in and add the hibiscus. I designed mine based off of my first Chattanooga and then Kona. I have the TN flower iris in outer circle along with ‘my strength comes from within’ and Chatt’s distance 144.6. The dot is a hibiscus and the M shows a volcano and sunset from Hawaii. ❤ Love the mermaid Lucy!!!

So cool! For your next tattoo, I think you should get a phrase that motivates you on your quad that can be seen when you are in bike kit. Something to inspire when your head is down on the trainer, and quad tattoos are sweeeet. "push boundaries" comes to mind for you (:

You should get a mini flower crown on your thumb so when you ride your bike or run when things get hard you know that you can do it! Here in Austria we would say "Nice Beckal" to that Tattoo. =) Idea for the next one would be Pickle standing on the shoulders of Lola and they are facing in different directions.
For your next tattoo you should get the theme from your championship t-shirt which symbolizes the swim, cycle and run. I really like that concept and if I manage to finish my first Ironman in Copenhagen this year, I might look to do something in that style/theme. I'll be definitely getting a tattoo to commemorate that day, but first - lots of training ahead to make sure I am well prepared.
I personally love arrows as a tattoo idea as for me they symbolize aiming for a goal, going forward but also craftsmanship as an unbalanced arrow can mess up any shot. You are the arrow but you are also the craftsman and the archer
This is a brilliant tattoo I have to say! 🎉 for the next one, which fortunately will be for the next world championship celebration, you could use Nice’s eagle, as the championship will be held in Nice, France, the eagle is Nice’s emblem.
