Mark W Jeff’s a great guitarist. Hendrix has his place in history, probably more for stage pyrotechnics and effects than actual playing. Jimi’s inadequacies as a guitarist show up when he tried acoustic-way overrated as a musician. Too many genres, too many metrics to name a single greatest, but all one has to do is watch a brief Gary Moore “shredding blues, rock, jazz” video, or Danny Gatton’s “compilation” or Red Neck Jazz” or consider Jerry Reed, Chet, SRV, Joe Pass, Roy Buchanan, & others to know that Beck, Hendrix have a lot of company at the top.
Heavy Mental Did you get to see Jimi play live? The pyrotechnics were showbiz, just to get things started. At the Fillmore or similar venues the band played very creative and soulful. Lots of very quiet passages where you could hear just how sweet he could play. I’ve been disappointed over the years at how little of that music has been made public. Jimi as a blues/jazz musician just doesn’t have the commercial appeal. 😎
Mark W I also saw people get up and leave his concerts due to the repetitiousness of certain amelodic lines and riffs that seem to go nowhere. The ere he lived, rebellion against the establishment, anti war, racial strife, drugs, freedom of expression, stage theatrics, electric effects, and folklore leads folks to place him on a pedestal. Seat Hendrix, unplugged, on your divan, next to any of dozens of other players and he shrinks. Seeing Terry Kath in ‘69 at Fillmore west up close, later, Danny Gatton in ‘77 the night “Humbler Stakes His Claim”was recorded, and SRV numerous times, up close, I forgot about Hendrix.

Awesome, long time since these two players I saw playing in the Yardbirds at Gravesend co op hall when I was still at school around 64-5.Not at the same time, of course. jeff beck is so brilliant that i think he never had the commercial success as some others because he didn't stick with one genre but kept evolving. too bad he didn't getting jimmy page sitting back there in the back row to come up. would have loved to hear him and jeff.
FYI - This event happened during a week-long residency at Ronnie Scott's Nov 2007. The bassist, Australian Tal Wilkenfeld, is 20 years old, born 2 Dec 1986. Not bad for a high-school dropout. M
What an amazing performance must have been an amazing experience to have been right in the front watching this glad we have this recording to watch
I am quaratined with two of the greats, how can I complain?
Yep it all aint so bad when you got music like this
Smooth beautifully played blues, Jeff Beckola & Eric are dynamite fused !
Vinnie Colaiuta on drums! Kill'in it!
RIP to the greatest. Jeff will live on forever
Whatta band....Clapton being up there puts Vinnie and Tal in the back seat and into the most killer rhythm section
Goodbye, Beck … we love you so
Vinnie and Tal get a nice little groove going on. It's like, one moment I'm estimating tax withholding and then, somehow, both my feet are tapping, hands are clapping, shoulders are rolling back and forth, head's bobbing side to side, and I'm wearing out the bearings in my office chair.
Wow,absolutely fabulous guys.
Amen to Old Birds, EC and JB enough said!!
In all the 6 stringing it is easy to forget what a top vocalist EC has always been.
Great vocalist?
Don't think so
I've just been listening to Otis Redding
Now there's a great vocalist
Dermot Mahon you’re an idiot, thats clear to see
Awesome, long time since these two players I saw playing in the Yardbirds at Gravesend co op hall when I was still at school around 64-5.Not at the same time,
of course. I was sad EC had left but not for long, his replacement was just as great but totally different flavour, how amazing they complement each other here
so well, this is truly supercharged blues .
I remember seeing these two play in the Yardbirds in 1966 before EC left the band. Derby was the place I saw them. An incredible experience to be sure.
wow , incredible ......Jeff Beck was a genius on guitar ...for sure!
RIP Jeff you'll be missed ❤️
does not get better than this!
This is incredible!!! Just incredible!!
Jeff Beck's the man, always has been since the beginning.
Awesome!!! Tal fits right in!!
