Along with Roy Buchanan, Jeff Beck has been my favorite guitar player since I first really listened to him while in high school and I’m currently 65 years old. God Bless You Jeff Beck !!! Your music has put a smile on many a face, and you will be missed. You and Roy can now duet on “Cause We Ended As Lovers”. Earth’s loss is heavens gain.

Seeing a lot of negative critiques of this girl's playing. Well, the simple fact is the non other than Jeff Beck opted for her, and - incidentally - he hands over what is probably his signature solo to this kid, and she doesn't disappoint. All this bullshit about tone, and volume. Seriously? She's not the fucking sound man! I'm a bass player, and I choose to enjoy the skill rather than be envious the girl as clearly a lot of posters are on this thread. The girl plays great, she clearly feels it. It's wonderful. Enjoy it. No one gives a shit that you played in a garage band 20 years ago. Doesn't make you an authority....

Yeah man…that moment is magic. I wish I had gotten into Jeff sooner. A taste for that stuff is refined, and it may take a bit for your ear to want that thing he does, but man…when you get it, you GET IT. I feel like a dumbass for digging Satriani all these years and not realizing just how much he was influenced by Jeff Beck. So glad I found this Ronnie Scott’s stuff. Every time I watch it, I want to grab my guitar and play. Dude is one of one. So unique.

I knew his genius, and his uniqueness, but also since the day the tragic news came in listening to Jeff in heavy rotation every day, I wonder how I could ignore all that so many years by listening only sporadic here and then, when a new record came out or so. But not really close and deeply like the stuff deserves. Even more bitter as I'm deeply into Led Zeppelin and read such a lot of Bios and Articles over the past years, and of course Jeff so often mentioned, especially in the parts from the beginnings with the yardbirds. But still: He left us this heartwarming, stunning, goosebumping legacy and a monsterous huge pile of material to warm our souls at. And this performance at RS's has become my #1 concert video. ♥
I saw her tell this story. Jeff brought her to live with his wife and family. She said they would often prepare meals together (Jeff, wife and Taj). She got to know the family and really loves them!

This actually brings tears to my eyes. I don't know any other guitarist who can emote like a singer as Beck. There are many guitarists more technically advanced than Beck, but no one I know of matches him in musics basic function- to convey emotion. A masterful performance.
I agree. But just to say it, Jeff Beck was a masterful technician, as well. I would even say he was innovative when it came to electric guitar technique. Many of my fellow guitarists would agree. But, his technique was never to show off. It was always in service of the music. That is as it should be. That is what differentiates a bunch of notes from real music.
I love his reactions to her solo, they're so honest and genuine and full of support and respect. He seems to be a very honest man who is not afraid to be in the moment and express his joy.

Yes, I have played Carnegie Hall and even (not hard to find) superior venues... as a French Honrnist/Pianist... YES. Thank you to all the sound engineers, the management at the venues, the producers (the money), and all involved in this production. AWESOME.
Youu can tell Tal W just loves what she does. Beck was a virtuoso on Guitar. Tal is everybit as much so on bass. What a natural talent on both counts. When she ends her solo and looks for approval from God and gets it the look on her face is a genuine as it gets. Precious.
That is the most beautiful part of that whole performance, Mentor and Mentee and the look of pure delight on a young Tal's face, just brings tears to the eyes. Rest in peace greatest of rock gods.

Nobody else has that kind of absolute control, that ability to make a guitar speak so hauntingly. Jeff is in his own musical zip code. And yes, Tal really is that good, and Vinnie, as everybody knows, is a master.

I forget whether it was Page or Clapton (or maybe another luminary) who said "It's all in the right hand." I don't know of another guitarist who can hit specific notes dead-on with the whammy bar, as he does in "Where Were You".
This brought tears to my eyes. The bass player is just so good and for him to let her shine the way she did speaks volumes of the graciousness of Jeff Beck.
I've watched this a thousand times and every time it brings me to my knees with my jaw on the floor and tears in my eyes. Having JB and Vinnie Colaiuta improving together is like watching Michelangelo and Rembrandt paint together. It's so mindblowingly surreal and transcending that it's hard to even comprehend
His playing is beyond compare, obviously … but the interaction between him and Tal … the genuine JOY on his face found in her playing … wow. Now there’s the definition of “maestro.”

Honestly, haven't heard this song for over ten years, and this has brought memories flooding back. A true masterpiece by the legend Jeff Beck. His generous acknowledgment of new talent Tal, speaks volumes of his own humility and humanity.
How could he not? Tal had the prefect tone and perfect feel at just the right moment. Tal’s performance here leaves me stunned with amazement every time I hear this. Jeff must have been thinking “holy crap how do I follow that?”
Jeff's playing after Tal's amazing solo may very well be the best I have ever seen. The people in this audience were so blessed to experience this masterpiece performance. I miss him every day.
I was there because I worked in Ronnie's at that time and got the responsability of taking care of the band. I am mexican and when I was 18 went to London for one year. I started working in Ronnie's and then came the news about Jeff playing... He played 7 times in 5 days. I worked the whole week because supposedly I was being profesional but really I was living the most surreal and incredible week of my life so far. The music you can imagine. But meeting them and Tal being myself a bass player was the best. I also saw a bunch of world class rockstars those days. I made and brought a cappuccino for Jimmy Page. That was the highlight of Mr. Beck's week in Ronnie's and surely one of the coolest moment in my life so far.
The most tenderly expressive of all the great guitarists. Like clapton once said, he seems like he’s literally pulling the sound out of the guitar. Every note has a different color and expression. The most unique guitaris. Holdsworth and hendrix were the most original composers of music for electric guitar, but Jeff’s technique is by far the most singular, and still untouchable.
i wish people would stop saying somebody is the "best". there were and are so many great musicians and they all have their own unique styles and sounds. take a listen to gary moore's "parisienne walkways" and get back to me.
His generosity with other players and love of their talent was legendary. This performance is a typical example. I've literally grown up with his music. He was only a year older than me. So sadly missed.
Jeff died today and I am going down a RUclips rabbit hole to let his tunes soak into my cerebellum. I've listened to this song thousands of times and it's etched upon my mind forever. RIP Jeff Beck.

He was at the No.1 spot not because of His hits or anything but because of his Humility and Passion. Everyone argues Page or Hendrix and all these greats but truth is Jeff was the No.1 he just didn’t care for Status or any of that. He was the Guitar players, Guitar Player.
But Becks originals didnt really connect with audiences, most of his 'big songs' including this are covers. That is a weakness of Beck imo. he plays great no doubt

This is how I will remember Jeff Beck...having fun and being amazed by that young, awesome bass player (you're great, Tal!) who, at the end of an incredible perfect solo, looks at him asking "Have I been good enough?"and he smiles "Fuck yes, darling! You made my day!".
Every time I watch this, I get major goosebumps. Tall ripping on the bass... And of course, Jeff. As a guitarist myself, Jeff Beck was one of the best. If not, the best. Only certain players like Jeff Healey, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Santana, David Gilmore, Hendrix, BB & Albert King will ever give you this amazing feeling of true blues talent/magic. It's only if they are from another entity. I just know I am truly glad they're so many videos of my hero's shredding I'll never get desperate for motivation. First time I saw this, some years ago, I cried after this bass solo. This is the perfect example of what human being can produce, a great moment of humanity and music. The happiness on her face, on Jeff’s face too, vinnie understanding that something is happening as well … that is simply beautiful. I have a look regularly, with always the same feeling.
I’m also guilty as charged (I shed a tear as well), she’s a phenomenal bassist. Can’t believe Jeff can express that much emotion with 6 strings. Amazing…
His playing, feel, and sheer mastery of the instrument, always has, and always will have the power to bring me to tears, especially on this day of all days. Rest in Peace Jeff.

So glad you wrote those words, Trev. I've read other comments that attempted to soil that moment with implications of a nefarious undercurrent that simply isn't there. This is an old master reveling in the pride that can only come from passing the torch, as you said.
Beck has been consistently exploratory and creative throughout his career . His uplifting of young artists akin to Santana and Metheny is admirable.One of few true artists who push the creative envelope,transcending genres though carrying elements of them forward.This is not 'mere' fusion'.

I just heard we lost Jeff Beck today. Anyone who's ever picked up an electric guitar and tried to play can appreciate his virtuosity. He could do it all with authority - metal, progressive, R&B, blues, jazz fusion, rockabilly, even techno. He's the musician other guitar gods listened to when they weren't performing.
On 2:40 when he said to her "I'm not gonna play anymore" after she killed that bass... this was always my favorite moment from that gig. Rest in peace, Jeff. Love you.
2:40 - I don't know what he said but it seems Tal's solo moved Jeff so much he couldn't start to play - he just wanted to send her some love - and boy what a smile she gave him in return! HEART is the difference between Jeff's music and so many other technical guitar wizards. Love that man. We are gonna miss him so bad. RIP, hero!
This live version just might be the best version of Because We Ended as Lovers Jeff has ever done. The whole recorded set on Ronnie's is a masterpiece. And I learned that Stevie Wonder wrote this melody, simply brilliant!

@Christy Axel Norman Yeah, I dropped out in 11th grade, got my GED, and went on the road based out of Mpls. with my own sound and lighting system, and on my off days worked as a driver/gofer for the big shows that came into the arena's, so I've also worked shows for a lot of these people. Was also making better $ than my teachers at the time, so yeah, school is def not for everyone! On the other hand, so proud of my kids, daughter is a Dr. of Genetics and Genomics and son works with me now as camera asst. on broadcast sports, if they ever come back! And Tal, what an amazing young woman! She did a show up here a few years ago with her own band and I understand it was great, especially for a fairly small crowd.

I've watched this a thousand times and every time it brings me to my knees with my jaw on the floor and tears in my eyes. Having JB and Vinnie Colaiuta improving together is like watching Michelangelo and Rembrandt paint together. It's so mindblowingly surreal and transcending that it's hard to even comprehend

Honestly, haven't heard this song for over ten years, and this has brought memories flooding back. A true masterpiece by the legend Jeff Beck. His generous acknowledgment of new talent Tal, speaks volumes of his own humility and humanity.
How could he not? Tal had the prefect tone and perfect feel at just the right moment. Tal’s performance here leaves me stunned with amazement every time I hear this. Jeff must have been thinking “holy crap how do I follow that?”

Jeff's playing after Tal's amazing solo may very well be the best I have ever seen. The people in this audience were so blessed to experience this masterpiece performance. I miss him every day.
I was there because I worked in Ronnie's at that time and got the responsability of taking care of the band. I am mexican and when I was 18 went to London for one year. I started working in Ronnie's and then came the news about Jeff playing... He played 7 times in 5 days. I worked the whole week because supposedly I was being profesional but really I was living the most surreal and incredible week of my life so far. The music you can imagine. But meeting them and Tal being myself a bass player was the best. I also saw a bunch of world class rockstars those days. I made and brought a cappuccino for Jimmy Page. That was the highlight of Mr. Beck's week in Ronnie's and surely one of the coolest moment in my life so far.

The most tenderly expressive of all the great guitarists. Like clapton once said, he seems like he’s literally pulling the sound out of the guitar. Every note has a different color and expression. The most unique guitaris. Holdsworth and hendrix were the most original composers of music for electric guitar, but Jeff’s technique is by far the most singular, and still untouchable.

His generosity with other players and love of their talent was legendary. This performance is a typical example.

There are so many good guitar players, but Beck is in a whole different universe of playing. And Tal's solo is amazing on this, what a talent.

I love watching Jeff’s genuine expressions of appreciation as he watches Tal play her solo! He is such a fine man in addition to being an incredible musician.
All he uses was volume and string manipulation and he does more than some with 10 pedals. Amazing.
he does also have a delay pedal on there, just sayin :) but yeah, man's a subtle genius. he's long been perfectly complemented by vinnie, and now with tal in the mix... wow

He was at the No.1 spot not because of His hits or anything but because of his Humility and Passion. Everyone argues Page or Hendrix and all these greats but truth is Jeff was the No.1 he just didn’t care for Status or any of that. He was the Guitar players, Guitar Player.

RIP incomparable Jeff Beck, we have lost a legend. One of the saddest days of my life. He was the most creative, breathtaking, masterful, expressive guitarists, and a beautiful soul. Words fail me. Heartbreaking to lose him.
This is how I will remember Jeff Beck...having fun and being amazed by that young, awesome bass player (you're great, Tal!) who, at the end of an incredible perfect solo, looks at him asking "Have I been good enough?"and he smiles "Fuck yes, darling! You made my day!".
Stopped me in my tracks…He was always otherworldly…creating prisms of sound. A staggering loss. RIP Jeff Beck, may you soar eternally.
Every time I watch this, I get major goosebumps. Tall ripping on the bass... And of course, Jeff. As a guitarist myself, Jeff Beck was one of the best. If not, the best. Only certain players like Jeff Healey, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Santana, David Gilmore, Hendrix, BB & Albert King will ever give you this amazing feeling of true blues talent/magic. It's only if they are from another entity. I just know I am truly glad they're so many videos of my hero's shredding I'll never get desperate for motivation. First time I saw this, some years ago, I cried after this bass solo. This is the perfect example of what human being can produce, a great moment of humanity and music. The happiness on her face, on Jeff’s face too, vinnie understanding that something is happening as well … that is simply beautiful. I have a look regularly, with always the same feeling.
I’m also guilty as charged (I shed a tear as well), she’s a phenomenal bassist. Can’t believe Jeff can express that much emotion with 6 strings. Amazing…
In my opinion, has to be one of the most beautifully played bass solos i have ever heard. PERFECT NOTE PLACEMENT.

Beck has been consistently exploratory and creative throughout his career . His uplifting of young artists akin to Santana and Metheny is admirable.One of few true artists who push the creative envelope,transcending genres though carrying elements of them forward.This is not 'mere' fusion'.

I just heard we lost Jeff Beck today. Anyone who's ever picked up an electric guitar and tried to play can appreciate his virtuosity. He could do it all with authority - metal, progressive, R&B, blues, jazz fusion, rockabilly, even techno. He's the musician other guitar gods listened to when they weren't performing.
On 2:40 when he said to her "I'm not gonna play anymore" after she killed that bass... this was always my favorite moment from that gig. Rest in peace, Jeff. Love you.

2:40 - I don't know what he said but it seems Tal's solo moved Jeff so much he couldn't start to play - he just wanted to send her some love - and boy what a smile she gave him in return! I couldn't believe it when I found out Stevie wrote this. Man is a genius.
He sings, communicates his notes. reproduces sounds, speech of an unknown amphibian animal that no one has ever seen. It produces these sounds deep deep in the oceans canyons, and as far up as the corners of the universe.
With a plain and simple Strat plugged into an amp without an overload of processing.
Showing the cooperation and sharing in music; Jeff Beck was one of a kind and Tal fit this effort great. A classic forever. God bless Jeff Beck. 👏🏼

@Christy Axel Norman Yeah, I dropped out in 11th grade, got my GED, and went on the road based out of Mpls. with my own sound and lighting system, and on my off days worked as a driver/gofer for the big shows that came into the arena's, so I've also worked shows for a lot of these people. Was also making better $ than my teachers at the time, so yeah, school is def not for everyone! On the other hand, so proud of my kids, daughter is a Dr. of Genetics and Genomics and son works with me now as camera asst. on broadcast sports, if they ever come back! And Tal, what an amazing young woman! She did a show up here a few years ago with her own band and I understand it was great, especially for a fairly small crowd.
