I was so upset by them removing Lady Googoo from the game and replacing her with Baby Rox that I actually sent a complaint email asking where Lady Googoo went and if she could come back. The reply I got was, “she went into the sun and will never come back.”

I remember back in primary school we had a competition where we had to give a speech about something important to us. A girl in reception class did hers about her Moshi Monsters figure collection, and it was so good she was invited to deliver it to the CEO of Moshi Monsters herself. She was Looked upon by everyone with godlike awe. Sorry, that's such a long and random comment, but I suddenly unlocked a memory.

When I was 8 years old, in 2010/2011, my class was given the task of writing a letter to a company of our choice. I have no idea why. But anyway, I wrote a letter to the CEO of Moshi Monsters/Mind Candy, Michael Acton Smith. I was the only person that year who got a reply - it was a handwritten greetings card thanking me for playing the game, and the envelope was full of so many stickers that I’m still getting through them today.
I loved playing Moshi Monsters as a kid, and it was very dear to my heart for this reason. I don’t know much about Michael as a person, but I would say he certainly understands how to make kids smile. The topic of the game’s decline is actually a pretty sad one for me, as a result!

My parents also wrote to him, praising him for the safe space he'd provided for kids curious about the online world, (especially autistic kids like me- my special interest was in moshi monsters and I'm pretty sure my parents mentioned that) and he sent me back a massive goody bag with free membership for 30 days, an iggy plush and loads of stickers along with a code that got me some rare ingame item (think it was the rox wallpaper, not 100 percent sure) and a crystal pricilla moshling figure! most of these are lost to time but i still have a few sticker packs and maybe the iggy somewhere if i looked! i'm pretty sure this was like in 2011-12. i've always felt really affectionate for this towards moshi monsters.
i used to go down to the local shop a kilometer from my house every week and buy a pack of the top trumps and the magazine from the minute i was allowed. good times :) Michael Smith from what i've heard and seen is such a lovely guy!

This is my moment to shine. Not only was I OBSESSED with this game, I spent all my pocket money on the playing cards and figurines. And the DS game! I still own all of these including the literal rarest one (our school called the holographic ones 'rainbow shiny' because well... they were rainbow and shiny) -- I got the rainbow shiny iggy (after convincing my dad to buy it off ebay)
I used to show my dad my house and my moshlings. I even managed to get a 1 month membership at one point. After my dad passed away, some of my fondest memories are playing the DS game with him, trying to get him to play the ice-cream game, and showing him my card collection (which I still have!)
I also once got a note which said "u are cute" and I remember I started shaking because I also shared my account with my crush at the time and was also terrified because how did they know what I looked like?

Okay, between how this game was created because the creator noticed how much children like nurturing things and how they persist now as a mindfulness and sleep app... This may be one of the most genuinely wholesome and not evil video game corporations out there!
Seriously. When hearing about how the creator noticed how kids like nurturing things, I couldn't help but let out an audible 'Awwww!' Because you know something? They're right! A lot of people see kids as these hellish, uncaring creatures, but honestly kids are inclined first and foremost to caring about things, and so creating a game geared towards that caring nature is a really nice thing to do! It's very good that this game was created on the foundation of having kids nurturing things over any other kind of gameplay loop or philosophy they could have founded it off of.

This game was literally my life blood for a good few years. I managed to get a Moshi Monster gift card in my halloween bag one year because the neighbors accidentally had slipped it in there with the bowl of candy they carelessly left out, which was obviously meant for their kid. I was one of the kids that got the Moshi magazine subscription, I swear to god doing the daily puzzles ended up giving me at least ten additional IQ points. I even once got a thank you letter from Mind Candy for just being a loyal customer. I swear to god I'm not trying to sound like I'm bragging but when their album came out I really felt like I helped to contribute to it, in however small way that me and my family did. Visual stimming to The Missy Kix by replaying the music video several times in a row may have helped in some way too, who knows lol. As a kid from the UK I vividly remember various friends being really into Moshi Monsters and trying to get me to make an account, but personally Stardoll was my go-to kid-friendly world. 12 year old me felt so grown up knowing who designers were and decking out my suite, not to mention the insane high school and fantasy roleplays I dove into on the forums. It certainly felt huge at the time (I think they had an official collab with Mattel for some stardoll barbies?) and I'd LOVE to see an Izzzyzzz video on it

As a child I was a connoisseur of virtual worlds so I had accounts on ToonTown (my favorite to this day), Club Penguin, Pixie Hollow, Free Realms, etc. But Moshi Monsters was the only one my irl friends actually played. I had a Katsuma and my best friend had either a Furi or a Zommer, I can't really remember. We would leave eachother notes on the pinboard. I remember in the bio it asked what your favorite band was but I didn't recognize any of the options except Owl City because they did the song used in the credits of Wreck-It-Ralph, so I chose that one. I had to have been like, 8 or 9 I think. I still have a Katsuma McDonald's toy as well as a McDonald's toy of one of those purple fluffball things that look like the fuzzies from Mario.
I've long since drifted away from my elementary school friend, not because of any drama we just kinda lost contact due to life circumstances, and we slowly ended up having less and less in common as time went on anyways. I was sad to hear Moshi Monsters closed, because it means I'll never see the conversations we had on the pinboards again.

I would love for Izzy to do a Toontown video! It was my favorite, too. My sister had some personal info stolen from her by playing Toontown House: I think they didn’t use a token system to log in so your email and etc. was just available for people to find if they knew how to get it.
Corporate Clash is a pretty fun change to the original game. I hadn’t heard about Altis trying to get on Steam but I’ll have to look up that drama now.

I was one of the first 10,000 users on Moshi just before the massive boom in popularity and I grew up on this site’s social media aspects with the pinboard for real life school friends and the forums for other kids I didn’t know. I stopped using it around 2012 when they added the word filter and I couldn’t have chaotic conversations anymore
I purposefully caused so much drama, saw drama in pinboards and even saw the person who hacked my account gloat about knowing my password on someone’s pinboard. I was devastated but looking back, Moshi really was the wild west to me outside of the fun colourful online world. I miss online worlds like that but I’m glad to see kids being just as unhinged on sites like Roblox

I was absolutely obsessed with this game, and was so sad that it quietly shut down like it did. Everyone in my school had the figures and cards and traded them with each other. I had six accounts, and I even managed to convince my parents to pay for the membership for my main monster. My room was full of Moshi merchandise, I still have most of it to this day. I remember buying some of the merch just because it came with a secret code for a rare Moshling or item. They even had a Moshi Monsters event at this theme park I went to, they were giving out a rare Moshling to everyone there. I felt so cool when I got the rare Moshling, until they made it available to everyone a few months later. There was someone dressed as a Katsuma monster that you could take photos with, and I stalked them throughout the whole park. Eventually I lost interest and moved onto games like Stardoll, but I still checked my monster at least once every year until the site closed.

i love this topic !! recently i regressed back into my moshi monster phase when i found out about the rewritten site, and oh boy… i totally didnt (yes i did) spend a lot of time and money looking for old second hand merch 😭 i bought the moshi magazines and love looking through them when im bored and thinking about my childhood… i used to own the little squishy moshling toys, the ds games, the guide books, plushies, stationery sets, collectible cards… it was honestly an addiction that my mom probably shouldnt have fueled… i remember this one feature on the site where you could print out a sorta “business card” esque paper where it had ur monster and account stats like friend count and level, and they were meant to share and trade with friends…. but oh boy did i abuse that feature… i made my older friend print out at least 30 of those things for me and i spent all night perfectly cutting them out and then proceeded to pass them out at school to anyone who played the game… i was seriously on my social networking shit

I can say from experience as a kid I lost interest QUICKLY on the merchandise side of things. As more and more moshlings were made I felt less and less attached and less and less drawn to spending money to collect them. Which is honestly just what I think a lot of kids felt too. Though I still hold my Ecto and a little gold wrestler penguin I got close to my heart despite how obvious it is now they were just getting money from me.
I'm gonna be happy when in the future their worth goes up (I hope) and I can make some mad money off these little things

Did anyone else get to see the Moshi Bus? It stopped outside of Silverburn Shopping Centre iirc. We got to walk around it and honestly it was such a cool idea? A tour bus for kids to see a physical manifestation of their online obsession, it was the most exciting thing at the time.

Moshi monsters! I remember being obsessed with the things for a while, especially the moshlings. At some point, though, I remember having something pop up about the moshlings either being "taken away" or "running away" and then getting turned into piles of grey goop, and after that I was terrified of Doctor Strangeglove and his weird machines. Of course, one could become a member to stop that, but I was fairly done with it at that point. I wanted nothing to do with the moshlings if my childlike mind just thought they would turn into goop if I failed to care for them, I guess.
The only other game I could remember spooking me as a young kid was some giant spiders in a Bella Sara mini game-- not sure if that was ever as big of a game, but sure was a staple for the young horse girl demographic, especially with its magical horses.

In 2013, there was another Moshi Monsters game exclusive to the still-new Nintendo 3DS... Katsuma Unleashed. I played through it, and it's a simple kid-friendly platformer game with decent graphics. The game suffers from quite a lot of slowdown though, which doesn't improve on the faster "New 3DS" consoles. Each game also came with a code for a virtual Moshling, which is completely useless now.
