33:22 actually no, zira's death had to happen. they cut the scene from the final release, but there's a cut scene that shows that zira didn't fall by accident. she actually let go of the cliff herself, instead of allowing kiara to help her (hence her smile as she falls down). she was so consumed by her hatred, she would rather die then let "an enemy" help her. say what you will about her, but that woman was hardcore.

13:32 To answer your question, it's been implied in both this movie and the fanbase that Scar chose Kovu over Nuka mainly because Kovu is a healthier cub (he doesn't have termites like Nuka and groes up to be a well-built lion) and he looks the most like Scar, further feeding his ego and continuing his legacy and likeness.

-During the ambush scene, Zira and the Outsiders were originally gonna kill Simba. But the creators, decided not to go through with it cause it would’ve been a repeat of Mufasa’s death.
-There’s a deleted post-credit scene to this movie. And in this scene, Timon and Pumbaa go to the Outlands and feed on the termites there. And it ends with Timon making a fourth wall breaking reference to Disneyland.

But then the movie keeps going, and we're reminded that the Outlanders are still the same lions they were before they were banished, and whether anyone is ready to acknowledge it or not, Scar meant something to them.

I learned about it this week - already almost 10 years after it aired. We know about the Timon and Pumbaa series though (1995) which newer fans usually don't know about. So the Lion Guard can't be considered as canon if we talk purely about the movies and their backstory. The movies were made without TLG in mind. Simba’s character development in this movie isn’t talked about enough. He was traumatized from the first movie’s events rather than the usual Disney formula of the character virtually acting like nothing ever happened in the sequels. Though Simba rebuilt the pride lands he had a ton of PTSD that affected him as a father and a ruler. It was very interesting to see them take that route but this was the time Disney started doing something new with their main characters and going the unconventional route. Because while Simba wasn’t necessarily evil he was somewhat of an antagonist in the movie as well but at the same time, you could understand why. To me this movie was way better written than the first and the soundtrack is better too lol

Fun Fact: The song "He Lives In You" is also in the Lion King Broadway musical. And let me tell you, it is beautiful!!! It's one of my favorite songs. Simba still misses his father and, as we saw, still feels guilty for what happened to the point he has a nightmare, but he knows Mufasa still lives on inside of him.

The voice actress who did Zira passed away a few years back. Her voice used to scare me when I was younger. Zira is an underrated villain.
By the way, Kovu is NOT Scar's child given that he'd be related to Simba and Kiara otherwise. If I recalled this right, that was in the original script or something until they'd seen that they would be family members and all. In fact, we don't really know who is the father to Zira's children. Its implied that Scar might be the father to Nuka and Vitani but we just don't know.

To Nuka he most likely is given how jealous is of Kovu being chosen instead of him, he has the same facial structure and fur color too. Vitani I highly doubt she's related to scar, she way too different in fur and eye color. Kovu already stated he's not related even though he looks like he could be. It's really Vitani that stands out of the three to me. I doubt she may be related to Zira too, maybe adopted? Or takes more after her father.

Quick fact: Nuka's death had a deleted part. After zira gently shushes him, his last words were "well... i finally got your attention, didn't i?....."
And about zira's death, she was originally gonna commit suicide by letting go. But then disney decided to change the idea cuz they thought it was way too dark.
Another deleted moment was when mufasa appears to simba after he banished kovu. Mufasa scolds him for how simba is slowly becoming like scar. And man, how I wish they added that moment. As a kid, i hated simba for how unfair he was. Sure as an adult, i do understand why he couldn't trust kovu, but yet i still do feel disappointed in simba for how of a fool he was.

The Lion King 1 and 2 both share a special place in my heart. Favourite movies hands down. Simba's Pride is definitely the most solid Disney sequel out there. Most are good, but this is great. And the soundtrack is as phenomenal as the first one, if not more so. Can't beat the Circle of Life, but this soundtrack is unbeatable ❤️❤️❤️
My one flaw with it is how many times the number of lionesses changes during the battle 😂 One minute there's like 6 either side and the next there's more like 20! 😂😂
Also, The Lion Guard is a movie and a series. Movie came first and then there's a three season series. It is a little childish and the animation is obviously a bit cheaper cause it's only a series but it's not bad 😊

There’s actually a little bit more lore around Scar that happened in a show called the lion guard, where the main character is the second child of simba, Kion, the lion guard is esentially like a honorary knights thing that protects the circle of life. And in that show, we learned how Scar got the scar on his eye and why his name is scar
In the show we see that he meets a strange lion who influences Scar that the mightiest lion should he king, which Scar of course believed was him, he agreed to overthrowing Mufasa but the lion was sceeming and had a cobra that big him across the eye, hense giving him the scar. The strange lion would cure the venom in the scar if Scar agreed to do as he told, but he killed him instead. Expected to be praised for stopping him, but all Mufasa did was nickname his brother Scar. After that Scar knew that Mufasa didn’t deserve to be king
And that strange lion Scar met, some people have speculated that he was Kovu’s father

  • @JayietheRiverWarrior
    @JayietheRiverWarrior Год назад +6

Yesssss, thank you for reacting to this, I love seeing reactions to this movie! :D And now, for the obligatory triviadump about this movie and the surrounding fandom and lore.
    - The song "He lives in you" played at the beginning also features in the Broadway production of The Lion King! In that version, it starts as a song Mufasa sings to Simba about the great kings of the past watching over him ("They live in you"), then later Rafiki sings it again to Simba while trying to convince him to return to the Pride Lands, turning it into a song about how Mufasa lives on in him ("He lives in you"). I believe it was originally written for a sort of compilation soundtrack that came out after the first movie, then both the Broadway show and the second movie decided to use it.
    - Name translations! Just like the first movie, the names are all words in Swahili. Zira means "hate", Nuka means "smell" or "smelly" (poor bastard), Vitani (Kovu and Nuka's sister) is usually translated as "I am war", and Kovu means "scar", Zira definitely wasn't being subtle when she named him. XD
    - Zira and her follower's absence from the battle at the end of the first movie (since we never saw any lions fighting on Scar's side) has always been a source of fan speculation. Some think Zira had left pride rock with her followers to give birth to Kovu and/or Vitani somewhere secluded and safe before the fight, thus missing out on it for that reason, others think that she and her lionesses were out hunting, there's all kinds of theories. Open-ended stuff like that can be frustrating, but can also be a great source of speculation for fanfictions. XD
    - Kovu and Nuka state several times that Scar wasn't Kovu's father - originally in the script, he was actually going to be Scar's son, until someone in the production realized that that would make him related to Kiara. XD So they scrapped the "Scar's son" angle and just made vague references to Scar taking him in and choosing him as his heir without much explanation as to why or how. This, of course, has also led to much fan speculation and fanfic-ing. Many fans theorize that Nuka is the son of Zira and Scar, but that he was so weak and unimpressive as a cub that Scar rejected him, leading to Zira choosing to neglect him in favor of Kovu, and also Nuka's bitterness towards Kovu since technically he's the rightful heir. There was even an interview where one of the directors claimed that Kovu wasn't Zira's son either and was adopted, so that adds yet another layer of speculation.
    - Shortly after the release of the first movie, and long before the planning and release of the second, a book called "The Lion King: Six New Adventures" was released, which centered around the adventures of Kopa, son of Simba and Nala. There is no mention of Kopa in this movie, obviously, or in The Lion Guard (which centers around Kiara's younger brother Kion). The filmmakers likely just didn't consider the books canon and ignored them, but Kopa is popular among fans, so most work him into their fanfictions by having him as the first child of Simba and Nala, who either dies or disappears before the events of the second movie. The most popular fan theory is that Zira killed him (or drove him off), leading to Zira's exile, Simba's intense hatred of her, and also his extreme protectiveness and paranoia over Kiara's safety. No idea why Simba and Nala are apparently so obsessed with K- names, but I do love a naming theme, so it works for me. XD
    - Fun fact - the voice actor for Kovu is the same voice actor as for Goofy's son (as a teenager) Max in most of the movies/shows/projects that Max is in, Haku in the english dub of Spirited Away (and the voice actress for Zira voices Yubaba in the same dub, funnily enough), and Binx in Hocus Pocus. ^^
    - As others mentioned, there is a deleted line from Nuka's death scene where he adds to Zira "Well, I finally got your attention, didn't I?", which the filmmakers cut because they worried about sending kids the wrong message that doing dangerous stuff to get your parents attention is a good idea. :P There's also a deleted bit from Zira's death scene where she deliberately chooses to let go of the rock rather than accept her enemy's help. It was cut because yikes and it being too dark for Disney, but if you look closely, you can see that Zira is smiling as she falls into the water - a creepy leftover from that deleted scene that the animators did not have time to redo.

As soon as he gave Kovu a chance and talked with him, he was immediately ambushed and almost killed in the process, and Zira telling Kovu, "Well done." Is pretty much the final nail in the coffin

When Adult Simba meets Rafiki years later and is visited by the spirit of Mufasa, they sing “He Lives In You” showing the lesson Simba is taught comes to a complete circle. About Lion Guard its true that is intended for a younger audience but the show was well written enough that you can enjoy it as an adult, they took advantage of the show to explain a lot of the lore of lion king and the how the world of the movie they made really work so I believe that is the fun for us, for instance in the show we get to found out more about Scar and why he became the vilan we knew and a lot more. I also like how they introduced words from the Swahili I believe in the language of the show, thats a lot of good songs, and the explanation at the end of the series as to why his son isn't on the second movie I thought it was really good. If you thinking about it I recommend, you can put the most important episodes together and it will feel like movies🥰
