John Cena's UNDERWHELMING WrestleMania Career...

- John Cena is one of the most iconic wrestlers of all time, a man who was the face of the WWE for over 10 years. In his career he has wrestled at WrestleMania over 15 times, and just like any other legend that reached his status, he main evented his fair share and put on some great matches.. However as time has gone on and Cena has gone away to Hollywood, it recently occured to me that although Cena was the top star in the company for over a decade.. His WrestleMania resume is very UNDERWHELMING. We missed out on so many matches and moments that the fans should have got, and as Roman Reigns is about to main event his 8th Mania, its crazy to think Cena only main evented 5. Lets go back and take a look at Cena's WM career and see why it was SO UNDERWHELMING?

Pat orton wasn’t the guy that injured Cena in 2007 it was Kennedy 😂😂😂
@@JayWIll2000s yeah it was Kennedy not orton
They made a habit of pitting Cena head to head with his biggest rivals at Summerslam rather than WrestleMania. Edge, Orton twice, Punk, Styles...
Yup exactly. Lesnar too.
@@Strangepeteright! WrestleMania should be the stage where rivalries should compete or culminate at that event. Instead we get Cena vs. Theory or Cena vs. Miz twice! Once in a boring forgettable main event that even Miz doesn’t remember and a mixed tag match that doesn’t mean anything away since Nikki is no longer with him.
@@luisa.barrueta1822 Nah man miz had no business winning that match the rock sabotaged John cena.
And he actually lost to them all to bar Orton in 07
Cena vs Edge straight up at WM 25 would’ve been legendary.
Cena not challenging the undertaker at the prime of the streak will never make sense. NEVER
It did, Taker never took on the top guy diring the streak.
I agree but from a booking standpoint it would be almost impossible. WWE knew Cena would receive nuclear heel heat if he ended the streak and be booed ala Roman Reigns after Mania 33, and if Taker defeated Cena it wouldn't make Cena be the top guy nor would he probably get his rematch. Therefore the best option was to keep them on separate brands, Cena the king of RAW, Taker the king of Smackdown.
Nobody can win
They didn't want either guy to lose.

Cena-Orton. Cena-Edge. Cena-Punk. Cena-Taker.
Those 4 matches are seriously a missed opportunity.
Those match ups were happening so frequently in the year, on RAWs, etc. It was super underwhelming at the time. They literally had to add an additional parameter to it, aka Big Show & Triple H to make it more intriguing. Now, as usual we appreciate those feuds more with time.
The star power was so big back then that you had to put those guys against one another on RAWs and such haha!! Yet somehow not wrestlemania

While it is disappointing that Cena didn't have the best WM career, I think it also showcases how good of a year-round performer he was. He's a mega icon not for his feats at WM, but for the rivalries he had, how much he interacted with fans, and just being an overall great performer. Even with a weak WM legacy, the fact he's remembered this much in the public eye just shows how much of a GOAT he is.
Man wwe is not all about WrestleMania.there are many events all around.so you will get lot amount of feuds and storylines and fights.but that can add to your legacy as great proffesiinal wrestler.but wm is the flagship event and him being a major star in WWE.still doesn't had atleast good WrestleMania career is so terrible.

The fact That Cena never got a singles match with 3 of his all time classic rivals in Randy Orton, Edge and CM Punk is downright CRIMINAL 💔
As a Cena fan, I didn't know that Cena's Wrestlemania career started to go downhill around Wrestlemania 24. I thought it started going downhill around 27 where Cena's match against Miz was basically used to set up Cena vs Rock 1. Cena getting thrown into triple threat matches in back to back years seemed kinda odd. I especially agree with the take that Taker vs Cena should have happened during Cena's prime.
At least Cena beating Rusev at 31 led to Cena making the US title relevant with his weekly open challenges.
It’s not true at all cena wrestlemania career didn’t go downhill at all cena won at mania 25 in that awesome triple threat match and at mania 26 against Batista.

John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels in 07’ such a classic underrated masterpiece of a match. Having that and Batista vs. Undertaker World Heavyweight Championship during the prime days of the streak might have been one of the greatest co-mains and main events back to back of all time
It shouldve been Cena vs Edge at WM25. I always hated that Big Show was in it.
Its actually a solid match still but wouldve been so much more hype of Cena got to face his best rival 1 on 1 at WM
The biggest dream match we never had is Undertaker vs John Cena in an I Quit Match for the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania. Streak vs Legacy
Cena is an emotion, please wwe one last time, make cena a 17th time wwe champion. Cena vs orton, cena vs punk, cena vs edge, cena vs taker, cena vs style, of course at mania, but it never happened😢😢
Dont think so.
Cena snapping the streak by turning heel would've been legendary
I agree with you when it comes to his match at 25. Not necessarily the same with 24. Cena just came back from an injury that no one was expecting him to come back from for close to a year. He literally pulled an MJ 95 and faxed the head office days before the big game letting them know that he was back. I honestly think a triple threat match was the best way to go. Especially if they already promised Triple H the title match before finding out that Cena was cleared to compete. I also think it was for the best to give Orton the win. Not only did it not devalue either man in defeat, but it also boosted Orton's credibility overcoming both guys. But yeah 25 should have definitely been Cena vs Edge. If anything that should have been the climax of their rivalry instead of the Backlash match that we got a month later.
The fact that super Cena never faced the Undertaker around 07-13 is just beyond crazy like we don't even got any feud between the two on any PPV let alone at WrestleMania... it was easily the biggest match of all time if they would have build it properly
I could see the argument being that those 2 were so protected and iconic that making 1 of em lose to the other would hurt their Aura .

WWE needs to have a match with John Cena vs the writers. Cena was so cool but got watered down in 2008. It’s like everyone gets watered down to appeal to family base audience. Rock, Kevin hart, Cena
Edge vs Cena, Taker vs Cena and Punk vs Cena were all missed opportunities, It's crazy that it never happened at Mania cause they all had history with Cena.

U could say it’s underwhelming. But he would main event like 80% of the other PPV’s during that time 😅🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️
It's weird that Cena peaked so early at WrestleMania. His last great WrestleMania match was 12 years ago and the one before that was 17 years ago.
"Only main evented 5 Wrestlemanias" is a crazy thing to say.
Bro is consistent 🔥🔥🔥
Cena-Orton '08, Cena-Edge '09, Cena-Punk '11, Cena-Taker '13. This is what we wanted.
Cena movie career started to pick up around 14-15. And I think he checked out and the execs at wwe knew it
08 should have definitely been Orton. 09 Edge. 10 Batista. 11 is the toss up to me. I get pushing the Miz for an experiment, but THIS would have been the moment for Cena vs Taker. Build up to the next year and have the Rock save the streak at the last second. Gives everything more meaning. 28 vs Rock, 29 Punk and 30 Brock and it works. Imo that would be a PERFECT run for him and putting over Brock at 30 instead of Summerslam makes it even more memorable. Just my take, thanks for the content bud.
100% agree up until 29. Like punk suggested make it a 3 way dance. punk goes early then cena/rock for 10-15 mins. This was cena still gets his win back over rock since that’s clearly what they wanted. Also kinda feel like 30 was just daniel bryan’s time
@RipVino24 oh don't get me wrong I wish 29 had been a 3 way because it would have legitimized Punk. But there was no way Vince was booking that. Punk was never his guy
Eh... That would've been a shitty way for Undertaker to win by having someone else intervene on his behalf

A lot of Cena's best matches outside of Wrestlemania. You could honestly make the argument that Cena is Mr. Royal Rumble. Think about it. I can't think of many people who have had more iconic moments and matches than John Cena at the rumble.
2005: Cena and Batista eliminate each other
2006: First match of his iconic rivalry with Edge
2007: Last man standing match with Umaga
2008: Shock return at the 08 Rumble
2009: Rematch with JBL
2010: Start of his rivalry with Batista
2013: Wins second Royal Rumble
2014: Final match with Randy
2015: Triple Threat with Seth and Brock
2017: GOATED match with AJ Styles
I prayed four times like this and I got it he making more than one video of a month 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿😀😃😃
I did not expect that big show video in there😂
Mania 25 match was underrated
I’d keep his first 4 Mania matches as they were. But from 24 onwards
vs Orton: main event. Unfortunately that would mean the great Edge vs Taker match wouldn’t main event but I feel the storyline going into it with Cena’s comeback and Rumble win and Orton being the one that injured him and took his title made it bigger. Let Cena rest up between the rumble win and Mania and have Orton retain inside the elimination chamber rather than throwing HHH into it. Cena wins
25 - vs Edge: I’d keep Orton vs HHH as the main event again because of the storyline. They should’ve made that match a no DQ. Cena wins
26 - vs Batista. Have Cena lose
27 - vs The Undertaker: Main event. Taker had a classic with HHH at the next Mania anyway so they could sacrifice the no holds barred match. Make Cena the heel in this one. Idk make him feel pissed of that most people think the streak is a bigger attraction than him being champ. Play off the fact Taker was in the main event last year. Taker wins
28 - vs The Rock: Main Event. Keep it as it was. The build. Result. Everything the same from that first bout
29 - vs CM Punk: Main Event. That match they had on Raw in 2013 should’ve been the main event of that years Mania for the title. Cena Wins
30 and 31 leave it how it was. 32 if he avoided injury have him face Lesnar. 33 should’ve definitely been vs Styles for the title
27 Sounds fresh as hell. That was a very terrible mania, altho, TBH, I didn't mind the Taker match that year. The Rock as host was meh. That sounds like a cool way to make Cena a heel without really making him a heel.
Cena vs taker would have been so awesome man 😭🔥🔥
Looking at the Cena thumbnail you posted up on this recent video, i believe he looked a lot better if he rocked a pair of Jordan 4's (at that wrestlemania). Either the Bred, the Black Cat, or better yet, the Fear colorway...
I love Jordan 4’s def my favs
Cena vs Punk at WM29 should have happened specially considering the magic they put on together at that Raw..
That could have been a mania classic
The problem with Cena at WM24 is that he was hotshotted into the title picture on the count of coming back from injury early. Even if he won, he'd be dropping the title to Triple H at the next PPV.
He was only gone for like 3 months and was champ the last time we seen him what are you talking about
@pleaseshutup7053 He came back from injury early and disrupted the established storyline between Orton and Triple H at the time. Vince presumably wanted to create a moment but then realised it was a spanner in the works which is why Hunter won the chamber match and we got the triple threat.
No way they were giving Cena a 7 month title reign on the back of just returning from an injury that halted a year long title reign.

Wrestlemania 23 was the perfect time for Cena vs Taker. The story was there and they sure did tease it.
But we can't complain really about what we got that year with Cena vs HBK and Taker vs Batista.
Absolutely agreed .💯We’re not taking away those 2 incredible matches at WrestleMania 23. It’s still a one of the best main events in WrestleMania history.
Cena vs undertaker in their primes at WrestleMania 23 or 30 is a big Missed ..
On the other hand, Batista and the undertaker should’ve been in the main event at WrestleMania 23.
Batista vs. Undertaker was the first time I thought that the streak was gonna end, I know many tend to say it was Orton at WrestleMania 21 but nah, I can understand why tho with him being a young guy at the time and all but Batista felt like the first credible threat to the streak
Cena vs Taker, Cena vs Orton, Cena vs Edge
I've thought about these so many times :(
Edge and Orton did such a good job at being cool heels, not only were they despicable but they managed to fit the part the same way a baby face would

Yes
It's the only hope
I still remember Rollins snapping that chair on reigns and ambrose
It's about to be 10 fucking yrs to that shit
Time flies
And for all the long time rivalries that did not headline WrestleMania like orton vs Cena , Cena vs edge or Cena vs Undertaker
I do hope Rollins vs reigns do happens and reigns beats him clean because Seth always made a point

2) taxes
3) Seth beats Roman when it matters the most
They have to address it
Imagine John Cena main events WrestleMania 41 one last time.
My booking for Cena at Mania's
20: Big Show: Perfect opponent and Cena had to cheat to win, but was still embarking on his face turn.
21-23: All perfect choices and all perfectly built rivals for Cena to be established as a main eventer.
24: Randy Orton: I adore Triple H but he could've faced Orton at Backlash while he could've faced someone like JBL (That could've been a cool feud) while Cena and Orton had the story. Although at the end of the day I still really liked the match.
25: Edge: Solely Edge! You don't need Big Show in this match, have him in the MITB match. Edge and Cena is a perfect rivalry that if HHH & Orton were to have a No DQ and Edge and Cena went out on their own, you could've had one of the Greatest Wrestlemania's
26: Batista: I liked the match, would've had Cena lose.
27: The Miz & John Morrison: Basically do the match you do at Extreme Rules, but this way John Morrison and Miz can still have their heat together while Cena and Rock is still the big set up for next years Mania.
28: Rock: Perfect wouldn't change.
29: Rock & CM Punk: Just the best of both worlds, you capitalize on Punk being another factor and you still get the big Cena and Rock match, also Rock probably doesn't get hurt and Hollywood doesn't get precious about him wrestling.
30: Bray Wyatt: Have him go agro on Wyatt, have Wyatt beat him or just have Cena get dq'ed. Don't have Wyatt beaten.
31: Rusev: It's cool for what it is.
33: AJ Styles: Give them an Ironman match. The two were the hottest thing ever for many.
34: Tag with Undertaker: Even though I don't mind the 34 squash match, it's still a huge nothing match, Taker and Cena should've just had a tag match if it was going to be a nothing match.
35: Kurt Angle: It should've been this, even have Barron Corbin enter the ring and then Cena shows up, FU's Corbin out the ring and demands Angle face him for his final match.
39: Tag with Edge against Judgement Day. It would've been super cool.
Your 39 idea is actually pretty good. Wished they did that instead of Austin Theroy
It’s strange to say this, but as someone who grew up with the attitude era & hates Cena, to someone who’s favorite wrestler is Cena, you did a great job with this video & I agree with everything you said
4:18 “Big Show’s back & he’s ready to ruin another wrestlemania match for no reason” 😂😂😂
I wouldn’t call his wrestlemania career underwhelming, in his earlier mania years he had classics and won most of them, it was only in his later years that they didn’t give him much to work with
I was literally just thinking about how he never really faced never really faced his biggest rivals 1 on 1 at mania. This is crazy timing 😂
Its also kinda off we never got Cena vs Roman at a Mania. Never had that official pass of the torch moment.
Instead Undertaker having triple h in back to back manias and Shawn Michaels in back to back manias he should’ve fought Cena
Love your page and style. I’m far from a cena fan, in fact I stopped watching in 05 when the company strapped the rocket to his back. But all that aside, you nailed it… can’t believe they didn’t have a cena vs orton and cena Vs edge at least ONCE at WrestleMania.
Reminds me of how we never got Rock Vs HHH in a singles match at mania. Or Austin Vs Rock Vs HHH in a triple threat at ANY point.
Thank you for the kind words bro, I’m glad you enjoyed 🫡
Imma be honest, as iconic as WM 17 was, even Austin vs Triple H as a singles would have been special, that no way out match >>>, or maybe if Austin’s heel turn was better and more successful, that could have main eventer 18 👀
@@WrestlinGifs I do think the plan for Wm17 sort of shifted on the go based on the Rock’s decision to leave to film the scorpion king. The company was WHITE hot in late 2000 by the time austin and taker returned. They had a full deck of cards to work with. If 17 wasn’t used as the conclusion of the attitude era, I think Austin/HHH as the main event would’ve been great.
I also agree with 18… Austin HHH for the two belts should’ve been the main event. I’ve always felt 18 was the one mania that would’ve benefited from the card being rebooked/fantasy booked. Here’s mine:
Edge d. Christian(c) Ladder match IC
DDP d. Regal(c) European title
RVD d. Booker T (book feud around fallout from alliance/put on classic trilogy RR, No way out and Mania)
Maven/Goldust HC remains same
BillyChuck(c) def Hardy’s Dudley’s APA tag title
Vince def Flair Winner gets #1 draft pick
Angle def Jericho submission match
Taker/Kane def Hall/Nash
Rock def hogan
Trish def Lita (c) women’s title
HHH def Austin(c) Undisputed
its not his fault crybaby they saw something in cena they wanted him to be the face of the company and the company was entering a new era for themselves stop being naive here !
@@simenzelwedlamini what are you babbling about?
@@InYourHouse316 u stopped watch because of cena get over yourself !
Looking at things now,I never ever thought Cena will become a part timer.I was used to seeing Cena every week from that rapper dude to Super Cena
His later Mani matches could have built up talent but they really didn't benefit anyone after it happened. Even last year, I thought John Cena vs Austin Theory would have been a passing of the torch moment. Instead the match was very mid and Theory didn't really do much at all after it.
-HBK should won
-His first 5 outta 6 Manias actually hit for me
-Miz, Rock 2, Theory, not putting Wyatt or Rusev over…… all stinky
-Cena had a underwhelming Mania for his career, wouldn’t say disappointing or nothing though.
This is how I would book John Cena’s Wrestlemania Career. (Left out WM 20, 21, 23, 26, 28, 31, 32, 36, and 40 cause all of those are perfect or he was injuried.)
WM 22: John Cena vs Edge (Winner: John Cena)
WM 24: John Cena vs Randy Orton (Winner: John Cena)
WM 25: John Cena vs Edge Rematch (Winner: John Cena
WM 27: John Cena vs Wade Barret (in my booking, The Nexus wins at Summerslam and this is where their are ACTUALLY buried.) (also, Winner: John Cena)
WM 29: John Cena vs CM Punk (Winner: John Cen.)
WM 30: John Cena vs The UnderTaker (Winner: UnderTaker)
WM 33: John Cena vs Aj Styles (Winner: Aj Styles) (also, Aj turns face after this.)
WM 34: John Cena vs The UnderTaker (rematch, match is WAY more longer and better.) (also, Winner: UnderTaker)
WM 35: John Cena vs Kurt Angle Retirement Match (Winner: John Cena)
(I know that Cena was in Hollywood when these Wrestlemanias took place, but whatever.)
WM 37: John Cena vs Roman Reigns vs Daniel Bryan vs Edge (Winner: Roman Reigns
WM 38: John Cena vs Drew McIntyre (Winner: Drew McIntyre)
WM 39: John Cena vs Austin Theroy (match is longer and better, NOT for the U.S championship, and Cena eventually wins. Might even cause an Austin Theroy face turn.) (already said it, but Winner: John Cena)
WM 41: Randy Orton (Winner: John Cena)
This guy is the reason wwe went worldwide. Truly the greatest of all time
I have always said that one of WWE's biggest misses was the Cena vs Orton rivalry. They faced each other at Summerslam a couple times, but when you have the two biggest stars in the company (they were my generation's Rock and Austin), you have to make that match. They could've gone back to back in '08 and '09.
Ma boi Jimi Sierra 🔥🔥🔥
the Wrestling Revolution player in me seeing this🤣🤣🤣🤣
😭😭
Here’s to hoping WWE doesn’t make the same mistake with Cody. They’ve delivered on Cody vs Roman, but they already laid the foundation for potential matches with CM Punk vs Cody (via that fire promo) and Cody vs Gunther (via Cody eliminating him in back to back rumbles) so I’m hoping we get both of those matches at Mania, ideally in the main event. Drew vs Cody would also be a fire Mania match considering their similar history
Well now that Vince isn't there, they have the freedom to actually book proper storylines and course correct with fan feedback, so I think Cody will be fine.
Cody isn’t on cena level and never will be. As soon as he wins the title the fans will turn on him anyway
@@pleaseshutup7053 It’s okay. Because we all know what wrestling fans are.
@@pleaseshutup7053The smarks will turn on Cody. The kids are the ones that I am confident will still support Cody. As long as the kids still support Cody then Cody will remain the top guy. This is not the mid 2010s where most of the WWE crowd were smarks now more casuals are at the crowd.
@@petersonofleo11 I don’t think you’ve been to a wwe show this year and anyway the smark fans reaction to the rock says they still here
WWE not doing Cena vs The Undertaker at the wrestlemania 29 is the biggest flop of 21st century
This is how Cena’s WrestleMania career should’ve gone:
2004 - Big Show
2005 - JBL
2006 - Triple H
2007 - Shawn Michaels
2008 - Randy Orton
2009 - Edge
2010 - Batista
2011 - The Undertaker
2012 - The Rock
2013 - CM Punk
After that, I don’t really care.
Underwhelming my ass, his first 6 mania matches are classics
He last main evented wm was 2012 so...
@@maruf7956 what does that have to do with anything?
@@BrockSamsonVB my point is it was long time ago
@@maruf7956 what does it being a long time ago have to do with his first 6 mania matches being classics?
I'm sorry but the AA on Edge and Big Show was and still is a legendary spot.
It's crazy to think that for the Many Many, many times that we see these matches. John cena never had a one on one match with Edge & Randy, His greatest rivals
You're wrong about Wm 24. This was perfect for Orton to win despite everything. I wanted triple h to win I thought Cena would win but Orton escaped. That was the moment that made Orton. I remember 8% voted for him to win and yeah after Cenas epic return it made sense for him to win it all but that's what makes it special. Orton prior was booked as a chicken shit champion. Should've lost the title but didn't because he found a way dirty or not and adding triple h made sense considering all he was put through since the infamous no mercy ppv after Cena got injured. The triple threat made perfect sense and even though he lost the title at the next ppv this win cemented Orton as a main eventer idc what anyone says
Realistically it has been proven that Vince only books matches for himself. Moreover, plenty of us turn into Cena haters when he keeps winning, imagine if he even did that at Wrestlemania too, which is probably why there are all these triple threats to not make Super Cena lose directly.
he was the face of the company at the time doing want he was told and its wrestling crybaby what do u expect and its scripted and u cena haters were blinded by hate on the man and now people realize how good cena is right now but bad now cause his getting old and now u feel some sort of sympathy for him give me a god damn break !
Honestly
I hope Cena's final match is at WM against Randy Orton, and it's either i quit or last man standing match
22, 23, 26, 28, 31
His Mania career is fine. It's not the best ever but it's a respectable group of really good to great matches under his belt
To this day it still bothers me that we never got these
