- The other day I made a video on WM 31 and one of the biggest matches on that show was Sting vs Triple H, a match that became infamous the moment it was over. Almost everyone watching wanted to see Sting get the win. However instead we were left with a Triple H pedigree and a 1 2 3.. So it got me thinking, over the years what are some other examples of WrestleMania matches that had the wrong winner? Lets take a look!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that thinks this especially as the rest of The Undertaker's matches serve no purpose.
The Undertaker winning didn't further CM Punk's career in any way. Brock Lesnar would still have gotten his major push if he forced Triple H to retire and won the championship soon after.
It was just unnecessary for him to lose one of the best aspects of his career. Ending it 20-0. Hell in A Cell, his two fiercest Wrestlemania rivals. End of An Era would be such a great close to an awesome career of one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.

Spinner Belt should have only been used when Cena was champion, same way the Smoking Skull belt was only used when Austin had it. Made no sense for anyone else where the belt.

I heard Austin was supposed to return at WrestleMania 2000 and help The Rock win the WWF Title, but Austin wasn't ready to return just yet, so they postponed that ending to Backlash that year.

Personally I was hoping back in the day that Jeff would win the rumble and beat HHH at Mania for it. But then he just won it at Armageddon instead, which little me was also very ecstatic for.

Wrestlemania 25: Matt Hardy vs Jeff Hardy, a match nobody wanted to see so might as well have had Jeff go over
Wrestlemania 26: MITB, literally anybody else in the match would have been a better pick to win than Jack Swagger
Wrestlemania 26: Triple H vs Sheamus, Triple H was going part-time and Sheamus would have benefited much more with a win
Wrestlemania 29: Fandango vs Chris Jericho, just wrong...
Wrestlemania 32: Intercontinental Ladder Match, no point in having Zack Ryder win just the lose to Miz the next day
Wrestlemania 34: US Title Match, Jinder winning was pointless and Rusev was white hot at this point
Wrestlemania 34: Undertaker vs John Cena, don't disagree with the result but it shouldn't have been a squash

Wrestlemania 36: Becky Lynch vs Shayna Baszler, they booked Shayna like a monster at EC and Becky left a month later anyway
Wrestlemania 36: Charlotte Flair vs Rhea Ripley, Charlotte did not need this win or another NXT title run
Wrestlemania 37: Bobby Lashley vs Drew McIntyre, Bobby was a good champ but Drew deserved his moment before a crowd
Wrestlemania 37: Randy Orton vs The Fiend, Bray losing to Randy twice at Mania was an injustice
John cena should have won once in a lifetime match vs the rock, then the rock should have questioned his own abilities and had training montages ( kinda like a rock movie) showing him trying to work his way back up to be the competitor he once was........ John Cena winning at WrestleMania 28 would have been a good passing of the torch moment but we still got that a year later for the WWE Championship and as you said, John Cena can lose a WrestleMania and still be fine, which he was even though WWE pretends that he wasn't in 2012.

Honorable Mentions: Mark Henry beating Ryback at WrestleMania 29 because just like AJ Styles 3 years later, Ryback became the number one contender immediately after for the same title; and Jinder Mahal losing the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale to Mojo Rawley because again he became the number one contender immediately after but also won the WWE Championship immediately after. I'd also have Shane McMahon beat The Undertaker because it would have made more sense from a storyline perspective since he would have actually earned the right to run Raw instead of being given the opportunity because Triple H and Stephanie McMahon were gone for a short period of time.
As a kid, I was so mad when Orton retained at WM24. At least my boy Triple H won the title a month later.
I look back today they made right decesion because Randy never had his own world title moment at WrestleMania
to be fair; the only reason it was a fatal four way is because they wanted to reward Mick Foley with a Mania main event for all his hard work

Cena 100% shouldve won at Mania 28 imo. They tried saying 2012 was the worst year of Cenas life because of the loss (he main evented more PPVs than both world champions AND BEAT BROCK LESNAR IN HIS RETURN) , and even kayfabe blamed his marriage on it. Cena was gonna be there, The Rock was already a mega-star and his popularity was gonna get even crazier when Fast 6 drops the next year. He'd be fine taking that L and then, idk, move onto Orton or HHH at Mania 29.
I didn't have a problem with the rock beating John cena at wm 28....one it was in rock hometown......two even though both were babyfaces but john cena acted like more of a heel in that fued.....and rock hasn't wrestled in years up until that point

Nobody expected Orton to win at WM 24, most people expected either the obvious RR winner or Triple H after his big comeback, that’s what makes it the perfect choice

Funny how in spite of having so many WrestleMania matches that he shouldn't have won, Triple H still has the most losses record at WM lol.
Straight up, Nakamura should’ve beaten AJ at WM 34. That loss killed all the momentum he had as a babyface and he hasn’t been the same since. He didn’t even need a long title reign since a lot of smackdown stars like Joe and Bryan could’ve been in contention too. The only good thing that came from it was AJ got a long reign with the WWE title, but that was it really.
My biggest hot take is that CM Punk should have beaten Taker at Mania 29 and then Taker should have retired. Paul Heyman orchestrating Punk to beat Taker, the guy who broke him in the industry, Taker retiring 20-1 and then if you give that win to Punk perhaps he stays in WWE after taking time off from that staph infection. You could have had Punk as the biggest heel ever and then after Bryan wins at Mania 30 build up towards Bryan vs Punk at Mania 31 in what probably would have been the most goated match ever.

WM 26 is a roller coaster of a WM show, both with action and outcome, but *I was there* and so it will always be special to me
Late comment but the thing that annoyed me the most about the wm24 triple threat was that they made John Cena look SO WEAK after his super saiyan return, go back and watch the match, he never lands the AA, and at the end he stays down for like 10 seconds after 1 pedigree, he didn't even get punted by Orton in that ending and still stayed down for the equivalent of being pinned twice

No. Rock had to win at WM 28. See, this wasn't just a match. This wasn't just a way to have Rock beat 3 top guys of different eras at WM. This was a STATEMENT about the Attitude era compared to the PG Era. I'm sorry that you grew up in the worst (most boring, watered-down) era of modern WWE possible. To the rest of us though, Cena, the "colorful" face of that latter era (I missed his "Wordlife" gimmick greatly) , winning, would've been the biggest slap in the face to the rest of us. Cena got his win the following year anyway, even won the WWE title, but it didn't carry the same metaphorical weight as the first match, fortunately, so we all lived with it.
Wrestlemania 32 was full of Wrong Winners
I was upset with the wrestlemania 24 triple threat match result, but it turned Orton into a legend no one thought he would win but him winning that match made everyone take him a lot more serious. And established him as a big star as he stepped out of cena and triple h and Batista shadow 😊

Also what really irritates me about Triple H Vs Booker T is that Booker T always defends it. I mean good on Book for being a good sport but that ending was BS.
I still haven’t seen the streak ending match and that’s sad an iconic wrestling moment I have no interest in seeing
I actually agreed with the TLC take I felt they should’ve given each team a victory and then built towards a culminating fourth match which could’ve potentially been a main event
It still boils my blood that in back to back years at WrestleMania 24 and 25 they shoehorned a 3rd guy (Triple H and Big Show) into what should’ve been singles matches with Cena. Now we look back and it’s criminal that John Cena never got to have singles matches at WrestleMania with Edge and Randy Orton respectively.
I couldn’t find the source but I read somewhere Finn actually wanted to lose the Mania match to Edge so he could retire the demon cause he hated putting the makeup on 😂
