    Dear Sir,
We just made this recipe tonight for me and my beautiful wife. It was wonderful! I have never had shake and bake, but I remember the commercial. It was so good, I can't believe it wasn't fried in oil. Next time , I think we will brine the bird beforehand. Another tip for those on a budget like us, save the bones. When we are done eating the legs, we will put all the bones in a pressure cooker for about 20 minuites with some onion ,celery and garlic to make stock. After picking out the bones, to make stock ,and adding the ingredients ,we will have a great chicken noodle soup! I know this isn't for everyone, but when times get tough, you do as you can. God bless You and Shan.
    Respectfully, Jon and Angie

You don’t have to make stock. Some people instead use the bones to make collagen like jello to take a little every day to help with joints or cartilage

Hey cowboy. I'm fortunate to have grown and taught to be a hunter (includes fishing) gatherer, preserverer. My smokehouse, freezer, rootcellar and larder seldom get to near zero, before we start filling 'em up again. My advice to you all is if you don't know how, befriend someone who does. And learn.

You must have gotten some rain down in your part of Oklahoma. If you use a dutch oven in my part of the Ozarks outside right now, you would be feeding the volunteer fire department that shows up for the wildfire because everything is so dry. Pray for rain for the farmers and ranchers. Love your videos and your dogs.

I got very used to legs right after college in the midst of the '08 crash. The best part about legs is you can keep a freezer bag of all the bones. When it's full: Roast them in a dutch oven, cover them with water, simmer a good 6-8 hours, you have a good stock. Add some veggies and you have a broth. Jar that stock up and freeze for later use!

yet another awesome video and recipe. I have been cooking with dutch ovens for about 40 years and love them. Never too old to learn new tricks though and picked up a couple great ones from you. The trivets are amazing. I used to use rocks, but not anymore. I made a couple for the 12"DO and one for my 16". The second and best tip is the flat shovel with the holes in it. I keep mine prominently displayed as its a great conversation piece as people always ask why I have a shovel with holes in it. I often use the drippings in the bottom of the dutch to make chicken gravy. I use real wood whenever I can. It just adds to the charm of cooking on a dutch. Often on our river trips we have to use charcoal due to fire restrictions. I greatly enjoy watching somebody try to cook on a dutch as our society is too focused on the need to know a specific temperature or time for cooking. Common for people just starting that want to know how many coals to use or how many charcoal briquettes. The answer is the same every time.....It depends. Just gotta get a feel for it and use the tricks of how hot it is on your hand. I greatly enjoy your style of cooking as it works well with my similar style. Thanks.

Thanks so much for showing a great/easy way to cook bone in/skin on chicken. I see so many people (who didn’t learn how to cook back in the day) use the boneless/skinless (imo, tasteless) chicken breasts that are so expensive!! Bone in/skin on thighs and drumsticks are probably the least expensive pre-cut meat. But, if you really want to make a great meal for your family that is very inexpensive, bake a whole chicken…(a ‘young fryer’) they are dirt cheap compared to other meat, easy to cook (many videos) doesn’t take forever, and any leftovers can be used in multiple ways. Also, I’m sure Kent’s coating method tastes fantastic, but if you have to, use the shake n’ bake, or whatever similar you can use. Also, that whole chicken will cook in one hour (it’ll fit in a crock pot, too). Yes, @Cowboy Kent, I remember that Shake n’ Bake commercial from when I was a kid, and thought it was so cool, I got my “from scratch only cooking” mother to buy a box and use it 😁 I’m not the griller in the family…all of cooking bone in chicken will work in the oven…not going to have that great taste from the grill, but, works fast, and works…for those who don’t have any outdoor space/grill. Also, like you, Cowboy Kent, thank you to all our veterans and our men and women currently serving our country 🇺🇸 thank you could never be enough to the job you do.

I don't know if alot of people bake with a Dutch oven but in the bush when I'm out 100 miles hunting and gathering. I learned to use a simular cooking and baking method with a dutch. I have a small metal gadget from my uncle that kinda opens up the lid and allows the meat were cooking to be seasoned by the wood smoke, I might try this method with geese if I catch. I also use dough to seal for different dishes I was taught. Great share sir i love your passion for the art of cooking.👍👍

I buy a lot of chicken thighs . I can make quit a few dishes with them. One of my favorites is buffalo chicken sliders.

This looks really good and i will definitely try this. Word of caution for home cooks. Don't cook your chicken over 400 deg. If you do it will smoke up your house like its on fire. I bake chicken all the time in my oven, so just a word of advice to avoid a kitchen nightmare. Cheers.

im going to try this next week. Just got your first cook book and did the grilled porkchops with green chile relish. Outstanding. My wife is on a low sodium diet but with a few judicious mods it came out great.
    thanks.
