Hi Jackie … the wet strength Carnival brand) tissue paper uses a resin binder. That’s what makes it robust when it gets very wet and when you handle it over all. (This is great for painted tissue paper and other techniques where you are manhandling the tissue quite a bit.The Blick is not resin based but is hardier than the basic “gift” tissue. If you’re ever in doubt if you’ve picked up a regular vs wet strength tissue, just run a water brush across the tissue and pull the 2 sides apart. Regular tissue pulls apart easily and wet strength does not. That’s a useful feature when you want soft edges before collating it in place.) Somebody mentioned deli paper, but as you know, this is impregnated with dry wax and is very different than wet strength tissue. All have their place and all 3 are relatively translucent when collaged. One trick I’ve found over the years is to use Utrecht matte (or gloss) medium and a color shaper when collaging tissue. The Utrecht is a very, very soft gel and not overly wet. Regular tissue is less fragile when using the less wet mediums like the matte or gloss fluid mediums. Golden soft gel is a close second for folks who don’t have access to Blick.
I love being home, too. Among all my favorite things: my kaleidoscope collection, my photography, my free-standing art studio, paints, puzzles, etc. It's so comforting to just be me. (and watching videos like yours)
I so agree. I enjoy my own company. I crack myself up on the daily. Never bored at home surrounded by things I love. I read, work in my garden, I have lots of art supplies to play with…..just be me.
Yes!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Being like everyone else is overrated! It’s better to be like our unique, individual selves instead of trying to make ourselves smaller/different to fit in to someone else’s box. Just one of many reasons I think artists are brave ❤️❤️❤️
Wouldn't it be fun for those who know the Enneagram to share how their type affects their art? I'm a 5W4 so I love the quiet, introspective and intuitive aspects of art-making. I certainly "play" with art as a form of self-expression.
Love watching you go through the various stages and to arrive at such a beautiful place. And, to have fun while doing it. That’s what it’s all about. 😊
Hi back Jackie! So fun to see you using some of the goodies I sent. I loved this loosening up video, it gave me some much needed inspo to bust out the Quik Stix in my middle school art classes next week. As always, you inspire and delight!
Awesome cliff hanger my friend!!! Part 2? I didn't see that coming.... Love it just the same (also, didn't bother to read the title, so there's that..) Just dove right in cause it's Jackie! Great session and wonderful to hear you share. ♥🧡🧡
Thanks Paul - you’re the best ❤️ I almost did a super long video instead of breaking it up, but then I was too tired to finish the smaller pieces, so Part 2 it is! 🤣
Hey Jackie Happy Sunday. Loving your work even before you cut it up. Those collage pieces are awesome and I love all the patterns and colors❤ Have a lovely week and thanks for always sharing 😊
Fascinating as always Jackie -- I love how you deliberately extend stuff that shows up randomly (& yay for being different, it can be painful but there is no substitute for freedom) ❤Definitely going to do the collage paper workshop (especially since you're recording it since I'm not 100% sure I can do it on the day). FYI wet strength tissue isn't the same as the Blick (I use both) -- the wet strength, as you would imagine, is made of stronger fibers and takes wet media really well without tearing, it's a bit less transparent though.
Hi Jackie - always nice to watch you make a thing... gives me a lot of ideas and also confidence. I also liked you rap in this one.... I'm looking/waiting for a re-emergence of hot pink... so far no.
This was a fun video - and there will be more - woohoo!! I'm an introvert too ... and I love my apartment - I know where everything is and just enjoy being here. Love your periwinkle! Tempera sticks are great too - happened to find a set of 30 on amazon a few years ago. Definitely fun! Thanks, Jackie! Linda H
I love the easy way you work! I was wondering, do you put gesso on your paper before you start? Thank You for sharing your process, it’s so much fun and appreciated.❣️🥰
I don’t gesso the page before I begin, but this is mixed media paper, so it may be primed with something before it makes its way to me (I haven’t looked) 🤷♀️❤️
My biggest tskeaway from watching Jackie's creative process videos is to avoid judging and critiquing the art as it is evolving. It's almost like cooking... where you ask "does it need more salt or pepper...would some tomatoes make it even tastier?" NOT " Oh, I don't like the first taste so it's failure and I need to throw this away and order takeout" LOL!!!
YES! This is such a great metaphor! Would you mind if I used this on my website? If so, can I use your first name and last initial? And if so… would you share it with me or should I use N. C.? ❤️❤️❤️
Oh my gosh! I got that very same pack of tempura paint sticks as part of a Christmas a gift, and pulled them out a couple of days ago wondering what to do with them. I’m gonna take this as a sign. 😁 What’re the odds?
I didn't know about tempera paint sticks until your video. I have been working in acrylics and wonder if I can combine them and expect them to be light fast from a fine art perspective. They seem to be only marketed toward kids and here, I know you said your goal is to play. I know there are varnishes and things with UV protection but I'm wondering overall about the archival nature. Can you or anyone speak to that? Is it good or bad form to use for selling art & longevity? Thank you. Lilac and tobacco in a color palette are my favorite so I enjoyed the colors I saw here.
Hi! I probably wouldn’t expect them to have great light fastness for archival purposes. They are washable, non-toxic paint sticks aimed at kids. If nothing turns up in a Google search, I bet you could ask the Kwik Stick company about it ❤️
Can you please tell me what brand china marker you use? Every single time I use one I break the tip! I like to add a lot pressure for darker marks..? Thank you.I love your videos and your art!😁

Thanks for this! I love using my color shapers for collage - clean up is so quick and easy! ❤️
Very useful information! Thank you so much!

Hi Jackie!
Thank you for the happy tuto!
Your 4 paintings could be mounted on wood panels for a beautiful quadriptique!
Well, they could have…. Before I cut them into a whole bunch of 5x7” pieces 🤣🤣🤣❤️
I love all of your marks.
Thanks Diane! ❤️
Oh! I also in love with that silvery striped paper!

Hi Jackie: I very much relate to your height/difference points. I’m 4’8” and believe it or not, it’s the same with me. 🥰
We’re rocking our height in style! Short, but fierce! 😍🔥
Our Deli paper is the same as wet strength tissue paper!

I must have that fluorescent red and the Celadon green! Are these two from Nova?
The red is from Nova - the green is from Golden ❤️
